Mercari - Caution: Mercari, inc. E-commerce
Be very careful with the Mercari platform itself when buying or selling. The company’s A.I. Bot scans ads and transactions for activity that could be ‘construed’ as a violation thus prohibited conduct. The system will then simply shut-down your account and attempt to freeze your funds. - Escalating the situation to a human/customer service has no...

I purchased a pair of Foot Joy golf shoes from a Mercari seller, P. Clayton of Michigan. Finding the item, a great price, completing the purchase, and receiving the item were fine. The item was listed as being new. When the package arrived I discovered the item indeed appeared new, and not in original box (there was no indication as such on the item web page). More disappointing was the seller did not care enough about the item's integrity in transit--there was no packing whatsoever in the box--the shoes just flopped around in a box for 2 gallon bottles of detergent. Really, it's too expensive to use packing material for a loose item in a box that is way too large for the item? If I see this seller on Mercari again I will not transact with him.
Recommendation: Don't waste your money with this Mercari seller
My Frustrating Experience with Mercari: Unfair Treatment and Nitpicking of Sellers
Mercari used to be my go-to selling app, but my opinion of it changed drastically about a year ago. Despite this, I continued to use the app until recently when I had a frustrating experience that led me to pull all of my listings. I've been a member since 2017 and have over 300 five-star reviews, along with every badge Mercari offers, including trustworthy, quick shipper, and reliable. I have a verified account and have never had any problems with any of my sales.
On Monday, November 2nd, I had about 20 listings published on Mercari. I take great care to provide clear and detailed photos for all of my listings, along with thorough descriptions that use all of the space provided by Mercari. However, last weekend I received an email stating that one of my listings had been deactivated due to "prohibited conduct." I was confused because I follow all of Mercari's rules and regulations. The listing in question was for a 220+ beauty/makeup sample bundle, which I described in detail in the 915 characters allowed by Mercari. I also posted 12 clear photos of all the items included in the bundle.
Since Mercari didn't provide any specific information about what was wrong with my listing, I reactivated it and opened a ticket with Mercari asking for more information. It took them a full day to respond, during which time they deactivated my listing again. When they finally responded, they told me that the issue was that I hadn't specified what the buyer would receive. However, the first paragraph of my listing clearly stated that the buyer would receive all products pictured, and I attached 12 clear photos of everything that would be sent.
This experience was frustrating and insulting, especially since Mercari allows many users to break their rules without consequence. For example, some users use stock photos (against the rules) and price jacking (also against the rules), and Mercari ignores reports of clearly counterfeit items. I've been reporting a counterfeit designer purse for a year, but it's still available for purchase on the app.
It's clear that Mercari picks and chooses who to penalize, and I'm tired of being nitpicked for following the rules while others get away with breaking them. I won't be selling on Mercari anymore, especially since they recently raised their fees. The app is not safe or fair, and they don't treat all users equally. I urge anyone considering using Mercari to read all negative reviews before making a decision.
In fact, I'm so fed up with Mercari that I'm filing a report with the Better Business Bureau and providing evidence to support my claims. I have over 100 pictures that prove how awful Mercari is, and I hope that my report will help others avoid the same frustrating experience I had.

Review: My Experience with Mercari's Customer Support and a Problematic Seller
Mercari is an online marketplace that allows people to buy and sell items. I recently had a bad experience with a seller on Mercari. I purchased an item on January 31st and was hoping to receive it within 3-4 business days. However, the item did not arrive until February 17th, which was almost two weeks later. I contacted the seller to cancel the order and get a refund, but they were unresponsive.
I then contacted Mercari's customer support and they asked me to provide the messages between myself and the seller. After reviewing the messages, Mercari contacted the seller and asked them to provide a valid tracking number. The seller eventually provided a tracking number, but it was clear that they had not shipped the item until after Mercari got involved.
When I received the item, I was no longer interested in it and wanted to return it for a full refund. Mercari's customer support was helpful in assisting me with the return process. However, I was disappointed that it took so long to receive the item and that the seller was unresponsive until Mercari got involved.
Overall, my experience with Mercari was not great due to the seller's poor communication and delayed shipping. However, Mercari's customer support was helpful in resolving the issue and assisting with the return process. I would recommend using Mercari, but be cautious when dealing with individual sellers and make sure to contact customer support if you encounter any issues.
Avoid Mercari: A Nightmare Waiting to Happen for Buyers and Sellers
Mercari is a platform that allows sellers to take advantage of buyers, and they don't seem to care about it. The app is full of bugs, and there is no protection or support from the site itself. It's also easy for sellers to manipulate their ratings, making themselves appear trustworthy when they're not. This site is a disaster waiting to happen.
I recently used Mercari to buy a doll for my sister, who has cancer. She collects dolls and saw one she wanted on Mercari. Since she's on a fixed income, I told her to try to keep the price within a certain limit. She tried to make an offer, but the app didn't work. (I looked it up online and discovered that this is a common issue.) So my sister messaged her offer to the seller, only $3 less than the asking price because she was following my orders. The seller didn't bother replying.
I told my sister to go ahead and buy it, but when she tried, she discovered that the seller had blocked her! The item had been listed for almost a year, so you'd think the seller would be happy to sell it, but apparently, her false pride was worth more to her than a sale because she'd rather block a potential customer than actually get some money by selling something.
I opened an account and bought the doll myself. It's been a week, and the seller still hasn't shipped it. They're supposed to ship within three days, but Mercari doesn't do anything to enforce it. As far as I can tell, sellers can be as unprofessional as they like, with no repercussions from Mercari to keep them honest.
I looked at this seller's reviews, and her profile showed five perfect stars. But then I actually started reading the reviews and found that she'd canceled a high percentage of her orders over the 2.5 years she'd been on the site. In recent months, the canceled sales stopped, but then she'd had many buyers cancel on her. It turns out that if a sale is canceled, the buyer can't leave a review. That explains her perfect rating: if the seller knows she's getting a bad review, she just cancels and keeps her 'perfect' rating.
If a seller cancels too many sales, Mercari bans them. But if the buyer cancels, it's a black mark on them. So it's pretty clear that this seller has canceled so many sales that she's in danger of being booted. Now she's just not shipping until the buyer gives up and cancels. That way, her rating stays perfect while the buyer takes the heat!
Since this is my first purchase, I suspect she must've figured I'm the same person who 'insulted' her (c'mon, $3 less than asking price isn't exactly lowball!) so she doesn't want to send it, just to be nasty. I also discovered that if I send her a message about this and she doesn't reply, then Mercari will automatically cancel. I don't want to see her get away with this, so I'm refusing to cancel. I reported her to Mercari and got an automated message from them, that they'd contact me within "11 hours." It's been much longer than that, but they haven't replied.
I did get an automated message that they'd sent a "reminder" to the seller to ship the item after seven days without her shipping, but that has had no effect whatsoever. So here I sit in limbo, frustrated at the way I'm being treated and completely abandoned by Mercari.
My sister has enough pain and suffering. She's homebound, so she doesn't have much joy in life and just wants to buy a doll. She was polite when she messaged the seller and doesn't deserve to be treated this way. So I'm refusing to cancel because I want to make sure this seller doesn't get away with treating my sister this way or anyone else, either. Maybe she's just a rotten seller and too lazy to bother sending it, but since she blocked my sister for making an offer, I'm pretty sure she's just one of those narcissistic power trippers who can only make herself feel important by screwing with other people. Regardless of whether this seller has personality disorders or is just plain lazy, Mercari has done nothing to protect us or other buyers from this vulture. She doesn't even lose a star off her pristine rating, despite the fact that she's failed to follow through with almost one fifth of her transactions!
That's just wrong.
Please, don't put yourself through the hassle of bothering with this site. It needs to go, and the only way that will happen is if people steer clear. There are lots of other sites out there that are so much better! Go to them, and let Mercari die the death it so richly deserves. Don't put yourself or anyone you love through this. My sister had two prior sales that went through, but this has been a nightmare. Stress is really bad for her, and being treated like trash by this seller has caused her physical pain. She wanted the doll because it looked like my grandchild, so this has been a great disappointment to her. Since I'm the one dealing with the finances, it's been a horror for me as well.
Sellers don't get paid until the buyer writes a review, so this woman isn't getting anything out of this but the fleeting satisfaction of messing with someone. Meanwhile, Mercari does nothing, not even taking a star off this nasty seller's rating. Trust me, this is not the kind of site you want to support by using. Unless you have enough time to browse through pages of past reviews, you have no way of knowing if the seller is really worth their stars. Avoid it at all costs and take your money somewhere else so Mercari can slip into the sewers with the rest of the cockroaches.
Mercari: A Nightmare of Unfair Rules and Thievery
Mercari is a platform that I absolutely loathe. I mean, I really, really hate it. My experience with the platform started a few years ago when I created an account on a whim. At the time, the platform wasn't as big as it is now, and I wasn't impressed with the items available. I didn't think the kind of items I wanted to sell were right for the buyers there at the time, so I logged out, deleted the app, and forgot about it.
Fast forward a year or so later, and I hear from a few friends that they've been buying some stuff there, and they're pretty happy with it. So, I decided to give it another try. However, I completely forgot what information I had used for my previous account. I have a ridiculous amount of email/password combinations, and since I didn't like Mercari when I first downloaded it, I didn't make a mental note to remember the info. So, I decided to create a new account.
I used a new email, but it said "Looks like you've already created an account on this device." I thought this was weird, but I created the new account from my grandmother's phone instead the next time I saw her. It also asked for my phone number, and of course, "Looks like this phone number is already being used!" when I entered mine. So, I used her phone number, too. I entered the texted verification code, and voila! New account.
I started buying a little here and there and selling a lot. I made a really nice profit for five or six months with some jewelry stock I was selling on Ebay before. Then, one day out of the blue, it said "Your account has been suspended indefinitely." I could still get into the account, but I couldn't do anything. I had something like $180 sitting in there at the time. First, I tried to transfer the money to my bank account, and it wouldn't let me. So, I contacted them, pretty angrily, to ask what the deal was.
They said something along the lines of "We've determined you are operating multiple accounts and they have both been suspended indefinitely. You cannot use bank information that has been entered on another account. You will no longer be allowed to buy, sell or like items. Best, Mercari." I was livid at that point. On my first account, I entered all of the info you need to sign up, a profile pic, bank info, and a little bio as soon as I was in. I NEVER bought or sold a THING. Why does it even matter if a user has multiple accounts? On the account I actually sold on, I had 300+ great reviews. Why mess with a good seller?
Do you know how many other selling platforms allow you to have multiple accounts? Etsy, for example. I've seen people with three different Etsy shops that they advertise openly. So, basically, they're telling me that for breaking their rules, I don't have access to MY money that I EARNED. It doesn't matter if their rules are absurd, unfair, and not explicitly stated. If you break them, they can do whatever they want.
I obviously suspected that having multiple accounts was prohibited with all of the hoops they made me jump through when I signed up for my second, but I didn't think it really mattered in my case because I didn't USE my old account. And, I thought it more applied to sellers who scammed/sold counterfeit items and jumped accounts. Nope. Apparently not. Not to mention, plenty of couples share bank accounts, but apparently multiple accounts can't share the same one?
I firmly believe they create these unfair rules, which they know will be broken BECAUSE they're ridiculous and not advertised clearly, just so they have an excuse to steal money from users. They've even suspended accounts for someone saying the word "poshmark" or "depop" or "ebay." How absolutely petty can you be? It's just to take their hard-earned cash (well, maybe not *thathard-earned, but their money, nonetheless!)
I contacted them a few more times, but it's like talking to a brick wall. You never get a real response. It's always copy and paste nonsense. Once, when I told them they were blatantly stealing from me, they said "You still have access to your balance." What? I can't do a transfer, I can't buy anything, but you want to tell me I still have access to my balance? You mean when I log in, I get to look at numbers on a screen that I can't have? Lucky me.
They also told me once that they knew I was "Operating multiple accounts" because of the same bank info and address. Are multiple people in the same household not allowed to use the app? Then, as I've found on sites like these, Mercari has apparently stolen hundreds of thousands of dollars from thousands of users, if not more.
The platform is also full of the most rude, disrespectful, unintelligent users I've ever come across on the many selling apps and sites I use. With thousands of counterfeit sellers, sellers that'll ship you an empty box, buyers that'll buy something, request a return, and send back an empty box. Buyers that'll lowball you RIDICULOUSLY. Buyers that will say "wheres my item?","you shipping my item or wut?" a single day after they purchased it.
Still, even the awful users are nothing compared to the nightmare the company is itself. Thievery, catch 22s, and no real people to help you. You can tell how awful they are by how desperately they try to hide. No address, no phone number, no real support email (copy and paste bots again) anywhere on the internet.
I suggest that everyone file a complaint with the BBB, and if you have the means, FILE A BBBBIIIIIGGGG SUIT AGAINST THEM. I'd sure like to.
Buyer Beware: Mercari's Unethical Practices Cost Me My New Item
Mercari is an online marketplace where you can buy and sell items. However, my experience with this app has been a nightmare. If you plan on selling anything on this app, be careful because buyers can damage the item upon receiving the package and then send photos to Mercari to approve a return. It doesn't matter how many photos you took in the listing showing substantial evidence that the item was in pristine, brand new with tags condition, Mercari's logic is to accept anything and everything that is damaged by the buyer. They will always take the buyer's word over yours!
I had a terrible experience with a buyer named Tory Lynn, who destroyed my new with tag item. On July 5th, Tory Lynn purchased NWT Lululemon train times crop from me. I shipped the item the following day and it was successfully delivered on July 9th. However, on July 10th, Tory Lynn submitted a return request. I contacted her to ask why she submitted a return request when she reposted the exact item on her page. She immediately deleted the listing and refused to answer my question. On July 11th, Mercari approved the return request.
I tried to contact Mercari to inquire about the return request, but they do not have a way to contact them directly except to contact the buyer within 24 hours. I searched through every frequently asked question, and still could not find the contact box for me to send them a direct message. My last resort was to contact them via the ID verification section. I asked Mercari why the return was approved, and I even informed them that the buyer relisted the same item, noting there were no issues with the NWT lululemon crops.
Customer representative responded on July 12th and informed me that the item has a hole and was marked as not described. I responded immediately to let them know that numerous photos were presented in my original listing (before they deactivated it) that the item was in pristine condition. I addressed my suspicions to Tim that the buyer inflicted the damage herself. In addition, I included evidence of the buyer who reposted the listing, showing no damage to the crops. I did not receive any further response for two days. On July 14th, Sam, a different customer representative responded to my message and informed me that if I receive the item back and there's an issue with its condition, I have 24 hours to contact them and request a review.
The item was delivered back to me on July 14th, and the mesh on the back of the left leg of the crops was ruined. It was clearly evident that the buyer inflicted damage and destroyed my personal property with a sharp object of some sort in order to get the approved return. I addressed before and after pictures of the crops, noting that the mesh part on both sides in my listing did not show any imperfections or flaws to the mesh. I added photos side by side, and even described to customer service (Sam) that I meticulously double package all of my items to prevent any damages.
I don't understand why Mercari did not bother to look at my listing photos and see that there were no issues with my crops, and the buyer had simply went against the law and destroyed my personal belonging to beat the return system. I contacted Mercari with numerous messages and substantial evidence to support my case, however, I have not received any response from customer service. What I'm left with is a destroyed, damaged new with tag item, caused by the buyer.
Mercari accepted the return on my behalf without consulting me and released the funds back to the buyer before I could inspect the item's condition upon return. As soon as the buyer's tracking shows that the item is being shipped back to you, your listing is deactivated (evidence is all gone) and the funds are immediately released back to them. You're better off selling on Bonanza, Poshmark or Ebay. They follow strict guidelines and operate efficiently unlike Mercari.
Customer service (Tim) responded today and mentioned that the case is close. Exact response was "I have determined that the order was returned to you in the same condition your buyer received it in. Since I cannot verify your claim, I am required to deny your request and proceed with your buyer's refund." Tim agreed that it's 100% acceptable for buyer to destroy my product, leaving me with nothing but a damaged crop. Thank you Mercari for your unethical ways. You guys are con-artists!
If you are being scammed by Mercari, please report to Better Business Bureau, the Consumer's Affairs and any source to discredit Mercari, please do it! They do not protect their sellers, that is false advertisement! Don't be fooled by Mercari's Better Business Bureau A- report. They respond with the same auto-generated response stating they do not care about you or your product!
Unfair Policies and Poor Customer Service: My Experience with Mercari
I recently had an experience with Mercari that left me feeling frustrated and disappointed. I sold an item for $180 and described it accurately, providing pictures to support my claims. However, the buyer claimed that the item was not as described and Mercari approved the return without contacting me for my side of the story. When I asked to see the buyer's evidence, I was told to contact them directly. This seemed unfair to me, as Mercari had already approved the return based solely on the buyer's word and pictures.
To make matters worse, the buyer has not yet returned the item and Mercari has not released the funds to me. They claim that the buyer has three business days to send the item back once the return has been approved, but it has now been several days and I have not received any updates. In the meantime, Mercari has suspended my account and asked for proof of identity. I complied with their request, but my account is still pending verification several days later.
When I contacted Mercari to ask why my account was still under review, they claimed that there had been a recent credit/debit card bank inquiry associated with my registered address. However, when I contacted my bank, they had no record of any such inquiry. Mercari's response was to close my account without any further explanation or assistance.
I find this kind of customer service to be unacceptable and unprofessional. I have used other online marketplaces like eBay and Poshmark without any issues, and I would recommend using those sites instead. Mercari's policies are not enforced fairly and their customer service is lacking. I would caution anyone against buying or selling on this site.
Buyer Beware: My Disappointing Experience with Mercari
I stumbled upon Mercari on my Instagram feed and decided to give it a try. It was a new platform, and I was curious to see what it had to offer. A few weeks before Christmas, during the craze for LOL Surprise dolls, I purchased a 24k DJ for my granddaughter. The transaction was smooth, and I received the item brand new and unopened, just as described. I was impressed and decided to buy from Mercari again.
About a week before Christmas, I decided to buy a pair of Apple AirPods for my daughter. The site was full of them, and they were selling like hotcakes. I found a seller, checked out the pictures on their ad, and read a few reviews. They seemed okay, so I decided to purchase the AirPods. They were about $50 cheaper than buying them from Apple, and I'm always looking for a bargain.
The item arrived the day before Christmas, and I mailed them to my daughter two days after Christmas since she couldn't fly in due to work. She received the package about three days later and was excited to open it. However, when she went to the Apple store to register them and get insurance, the tech noticed that the font on the box was different from the genuine Apple AirPods. Upon further inspection, they discovered that the AirPods were fake replicas and not genuine Apple products at all. The sound quality was terrible, and my daughter was disappointed.
I contacted Mercari right away via email and sent them pictures of the product and packaging. I also called them to request a refund. However, they told me that I couldn't get a refund because it was beyond the three days after receipt. Mercari blocks you from contacting the seller once you rate them, and you have to rate them within three days of receiving the product for the seller to be paid. I rated the seller for quick shipping and that the item arrived as described in the ad. I assumed the seller was an Apple dealer since they had sold about 50 AirPods in a short time span.
Mercari's response was appalling, and there was no buyer protection. They push you to rate the seller so they can be paid, but they don't emphasize that you must open and inspect the product thoroughly within three days. If you receive a product on a Friday and the place you need to take the item to verify its authenticity isn't open until Monday or Tuesday due to a holiday, you've automatically passed the three days, and you're stuck. I've bought from eBay and Amazon many times over the years and have never experienced this problem. If there was an issue, there was buyer protection, or you could still get in touch with the seller to arrange a return of the product.
I can't recommend Mercari because I'd hate for this to happen to someone else. This company needs to make better regulations and policies to handle things like this, provide better customer service, and some buyer protection just as they guarantee sellers' payments. They may or may not reach out to the awful seller who has not only done this to me but I'm sure countless others. If they shut them down, that person will just open a new ad tomorrow under a different name and continue to defraud buyers. It's really sad.
My first experience with Mercari was good, but the second was a nightmare. I won't do business on the site again because of this. I've spent thousands on Amazon, eBay, and OfferUp, but Mercari won't get another dime from me.
Buyer Beware: My Experience with Mercari and a Non-Responsive Seller
I've been using Mercari since 2018 and have had a great experience with the platform. I've purchased a lot of items and have always been satisfied with the honest and reputable sellers I've dealt with. However, my experience changed on February 13th, 2020, and I want to warn other buyers about what could happen to them.
I purchased three new dolls from a seller on February 13th, and the order was marked as "in transit" on February 14th. However, when I checked with FedEx on February 15th and 16th, they told me that the seller had created a label but that they did not have my package. I messaged the seller several times but received no response. Finally, I messaged them through another one of their for-sale items and received a response, but they told me that the dolls were shipped on February 17th, not February 14th. I checked with FedEx again on February 18th, and they still only had the label, not the package. I tried to cancel the order, but because it was marked as "in transit," I couldn't.
On February 18th, I emailed Mercari's Help Center to cancel the order due to the non-responsive seller. However, I received a response on February 19th saying that they were experiencing longer than usual response times and that they would get back to me as soon as possible. Meanwhile, my financial institution notified me that Mercari had charged my credit card on February 16th, even though I still didn't have the dolls or good shipping information. I received a notification that the dolls were delivered, but I still didn't have them.
To protect myself and my $100+, I filed a dispute with my bank. However, Mercari suspended my account, claiming that I violated their terms and conditions by filing a dispute. They said that they couldn't discuss or address any of my issues with the seller until I withdrew my dispute. I cancelled the dispute on February 21st, but Mercari still wanted paper proof that I withdrew it. I finally received my dolls on February 22nd, nine days after I purchased them.
On February 23rd, Mercari told me that my account would remain suspended until all disputes filed against it were cancelled and verification was completed. They gave me 48 hours to produce a copy of the withdrawal and send it to them. On February 27th, I sent them a copy of the dispute cancellation, but on February 28th, they asked me to verify my information by sending them a copy of my driver's license. I refused and told them to close my account if that's what they wanted to do.
Throughout this entire ordeal, Mercari never addressed the issues I had with the seller. I felt like I was being treated like a criminal instead of a victim of a non-responsive seller. I want other buyers to be aware that this could happen to them and to be cautious when using Mercari.
Mercari Review: A Swap Meet for Scammers and Cheap Skate People
I've been selling on eBay for years and recently added Poshmark to my resources about six months ago. I heard about Mercari from Posh buyers who asked me if I sold on this site because their fees and shipping are cheaper. Unlike Posh, which has one shipping rate regardless of the price or weight, Mercari has more options. So, a 4 oz. hat costs the same to ship as a coat that weighs 4 lbs on Poshmark. It's ridiculous. With eBay, I can weigh it down to the penny and save my buyers a lot of money. Poshmark doesn't seem invested in making sure they stay out of the responsibility of shipping the item. Yes, it's convenient to print a label and slap it on an item, but it also means that items that should be shipped cheaper don't because of their one flat rate. That's why I checked out Mercari.
One day, I decided to take a look at the site, and it seemed pretty okay. I figured it was another source to sell my items, so why not? I spent a day-and-a-half listing over 200 items, and then one day after that, I saw an awesome item I wanted to purchase. I got Dirt Cheap Ralph Lauren on Poshmark that was in excellent to perfect condition, so I didn't think it was impossible for this really cute Ralph Lauren sweatshirt to only be $16. I purchased the item and went out of town about two days after making the purchase. I returned home about 10 days later and contacted the seller, telling them that I wasn't ignoring their request for a rating, but I simply hadn't been home to pick up the item. The seller said no problem.
When I finally got home, I went to pick up my package. When I got the package, it was a large bubble wrap package. The package itself was a little beat up, and there was one small nick in the package. But when I opened the package, there were five holes on the front of the shirt and four holes on the back! I immediately contacted the seller and said, "Your item is damaged. Why would you sell me an item that has obvious holes in the front and the back?"
Granted, her listing had only had one photo, and it appeared to be in good light, but because it was a camo print, you could easily not see it because that's the point of camo, right? Lol! She said when she shipped the item, it was not damaged. Then we started going back and forth, and I contacted support and explained. They told me to send them photos of the packaging and the item.
I sent them all the info with great close-ups of the holes, and they almost immediately responded that same day that the item was "as the seller described" and that the case would be closed! WHAT! I responded to customer service with "but you SEE these holes! How can anyone see this many holes in a sweatshirt and say the item was as described?" I was speechless that Mercari was run by a bunch of idiots! I know that the item had arrived more than three days ago, but they weren't using that as the excuse to not accept the return. They were actually saying the item was "as described," which was inconceivable to me!
They said they would give me a one-time courtesy credit for the item, but I was so pissed I really didn't want it! But they immediately told me that the case was closed, and there's nothing I can do about it. The seller continued to insist I was a scammer (which I get because it does happen), but I was the one calling her a scammer because I just don't see how a shirt could have that many holes in it and not have left her possession that way! It wasn't like the package arrived with holes and rips and tears in it, so how could it not be her fault? I looked at her profile *after the fact*, which I should have done before, but there were no red flags even if I had looked at it prior, so I just got scammed!
The funny thing is you can't review their sellers after three days when they release the funds if you don't review. I guarantee you that there are plenty of terrible sellers who dodged a bullet with getting a bad review because the buyer might have waited more than three days to open their package or receive the package, etc. She claimed she has an excellent rating as a seller and that I was the scammer trying to get a free sweatshirt, which is hilarious considering I work for the company, and I could get Ralph Lauren anytime I want it. But it was a slightly older item that I had missed the opportunity to buy when it was in the stores, and I was super excited to be able to get it, even if it was second hand because it appeared to be in great condition!
But I got scammed, and I'm so pissed about it! So here I am with a sweatshirt with a ton of holes in the front and the back, and I'm trying to figure out if there is a way I can salvage the shirt so that the holes are not obvious. If it were one hole, it would not be a problem, but five holes in the front and four holes in the back! That's a tall order to repair, and I'm not a seamstress!
The funny thing is a few days later, I was really looking at the sweatshirt and trying to figure out what made the holes because they are perfectly spaced apart on the front as well as being perfectly spaced on the back. It occurred to me that it looked like a cat or dog had gotten their claws into the sweatshirt and caused these symmetrical holes! There was no other explanation other than after she took the photo, at some point, the shirt got damaged. If the sweatshirt was ever without holes when she listed it, I'll never know. I just know I'm out $20, and I'm really disgusted with this site!
After spending a day-and-a-half uploading 200 items, I made all my listings inactive.
And what other people have been saying about this site is true! It's a swap meet for cheap skate people and scammers! I think the site is frequented by a lot of young teenagers who have no standards or intentions of running their listings with integrity. They sell cheap stuff as well as damaged stuff, and they know how to scam the system. Until this site stops them from doing so, I will not be selling on here. I can't afford to sell some of my high-end Ralph Lauren, Lucky Brand, and Free People items on their site only to have one of these scammers tell me that it arrived damaged or they never got it, etc.
I noticed a lot of the items sold on here don't meet the standards of Posh or eBay anyway. It's overrun by snot-nosed little teenyboppers, tweens, and young adults looking to make a quick buck off of the stuff they no longer want or can't use or damaged or knockoffs. I've also noticed some of those overseas China-based businesses selling their tacky fake jewelry and clothes for ridiculous prices!
Mercari is not worth the stress of weeding out the scammers. I'll stick to eBay and Posh!
Also, when I went to give her a poor review, they had already given her one, and it blocks me from reviewing her! What a scam! A support team is allowed to substitute their review for the actual buyer! What [censored]!
Mercari Review: Great for Buyers, But Stay Away as a Seller - Issues with Customer Service, Feedback, and Sales Interference
Mercari is a great platform for buyers, but as a seller, I have to warn others to stay away. There are several issues that I have observed that make it difficult to sell on this platform. Firstly, there is no way to reach customer service for any issues that are not listed on their help page. Even when you try to send them a message, you may get an error pop-up that prevents you from doing so. This can be frustrating, especially when you have an urgent issue that needs to be resolved.
Secondly, there is no way for a seller to ask for removal of unjust feedback or leave a response for unjust feedback. This is unlike eBay, which allows sellers to do so. This can be detrimental to a seller's reputation and can discourage potential buyers from purchasing from them.
Thirdly, Mercari can put your account into LaLa Land without your knowledge. This can be frustrating, especially when you are trying to log in from different browsers. Their poor programming can flood your email with "New Log-In to your acct" messages, which can be annoying.
Fourthly, Mercari interferes with your sales at every step of the way. They compare your item during the listing with prices other "similar" items sold for, but they have never seen YOUR item. This can be frustrating, especially when you have high-quality and unique items that are mostly nowhere else found online. They also reduce your price without your permission, to rock bottom, well-below your own price originally selected.
Fifthly, Mercari does not offer a good organization of listings at all. If you sell in multiple categories, buyers will not be able to search all of your listings, unless they click on all of your pages of listings, one by one. This can be time-consuming and can discourage potential buyers from purchasing from you.
Lastly, the return system is flawed. If a buyer requests a return, Mercari handles it on your behalf, and you will only know about it once Mercari has already decided to accept the return. Buyers can claim a wild array of reasons that are untrue, and you have no other choice but to agree to the return, despite evidence provided that the buyer originally contacted you with a typical buyer's remorse request to request a credit for the item he wants to send back.
In conclusion, Mercari receives a rating of 1 out of 5 as a seller and 3 out of 5 as a buyer, making it an average of 2 out of 5 stars. As a seller, I will think hard about continuing to list my items there, unless Mercari offers a store-like setup and significant improvements to its Contact Us feature. As a buyer, I may use them, but only after first contacting a seller to find out whether the seller is still active.

Horrible experience / poor customer service and problem solving
Horrible experience. I was sold a ($200) soiled, too big un alterable dress (missing the original packaging they said it would come in) and was told I could not return it. Their response was to resale it to someone else. Now I have to pay additional money to have it cleaned and attempt to get my money back. Foul business for even allowing people to sell dirty/unclean items (they have it in writing that they do not accept returns for having odors) and get away with it. Then disregard the purchaser's issues and reward the seller 5 stars on your behalf. Who does that? I DESERVE my money back and would gladly send the dress back. Clearly that's not going to happen. Nor will they send me the original packaging it said it would come in. That would be the easiest part for them, but they couldn't even do that. They told me they were not giving me the answer I wanted and closed my case. NEVER AGAIN!
Claimed loss: $200
Desired outcome: $200 and return dress

Customer service
I bought a skirt from Mercari and it was not at all as described
It states no refunds so I rated it and then complained to customer service
Customer service was useless so not only did I receive something that is not wearable I am out of the money I could have spent elsewhere
Their website is purposely confusing regarding refunds. It says NO REFUNDS and customer service then states that rating the merchandise is what forfeited my payment being returned
I Deleted my account.
Take my advice and don’t buy from this company
Desired outcome: Customer service no help. No refund

Unfair practices
On January 20th I purchased an "Authentic Coach Wallet, New with Tags" from Seller Gripsty for $35.00. I confirmed with her several times that the item was new/ I received the item on the 25th of January. Upon opening the package, I contacted Mercari and the Seller immediately as (1) the wallet was not an authentic coach (2) it was not new - it was actually...

Mercari not honoring shipping policy - item id - m81009199692
I purchased an Apple Watch on 11/4 which was shipped on 11/6 (day of original scan and first scan by the carrier). It is lost in transit. The last scan was by UPS on 11/8 showing it arrived at the UPS facility in Illinois. The seller and I worked with UPS to put in a claim. An investigation was opened on 11/15. We have contacted Mercari customer service...

I bought a pair of shoes. Well let me clarify I clicked buy and paid for the shoes but never received. Seller never shipped. I tried to get updates for 2 weeks. Seller then said sorry I’ll ship today. 5 days later they just cancel. Poof. Gone. Mercari policy is so messed up I cannot do a damn thing about it. No way to warn others due to ridiculous mercsri policy that feedback is only allowed IF the merch is delivered. How stupid is that! This seller cancels half their transactions and keeps a 5 star rating. How misleading, dishonest and possibly fraudulent is that? Customer service does nothing. Closes tickets and shuts you up. No way to complain or warn others
Claimed loss: $40
Desired outcome: As I told everyone for weeks I WANT THE SHOES
Minnie whinnies breyer horses
I bought 17 mini horses . The seller described them as factory condition. Almost all the horses have bowed legs and will not stand up. Called Breyer company and they said they are defective horses. Seller only showed 2 pictures both being side views. Mercari will not refund for this defective item. I paid a lot of money for defective horses. Never buy anything from mercari again!
shipping over charges
I recently sold item #m31175682959 and I had paid for shipping for an 8oz. pkg. It actually weighed 8.5oz. The post office and other sites like ebay charge by the OUNCE, whereas, Mercari charged me for a 1 lb. pkg. of $2.41 rather than the .75c difference between 8oz. item and a 9oz. item. I tried sending an email through the site and I don't think your employee knew what I was talking about. You should start charging like ebay does, and the post office by the ounce instead of jumping right from 8oz. to a pound.
Desired outcome: I'd like a refund of the $1.66 difference between the actual .75 and the over amount that you charged of $2.41. I am not listing anymore new items until this is resolved
My account was closed claiming I listed counterfeit items
Mercari closed my account claiming I listed counterfeit Louis Vuitton lock and key sets. I’m an active reseller on numerous platforms and only purchase from reputable sellers, so this account closure came as a surprise.
I had the lock and key sets authenticated and received certificates from a 3rd party authentication service verifying the lock and key sets are indeed authentic. I reached out to Mercari and asked them to reinstate my account due to inaccurate closure and I attached the certificates of authenticity. They returned my email stating they would not reinstate. Horrible customer service, do not seem knowledgeable when it comes to authenticity, and have dampened one of my streams of income. I’m considering speaking to an attorney because this can’t be legal to do to someone.
Desired outcome: Reinstate closed account
Online purchase
After 4 transactions that for one reason or another complete did not, the final straw was when a package was lost in transit for over a month and when it finally came, the contents had been stolen. Mercari told me that I would have to prove that it came empty... which I'm not sure how I can prove that something DIDNT happen. Otherwise I would not get a refund. This is their scam. They practically dared me to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau... I guess their one star rating couldn't be made worse. They are scammers and do nothing to honor their own Terms & Conditions.
Desired outcome: REFUND
My account capabilities
Last few weeks "I am not able to submit an offer to sellers".
I have been shopping with MERCARI for several years. I have spent "a lot of money".
Your site needs much improvement. I don't have any problems with Poshmark.
Also, Your "SHOCKINGLY HIGH DELIVERY RATES" WILL COST YOU MANY CUSTOMERS.

Customer service
I purchased a Jack La Lanne juicer Pro. Unfortunatly there were a couple to necessary parts missing. The seller and I came to an amicable resolution. She offered to refund $25.00 to cover most of the price to purchase the needed parts. Mercari said that they would only allow for a return. I proveded photos of the machine, the missing parts and a photo of the purchased missing parts. They didnt like the format (pdf), wanted the packing material...and were graciously allow me 24 hours to complete their process. Between the demands of my life (work and some volunteer work that I had commited to). I decided it just wasn't worth it. I suggest to the seller to donate the $25.00 to the victims of the Maui fires.
BEWARE OF MERCARI!
No protection for items not recieved
I ordered an item from a seller on Mercari. The tracking said it was delivered but I never received it. I reached out to Mercari right away and they informed me to take it up with the post office and wait a few days before I could take it up with them again if it was still not recieved. In that time the payment to the seller automatically went through. I reached out to Mercari as they instructed and also included a letter from the post office saying that they could not locate the parcel but it had been marked as delivered. Mercari responded to me that nothing could be done since the seller had been paid even though they told me to wait until the later date to bring up the issue.
Desired outcome: I would like my credit back for my i recieved item.
Glass vase
I bought a vase and it broke. I tried to contact the seller via Mercari's message board but it was deleted by Adm. WHY?
There is nowhere on the website providing information on how to contact Mercari. I will NOT buy anything on this website anymore, because by the time you add the shipping cost, you can really buy a new one for the same or maybe just a little bit more.
Desired outcome: I file a complain with Paypal and hope they can recover the money for me.
Mercari suspend my account and customer service is horrible
Mercari suspended my account saying I needed to provide an ID verification I did but they won't accept my ID for some reason I can't understand and customer service is terrible they don't answer back and if they do they mark the problem as resolved and don't bother with helping you. I have been at this for days and it is very stressful. Mercari has the worst customer service
Mercari
They advertised a power wheelchair. They can't verify my card. I even called my card company and told them I was trying to buy a power wheelchair and there were to be no restrictions for Mercari. It didn't help. I fought for four days with customer service and got no help at all. I can't count how many times I went through the process of trying to buy it, all to no avail.
Desired outcome: I would like to see Mercari go bankrupt!
Customer support
I am a seller and made a sale. I did not receive the notification and had to go into the app to get the label, etc. I was out of town and dropped it as soon as I returned before the weekend with the shipping place- (order placed on the 6th, message sent on the 8th, apparently UPS shipped on 10th according to their receipt, and we all know ups takes at least 6-7 days and it arrived on the 16th, so that tracks.) anyway before that during the weekend at some point the buyer asked again if it had shipped- Again, I never received the notification. Then the app gave the buyer a chance to cancel- and the package is already in transit. Which I had marked on my account- then I made a second sale, and due to the first buyer being given the opportunity to cancel, they froze my account and somehow I automatically lost the second sale, there is no record of the second sale, all messages have been deleted yet the item is “deactivated” meaning it was sold and cancelled. One sale for $128, already in transit- second sale for $92 just magically disappeared. I contact Mercari within 48 hours and explain what is going on, I cannot message on the item, but while I’m waiting for a response from Mercari I message the buyer on her own page, and explain what it going on. She contacts support and they her just to keep the item: and then tell me if you have the receipt send it and we will investigate- when they already knew it was in transit and at this point delivered. The situation had been addressed by myself and the buyer, and yet Mercari somehow found it within their authority to tell the buyer to keep the item and not give me my payment, how that works is beyond me, especially since I never even received any notifications not even the notifications of the messages I was messaging the buyer on her item, trying to get in touch with her because they had blocked the item that she purchased from taking messages, so then I was blocked from messaging her at all ever and the last message I received, which I also got no notification for even though my notifications are all on the last message I received was her telling me that my car I told her that she could keep it and oh well beyond that I lost the other sale and I’m not about to ship some thing else out that I don’t know that I’m gonna get paid for and so there was a third sale as well but I just canceled because Mercari is not trustworthy and can’t be counted on to remit payment when they make a mistake. Support was extremely rude dismissive possibly bought but that’s beside the point I’ve been a seller on my card for years. I’ve had very few problems in five years. I’ve had maybe 3 or 4 issues tops, and only one negative review in the entire five years that I’ve been on there. It is not my full-time job. I don’t check it every day but I expect to get the notifications that I have turned on on the app when I don’t get them, how the hell am I supposed to know things it’s extremely irritating because I have had poor responses from them when dealing with other sellers that I’m missing an item or what not so across-the-board it’s a terrible experience and I’m not going to sell a Mercari anymore but I want my money for my sales and the sales that I missed because of their mistake or that they canceled for no reason but I didn’t even know about that I could see them because I have in my app it showed when it happened but now the messages are gone they’ve been deleted now so I don’t know what’s going on but it’s very very shady and I would not start selling on Mercari. If I were to start doing this again, I would stick to Poshmark. I saw on one review here there is a class action someone is lodging in the event that anyone reads this go looking for it as I will be joining and there are so many others. It can’t be legal for them to just give away items and not pay the sellers what they are due because their app made a mistake - but it’s so impossible to get anyone on the phone by the time you interact with a human they tell you it’s too late. I will also be filing with “fair shake” in case anyone else is trying to get their stolen funds back from Mercari look into that.
Desired outcome: Funds paid and compensation for sales lost due to Mercari mistake
Return fraud
Hi, I desperately need help regarding the return of my Kate Spade watermelon key chain. The buyer claimed this was damaged in transit. She only provided pics of the keychain which she claimed had a missing seed. But there were no pictures of the missing seed. Nor did the agent ask for them. I asked for pictures to verify this as I was suspicious. Mercari refused to cover me under shipping protection even though I shipped this in a dust bag wrapped in tissue paper inside a bubble wrap envelope. They said I needed to have 3 inches of bubble wrap. This was not a fragile item and the packaging was sufficient. The buyer returned a broken used key chain with visible scratches caused from keys. I sent out a new with tag item. The help desk refused to acknowledge this despite my pictures as proof. Return Fraud is the biggest scam on online platforms. The agent should have suspected this as she didn’t have pics of the missing seed and if they properly examined the keychain they would have seen all the scratches. I am very upset because they have a duty to protect their sellers from these scams and they refused to listen and kept quoting shipping requirements. I want my money back for my item.
Desired outcome: I want my money refunded for the cost of this item or I will pursue this with the attorney general. This is fraud and it is illegal. The buyer needs to be held accountable for this scam.
This exact same thing just happened to me. The buyer said the item wasn’t working. Once I received the item it wasn’t the original. They have no protection for the seller and I think this is happening a lot!
Buyer protection
I want to cancel this purchase - m35189279481
I would like to express my dissatisfaction regarding my recent purchase on Mercari. At 4:39 PM, I ordered a Nintendo Switch for my son, but to my dismay, just a minute later at 4:40 PM, I noticed a crucial detail in the bottom of the ad - it stated that the purchase only included a box without the console or joystick. I had also paid an additional 5lb shipping fee, making the total cost amount to $171.
Immediately after realizing the issue, I contacted both the Mercari seller and the website's customer resolution team at 4:40 PM. Mercari responded promptly, instructing me to wait for the seller's reply within 24 hours, after which they would take appropriate action. Unfortunately, just two hours before the completion of the 24-hour period, the seller dropped off an empty box at my specified UPC location.
Regrettably, as of now, Mercari is still awaiting a response from the seller, leaving me frustrated and uncertain about the resolution of this matter.
Desired outcome: refund and buyer protection, provide support contact number
Mercari does not help sellers
I sold any item that was properly listed with what was included in the purchase and Mercari sided with buyer to authorize the claim.
During the return shipment, it was lost in transit. The label was provided my Mercari to the buyer and they did not use any signature confirmation or insurance to protect my goods back.
They are not providing any support and are leaving me in the dark. No support for sellers. Even Ebay will help in this case if the label was provided by them.
Desired outcome: Reimbursment of lost package
Mercari's Lack of Customer Service and Unjust Account Suspension
Mercari blocked me on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for no good reason. They suspended my account indefinitely, leaving me with over $500 in funds pending due to not being able to reach out to buyers. This is frustrating because the merchandise has already been shipped out. They won't respond back to any of my voicemails, emails, or app disputes so it's war. I'm looking to start a class action lawsuit against the company and will start by collecting signatures. They suspended me without probable cause, and nothing is being done about it. Here's a petition that someone started (link: https://www.change.org/p/protecting-reinstating-buyers-seller-s-accounts-on-mercari-no-more-false-accusations?recruiter=416817946&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=copylink&utm_campaign=share_petition&utm_term=share_petition) change.org/p/protecting-r
It's disgusting, they lack customer service skills, and I am stuck in a rough spot because there's nothing left that I can do so this is my last resort, I'm so upset right now. Pretty much to cover the basics, I want Mercari to become more hands-on, to provide a more efficient service for users that have found themselves in a position where they are basically told that regardless of what's said they are going to be found at fault. The petition as a whole will act as a starter to make sure that our voices are being heard, that we demand these injustices to be dealt with in a timely manner. These security issues are clearly flawed when thousands of users are daily being suspended and accused of fraudulent activity.
I sent them my ID and debit card as proof because they stated that there was unusual payment activity, that the TOS was violated, and then flipped the script later by accusing me of having another account which was previously banned when this was in fact my first and only account. The similarities are uncanny. For those of us that have invested so much time and dedication in something, then just thrown out without being told exactly what the issue is, or at least having the opportunity to find a resolution, it's absurd.
A simple Google search will provide you with thousands of results of postings with nothing but complaints, yet Mercari continues to fly under the radar. I feel like I've been violated on multiple occasions, my character is being questioned without concrete evidence to back up their accusations. Without the consumer, they literally have nothing. They have suspended my account, and revoked my privileges, won't answer my phone calls, or respond to my voicemails or emails. What does that tell you about them? I even went as far as leaving a review on both the Google Play Store and the Apple Store. I found myself in the same exact position with people that are fed up, ready to make change, and hit them where it hurts. This type of treatment relates to a dictatorship.
In conclusion, Mercari needs to step up their game and provide better customer service. They need to be more hands-on and efficient in dealing with users who have been wrongfully accused. The petition is a great start to make sure that our voices are being heard and that we demand these injustices to be dealt with in a timely manner. Mercari needs to realize that without the consumer, they have nothing.
About Mercari
One of the key features of Mercari is its user-friendly interface. The platform is designed to be easy to use, even for people who are not tech-savvy. Sellers can quickly create listings for their items, while buyers can easily browse through the available products and make purchases with just a few clicks.
Another advantage of Mercari is its wide range of product categories. Users can buy and sell everything from clothing and accessories to electronics and home goods. This makes it a great place to find unique items that may not be available in traditional retail stores.
Mercari also offers a secure and reliable payment system. When a buyer makes a purchase, the payment is held in escrow until the item is delivered. This helps to protect both buyers and sellers from fraud and ensures that transactions are completed smoothly.
Overall, Mercari is a great option for anyone looking to buy or sell items online. With its user-friendly interface, wide range of product categories, and secure payment system, it's no wonder that Mercari has become such a popular platform for online shopping.
