hot food
Ever since they updated and renewed the Safeway in lahaina, the service has been beyond pisspoor quality that you would never expect from a grocery store.
People are literally standing there looking for whoever is supposed to be working at the hot food stand, and its either no one there or the workers are busy doing tasks that can wait till after the customers have been served. Most times in standing there looking for a worker or having to yell out to ask for service
injury, in safeway store, oak harbor washington
I was shopping in the oak harbor safeway, washington state. I was shopping when a woman next to me grabbed a jar of clausen pickles, when she had grabbed the jar, she immediately begun to fumble with said jar. It took off and when I saw the jar coming towards my face, I tried to back up, and at which time I fell back injury in my elbow and my neck ando landed in a pile of pickles and juice and glass.. I ended up in er, had to wear a soft coler I lost 5 days of work, and now your ins. Company sedgwick is denying they need to pay my medical bills or my loss of work days? I have called them so many times. And have had no return calls, so I have called corporate, and still am getting no where. I called sedgwick and talked to amanda molde, @952-942-2616, and she said that your stores do not carry any kind of medical gap? And told me that your company is not responsible? And offered me 250.00 grocery chk. To spend at your market? What a slap in the face of me being a faithful shopper for the last 30 something years. Maybe all your retail stores need to put sigin s, telling your customers when you shop here. Your shopping at your own risk! And we will never care if you are injured here! Thanks safeway for all the pain and suffering I have gone through, and you don't care about the welfare of your customers. Thank you lynne m. Barron injury occurred on aug 15, 2018 around 2:30. very rude customer service
So I recently turned 21 and my I.D. is still vertical as I have not gotten a horizontal I.D. yet. So on my birthday I walked in and asked if they accept vertical I.D. They said they do as long as it is not expired. So then I was able to purchase alcohol for sometime from both local safeways. I gave them my I.D and I purchased alcohol legally. Than today i walked in and I went to an old white lady. She took my I.D. to her other co-workers and came back asking me why my i.d. doesn't say i Wear glasses(which i do wear glasses). I told her i got glasses after a while from the time I got my I.d. my i.d. is about 4 years old and a month from expiring. She said she can't sell to me because she doesn't feel comfortable. I replied asking what was wrong on why I couldn't make my purchase . I was curious, first time getting denied. Than her coworker was listening and yelled to her not to argue with me and tell me she said no. So confused as I was I just left. I wasnt arguing, I didn't raise my voice or threaten her in any way. It didn't make any scene and i was just confused. So I left and went to the other safeway because as I said before I made purchases at both and when they do check my I.d., they usually enter my Birthday into the system and then I'm good. So I went to the other safe way, got my drink and went to check out. As I walked the the check out. i noticed all the employees were staring at me. I just continued and the cashier asked my I'd and she checked it. First she asked if I had another one and i told her no that it was my only one. Than she said it doesn't look like me. It was frustrating.. i realized at this point that the other safeway may have alerted the one I was at about me trying to buy. the cashier called over a security guard and right when he seen my I.d. he immediately said they can't sell because my I.D Isnt Horizontal. I told him I purchased there before. He seemed kinda cocky about it telling me it's The state law and that anybody who sold to me before could lose their job and that he knows because he worked in a liquor store. He was really pushy about it. He talked as if i was dumb for not knowing that and that he knows it all. So i just accepted i couldn't purchase and left. Honestly I am really upset about this. I didn't want that to happen to me as now I feel that they resent me for trying to purchase.like they see me as one of those people who are alcoholics and get mad when they don't sell to them. I wasn't agressive or threatening in any way. I feel threatened from the safeway employees for not selling to me for those reasons, they made me feel like I was a horrible customer and gave me attitude as they talked. like I was less of a person for trying to buy. Like they didnt have any real reason not to sell to me but just found every excuse to deny Me. I feel embarrassed from it.. I just wanted to know the reason why the sudden hatred towards me. I didn't some research and upon that, an article states that the only state law requiring horizontal i.d. is Arizona. New Mexico is not under That Law so the security guard Was obviosly wrong about that. also in the beginning I asked and employee if they do accept vertical I.d. and his responses was yes. I made sure to ask about the vertical i.d. just so that embarrassing moment wouldn't happen. I am upset with what happened. I will make sure to get my horizontal I.d. now but I didn't feel their customer service was appropriate. Thank You
baby product
Apparently you have a policy about returns on baby milk but its not posted on or around any baby products in most of your safeway stores...I went to three different safeways...the one in arlington road, bethesda md...the one on georgia ave nw washington dc store 2808...and the on piney branch nw dc...nothing to inform the consumer they cannot return baby formula nor exchange...I think its false advertisement...and no one can show me in the store where the policy is written or printed...It should be posted above baby milk or customer service...also most of your products are always empty and apparently no one knows when shipments come in. I see why Giant is a competition...better practices and more efficient. Safeway needs to do better...I will never shop at Safeway again...i will encourage everyone to go to Giant...because Safeway is not consumer friendly and I am angry for wasting my time. And hard earned money $80/worth of milk I cannot return or exchange...ridiculous. if something is a federal regulation than it should be posted...this event was so traumatic...I am so upset.

October 11, 2018 6 PM
I took my girlfriend shopping, she is African-American. As soon as we entered the store premises the security guard was following us and he was not discreet about it! Every aisle we were and he was there. Then at check out he was right there watching making sure that my friend paid for every item by the way she was buying over $50 worth of fresh crab. Supplies for a birthday party large birthday party and normal household items that we normally get at Safeway. He approach the checkout girl that was in charge of self service, he whispered in her ear something. And then he Glared at us and kept staring at us so I kept staring back and then at us, he hollered hello very loudly and was very obnoxious ! Then we decided that we were being profiled and( I am Caucasian) . When I spoke to a Sacramento police officer about the situation because he was interested the security guard in question who is very very large and sloppy came up and said hello very loudly very rudely drying attention to us for no reason ! When I asked for his name the officer said he didn't have to give it. I am so concerned about the situation I cannot believe it I want to boycott that Safeway and tell everyone I know not to shop there that was a ridiculous unnecessary and embarrassing situation. By the way we ended up going to another grocery store and spending A lot of money !
complaint about a dog sitting in a shopping cart
On October 9th, while I was shopping at Safeway on Teal Blvd. Beaverton OR, I saw a lady having her dog sitting in the shopping cart. Many customers around were commenting how inappropriate that was. I approached the lady and told her that it is not OK to have her dog sitting in a shopping cart where we put bread and other unpacked groceries. she stated that she was permitted by a store employee to have her "baby" in the shopping cart and continue to walk around the store. I, then, spoke with the store director who assured me that they will find her and take care of it. Unfortunately, the store director did none of it. For the next 10 min. she was in the customer service area talking and laughing with other employees. When I approached her again and asked her why she is not addressing the matter, her answer was " Oh, we will. Maybe this is a service dog." I explained to her that I am an RN, Health Services Director and I am very well aware what service dogs are allowed and sitting in a shopping cart is not one of the privileges. I asked her for her name and store info which she wrote down for me just to find out later that she gave me a number ( 1877)of a store in Colorado not the number (2631) on 14555 SW Teal Blvd, Beaverton OR. At this point I am not sure the name she wrote down belongs to her. Not really a smart decision on her part since the store number is written on top of the receipt and she single handed wrote and gave me a wrong information.
I will call and write to the Corporate office not because I want to cause problems for her but because I don't want, every time I go my groceries, to think whether a dog feet and behind has been in the cart I use. I love dogs, but I also am aware about infection control and spread of infectious diseases. Recently, there was a study with stunning microbiology results of enormous bacteria growth from dogs paws.
As I mentioned, I am a Health Services Director to a Retirement Community in close to Safeway on Tel Bvd. and for years have been working with the pharmacy providing flu shots for our residents ( 70-100 shots) which we will no longer do.
I hope somebody will follow up on this complaint.

store closed earlier than posted hours
This store at 5727 Burke Center Pkwy Burke, VA 22015 is located near my home so I often go after 10 but my few visit has been disappointed. I went to late night shopping around 11:30 pm but it was disappointing to see store was closed. Although hour posted is 5 am to 12 am this store closed earlier. It has happen in my recent visit earlier too. I would like to know reason behind earlier closing. It is frustrating to know that you go to store and find out it is closed. Please look on this matter.
produce area
Today, I visited the Safeway in Falcon, CO. I was excited to see that you had star fruit until I realized they were all rotting and moldy. I looked closer at more of your produce and found brown mini bananas, rotten guavas, and more.
I was very disappointed by the amount of rotten fruit in your store. Mainly, the bad fruit we're mostly ‘tropical', but there was also some other items such as apples and squash that I would not purchase.
Thank you for your time. I hope to see some improvement soon at this facility.
marissa, the proud store director
I visited my local Safeway store 091 just about 4pm on Wednesday, October 10th. They were quite busy, and, after waiting in line for a bit, I overheard someone say they were only taking checks and cash as the system was down. I only had debit, so I set my things aside and went to leave. I saw Marissa on my way out and said they may want to make an announcement about the outage (as they had called all clerks to the front because they were so busy and each stand opened had at least four people in line). She very sarcastically replied with a super fake smile that this was a good idea, rolled her eyes and continued on. Not used to anything but awesome service at this store (bar the deli) I followed and asked her name. I asked three times before She replied, It's Marissa. And I'M the store director (I guess to prevent me from asking to talk to her boss?) and then continued on. I told her I found her remark to be extremely sarcastic. She said no, it wasn't sarcastic. I just got off the phone with IT (though I'm not sure what that has to do with her being rude...). I again said she had been rude and she again said what she had been doing before I spoke to her.
I know this reply isn't going to go anywhere...maybe it will even be automatically redirected to Marissa herself, if she didn't lie about her position, (I live two blocks away and frequent this store often...I've never seen her before though. Chris is the PIC usually there when I'm around and he is awesome! As is the lady there early in the morning, though I don't recall her name). We all know she 1. Shouldn't be sarcastic with customers 2. Should never roll her eyes at same and 3. If a customer tells her she feels she was rude, she should apologize for making them feel that way (which is never sincere but this is what we do in retail). I realize Marissa was stressed. I also worked in retail for over ten years and would NEVER have spoken to a customer that way, nor used my position to try and intimidate (for lack of a better word) a customer who I was just rude to. Computers are great until they stop working...people understand this. Luckily, there's another store two blocks away, which is where I continued my shopping.
I hope this makes it to her file so that when others complain about her rudeness you see a pattern. Additionally, I hope the compliment to Chris gets in there (though now I'm doubting my memory about his name) because he is always helpful and friendly to everyone I see him interact with. Which, frankly, is what I've come to expect in this store, which made the nastiness by Marissa even more upsetting.
gas
This gas station has 12 pumps and out of all of them has maybe 6 or 7 working! This is ridiuculous. I had to wait 20 minutes to get gas! Monterey and Tennant is the location! How is this even possible. There were barely 10 cars here and none of the spaces were available. They all have cones in front of them. What an inconvenience to customers. Then a guy asked and employee just said they are broken. What are the odds s that they are all broken
service
I went to the Safeway in Kailua, Hawaii at 1060 Keolu Dr., the Enchanted Lake location at 11:49 pm. Half of the store was blocked off so they could have the floors mopped early.
I was in pain so I took an Uber to the grocery store and it cost me $10 and I couldn't get to the aisle because half of the store was blocked off.
I talked to the manager and explained to him the situation and he didn't seem to care that a customer came to the store while it was still open and was trying to purchase medicine because I was in pain w/ a urinary tract infection.
He told me to just go to another store. I then told him that I don't have a lot of money and it's going to cost me an additional $10 to take another Uber to another store, and he could care less.
The floors were getting mopped and I understand he didn't want to risk anyone slipping but why block off half of the store while it's still open, especially the aisles with medication.
I need to be reimbursed half of my Uber bill for the unwarranted inconvenience that you're store caused me. My name is Leanne Thomas and my phone # is [protected] and email is [protected]@gmail.com.
delicatessen
I have never before submitted a complaint, but felt compelled to do so now.
About 45 minutes ago I purchased an Express Meal at the deli in your Cheney, WA location. I ordered a Chinese meal.
When the server placed the Mongolian beef in the tray, I was quite surprised at how little he actually put in the tray. I didn't say anything to him (like, "is that ALL you get with the meal?, " or "Really?"). When I returned to my office, I was even more aghast as to the miniscule amount of actual protein was in the tray. Not only was the meal NOT a good value, but it certainly did not reflect well on the store or the deli operation.
I am not a big eater and I adhere to personal portion control, but I was disappointed in my experience today. I wanted to share my thoughts and perception.
Thank you.

milk
I work for a company that will match every dollar for dollar donated for a cause! Will Safeway also be doing this on top of the forced donation of 10 cents per litre you have imposed on your loyal customers or are you happy to sit back thinking you are doing a good thing! Seriously, put your money where your mouth is and stop treating us like fools!

Safeway, Poulsbo, Washington.
I have been in the store many times in the past year in the morning between 9 and 11 am. I have been getting more irritated each time. I have a full cart and am spending $150 to $200 and have to wait in a long line to check out. Because 1 out of 4 checkers in at a regular register. 1 is at self checkout. 1 is at 15 item and 1 is at the customer service counter selling cigarettes. Then the manger is floating around just talking to the checkers that are free. You have self checkout machines and a checker why do you need 15 items or less open. I have had to wait 30 min to pay and the other lanes are doing nothing. In the past year I have had a checker toss freezer food 4 times at the register because it was thawed and dripping.
manager email mosley
Today, October 7, 2018:
As a regular customer at the Brandywine Maryland Safeway I shop on average once a week or more, today I had the worst experience of my life at any grocery store chain I have ever spent my hard earned money at. I am on food stamps and went to the store today (with my 3 year old daughter) specifically to purchase lunchables for her school lunch. Of course we also grabbed a few extra items. I wen to check out and tried to pay with the aforementioned food stamps/EBT card. The cashier was very polite and confused when the system said my card was processing for an unusually long time. He checked it because my total was more than was on the card. I had $38.84 on the card (the print out from the system confirmed my card had this amount). My total was $40.73. After running the card a second time because it "didn't go through" he got a manager. My daughter and I we're taken to customer service and the manager lady ran my card 2 more times this time the print out said insuffucient funds. Obviously, this was because the $ was removed from my card during the first 2 transactions. I was then told my card had no money on it and I would need to pay for the groceries another way. Cash or card. I paid cash for $40.73. I knew my money was taken and went straight to my vehicle and called the EBT customer service to check my last 10 transactions. Sure enough the money was accepted by Safeway. Why the system was not showing I paid is beyond me. The EBT rep volunteered to stay on the line while I went back in and spoke to a manager so she could verify to said manager that they indeed had taken my money then made me pay cash for the same groceries I had already paid for. The manager Emil Mosely refused to touch my phone or talk to the EBT rep because "he had no idea who was actually on the phone." Another female manager came out of the office and was explained the whole situation and both were not only rude to me, but accused me of faking the phone call to get free money from them. I was made to call the EBT customer service line on a Safeway land line. I explained the situation to the new EBT rep on this call and the whole time Mr. Mosely made obnoxious sounds and rolled his eyes. He confirmed that my transaction has indeed gone through and I was correct. I was refunded the money Safeway had basically stolen from me. He gave an extremely insincere apology and I explained that I am a regular customer. My child knows many employees on a first name basis. I have never been treated so unkindly and as a suspect of thievery. It is absolutely crazy that a store manager is allowed to demean and humiliate his customers in this way.
meat product... beef ribs
I bought beef ribs at safeway in winnipeg, mb (mcphillips and jefferson location) on october 5th. Best before date on the package was oct 13th. Took Them home and put straight into the fridge. Opened them up next day and both smelled very badly. Obviously they were going bad. Drove 30 minutes back to winnipeg to return the meat. Customer service rep said she could smell them right away. My money was returned. When i asked how this could happen she said ... Vacuum packing meat is a gamgle if it will be good or not! I suggested the word gamble is not acceptable when it comes to meat and consumer health.
I would like someone to contact me to tell me how this could happen. What safeguards are in place to ensure unsafe meet doesnt reach the store. I am a long standing customer of safeway but i am not sure if i want to shop there anymore with the "gamble" attitude to consumer health.
Imlook forward to hearing from someone on thus matter!
checker service
Dear Safeway: I wish to file a formal complaint against Denise who works at the Safeway store on 950 W. Hamilton Ave. in Campbell, CA. The incident I will describe occurred on the evening of 10/2/2018.
Denise wrongfully accused me at self check out of removing a 50% off sticker coupon from a specially marked clearance item and attempting to use it on a non clearance item. I told her she was wrong. Then showed her my purchases and receipt as proof, a container of cat food which included a red clearance sticker, a bottle of Welch's grape juice club priced 50% off, and a can of Rockstar energy drink club priced at $2.00. The red 50% off sticker was used one time and one time only. Denise's response to me was "this conversation is over". She then added from now on I will be "watching you".
Sirs/Mams, I do not appreciate being falsely accused of being a chief or thief. For almost 20 years I have shopped at various Safeway stores and I have never committed or been suspected of any kind of wrongdoing. Denise's bogus claims are a challenge to my character which is something I take very seriously.
Because of her conduct I will no longer shop at the Safeway store on Hamilton Ave. I will also consider sharing my experience with other customers on social media.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
Christopher Billings

never received any help at the seafood counter
Today (10/4/208) at approximately 12:30pm, I went to safeway's (2845 alabama ave se, washington, dc 20020) seafood counter for crab legs. There were four people behind the seafood counter not one of them took a moment to acknowledge me, the customer. One gentleman was preparing the seafood, looked at me twice and never said anything. There were two women who were clearly part of management and food safety inspectors because they put a thermometer in the seafood salad and another gentleman who came from the back. That last gentleman said something to the women about the display and he went back to the back. None of those people bothered to say "one moment. We're a little busy." nothing. I clearly saw that things were going on and I would have been ok to wait a few more minutes for service. This never happens to me in whole foods or wegmans. This is why I am no longer a regular customer!
my sandwich
So my wife picked me up a sandwich from safeway in moses Lake, WA 98837 deli section so I could have lunch at work. I sat down to eat my sandwich at lunch, 4 hours after purchase. When opening the container I had on thin slice of turkey meat on each side of the sandwich and two small pieces of cheese and a huge piece of lettuce. Cheese was a little discolored which didn't bother me too much. Having a thin slice of meat is what made me type this as my food sits in front of me. I expected to have a nice sandwich for lunch and instead I paid $5.00 of my hard earned money for a tiny slice of meat covered with lettuce. As I pick up my sandwich the back half of the bread is hard as a rock so that will be torn off and not eaten. Seems there needs to be some training done on how to make a turkey sandwich. I was not expecting a stale bread and lettuce sandwich which is still in front of me as I am typing this.

Minding my own business
A man walks passed me in the isle and turns to say "girl you lookin" mighty tasty, mind if gets me summa dat?"
I didn't say anything
I kept walking toward the front the store
then he yells "b***h needa learn how to take a damn compliment"
I decided I didn't need the ice tea or the string cheese and set them on a shelf as I walked by the security guard who apparently gets paid to just stand there and do nothing ...
It's bad enough that we, as women, have to put up with men like one who thought he was handing out complements
But it bothered me more that not one of the 5 or 6 other people in the store who witnessed and/or heard it happen, said a word.
How hard would it have been for someone to say "leave the lady alone" or for the security guard to say "If you're going to harass the customers I'm gonna have to ask you to leave"
I really hate that I can't go outside or even to the grocery store after dark without expecting to be harrassed.
Anyway, I know this Safeway is already known for problems I just thought I say something so you won't be expecting that security guard to protect you or even attempt to make you feel safe while you're shopping...I assume he is there to protect products not customers
