treated unfairly; among other things.
I've been working at Ross for a year now, I'm one "Full-Timer" of the 4 Full-Timers and I could tell you now everybody hates working there except one person, The front end supervisor, and if I worked 9-5 with weekends off and got better pay then the others, I would like to work at Ross to. The Management is so unfair and so unprofessional it makes me sick. The store manager has his head so far up his ### because he's getting a promotion as a District manager. They don't care about their employees, all they care about is profit. The par-timers are reusable we go through them like nothing and they are just there to fill up the empty spots that us full timers leave. There is a lead stockroom person thats been working there for a year, and has had that position for a year and she still gets paid 7.50. Not only does she have to lead a lazy stockroom that doesn't give a ### where things go, and the managers don't care neither. She also has to be in customer service, do go backs and occasionally do projects. The store manager is married and has asked her numerous times to go to lunch together. She has weekends off and she work from 5 am-1 p.m.. Then there is a full timer sales floor full timer, and that works from 1 p.m.-close every day, get paid 7.50, and NEVER has set days off. she has the biggest and most hardest department to take care of, but is always forced to do other things like cover lunches and breaks, run go backs, run the register, do projects, and at the time of closing have the department look perfect, and when it doesn't they go over it with her like she is a little kid. She has been working there a year also. Then there is the lead SPS. First, I would like to say the SPS don't do anything. They actually watch the customers walk right out the doors with stolen merchandise. Not because their lazy, it's because the SPS is there to watch the employees not the customers who steal from open to close. The store manager has actually said don't approach the "customers" when their stealing, don't stop them at the door, and don't ever show that you suspect them of anything, because he don't want to lose "customers". The SPS are only there to look like there is security there, when really there is 0. The lead SPS gets paid 9.00 but still it's not worth it. Then last but certainly not last, the front end supervisor. She doesn't do have the job. She doest nub or hard tag the clothes when they get returned, she rarely retickets the clothes, and she has the easiest. She works banker hours and lately has been having weekends off. she'll call in, and it's like no big deal she gets paid 8.50 . None of the full timers have got their yearly raise yet and they told us we wont get it till June or July! When everybody knew what others got paid the managers had a meeting with us and said if ANYTHING about raises or pay they get terminated. Because the two full timers who they call "supervisors" still get paid 7.50 while the others get paid more. The one thats screwed the most is the sales floor person, she closes every single night, she works the worst hours and gets used the most. I feel bad for her but just like all of us we need the job, the management know that and they use that against us!
This company is so F'd up, they have a lawsuit coming their way and they don't even realize it. Their treating their employees so badly they don't have any feeling, their like Ross robots. Don't buy things from here, the Store Manager finds old things and retickets them and sells them. They tell their employees don't give customers a hard time when returning items that aren't ours and that look badly used. If they could sell dust, they would! Don't work here and don't shop here!

employment of no english speaking staff
Please know that I am not a bigot, racal profiler, racist or ethnically biased. I am American born citizen of immigrant people who came to this country, eager to learn & speak English and that English was the language of this country that has given them and their decedents a home in a land of free and equal people these many years. With that said; I am...

I actually know who this person is talking about and I have to just say a lot of that context is coming in half truths. I do not work for Ross but I do know the person that replaced her as Stock Lead.. and it was 3 months of this person being MIA in and out with health issues/car problems/family issues that lead to the replacement. You can not expect any company like ross who has a turnover rate of employees that will make your head spin, to hold a position.. much less a lead position for anyone. (they fire people like they are a carnival of unemployement) Plus it is Texas .. no wrongful termination can be brought.. AT WILL employement... the worst policy of them all...
I am soo sorry for your loss. :( That is RIDICULOUS! Ross and Corp. can all go to hell! I know half of the people that work there are illegal. I work at a location thats a nicer area and I love everyone I work with.. well most of them.. but some locations cheat the system on hiring people. Their hiring system is screwy, and they will pinch every last penny out of your paycheck that they can. ###ing idiots.
I'm sorry about the stress and the worry you had over your dad because of Ross adding to it. I hope he's alright, and I also hope you sued the hell out of them.
As long as all your medical papers check and the FAMLA law in your state says so everything should go well for you in your suit... sorry about your dad and the stress you're having. Best wishes.
unorganized stores
I was recently given a gift card to Ross Dress For Less. I was really disappointed in the 1. Coral Springs, 2. Deerfield Beach, 3. Margate and 4. Fort Lauderdale locations.
I need suits for work and they were less than Macy's and Dillards. The problem is it's so unorganized and they don't have merchandise, which leads me to believe, that Ross could be going out of business. What a mess. I did spend the gift card, but it took me four locations to complete. They don't have the same merchandise and the clearence corner has different pricing. I'm boing back to Macy's.

Thank you! Yes, we are NOT going out of business lady. Trust me. I heard a kid at work today say, "I'm not going to hang these back up, what do you think theyre paid to do?"
Its like these people have never been taught how to fold or hang up their clothes, or how to pick up after themselves. My hell.
Do you think its Ross fault customers REFUSE to be neat, REFUSE to put stuff back when they changed their mind while they still shopping so somehow you guys figure its okay to drop the merchandise where ever. They feel like the employees are maids or the shop is magic and anything on the floor will magically put its self back where its found and because many people like Ross prices 2x that amount comes to the store between 400 to 700 0r more that walk in the store and 5 to 6 employees that are working 3 on cashier, 2 in stock and 1 in fitting room whose gonna have time to clean after you guys all day. Oh and there is NO night shift crew that comes in and clean after you guys; the workers you see from about 5pm or later are the night crew that cleans after you customers that have the nerve to come in rude and with all kinds of attitude. FYI you guys do not pay our paycheck as so you like to think. What you pay for is the merchandise that you bought and take home with you. If you really want to be accounted for paying anyone paycheck just hand money without buying anything.

staple in boot

The manager came to take a complaint I been on the phone with Ross and they giving me the run around saying they cant get in touch with the manufacture to resolved this issue its been going on for about three months now. Can someone help me with this issue?

Sounds like you... shot yourself in the foot there
horrible moments
I always check my receipt before leaving the store. I noticed a $14.99 Men's apparel in my receipt that I never buy so I asked the cashier. The cashier called the manager and right away she made up a story that he saw a man standing next to me but I am by myself. I said I'm in a hurry so just take it off from my receipt. The manager said "then go home and come back tomorrow". The rude manager said that they cannot take that off without further investigation. I waited for 45 minutes and while waiting the security was guarding me like I'm a thief. I asked where the manager went and that's when she told me that the manager was watching the camera and found out that the cashier was checking for the price at the book and accidentally scan a Mens Apparel for $14.99. The cashier was apologizing but the manager did not even come back to me to apologize. He went back to work and did not even look at me.
Worst experience ever. Been shopping at Ross stores for over 10 years and employees here are most lazy racial and ungrateful people what ever happen of customer always right never again I bill band all stores and will continue to spread the word of my store experience.
sadden of ignorant people... further action will be done.
There are so many people that steal you have to treat everyone like a thief... Sorry that it happen to you. I feel that an apology from the cashier was sufficient, the managers are way too busy to walk back and apologize. They work 10 hour shifts with no lunch sometimes. I can say this even though I hate working tat Ross and I do not like my managers... Hope that makes you feel better.
The manager was very rude. Why be suspicious. Cashiers do make mistakes. What happened to "the customer is always right" Ross!
can you answer me...
I have worked for ROSS for about 2 years now, and I'm GLAD to say I'm leaving. I started working there as a stock room associate. I then moved to SPS for about 6 months. From that I jumped to an Area Supervisor, the biggest mistake you can make at ROSS. If you like being paid worse than the McDonald's patty flipper, then this is the job for you. You would think when I offered them $13.00 a hour they would jump on that. They shot it down to $10.50 and said take it or leave it. Pumped for the job i just said whatever. Upon working as management I realized just how bad this company is. I found myself dealing with a horrible Store Manager who clearly was not emotionally stable, and can't handle store issues. An Assistant Store Manager how sits on her butt all day, making double my pay doing have the work i do. Now that I was forced to place my two week notice, two weeks early, you would think I was a piece of ### on the bottom of the ROSS shoe. The only good thing a can say about ROSS is that the HR team is always willing to help you out. That might be because they get called all the time seeing as to how the Corp. is a joke.

WORST JOB EVER! BEEN WORKING HERE FOR TWO YEARS CAN'T WAIT TO LEAVE...HORRIBLE AND LAZY MANAGERS, LACK OF COMMUNICATION, UNORGANIZED, UNDERPAID, UNAPPRECIATED, AND WAY OVERWORKED EMPLOYEES.
I only worked at ROSS for a few months as a seasonal, which I did not even know I was being hired as until AFTER they hired me and sent me home with the company ROSS packet, which in it stated my employment was only for 90 days, with a possibility of being re hired as a permanent after that time. I was trained for about two weeks, in which time my hours dropped from 25 a week to barely 10 a week, for not moving fast enough. The store manager told me she intentionally cut my hours because that was the only way she felt she could get through to me and for me to pick up my pace. I was enraged beyond all hell at that point but i sucked it up and made double effort to move my ### even faster. But things didn't get any better. I was working on the stockroom team and I had the manager on my ### at least twice because of merchandise being ran wrong or sloppily, even though I had not ran out the section that was done wrong. And if i slowed my paced momentarily to try and figure out where an item went so i could correctly put it away, I would get scolded by a stockroom team member who would tell me that we are pressed for time to get everything put away and it dosent matter. Not to mention that when running shoes, I was told not to organize only to put the shoes I had on the hummer away, and ONLY to size and organize the section in which i was assigned for which i would have multiple customers come up to me and complain about the disorganization. In December of 2011, they finally laid me off for which i did not get a phone call, letter, email, or private meeting. I simply showed up to work one day to check my schedule and found my name was no longer on there, and when I went into the assistant managers office he told me that the manager was supposed to have told me about this a week ago and I no longer worked there but was still eligible for rehire at another ROSS. I'm telling you this company does not care about their employees at all!
I use to work at ross, it was a horrible experience, I only lasted 8 months. The manager, the assistant manager and supervisors, were all very disrespectful to the employees. I was told to quit and look for another job when I wanted to switch shifts with another co worker. The stress of having to go to work in that negative environment took a toll of me and I quit. Would anyone know how I can contact someone in HR to get a letter stating that I know longer work for that company?
hired to be a slave.
I'm not sure if any of you still access this section of the complaints board, but I currently work at Ross. I'm not at all amused at how this company works. I've read multiple complaints on this particular area of this website, and I'm amazed at how much crap I can relate to. It starts with the managers that subliminally degrade us and expect us to succumb to their devious ways. I'm getting sick of it ALL! I've been there since May 2010 and things haven't changed at all. When will the madness end? I've even considered contacting the district manager in my area, but after reading some of these stories, I'm a bit worried that my cry for help won't do anything. We're supposed to be honored not belittled and tortured. Where's the love? What do I do besides quit? If you can help or want to share experiences, e-mail me at [protected]@ymail.com
Explanation. We can go to cars on lunch breaks. That is the only time we can go to our cars.
I totally understand. They look through women's pocketbooks but I haven't seen anyone searched. They told us we could not go to our cars on breaks because someone was hit by a car in another Ross and sued the company. We can go to other stores as long as we don't go to the parking lot. We can go to our cars on breaks. The better we do as far as ringing the sales the more they tend to reduce hours. I was told to be busy 100% of the time. They push so hard and are never satisfied with your performance. There are never enough bags which makes it very hard to do your job. Almost everyone is bilingual but me. There are a few who speak only Spanish in the back. Sometimes their own employees will give you a hard time because you can't give them a discount without their discount card and license or state ID/.
I thought I was the only one that felt this way. They have no respect for you and they feel like they can talk to you anyway they want and it is because headquarters lets them get away with it. I wish there was something we could do to change it. I worked in San Antonio in the loading and receiving and they would only talk in Spanish and I got hurt because of it and told the manager and she wouldn't do anything about it. No one should get treated this way. I could right a book on everything that went on. Everything yall have written is so true...
I cannot express how much I understand what you are going through. I honestly think its their own brand of personal encouragement for what ever these managers are lacking. I am happy to report that my store manager got what was coming to him, and now we have to implement something called state law. Poor MODs they are now entitled no encouraged with the pending loss of their jobs, to give us our lunch breaks and 15 minutes according TO LAW. All I can say is don't let their stupidity ruin your own lease on life. Nothing aggravates a depressed nobody than your own love for your own life. Keep going and stay above the BS.
Ross Store Manager In San Jose/ Campbell, California. Is a really mean and horrible person. She goes out of her way to make my job I STILL HAVE NOT BEEN TRAINED TO DO a horrible 8 hours a week experience~ The ROSS WAY is insaine to say the least and to put it as nicely as I can. I have been employed there since the begining of December of last year. The employees and the management has done NOTHING to train me for any position in this retail store. The stuck me in the fitting room area and left me there. Only to show up out of the blue once or twice a shift to yell at me for what THEY DID NOT TRAIN ME TO DO. The hanging up of the items BY THE CUSTOMER and the SECRET SHOPPERS are enough to make ANYONE go completely postal on anyone. The fact that our stores clientel 99.9% does NOT speak english, makes this job even worse. The Only store manager that actually wants to improve on this store, is degraded behind his back and the other store managers and ALL the other employees that have been there for well over 10 years EACH undermine his authority every time he turns his back on them. He tells me to do something on my shift and I only try to make his job easier and I am very loyal and helpful. As soon as I am working on another managers' shift, I am litterally YELLED AT by her becuase she says thats NOT the Way Thigns Are Supposed To Be DONE. What I would like to know is... Whos In Charge Of This Hell HOLE~ I litterally call my 2 days they offer me a week DAYS IN HELL. ANOTHER THING!~ EVERY TIME! I Ask them to work with the hours I PROVIDED TO THEM THAT I AM AVAILABLE TO WORK... They remove me completely from the schedule! WHO DOES THAT to a mother trying to support her family. Thank god my husband works or we would be dead thanks to them by now. ALSO ANOTHER THING!~ They call at the LAST MINUTE before I am due to show up to work to let me know that they REVISED the schedule and are letting me know that I will not need to come in ON THAT VERY DAY! NOT COOL~ THEN, promiss me another day to replace the day they took from me, ONLY TO FIND OUT THE DAY I AM TO COME IN AS PROMISSED...SORRY WE OVER SCHEDULED THERE IS NO HOURS FOR YOU. MY GAW!~ How they treat us employees at ROSS is horrible and unbelievable to say the least. The SO CALLED SECURITY/LOSS PREVENTION there...I AM THE ONLY ONE SEARCHED at the end of my shifts and when I go out to the parking lot at breaks to smoke. THEY CAN SEE I am not stealing anything. I dont understand!~ Something has GOT TO BE DONE about this place. It is a DEGRADING PLACE TO WORK!~ ON A DAILY BASIS!~ I STILL HAVE NOT BEEN TRAINED!~

@StealthPilot - Sure, it's nice to have a job, but if you're in my position, you'd know what I'm talking about. Also, if you read other people's comments on this company, you'd definitely see where I'm coming from. Don't come at me like I'm wrong when you have no idea what we go through working for this place.
That's the Ross way. Don't expect professionalism or gratitude and you will not be disappointed when you are treated sub-human. If you need the money and can stick it out, do so, otherwise, quit because it's not going to get any better.
management
No equipment available to employees-Price gun, printer, ticket gun, tickets, needles
Management not solving problems but blame cashiers for technical, or customer related problems-refusal to step in and help
Not allowing cashiers to properly ticket, tag, and nub returns but state to take the next customer
Not allowing cashiers to get the product out when only two customers in line and three cashiers available
Not solving problems of security to do their job and not interrupt cashiers
No correct size security containers available to get products out
Not allowing proper training of new employees when few customers and several cashiers available but are told to take next customer
Improper count of change and pulls from cashiers drawers causing shortages for cashiers-not allowing cashiers to count what goes in and comes out of drawer
Management not solving problems but instead blames cashiers for technical problems, customer problems, or slow transactions due to multiple returns of customer
The General Manager is James Acosta
Instead of assessing these problems and finding solutions, the General Manager will get on to the cashier/supervisor for not having work done instead of providing proper equipment or solving technical or customer problems
Improper counting of cash pull from drawer on register 1 was verified on Oct 24-twice in a row by cashier and then in the same day money was taken for change and change given without allowing cashier to verify-change was not bundled-shift was from 9:30 AM-2 PM
Too many expectations are given to the Front End Supervisor #2 at customer service when security (Jerry) is talking and remaining behind customer service while interrupting in sales and my duties
I will have to greet customers and guide customers to the line with returns/exchanges when that is security's job
The security is yelling at me during sales and refuses to get bags, equipment, etc. When addressing the problem to the General Store Manager, I was brought into the office and reamed for not doing my job properly to the point of tears
Please help.
line too long.
We waited in line for 25 minutes and only 2 cashiers were working. There were other employs that were walking around instead of cashering. The manager was rude. And i was very displeased with the whole shopping experience.!
Hello, you are one of the ### hat customers that I despise so much. Ignorant, self centered, self absorbed, content only with complaining. I work at a Ross, just in case you are unawares, they understaff us constantly. Most likely the "workers" casually walking around were probably not assigned check stands, and in that case, they CAN'T check. Most likely you were a vibrant ### and the managers simply told you they did not have any more checkers, at least that's what I see on a day to day basis. The fact that you would shop at a Ross just shows how inconsistent your moral fiber is. You DO REALIZE that much of their product comes from overseas sweatshops and is marked up about 1000%, so when you "think" you're saving all this money and getting a good deal, it's most likely because it was made by children in India, is broken, or is a knock off... Even the Polo stuff that Ross Carries, is a KNOCK OFF, it's not even real. Listen lady, you seem just like everyone else, totally self absorbed and ###, but why don't you pull your head out for just a moment and look at the bigger picture... Sub optimal work environments like Ross that continually undermine not only our job markets, but workers rights, and also human right's as a bigger picture should be illegal and the people that support and allow them to continue operating by purchasing their disgusting products should be prosecuted for accomplice to a criminal system. Good job.
We do have really really long lines sometimes... and with how much we're getting cut back from us right now, theyre only letting 2 people cashier besides MOD's on weekdays, if this store is anything like mine. The day after black Friday we had 30 min. lines, because everyone was buying hundreds of dollars worth of stuff, and they dont give us enough counter space to put everything. Plus our carts dont go out the door so you have to bag everything in a specific way to make it easy for the customer to get out with it all. So she's definitely not bull ### about it.
25 minutes... really. What was this Black Friday at a WalMart? Considering it takes 1-4 minutes per person tops, you would have to had a crap-load of people in the line.
Sounds to me like you're ###ting about the time - as no one sane would wait more than 10 minutes in line for anything other than Disney Land
rude employee
The women who watches the fitting room at 8pm was being awfully obnoxious and rude. Makes me think "how in the world did she get this job?". If this is the person you want to represent your company, then you must have pretty low standards. Here is what happened: So, I was walking towards the fitting room carrying a pair of jeans when the women who worked at the fitting room (whose name I did not get) stopped me and asked for a ticket. I walked passed and overlooked the sign that said I needed a ticket number. So then, she said "is the sign not big enough for you? can you even read?" in an awfully obnoxious manner. I was quite angry when she said that but I kept my cool and I apologized for overlooking the sign, but she wouldn't forgive me or accommodate me with a ticket. I was like forget about it, if she is going to treat me like a second class citizen I am going to take my business elsewhere. So, I left without purchasing anything. I will never shop at this place ever again.

customers: give us a break
I have been working for Ross for just over 3 months. What I have seen from working at this company has astounded me. I understand we are a discount clothing store, but what I don't understand is the treatment we as employees receive. And it's not just from customers either, it's corporate as well. They expect stores to somehow manage off of 3% payroll, which is a number I have never seen before. My prior jobs used 10+% because they KNEW that anything lower would be problematic. Most stores are only allowed to have a handful of full-time employees, generally around 5 from what I've seen. Then what they do to is use the rest of the payroll budget on hiring part-time help. During Back to School, the store I worked at had 56 part-time employees, almost all of them receiving less than 20 hours a week. Managers are also required to use a corporate-mandated "Effective Scheduling" method, which my managers have called "worthless" and "laughable." Combine this with the fact that part-time help is not eligible for benefits, sick/vacation time, and usually start out at minimum wage, and you'll begin to see why a lot of employees aren't happy. When you only work 12-15 hours a week at minimum wage, you can't afford life. You can't afford to visit a doctor if you get sick. No one likes being in a situation like that, yet these companies are so focused on "the bottom line" that they refuse to change. I have actually been in touch with my zone's HR Manager and have asked them face-to-face why they think these policies are acceptable when it is toying with the livelihood of their workers. What it boils down to is that Ross Corporate could pay their people more, but they don't want to because it will cut into their executive bonuses. If anyone wants to suggest ways of fighting corporate further, please leave a comment.
And to customers who complain that the stores are messy, here's something you may want to consider: we clean the store on a nightly basis - sometimes even staying until 1 am. This being the case, the only way that the stores would get messy is because of people refusing to hang items back up properly, refusing to put items back where they found them, opening packages despite the fact that we have signs that say "Thank You for Not Opening Packaging, " people leaving their children unattended in the toys section, people breaking hangers and not telling an associate about it. Now admittedly, there are good customers. But a majority of those who come in and shop at our stores are rude, snot-nosed, egotistical jerks. Working in the fitting room one day, I actually had a customer assault me for asking them to retrieve their hangers from the fitting room. I've watched as customers purposely remove multiple items from their hangers, only to throw them on the floor or toss them over the racks. I've found wrappers from fast food restaurants with vomit in them, and dirty diapers in the gondolas. You yell at us for not being able to return your items without a receipt, completely ignorant of the fact that we have to answer to someone if we do process your return; we have to follow policy, it's nothing personal. But when you treat us the way you do, do you really expect us to treat you the same way in return? To those of you who are kind, put items back where you found them, keep your children with you and are understanding when we can't help, thank you. I will treat you nicely and most likely even compliment you for being kind. To the rest of you who constantly berate staff, cause scenes at the registers, become enraged over us asking you to do something simple, yell at us and leave your children unattended while you try clothes on, screw you. The only "customer service" you'll get from me is poor until you change your attitude.

And to insomniac4hire
THANK YOU! Your complaint is the best Ive read by far. You explain it to the T! I HATE customers that complain, say the store looks aweful, all that crap when generally they are the ones making the mess. We do not get paid nearly enough to take the crap we get, and to clean up after every single person, as they make a mess. I watched two Indian ladies come out of the fitting room with their clothes wadded all up, and hangers stuffed between them, and they just handed them to the attendant. He wouldn't take it and said, could you please hang those back up for me? And they just looked at each other like.. "uhmmm... whatever.." and slowly started to put them back on, finally decided they were going to keep them halfway through, and they took the clothes over to the Junior section and threw them ALL over the floor and tried to walk away. My coworker then got upset and said "excuse me? Ladies I need you to pick up the merchandise" and they started to scream at him and told him he was paid to clean up after them. They went home, told a husband, who came back and proceeded to chew us out, saying that the women said we told them to pick up the clothes, throw them on the ground, pick them up again, and put them all away where they found them. bahaha my coworker was like "no, I WISHED I would have done that though." The husband just laughed it off and left when he realized they had completely lied.
They have to check us when we leave to see if we are stealing anything. I think thats fair. Someone could easily be smuggling merchandise out of the store.

I went into Ross today to look for some shoes. I found a pair I liked very much, but they ran a size too small. I went to the front desk and waited in line. The cashier was backed up and called for another assoicate to come and help her, and since I was next to be serviced I went to the next register with my question. I asked the cashier if there was a way to call another store to see if they had a bigger size of the shoe I wanted. She said "NO, we do not do that." I then asked her for a number to another Ross so I could call myself, and she said "No, we do not do that." I said your kidding me and she just stared at me. I put the shoe's down on the register and before I could ask another question the women yelled out "Next!" As an assistant manager at a different retail store I know that our store policy is that we contact nearby stores in order to determine if they carry the item a customer is requesting, and that has also been the policy with several other retail positions I have been in. I found her attitude and actions to be extremely unprofessional and inappropriate for a retail market which strives on customer satisfaction in order to retain their current clientelle. Unfortunately due to the way I was treated I was too frustrated to think to get the name of the cashier I spoke with, although I know that they were the backup cashier around 7:00-7:30 this evening (9/12/2010).

disabilty discrimination
I worked at Ross Dress For Less in Memphis, TN on Summer Avenue for about 2 months as a stock room associate.I had been working there for I say about 2 days and my manager Angelique Montgomery was aware of my disabilty before she hired me, anyways she starts saying I have to speed things up.Okay I am like I am moving as fast I as can.So almost everyday she nagged at me saying I was not being productice I have eto move faster. One time she called me to the side and talked to me saying that if I can move fast enough then I am fired.I heard that almost everyday. Then she finally called 3 people to the back for a metting (thenewhires). And she stated to me that my hands does not have anything to do with my legs functioning to do my work.I sat there appaled like I know she did not just say that.To top that off she has a nasty attitude and cant even com municate with customers and here employees in the right manner. So I have choose to file a Discrimination Law Suite against her.

You people! You complain and complain and complain about the employees when you fail to realize that we don't make the policies!
I am always extremely polite with people. Even when they have completely unnecessary attitudes toward me. I go out of my way to help anyone who asks me for help, and if a customer walks away from me unhappy or dissatisfied its always, always because of a policy they don't agree with. We cannot return things that have been washed. Don't get pissed at me it's not my fault. We cannot help how long our lines are, i'm working as fast I can to ring you up, detach security tags, fold your clothes (Which I take the extra time to do even if it is not required of us) hang up returns, do price checks, answer phones and be polite to you. Not to mention that all our equipment is older than I am and half the time we're out of bags. Do you want to know how my training went? I had none. They threw me on a register the first day and said it's pretty much self-explanatory.
I'm sorry if we don't have a public restroom but you know what? It's not our fault. It's your fault. It costs money to have to unclog the toilet every time you people stuff it full with paper towels. It costs money to have someone come in and clean it every hour. And money is something the ceos can't let go of. That's right, they're the ones who tell us to close it off. We don't make the decisions. And they definitely won't keep it open when half the people who use the bathroom like to get human waste everywhere but the toilet. Someone has to clean it up.
Also? The shoplifting. Don't think we don't know. Don't think by any means that we haven't seen you switch those tags, stuff those purses or carry merchandise into the bathroom. I'm not stupid, just highly tolerant. I also feel bad for you. You must be extremely pathetic to be shoplifting 1.99 panties. Just know that every time you shoplift, you think your not hurting anyone but the big company, but think again. All the losses get cut out of our hours, and we've got bills to pay. It also raised the prices for honest citizens.
So the store is messy? Well how about you people start acting your age and start treating the place with respect. Why am I having to pick up after women twice my age? Why can't you follow simple etiquette? Drop it, pick it up. Pick it up, put it back. It really says a lot about you and your practices when you leave random crap you changed your mind about 6 aisles from where it's supposed to be. You people are neanderthals. Oh and guess what? We are not babysitters. Do not leave your disgusting offspring unattended! (I still can't believe you animals actually breed) because guess what? Not only do they tear apart merchandise that would've been sold to pay our pathetic wages but child predators actually come to ross because they view it as open buffet. It actually took 45 minutes once to find the mother of a 3 year old. And she hadn't even realized he was gone. Why do we have to come find you to tell you your child needs you? Why won't you watch your kids so they don't # all over our floors? And why don't you have the decency to pay for the crap your kids broke or opened? You'd do that anywhere else. What is it about ross that makes you forget how to behave morally?
Lastly, if you want to blame someone blame corporate. Go ahead I encourage you. They are the ones cutting corners however they can so they can rake in more profits. If anything you should pity us, the sales associate. We are the ones getting paid minimum wage to deal with you, get yelled at by you, stay 2 hours after close to clean up after you so it's presentable for you in the morning, and after that limp home to catch a few hours of rest only to repeat this hell in the morning. If I could, I would quit but the economy is not what it used to be.
Now i'm not saying all ross employees are as awesome as I am, neither am I saying that all ross customers are evil. But i'm sorry to say that a huge percentage of our customers make life a living hell. God bless a few of you. The ones who pick up after themselves or after the pigs. Or who greet my smile with a genuine one of their own. Thank you for responding to my greetings, and even asking how I was. It's comforting to know that some people still have a shred of decency. I apologize to you for any experience that might have caused you anything less then an enjoyable shopping trip at ross.
The rest of you pigs can go to hell.
You. Are. Amazing . Hit everything to the T! How in the hell do we get ahold of corporate? I think they need to see this website. Asap. I wouldn't care if I lost my job over it. I'm not losing anything. These people are a joke. Selfish, bloodsucking fools. Karmas a ###, and it will find its way to the people who f*** our lives over.
YES. I couldn't have said it any better. The only thing I could add to that is don't blame the area supervisors for being mean. We were told to be this way, and it is smiled upon! When I was one, my entire life was miserable. I was constantly tired, angry and on the verge of tears. I would go up to the attic on my breaks and cry. Once a DM came to visit (we had stayed at the store the night before until 4am making it beautiful), the store was looking really awesome. The end caps were so pretty, it looked like they belonged in Macys. Sections were colorized, sized, organized and everything was clean. Stores can get ratings of 1-5, 1 being God-like, 5 being a total pit. It is customary for the DM to ask upon arrival what rating we thought we would get. Without hesitation I said a 2. He said almost nothing during the walk through. At the end, he informed me that this store was a 4, EASILY. Then I had to deal with the rest of the day. Which included a crack head screaming about how our LP sexually assualted her, cops called, customers yelling, books being thrown at me, people stealing stuff, people returning used merchandise... This is pretty much how 25% of my shifts at Ross went.
not a profssional place
Hi, I am a employee at your company. I have had some problems with your assistant manager, at 5932 Roswell Rd in Sandy Springs GA. I have been working in the retail business for 15yrs. And I have never been so degraded and disrespected in my life. She is not professional at all. I complained to my head manager, about the problem, and he said that he will...

I turned in my two week notice 6/21/10. I go into work 6/28/10 because last i checked 6/25/10 I was supposed to work. I go in and the manager said " Your not supposed to be here I took you off the schedule and you need to turn in you name badge and discount card" I did so and the manager told me to leave. I never got a call that he took me off( this isn't the first I've been taken off and not called to let know hats going on). I'm not the first he has done this to and i deff. wont be the last. I have to go in sometime to get my last check stub. I know this is wrong and i know if im told to leave and my two weeks are not up i can get paid for that week because i was supposed to work. Ross really needs to get a hold on there managers because when the workers aren't happy the shoppers wont be happy. If shoppers aren't happy it could be the end to the businesses when something better comes along!

I work for RDL in So Calif. Same here. They are systematically getting rid of tenured and higher paid employees. Then when you go to unemployment hearings (they always deny claims) they have all the nit pikey evidence with no real merit and the EDD agrees, with them!. Yes they missed a highlight and 1 initial. The EDD is the 1% lapdog. The 99% is lost. Any Class Action Lawsuits out there post the on the WEB. Ross Dress for Less NEEDS A UNION! If there is any UNIONs out there, HELP!
awful customer service!
Dress for Less...that's their motto. It should really be Service for LESS! On May 25th, I went to purchase is a clothing item for my daughter. We've always shopped at Ross, but this is definitely be my very last time shopping in the Merced store.
We were waiting in a line of 5 customers. There were 3 registers opened. As soon as my daughter and I got up to the register, the clerk said she was closing and asked me to go to another register. I asked immediately why she waited until I came up? I was the last customer in this line and had been waiting for at least ten minutes. She said her register didn't have any change? What?!
Not wanting to cause a scene, I stepped to the next register. As soon as I got up to the register, the clerk asked if I was paying by cash or credit. I told her cash. Then she said that I had to go back to the same register I was at since she didn't have any cash! "What! No way! The other clerk told me to come over here and now you're telling me to go back!"
So I went back to the first register, and the rude clerk said to me, "Didn't I just tell you that I was closing." I told her that the other clerk didn't have cash. She told me to come back here! The clerk just said, "Well you have to wait because I'm closing." By this time the line of customers had grown to 10! So I just said "FINE! If you don't want my business anymore then that can be easily arranged." I slammed the items on the counter and left! I will never ever go back to this store ever again! I'd rather drive the 30 miles to the next county if I ever by anything from this store again!

everything! from working there to shopping there.
I shopped there and thought it was an alright store so why not apply. Well the store just kept going down hill from there. After years of not working I got the job with ross store number 0222 and thought "wow this will be nice to have a pay check". Boy was I wrong! The first day I worked they didn't train me and the assistant manager nicole told me I wa...

Why don't you just quit jerk !
I love Ross dress for less. We strive to deliver the best customer service. We are also dedicated to the development of our teams.and people. Im sorry if you've had a negative experience. I support my company and have been with Ross for several years. I have worked with several managers at several stores through it all I am appreciative to be a part of such a wonderful company.
I work at Ross it's a mess the main manager talks about people like a dog the other manager a dog to other employees the other manager is on drugs and is like 35 dating a employees now x employee remind u he was with her why she still worked there the lady manager is scary and fake I know a Guy that was the best employees there he got fired off of a code 50 most all of the employees we stick together cuz we know the management is full of it-
I'm trying so hard to get out of there. When I find another job, I'm giving them an "effective immediately" notice. They don't deserve a two week notice. They've been on my butt about nothing. People have done worse things. Now they've been after me. According to them, I don't even do my job good enough. I should be doing more, for what, not for what I make. They are screwed up and I do hope they get sued over their treatment of employees. They treat their employees so bad that if all the employees had a case and they brought it to court, everyone can say bye bye Ross.
