Never use Mercari
Wow! A buyer claimed in a review that my item arrived late. I have tracking that proves the item arrived early. Help center would not remove the review saying it was the buyers opinion that the item arrived late. Even though I could prove it wasn't true with tracking. They said they couldn't remove it but would have the higher ups look at it. Then they changed their name to peach claiming to be a supervisor. All the previous messages were then sent by peach though. Incredibly Ridiculous!

rrcloset on Dec. 19,2022. The seller was going to ship on Dec. 28th,
on the condition that I also purchase a $75 signed CD from them. When
I refused, they canceled my original transaction, and blocked me.
Mercari was not able to help.
Desired outcome: Remove seller RRCLOSET from selling.
They steal your hard earned balance
I have had account for several years to casually shop and sell my and my kid clothing. I sold about 5 items in 2022 and made about $115. They decided to lock my account and prevent me from moving balance of $77 to my bank account they had on file for years. They asked me to verify which I did giving them SSN. I received confirmation email. They still kept my funds locked. They said I need to reverify which again I did and they were supposed to get back to me in max 48 hours which they didn’t.
They keep telling me to give them ID through email. The regulation in Inform Act states that I need to have sales of 200 items and 5k annually to be obligated to give them my ID which I never did. It is criminal what this marketplace does.
Let me transfer my balance to account that you verified to be mine (you placed deposits in it before and recently (of $1). I don’t owe you my ID by regulations and you have no basis to ask me for it. I did nothing wrong. I didn’t sell stolen fake items and didn’t scam anyone.
Desired outcome: Unlock my account so I can transfer my balance and part with you for good.
Counterfeit items
I purchased a Tom ford fragrance in cello wrap for several hundred dollars. I assumed it was a legitimate item and marked it received. This was my first time using the website for a purchase. When I unwrapped the item I discovered it was filled with water. I tried to file a complaint and get my money back, but Mercari told me I had marked the item received, which must be done within 4 days, or it is marked received by default anyway.
Since Mercury told me I had no recourse on their site, I contested my credit card charges. This triggered Mercari to freeze my account and all correspondence with buyers of my items in current transit. They also confiscated all my money in my account from sales made. Anyone in my family, or at the same address as Meis also banned from the website until I drop my contested charges. This is essentially blackmailing Mem to pay them for counterfeit items, which are illegal to sell. They are protecting counterfeiters, not banning them, and instead are banning and stealing the funds of anyone that reports these criminals.
Desired outcome: I want my account restored with the funds intact that were in my account.
Product received not as described
I received a monitor not as described by the seller. Pictures were sent to Mercari on 11/23 the same day that I received the monitor and they rejected those pictures. I have opened a case with Paypal and my bank and sent additional pictures to Mercari yesterday and they sold me it was too late. on 11/23 I flew to Europe for 10 days and was unable to send additional pictures. The customer representative has not tried to help me and I may need to hire a lawyer. Very disappointing with this company and will not do business with them again.
Fake items
Mercari used to be pro active of their sites, now I’m seeing lots of fake items, like Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Gucci bags and watches.
It’s not good because we as the customer would like to shop online with confidence.
It’s sad there’s people would rip off the others.
I would like the Mercari to focus on the list items like they used to.

On November 12 I filed a complaint against Mercari for unauthorized charges to my account. That issue was settled and now I want no future dealings with Mercari. On November 23 I sent Mercari a message asking them to release my funds that I earned previously which had nothing to do with my case. Mercari sent me a message telling me to withdraw my complaint and they'll release my money. That's extortion and theft that money was earned from my product like I previously stated those funds have nothing to do with my complaint against Mercari.
Desired outcome: I want my money.
They will steal your money
They close accounts at random and are sure to leave no way to contact anyone to discuss further. I only use account to sell stuffed animals. I recently sold one worth $50 and went and shipped the item. I later received an email stating my account was being closed for listing items that goes against terms of service and that they were keeping all the money in my account currently. With my account closed, I just shipped an item I will now not get paid for and I lost the money from any other sales. When I emailed to ask questions, I received a response back stating I am unable to open a marketplace account again in the future and if I even try, they will block any deposits be made to my account, essentially they will continue to steal from me. Thieves!
Desired outcome: Stop stealing from people
The same thing happened to me, i think it’s there business model, say the do this for 5k seller’s, like i’m set to loose $550, i filled an FTC complaint, why dot we all do the same?!
Payment
I have been selling items on Offer Up/Mercari for a few years and have gotten my profit transferred to my checking account. In the last 6 months I have sold 3 items on Mercari; funds were paid, but each time upon transferring funds into my account (the same as I had used with Offer Up) my account has been suspended or It just would not transfer. The only form of contact for Customer Help is text. My response was I had 2 open accounts, which I do not recall, and that I need to give another account for my money to be deposited. I do not have another account. I feel that this is a scam, I sold the items and what my share.
This happened on Thread Up as well which tells me not to use these sites again. I would like Mercari to send me a check for $25.4 which includes the 3 sales dated: 4/26/22, 11/08/22, and 11/11/22.
Scam.
I was scammed by a buyer. I shipped my item in said condition, same day - within the same hour. A return request was submitted saying that I sent a different item. Which was untrue. Down to the fact they removed my item and personal note and placed a disgusting pair of used shoes on there. I replied immediately with proof of the faulty claim. I was told to wait it out for my “return” and would be able to file a dispute. I was not. Their policy lies. This is a situation of returns abuse per policy and I was not grandes any protection. I got screwed over for telling the truth. And I am not the first one. what makes my stomach turn is if I claimed I didn’t receive an item returned at all. I would have been compensated. This is a screwed company system and I will be following up further. They refused to escalate my claim. I was robbed of my item and funds.
Desired outcome: I want to be compensated for my item that was stolen through internet fraud.
Not answering messages
I sold on Mercari 24 years ago. Now that I have retired, I want to again but erased my userame and W. This is my 6th attempt to get my messages answered. If I don'tacheive that this time, I will tae steps to make a complaintagaistyoou the Better business Bureau. I am not threatening, just a fact! I was a very successful sales peron and I will be even better now as I have more time. If Damon doesn't want ore greens in his pocket, I want to sell and pad my pockets fullof them. Thanks for nothing.

Damaged returned item
Sold an item the buyer received my item back said it was damaged the pictures that the buyer posted showed that it was removed from the box placed back in the box then she took a picture of it being broke the item was in perfect condition I received the item back took the pictures of my broken item showed them what my item look like from my listing pic and they will not take care of the situation they're saying there's nothing wrong with the item in the pictures show plain as day that it is not the same I am missing part of my item the buyer damaged my product could have been by accident and returned it back to me saying it was damaged

Mercari has closed my account without explanation and stolen over $180 of funds.

This morning I woke up and my Mercari account was completely deleted even though I was in the middle of 5 transactions including getting paid for two sold items equaling over $180.
Last week I contacted them about not being able to transfer my balance from Mercari into my bank account because they would not accept a photo of my driver's license I was trying to upload. After 15 minutes of being on the phone with them, no resolution was made. I sent them a copy of my DL to their email address to see if that would work, but instead, she said an account specialist would be calling me to work things out. I never received a call. Instead, my account was deleted in the middle of the night on a Friday. Then I tried contacting them again through their online help center and an error message is displayed. So basically, they have stolen my money. This is ridiculous. They will be hearing from my fiance who is an attorney.
Desired outcome: Complete the transactions, and restore my account. I have done NOTHING wrong!
Cancelled Sales
Dates of occurrence: 4/27/2022 and 9/27/2022. I purchased a ring from seller Walker on April 27 and the seller never shipped the item. The seller cancelled the sale a week later. Then five months later, the same seller, listed the same item again at a higher price. I sent the seller a question about the item, which she responded. So, I purchased the ring once again. Then four days later, the seller Walker cancelled the purchase. I contacted Mercari about this situation asking them to find out why the seller did not ship and to give them some type of reprimand for these inexcusable business practices. A few days later, I get an email from Mercari that the case is closed. Looks like absolutely nothing was done. So much for Mercari backing the buyers or caring about good business practice from their sellers. I think Mercari is a poorly run business itself. You can’t even speak to a live person. I definitely will think twice before I buy anything from their website.
Desired outcome: Mercari request the seller Walker follow thru with the ring sale and ship the item. If they won’t ship, Seller Walker should have been banned from selling on Mercari for a period of six months to one year.

I bought a device named Fixd from a company called Mercari. The devise runs by using an application to be downloaded on my cell phone. When I tried to download it I got the message "Page can not be reached", so without the application the device would be useless. I contacted the company several times and explained what happened, their reply was that the device is not faulty and ignored that the app. is the faulty one and refused to refund me the total amount of $28.32

This is my transaction below. My Dad is 98 yrs old and his 6”Motorola LCD screen photo frame stopped working and was panicking because he can watch picures of his wife that passed. I was checking on line and found this item for sale. I told me Dad wait a few days I found one and it will be on the way. He was so thankful and happy about the news. Later I received a message that they don't have it. This is the first time purchasing on your site. Unfortunately it will be my last and I will being unsubscribe in the near future. The look on my father's face was very overwhelming for me. If the product does not exist or sold they should of removed it. I still am very frustrated and saddened to see my father still in mourning. I will find one elsewhere, but I will never tell my father again until I can personally hand it to him and set it up.

Always Sides with sellers
Seller listed a "brand new" camera. When I received it , it was clearly not new and had a missing piece. When I tried it, it was broken. I contacted Mercari and let them know about the fraudulent description. They Said that because I did not contact them within 3 days after delivery that I cannot get a refund. They basically sided with the seller & did not care about the client. Also, they automatically gave this seller a 5 star rating. Which I did not give.

Game Swapping
I am a buyer and a seller.
My first complaint is from a few months ago in May 2022. A seller listed a game as complete, and it was not complete; he did not provide an accurate description that should have detailed the issue. Mercari sided with the seller and would not grant me a refund.
My lasted is August 2022. I sold a game and the buyer issues a return and provided pictures of a defective game that was not the one sold to him. It was the same game, but not my copy. I explained my case to Mercari and they sided with the buyer. They did not want to hear that the buyer was scamming me.
In the last 5 years, I sold and bought on both eBay and Mercari. Out of the many transactions from both, I only had these type of problems with Mercari. It is very frustrating. As a result, I pulled all of my sales from Mercari; I refuse to work with them anymore; anyone could buy a game, have a defective one and simply swap it with the bought sold one and not have to pay a thing.
This is very disappointing. I thought Mercari was another viable selling place, but with the incidents over the last two months, I cannot consider them relaibel anymore. For anyone thinking about selling on Mercari, proceed with caution.
Desired outcome: I would have liked them to be fair. They did not even want to hear my side. There is no reason for a seller to sell with them. Be wary.
Customer service
They allow people to hold your money hostage when they refuse to ship the item paid for or they just simply cancel your purchase. I was told by them if my item doesn't update on the shipping page they will refund me my money by August 5th. Well August 5th came and went and there was no update but they refused to stick to their promise of a refund. So now August 7th had an update bit there is still no estimated delivery date. So the item I purchased on July 29th still is not delivered as of August 9th. Its still sitting in the original city and state of the seller.
Mercari are money hunger scumbags. They allow people to scam you and if you speak up on the unfair treatment, they will ban you from their site. I hope they get shut down.

SHOP WITH CAUTION!
Mercari DOES NOT care about their members - Buyers or Sellers. While most transactions may run smoothly use caution when buying or selling anything fragile through Mercari. My purchase of a 32 piece lot would have been covered by the UPS insurance policy except Mercari REFUSED to file a claim. Eight of the 32 items in this order were broken in transit. UPS agreed a claim should be filed except since Mercari was listed as the seller, neither myself or the true seller could file a claim, Mercarihad to file. I tried multiple times to explain this via email to Mercari(unable to speak with anyone on the phone). They refused, stating I could have returned it entire order for a full refund but instead opted to keep the 24 unbroken items. This is the policy-NO EXCEPTIONS! As the items were broken by UPS, I did not feel it was fair to penalize the true seller by requesting a refund or leaving a bad review. I also collect these items and wanted the 24 that survived.
Desired outcome: I want Mercari to file a claim with UPS. I can't and the seller can't.
