Crooks
I have been overcharged by amerigas for the last time. They bought out Spensor brother's propane in Richmond, VA and since my rates have gone up 50%. They are a bunch of crooks. If you call to get a price per gallon at the richmond local office they can not even give you an answer because they have over charged so many people they can't keep their lies straight. every other propane company i called gave me a very easy and direct answer $2.65 and $2.50 per gallon. Amerigas just charged me $4 per gallon. They run a very shadey and crooked business. Buyer beware and stay away from amerigas.
Poor Business Model
I ordered up Amerigas when they met the competition's pricing and offered me 100.00 off my second delivery. Seems like a pretty good deal.
I call up today to order my second delivery and get tell them I have the 100.00 coupon (as required) and I get quoted 2.39 a gallon. I told lady that seemed high as I was standing in teh MFA store the other day when they quoted 1.89 a gallon. She babbled a little more about seasonal pricing... blahh.. blah... blah.
I called up two competitors and their sister store in another town after hanging up. MFA was quoting 1.89/gal, the local supplier was quoting 1.99/gallon... and the Amerigas in another town quoted me 2.09/gallon. Immediately after she quoted me 2.39/gal... that is a 30% premium. That is wrong.
So all Amerigas did was add the coupon value to the price to make it a wash for them...
That irritated me... so I cancelled the order. When this tank runs dry, they can come get it... I'll be going with MFA in the future.
How do you run a company of this size with that kind of screwjob going on? The good news for them is most of us aren't paying that much attention most of the time. If we were paying attention... they'd be out of business

No inspection no sale of propane
Why won't amerigas sell propane without an inspection? i have lived at this site in excess of 25 years without a propane incident, no leaks, fires or problems of any kind except with suppliers yet they insist on rummaging through my home and shop checking my appliances, tank, heaters, pipes and who knows what else.they sent a service truck and 2 men to do this inspection. i got the feeling they would have offered to do any "repairs" they discovered i needed, for a fee of course. i guess they are the self appointed propane police. this is one $500 sale they missed.

Will not refund $350!
First, took 3 weeks to get thru! On Jan 5 I prepaid for 25 gallons of propane. The tank only took 14.3 gallons, so I was due a credit of about $50. On Jan 9, Amerigas charged my account another $300. Local office cannot explain why I was charged this amount and put in for a refund. I was told it would be 7-10 days, and it is now Feb 2 and the refund hasn't even been processed! Bottom line, Amerigas took money from my bank account and won't return it. If anyone has a national phone number, please share. Cannot find it on wwebsite.
Just wondering if you got your issue resolved. I have been trying since Dec.2010!

Took our money two weeks ago and has not delievered our gas. We are now almost out of fuel
We prepaid for our fuel two weeks ago and were told that Amerigas would be out within seven days. On the seventh day, the driver refused to come up our drive way due to some ice. We salted our driveway and they said they would be out the next day. No one showed. They put us back on the list and would come out to fill out tank in another seven days. No one showed up. We are now down to 4% fuel and have two children under the age of seven. We contacted several people at the home office, all of which were rude and inconsiderate. We asked to have our money refunded, since we paid cash, but they told us that would not happen for four weeks. Evidentally, everyone is having this issue, because they were just brought up for these issues on NBC 4 for a young lady who hasn't had heat for two weeks. This was the worse customer service I have ever encountered. Poor management skills and need trained in conflict resolution, because they suck at it. My seven year old is more intelligent.

Dont tell me something that isnt true!
The story begins late last week.. I called to get a refill on my fuel.. I was told my acct was disconnected and I owed a 60 dollar disconnect fee. After sitting on the phone with a cust service rep and a senior rep I was informed my account was accidently taken off the system instead of my neighbor who indeed cancelled her amerigas and went with Corrigan.. they told me they couldnt do the fuel order until this acct was situated. So I waited.. then yesterday I get a call stating they could do my fuel order and deliver same day.. I called back and was told once again to call back tomorrow(that would be today) and they could do a delivery. I talked to a rep and was told there is no way a delivery could be scheduled today.. and the rep lied to me.. her exact words.. he lied to me lol.. I was told to pay them 450 dollars oh and a 200 next day delivery fee if i wanted them to come tomorrow.. even though they promised me they would fix this. How is it my fault and why should I pay that 200 dollars? Now I know why my neighbor went with Corrigan.. so now I am back to where I started. a tank at 5-10 percent and a winter storm coming.. fantastic ..

Fails to deliver
I have been an amerigas customer for 7 years. the last 2 years has been real frustrating. i called for delivery on tuesday morning and was told i would be garranteed delivery within 48 hours if i paid an additional fee.. well its friday morning, 72 hours later and no gas! I called again and was told by the lady that " she understood what a garrantee was" but there is a "state of emergency due to snow". what? we have 5 inches but the roads are clear and i have a path to my tanks! the only "state of emergency" is my family trying to stay warm! Thanks for knowing the meaning of garrantee amerigas!

unethical billing
As usual amerigas has failed to deliver anything except a charge for an empty tank...and also a 35 dollar monthly interest charge if not paid...I tried repeatly to contact customer service I think I got that guy in the Igloo up north...no use customer service...I asked for return call waited like a fool never got return call go figure...some have nerve to put anything related to America in their name...I guess when they come to retreive tanks I will get to talk with the persons...by the way I sold all my stock in what I thought was a promising venture...Joes bottled gas is great at least they will return calls..
I live in the County near you and I thoroughly agree I guess these a>>> think they are the only game in town...I cannot even get them to return a customer request call...but they can sure charge me a 35 dollar interest on an empty tank they haven't filled...I guess 99 dollars and 35 dollars = good service...if I don't pay soon it will be another 35 dollars...I plan to pay because I pay my bills whether I feel screwed or not...very upset
Amerigas Customer,
I was ripped off by Amerigas, as well. I had to pay them to pick up an empty tank that never functioned properly. They should have paid me for keeping it.

Poor service
We have been using Amerigas for the past 10 yrs and I have to call their billing (local) dept each time they fill the tank.
The clincher was in Sept. 2010. Amerigas filled the tank with 171 gallons in March and then claimed we used 172 gallons during the summer. We use propane for heat only. In case no one realizes it, Tucson temperatures are very warm starting in early Apri until November.
When I called they claimed the numbers were transposed. I still can't figure that one out. In September I requested we call for delivery.
Last week they delivered 85 gallons, without notice. They claim the commputer scheduled FORCAST, meaning automatic yet their bill shows differently.
I hope Amerigas is laughing as loud as I am, because I called to have the fuel removed and I am going with another company.
Worst Customer Service of All Time
I had an inquiry about a bill I had received from Amerigas. The amount is for $135.60. Earlier, I had received a bill for a tank rental. Usually I call the store and schedule a fill up and they remove the tank rental. The lady said she would take care of it and schedule a fill up within the next few days. That is indeed what happened. I received a bill for the gas and went by the store on 12/29/2010 to make the payment. I paid with a check (#5866). This check has not cleared my account and I wanted to know why since I dropped it off personally at the local store. I thought everything was square with us until I received this other bill in the mail for $135.60. I went by the store today (Garner, NC) during my lunch hour to inquire about the bill.
I cannot explain how rudely I was treated. You can certainly take loyal and dedicated local employees off the list of "unique benefits" that Amerigas claims to offer. I got out of my vehicle and went to the door at 12:40 and discovered the door was locked. There was a sign posted displaying business hours were from 8:00am to 5:00pm. Under that was posted closed. Also, posted beside that was a piece of green construction paper saying closed for lunch from 12:00-1:00. I looked in the window and saw a woman sitting at the counter. I tapped on the glass door, and she made hand motions to me with a "1" as if to say we are closed and I'm not opening up the door or accepting customers. I went back to my truck, drove down the street and stopped at a local restaurant for some lunch. I thought I would get a quick bite and then go back. I arrived back at the store at 1:20. Again, I got out of the truck and went to the door. It is still locked and showing closed on the little sign. The same woman and two others are in the store. Again, I tapped on the window. This time she wheeled around and made annoyed hand gestures again to me with a total disgusted look as if to say I have told you once that we are closed and you need to get out of here until I am ready to open this door back up. I pointed to my watch and the green sign as if to say it is past 1:00. She then pointed above the door to another little paper clock with movable hands that looked like it was pointing to 1:30. She turned away to talk to the other women and then would not even acknowledge my presence. I have never been treated so rudely. I don't know what kind of business is being run here, but every business that I have ever been associated with have their employees take staggered lunches and the business is covered for customer service during the whole day's operation. There is no call for this.
After this, I dialed your customer service number and made a complaint. The person taking my call stated they would forward my complaint to the manager and I asked that he call me. I left my cell number [protected]. I would like for someone to call me so that my bill can be settled. I feel I have made a good faith attempt to handle this. I certainly do not expect to have to endure this type of poor customer service from any other Amerigas employees.
Today is January, 21, 2011. This episode occurred on January 10, 2011. My check for the gas I purchased has finally cleared my checking account on January 12, 2011 in which I paid in person on December 29, 2010. At this point, no one from management has even bothered to call me about this or clear my account.

No gas delivery after several calls!!!
I have been with Amerigas for 8 years or longer. For the last 2 years I have had a terrible time gettting my tank filled up. This is the only heat I have, I have MS and cannot be left without heat and also have children to worry about. I have tried for 3 weeks to get a delivery. My road is clear of snow. When I call I get music and noone ever answers or a answering machine. I have left several messages..no call backs. I called the corporate office and they faxed the local office yesterday still no gas so I called back today the lady told me they should have called me back within 2 hours of receiving the fax ha ha. She faxed them again today and said I would receive a call today guess what no call and still no gas and the gauge past 10. Temps below 20 I sent the kids to their grandparents in case we loose heat.

No delivery
What is going on with your company? Seems many propane companies in the grand traverse area know about Amerigas. They seem to be getting some of your business. I wonder why that is? We sent a check it was cashed on Jan.6th we are at 10% Ihave never seen such poor service ! Maybe if its to busy you need to get out of the business! Thanks for reading my complaint. I feel Amerigas needs to step up to the plate and better their customer service. we called customer service but got no satisfaction they can, t tell you anything.

USING MY MONEY
With a prepaid account, AmeriGas did not fill our tank. This started on 1/10/11. Was told by one lady that we should pay a plumber to drain our radiant heating system so it would not freeze. Gar was delivered that night at 11:30. The driver was very nice and made sure our industrial boiler was working. Contacted the local office, left messages for the manager to call me back. He did the next day the 12th, explained the situation and informed him that we are afraid since we were without gas for over a day that the boiler igniter may be damaged. It is not the 18th and he has not called me back. Cannot recommend them to anyone!

Billed without permission
In 2009, I bought a used propane tank from Amerigas because i was being over-charged for gas by the current LP tank provider and I wanted the choice to buy from a LP gas provider of my choice and with the lowest price. I DID NOT sign a contract of any kind with Amerigas. In 2010, I filled my LP tank using another company. The tank was at 78% when Amerigas truck came unsolicited, squeezed in 7.8 gals. and billed me for $928 dollars (obvious meter error). I called, faxed, local office and was told to ignore the bill. Bills keep coming. Called corporate, bills keep coming. So far, not reported to credit companies. Checked the local BBB in Charlotte, NC and found out that the local Amerigas office has an F rating. Not surprised.

Refusal to Cancel Account/Unrequested Delivery
Since being informed that our yearly rate was jumping more than double what we paid in 2009, we paid up our account and informed them that we were closing the account. Multiple letters have been sent to this company including a recent one that was sent registered mail - we have yet to receive notification from the postal service that it was accepted. Each month we receive a new bill with additional late fees tacked on and when we have tried to talk with them we are told that they can do nothing locally but they will not connect us to anyone that can. Why can you not close an account with this business? We do not have any contractual obligations to them, nor have we ever signed anything with them.
Today, 11/17/2010 was the final straw. My wife returned home to find that Amerigas had made a delivery (the first attempt since May) of 121 gallons of propane and left us a bill for just under $1000. Normally I keep a vehicle parked over the inground propane tank but did not pull up far enough this time so the driver was able to access the tank. We have now placed a call with them to come back and withdraw the 121 gallons by 3:00 pm today as we did not authorize the delivery nor do we wish to do any further business with them.

billing
I have been a customer of Amerigas for 18 years. Their attitude towards customers has changed in the last 2 years. I made a payment to Amerigas 11/2/2020, it was 26 days late. They received my payment 11/3/2010. I received a letter from a collection agency Dated 11/5/2010 on 11/13/2010. When I called they we dont have a problem it was a mistake. 18 years!, by by.

Terrible customer service
I have been trying to get gas for almost 6 weeks now. The first two weeks I called our local office and was told they would put my name on the list. Week three, still no gas. I then decided to call the National customer care line. They explained that they were transitioning to a new computer program and they would call the local office. Week 4, no gas, no phone call, nothing. Week 5, I again call the National number (because they record calls and I wanted a record of my repeated requests), they finally get the local office to call me back. Now the excuse is I "fell off" the EZ pay program in August 2009 because we "hadn't been paying enough". Well I found this hard to believe since I had gas delivered twice last season without a hitch. In addition, we had purchased a gas fireplace and tankless water heater that we financed through them. We had been paying every month on our account. So they were supposed to resubmit our request to the corporate credit office (this was Wed 11/3) The local office assured me she would work on this and call me back. It is now a week later Wednesday, and no call, still no gas, nothing. TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE.

Lies, cheats and steals
I have had Amerigas since Level was purchased about 6 years now. Every year I have to call the and talk the down on the price per gallon for pre-buy. this year I called a couple other places and got $1.85- 1.90 a gal. I told the $2.90 was too high. They gave me the run around and called back the next day with a $2.15/9 gal price. I buy 1000 gal each year so you do the math. They stated that i would have till Friday to make my decision on locking in at that. Friday came and I saw a delivery notice on my door, they filled the tank at 2.90 a gallon. I called them and they acted like they did not know anything about it?Then Asked if I would like to lock in at 2.15 to for the pre-buy. I had to take it due to their costs to remove their own tank and pump it out. Next year I am locking the tank in the spring and telling them to come get it. What a crappy way to do business, STAY AWAY FROM THEM!

Customer Service
For two years they have destroyed my property upon delivery and left the caps off. When I called to ask the price of an existing tank-they quoted me a new price rather than a price that was depreciated. The local manager, Irvin is an idiot.

Wow...l I read the rest of the complaints and YES I do know how that all feels, I live in a area there is only TWO(2) companies that supply Propane, I had a bill with them and was paying on it, Need Propane and called to my local office about getting propane, They was willing to work with me then took my LAST money that I had for the month and said would deliver my propane, less than 4hrs later call me back and tell me they cant that do to CORRPERT Office they can not help me but If I like they could deliver propane for another 300.00 dollars, KNOWNING I didnt have that money... also telling me they couldnt keep the deal they made with me... but put in the records they called me the next day, I am finding the company LIES and has no moral valuse for WHO is really paying the pay checks for these OFFICE Personal and Managers.. hello Wake up Amerigas, With out customers YOU HAVE NO JOB! In these times of hard times companies should know people are not having a extra 300.00 laying around, Why is it they act like us customers DONT matter? here is a number You can call and file complaints in person and have someone call you back...[protected] that is a Customer Care and Compaint department!
Good Luck all the rest of us Rual Americans needing Propane!
It can take more than 14 days for a paid account to receive delivery of feul from an office that is within a six mile radius of customer's home. Could it be that they're waiting for said check to clear? Fuel truck travels by my home, on the main thoroughfare, at least once a week making deliveries. My family has been a customer for more than 30 years. " Emergency delivery" can be had for a mere $125.
The Fall of 2013 I will change companies. This company does not value its customers.
