Excessive Electric Charges
We had received our new "smart" meter in the late fall. We live in the country, 2 people over 64, who don't watch TV, or play games during the day and our NYSEG bill is going up every month with no end in site.
When I talked to customer service, they said we must have an appliance or electrical device that is increasing our usage. This has been a lighter winter 2023-2024 and nothing has changed our usage. Our highest bill was $ 250.00 in the middle of Christmas with extra lights etc. This year no outside lights and unplugging whatever is not in use.
November bill was over $300.00, December bill is about $400.00 and the graph usage on NYSEG web page shows more usage than ever and I am afraid our bill will be over $500.00.
I am disabled, my husband is on seasonal layoff and we can not afford to pay our bill. Credit card used for November, December is late and January is due and February is coming. What do we do? We don't have the finances for this?

I received a bill and spoke with Linda, Jardience, Britney, Ashley. Every month I call and told that I will be removed.
I have spent hours on recorded calls, passed from representatives.. Between owner allocation departments ect. I do not have access to current owners. but it seems convenient to take my information and paste it to your billing requirements. i continue to beg for help in removing my information with regards to this address. I look forward to a written response with resolution. Now I am getting collection notices.

I feel horrible for what is happening. I have started a new Facebook page. People against NYSEG. I plan, in my spare time, to gain a following, grow this page, and take this issue with NYSEG to the Whitehouse. Our local politicians are not helping us, neither is our governor.

No bill
in febuary i called for no bill.found out my adress had been changed and i was put on budget billing.i had it fixed.ihave lived here over 20 years.have not recieved a bill since feburary 2023 except when i call them multiple times.they say it was not getting read so i have them send a person to read meter.still no bill .after over two months i would finally get a bill after several calls.as of now i have two months of meter reads in my account but no bill has been generated for me.a third bill will be coming due in two weeks.
No bill for 9 months
My name is David A. Carrea Sr. I lived at this address from 10/2022 to 7/2023. I called about receiving no bills while I lived there numerous times. I was told that a meter read was needed. I moved from there, and I just got a bill now at my new address? it is very high. I feel like this is not acurate, since I was rarely at this apartment and lived alone.

Nyseg needs to be stopped!
I’ve been on a budget that NYSEG describes as a predictable, and manageable way for customers to pay. My “budget” goes from $170 to $230 back to $170 and now $190. There isn’t anything predictable about their budget plan. In fact it’s highly responsible and unethical to tell someone that we have an option to make things easy and predictable but yet give them no responses and a very unpredictable monthly bill. Someone needs to get NYSEG out of NY

Gas & electric
I have not received a bill of NYSEG in over 8 months. I did not sign up for receiving it on line. But I have looked it up on line and paid it so it doesn't fall behind. Now I get a shut off letter to the tune of $457.14 which I will pay. However, I should be receiving a bill each month. Also the bills are usually estimated. It is very rare that anyone reads the meters. I have discussed the situation with customer service numerous times and nothing changes. This time I requested copies of my bills for the past several years and informed them that I will take this further if nothing changes. They told me it would cost $15 every year after two years of bills. They did say they will start sending monthly bills. We will see if it happens. I'm tired of this!

They over charge. I have a very old meter. I have asked several times to change. Electric bills are so high. Tried to be put on a budget more then once has not happened. They shut you off without a disconnection notice. Then when you pay them they don't hook you back up right away. When called back I was told I was not authorized to speak to someone as my son gave permission for me to talk to someone. So now I feel they don't put the notice to reconnect in till they feel good and ready to. The gut was down the street he could have came right back. Now I am worried about food spoiling and everything
Desired outcome: Service to be turned back on tonight and service to be looked at
They took meter on July 20 and have not replaced and it's now Friday July 21 1:45 in afternoon.
Overbilling error due to nyseg new billing system
My dads nyseg account mistake cost him a lot of money. My dad is 84 only living on ss benefits. He accounts for every penny that comes in and this has cause financial avalanche! He was on auto-pay and what usually is about $200 as budgeted nysyg took an eft payment out of his account for 548.00 for an 84-year senior household that was on a budget plan? Well it could have been worse like another senior friend was charged $1,000! She has got a shut off notice and is on oxygen and scared to death literally fearing death if she has no air.
Because of your error and incorrect payment withdrawal there were not enough left to cover his other monthly budgeted expenses so he was charged over drafted fees $224.00. So, if you add that up it equals fees of ssi $2004.00 – nyseg eft - $772 = $1268.
He has not been able to catch up since and now has no choice but to sell his home – the last thing he owns just to be able to live out the rest of his life now in a totally different direction. Thanks a lot nyseg!

New York State gas and electric
Received a bill in August after NYSEG finally could read my meter. Avg bill was $150 to $250 and then boom $1300. I could understand this since they had been estimated for a year. Then the following month once I opted in to report readings myself and boom $1200 so I called and said this can’t be right, they looked and agreed with me and credited me back $1100.. this was back in sept of 2022. It’s now almost May of 2023 haven’t received a bill. I’ve called multiple times telling them I’m not receiving a bill and that I have seen horror stories online of “you guys hitting people with $5000 and $13000 bills” one person said yes this is absurd and would escalate this to billing to get me sorted out.. month goes by still nothing. Called again complaining and lady who answered told me billing is backed up and that yes I will “probably receive an astronomical bill” told me I should “just pay money” with no bill. This is insane. How is this legal. It’s impacting my life because I can’t budget, I can’t make plans because I don’t know how much money I owe. I’ve filed a complaint with NYS. No response. I don’t know what else to do.

Over billing and false accusations against dog
False accusations against someone's dog is not only slanderous it's harassment according to the law. My dog is not vicious, has never attacked anyone, EVER.
The only complainant about my dog, is you folks at NYSEG.
Which is telling, I find it ironic that a company who has a monopoly is making animosities with it's customer base.
I have Propane delivered, countless Amazon and package deliveries, and random people at my property. I live out in the middle of the woods. Was told by the NY State Attorney general that "I must keep my dog tied up".
Nope, I live in the middle of a rural area along with all the other farms with dogs that are not tied up, we use them for PROTECTION out here, so that people are not randomly walking up to your property to ROB you or do a HOME INVASION. Which crime has become so prevalent in NY.
Since we keep getting higher and fluctuating bills, I recently went through my entire house and replaced all of my bulbs with LED lights and have become very "electricity conscious".
So that dramatically lowered my bill, to which NYSEG flagged our account claiming there was an issue. They actually questioned WHY our electric usage dropped so much...
Who would have thought, right, charge me more, I use less. Imagine that?
Keep harassing us and I go full solar and live like the Amish, THAT's how sick of your company we are.
Desired outcome: Start treating your customers fairly.
So after we started using less electricity, they claimed that they couldn't process the billing in February so then sent us February's bill and March's bill... All in one bill then demanded that we pay it within 2 weeks or be charged late fees.
When we were able to question a billing person at NYSEG, we were told in a VERY sarcastic and snarky fashion that "We shouldn't have spent that money then should we have?"...
To which I informed the little person on the other end that we as shareholders just sold the 100+ shares in their company to service their double billing.

Gas Valve has bolt on it
I had all the pipes stolen from my property and I had 5 ft of water in my basement. Water and NYSEG was turned off for safety. All pipes, Furnace and Hot water tank have been replaced. The company that did everything said there is still a bolt on the gas valve. I have been transferred to the ESI? department 4 times and have sat on hold for over an hour every time and then I would have to hang up to work. How am I supposed to get heat in my house if I am not being helped properly?
Desired outcome: someone answer the phone so they can tell me why the bolt is still on the gas valve
Gas and electric
for months now we have been getting "creative billing". I pay NYSEG online so I don't receive paper bills in the mail. I get an email stating when our bill is coming due and the link to pay. I go on their site and pay only to find there is more from the previous month that went "unpaid". After 2 months of this I have been pulling up the actual bill and there is no amount on the bill that was stated in my email. For example, (last month's billing which was due 3/15/23) received my email which stated I owed $343 and change. I went online and paid it. I get an email today (3/21/23) stating that our bill is due and we owe $75 and change.
look at the bill and no where on that bill are the amounts of $343 (or even that i paid that amount) or $75 that is still due AND our next bill which is due soon is $418 and change.
After receiving a higher than normal bill for the month of January, (which we have had a very mild winter and we expected to have bills that reflected that) I called to make an appointment to have someone come and make sure our meters were in good working order. I had to make 4 appointments, left work early on one occasion, wasting countless hours on the phone for customer service, only to have no one show. To date, 3/21/23, no one has come to do this.
I am livid. If I didn't pay our bills, you can be sure we would be hearing from NYSEG and they would be looking for resolution. And what is our recourse? NYS is supposed to be regulating these gas and electric companies. Where are they?

Same here. I was on budget billing...Never realized that they were not charging me for electricity service for the past 8 months! Only just charging me for the gas. Low and behold, the other day I get a bill for 500 dollars...when I usually pay 189. WTF? I am very pissed. I called customer service only to be placed on hold for 1.5 hours. I actually work full time and had no way of staying on hold or having them call me back as it holds your place in line. It's absolutely criminal what they are doing, and I have no recourse to get my bill corrected!
Same thing here... They flagged our account because they keep doing this to us, SO I went through my entire house replacing all lights with LED, and reducing all electricity usage to a bare minimum.
They flagged my account for February and didn't send us a bill... Though we asked them for one repeatedly, they refused to respond and wouldn't even tell us the problem so that we could tell them,
"Yes, we reduced our electricity usage because of your higher rates and double billing practices, what do you THINK would happen?"
Keep messing with us and I will have solar put in and forego being hooked to the grid at all.(I live in a log cabin in the middle of the woods.)

they are underestimating my usage by a lot and my bill is high one month and low the next. there is a difference of 505kWh between the estimate and the actual. I pay my bills on time. but when I get bills that are $130 one month and the next 87.00.
Why are they not reading the meter every month? This company needs to get it together. Plus you have a D+ rating with the BBB.
Desired outcome: just to fix the fluctuation people are not rich.

My electric bill has been high and almost double every month since November, along with past due balances that came out of nowhere. My bill went from $186 a month to $400 a month. I have made numerous attempts by phone as well as email to address the issue with no response back. As a family of 5, money is very tight and these amounts are ridiculous. I would like my bill resolved.

NYSEG only sends us sporadic, extremely high bills and they always have unknown charges on them from months ago. First, we received a bill in December 2022 for the months of 09/22-11/22 totaling $528, which we paid. Then last week we received a bill for $2500, for the months of 09/22-12/22, and today we got another bill for $620, for 12/22-02/23. Unable to reach customer service as I’ve been on hold for the last three hours.
Desired outcome: An investigation into their bad billing practices and I want a breakdown of what each charge is and how it was figured. I want all I known charges dropped. I also want written evidence that meter was actually read

Panko Electric with DeVincentis General Contractors is working on the renovation of the Dittrich Street Pump Station in the Town of Union in Endicott, NY. They need to disconnect the 200 Amp 240 volt service in order to redo and reroute the secondary distribution underground to the pump station, generator and control panel. Once they are completed with their work, NYSEG would need to reconnect the secondary service conductors to the existing pole lines. The owner of the account is Town of Union. The pump station is located behind the Gault BMW dealership on North Street in Endicott.
Desired outcome: Get service shutoff IMMEDIATELY. Turn back on when contractor is complete with secondary service upgrade.

I have a campground in upstate NY. I have turned all the accounts to my name with automatic withdrawal. My electric has been shut off twice. I paid all of my accounts in full in September/October to have them turned off again. I would like some answers and compensation now. I have every last detail documented and recorded on my phone. There has better be some resolution and I am talking NOW... [protected].

On 02/10/2023 the power lines that connects to my house was pulled forward, so the line was hanging low in the road. Being Nyseg is responsible for the line from the road I called them. Customer service was great and they arrived in under 2 hours. Unfortunately when they arrived to reconnect the lines to my house they did so in the most inconsiderate and lazy way possible. They did not reattached one of the brackets and left a 3 foot piece of flashing dangling in the breeze. This not only presents a safety issue because a piece of metal is banging back and forth making contact with the line itself. But a common sense issue because the flashing is supposed to go behind where they attached the power. It would have taken all of 2 minutes to reattach the flashing. 2 minutes to make a customer happy. I attempted to call customer service but if course got nowhere. Pathetic must be nice to be the only gig in town.

Electricity bills from NYSEG
We did not get a electricity bill since July 2022, now 2 weeks ago we got our first bill of 3342.
We got suprice how high it was, but we where going to pay for it, but the next day they send another one for 3695, we where shocked. 2 days later it when to 13,415, my wife called she got hang-up after she explained the nyseg agent. 2 days later when from 13,415 to 13,643... 2 days after to 14,040 another 2 days passed and jumped to 14,437. My wife called again and they said they would come on the 7th to check the meter reading. We are so scared, dont know what to do.
