Unprofessionalism
I have applied for and been chosen as "one of three" candidates for a position within the company. That was over a month ago and when I try to call the manager, all I get is voice mail. According to the Norfolk office as of two weeks ago, the position still had not been filled. I expected more professionalism from a nationally known organization such as this one. I've tried to call the district manager many times. If I am not awarded the position, the professional thing to do is to notify me in writing. Meanwhile, I wait with expectation. This ethic is very unbecoming of a corporation. It makes me wonder if this is the organizational culture throughout the business and this is the normal treatment for all their employees.

Worst Company I have ever worked for.....
This is the worst company I have worked for in my whole life. We have gone through so many Managers in the past 10 yrs. it's not funny. Still to this day, it's out of control, even for an experienced Manager. The CRR's are on a new computer system & they have no idea what they're doing. They may sound convincing to let you know but not. They talk about your...

It has taken Amerigas 2 years to install my new propane system. They sent unlicensed workers who did not install up to code. The local building inspector was so horrified at the work, he called in the state inspector. The Amerigas manager advised the inspectors it was not Amerigas's obligation to insure compliance with the codes. The state licensing inspector questioned the managers competency right in front of me. He promised to have it fixed, which he did not follow through on. It is also worth noting I was billed for the unlicensed workers time in going back and forth to get parts, installing of pipe that was not up to code, and propane that was never delivered. They also knocked over a stone wall.

Propane Gas Crooks
Beware of AMERIGAS! They will rip you off. Early winter they filled my tank and charged me $5.03 per gallon. I complained and they dropped to $2.60 per gallon. They Just did a refill which I did not ask for and charged $5.23 PER GALLON. I called two other companies and the price was $2.44. I told them to come get the tank and cut me a check for the gas and they will not even come and get the tank. WATCH OUT FOR YOUR POCKET BOOKS! AMERIGAS is out to rob you! They will not answer the phone and they have the door locked at the office! Wow they really value their customers in Kinston North Carolina.
That's cheap! Try over $5 a gallon in Michigan.
I also live in North Carolina and agree Amerigas should be avoided. I was just charged 4.21/gal...and competitors are selling gas for 2.19/gal! I also called Amerigas pretending to be a future customer and they said I can lock in the price of 2.19 right now! Crooks. This is completely criminal behavior! We need a class action Suit! (March, 2015)
Amerigas bought out essentially all of the competitors in Michigan and the price you quoted is essentially what they charge there, about twice what it was with the other propane suppliers. I am certain that they got fed money to pull that stunt. You can't sell a house fired by propane there. In rural areas, natural gas heated houses literally fly off the shelf. Propane fueled ones go for a pittance if they sell at all..
Socialism requires that no competition in the market place exists.. An American would have to go to Europe to see what I mean and how it affects pricing. Just think of the US before K Mart opened up.
Never EVER! vote for a Washington incumbent - I don't care what party. They are for all intents and purposes, all in on it. Don't believe a thing they say..
Unfair business practices
My husband has been a customer in good standing of Amerigas for around 25 years. We were on a budget plan. They change the contract yearly. We were underestimated on the amount of gas we would use, from the previous year use. We ended up owing Amerigas approx. $600.00 at the end of our contract year. My husband has been layed off and I am working at a fast food restaurant for minimum wage. Now they took us of their budget program and will not deliver any more gas until the bill is payed in full and we have proof that we can pay for the next fill. They will not put us back on their buget plan and we have no extra funds for such a big bill. We are currently down to 12% in our tank, and no other company will service our home because of the problems with Amerigas. Amerigas has us strapped. On top of it all, if we do not have a fill, we will be charged $100.00 for a safety check when our tank becomes empty. All we are asking is that we are put back on the budget plan, so that we can pay our bill and recieve a fill of propane. They also do hold our payment so that they would be overdue and then can charge us "over-due" charges. They even change their due date so that even if you pay on time, your payment is late.
Luckily we have been having very mild weather in Michigan. We are currently heating our house with 2 portable electric heaters. What are we going to do when we run out? My stove is LP and so is our hot water tank. I have 2 grandchildren staying with me too. I can only imagine the problems when they begin to go to school hungry and dirty.
I think that this is another situation where corporate america is hurting the working class. Does it really hurt them to allow us back on their budget plan? We are trying to pay the bill by borrowing the money, but you can only borrow so much. I think Amerigas is as bad as the banks that took advantage of this economic depression we are in. Thanks a lot Amerigas! I hope your CEO's have a warm house to live in, hot water to take a shower with, and a stove to cook their food with.

This branch needs to be closed because it is terrible
I had a cash only account with this company so gas was paid for before it was placed in tank but we were charged for gas again because money was accounted to wrong account then after several calls we were still charged a late fee then to top it all off we had the bank to give us a copy of cleared check with their stamp and now the office can not find letter we left with them to clear account.. One lady admits that we did give them letter but now we must fax another copy before account is cleared because no one can find letter. It is sad that we must provide so much extra information when they see they have made a mistake. Awful customer service, this branch needs to be closed because it is terrible. I must admit I did not talk with the manager.
Ameri Gas in Rapid City still doesn't have worker to fill bottles in RC. It has been a year and I talked to CEO and he said they were working on filling job, but so far NO NEW WORKER. I hope they treat customers in field better than than do in town. Every since this Company took over, service has gone down hill 110%. Profit is more important than service. Without service you have NO PROFIT PEOPLE. What a company
Leak Check Charge
Our gas tank, which we use for our fireplace went empty while we were using it. Flames went out. Pilot went out. Empty gas tank. Meter on the gas tank reads empty. Pretty straight forward - we ran out of gas. Right? No...Amerigas wants to charge me a "$97 gas system leak check" before they will fill the tank again.!! We were NOT allowed to decline the...

I am on the budget and have been battling over my bill since July. I keep getting past due notices in the mail but when I call, they tell my I am current and have a credit. I got a bill for $193.00 dated 11/30/2011. My credit was $158.39.
I then got a bill dated 12/08/2011 thatr says I AM PAST DUE $112.00! How can that be? I have spent numerous hours on the phone on hold and then numerous hours trying to figure this out. I have been on hold for over an hour now and STILL NO SERVICE REP! If I could change gas companies, you bet I would! I have been a customer for quite a few years and NEVER HAD THIS TROUBLE!

They practice predatory billing - thye local office quotes one price and the Pittsburg office sends a past due for the difference up to the maximum priced. Then they smile and say, "oh gosh...a mistake - we'll fix it!" grin, smirk, giggle...
This is not the kind of company I want to do business with
I would give Amerigas zero stars if I could. This company is a Rip-off. I paid $3.50 a gal. in the summer when other propane companys were charging $1.87 a gal. They also hit you with 3 other charges each month. $8.00 here 6.75 there and 7.50 there. When you cancel your service they want to charge you $60.00 to come pick up there tank and $75.00 to empty it. Stay FAR away for this outfit. Amerigas just had a 11 Million judgment against them for shorting propane tanks that you buy at your local gas stations. This is NOT the kind of company I want to do business with...
Short amount of gas in refill exchange
On this date I took a propane tank to a local filling station to get refilled. When I asked why the exchange tank only lasted one month, Iwas told the tank only took 3 gallon this time and had 2 gallons left. I was told the Amerigas company uder filled the tank which was an exchangeat the time...Call me a skeptic but this is unfair to the public to think anew exchange tank is automatically full...
Unfair Employment Practices
Amerigas is a Very destructive place to work.. they use physiological tricks against their employees to keep them in line. They make up so many different policies, that change all the time, that they use against their employees, to keep them in line, because its impossible to keep up with.. They encourage employees to OUTRIGHT Lie to customers and Rip them off. They'll say anything to placate the customer, but no intention to address and the resolve the needs of the customer.. This is the WORST MORALLY CHALLENGED COMPANY Ive ever worked for. ENRON is Child's Play compared to this company. I wish the Federal Government would Investigate it. They LAUGH at their Customers.. They Boast when a customer leaves service, they will come back, because Amerigas will acquisition the propane company they switched to! They Are the Most NON RESPONSE, UNRELIABLE, UNSAFE company there is.. AND I AM GLAD I DONT HAVE TO MAKE ANY MORE EXCUSES FOR THEM. They say they care about the customer, Their policies Indicate they Clearly Don't! They have such high turnaround, and they try to hide people they walk out the door the back way, because it is Such a COMMON occurance there! They actually kept me in the HR office until I signed their
termination paper, and would not let me go anywhere till I did. They would not let me go back to my desk and gather my belongings, but made the supervisor go get them. and would not let me leave on my accord, but I had to follow the hr person out the back way in order to leave when they wanted.
I was district manager for Amerigas Propane and it is not only the customers they cheat. During the integration of Amerigas and Heritage propane companies. Employees were promised a fair and impartial review process to keep their jobs in areas where districts from both companies were blended. This absolutely did not happen. Further in my case the company at this time owes back wages to me of over 17000.00. for running multiple districts and other departments for them. They promised these wages would be paid at the end of the year this was just a lye Amerigas had no intention of paying they seem to get off on stealing wages from employees. I am in the process of filing a suit for my wages as well as retaliation from the company. I hope All former Amerigas employees who have been cheated as I have can get together and file a class action case against these crooks. At the very least you are correct these individuals are by law committing criminal acts and should be investigated by the US government they steal from customers and employees alike and need to be called to account for this. And for those of you working for Amerigas monitoring This site Wage Theft is a criminal offense .
OVERBILLING
amerigas charged us for some other persons tank fill up, then they raised our monthly payment from 150$ to 300$ a month based on usage. we told them they billed us twice on the same day and they said they had no record of that even though it was right on the bill that they sent us. So then they asked us to fax them the bill and we waited a week for them to contact us and they never did. finally we called them and the bill was not on file anywhere and they couldn't find any new information sent to them- GUESS WHY- no one had checked the fax machine in one week. Might be the most incompetent company on the planet. HATE AMERIGAS and as soon as i can i am getting rid of them.

Poor Billing Practices
This is the second time I've had a problem being OVER charged on a bill. I recently signed a AmeriLOCK agreement for 3.19/gal. My check for the annual program fee didn't get cashed so I called my local Amerigas office rep to find out why as i'm going to need to order gas soon. The rep, Denise, tells me she has my check in front of her and no worries the paperwork is in and will be processed. OK, great. I place a delivery order within a week or so. Then I get the bill. My bill seems higher than it should be, and oddly, the per gallon price isn't listed anywhere on my bill which immediately raises my suspicions. It calculates out to a price that is 11 cents higher per gal than my contracted rate so I try to reach my local office. Some strange guy answers and tells me that he's the only one there (?) and that Denise is out due to a death in the family (turns out this is a total LIE - she was LET GO and the branch is CLOSED but I don't find this out until much later.) THat if I could call back on Monday, that would be great. Ok, fine. I call back on Monday but I keep getting a BUSY signal. After a few days of this, I call the National Care center and inform them of the billing error and difficulty in reaching my local office. They tell me they will reach out to the branch and someone from the branch will get back to me. 5 days later, no call back yet. I again call the local office 3-4 x (busy every time) I call the Nat'l call center and the rep puts me on hold then gets back to say that my local office claims I never returned my program choice or contract! OMG, WTF is going on here? I tell that person that that is impossible. I've already confirmed with my local branch rep (Denise) weeks ago that my paperwork was in and check was received. I tell her she needs to find out what is going on over there. She'll call me back. Uh-huh. I am so angry that I again call the local office and finally, to my amazement, I get through, only to find out that the Lakehurst office was shut down and Denise is no longer an employee! I finally get a rep at the new office to admit that my paperwork was misplaced but now they've found it (uh-huh) and they will cancel my current incorrect bill and reissue at the correct, lower price. I told this rep that perhaps they should have been upfront with me and told me that Denise is no longer with the firm and that the branch was closed instead of all this pretending that it's business as usual. Did it not occur to them that they MAY HAVE misplaced my agreement in the office closure? Instead they choose to accuse me of not returning my agreement. What a bunch of clowns. I wouldn't recommend this company to ANYONE. They need to get their act together.

illegal tapping off tank
amerigas propane tapped off my propane tank. i told them i am elderly, diabetic, taking care of teenage daughter. this happened two weeks ago, they refuse to uncapp the tank, even though all the propane is paid for in full. the men were rude, disrepectful, refused to address my complaints, spent more time looking at the inside of my home. this is another scam against the elderly, as if we don't suffer enough! Amerigas is horrible, they need to go out of business!

And the other half of the story is…
I bet Amerigas has another explanation as to why the gas is capped.
Non existant Customer Support
Dear Amerigas,
You really need to manage your Gualala CA office better. The manager, Joe, needs to be on top of problems and not feign ignorance or try to blame the customer when problems happen. I have been an Amerigas customer at the above address for 12 years. In the past 12 months, I have 'fallen between the cracks' on 3 occasions.
Problem:
Third time in one year they have left my vacation rental without propane. I have refunded 1425.00 to my customers because of Amerigas. Yep, $1425.00 lost revenue nights, refunded nights, extra cleaning fees where people were not scheduled and buying them a hot meal in a local establishment to show them I do care about their comfort on vacation. ((3 nights at 333.00 each, plus 2 cleanings added to the schedule with no income for the substituted home, 250.00: Feeding the really irate family of 5 at a local restaurant when they couldn’t cook 125.00 and the final 51.00 feeding the family of 3 in Feb. The bill for feeding the family of 5 this week hasn’t reached me yet…..))
Problems started this past fall when the driver admitted he ‘just didn’t stop as he was running low on propane BUT planned to come by the next day”. BUT he didn’t come by and I had to call to find out what was going on?...and he hadn't been there in over 60 days? That renter was REALLY irate, cold, kids...no heat, no hot water, no cooking. Just ask the driver, Cory, or Melissa in the office, they can tell you HE WAS NOT HAPPY….I spent over 2 hours listening to him rant and rave that this was ruining his vacation and it was all my fault.
Okay, so I moved on and sucked it up…..In Feb. 2011, Amerigas changed out my tank WITHOUT NOTIFYING me...which meant, as no one was on the premises, they didn’t relight the pilot lights and LEFT THE PROPANE DISCONECTED. Funny, I have electronic locks (and the staff at Gualala Amerigas used them on the first ‘mistake’ to let themselves in to relight the pilots) and the code is supposed to be ON FILE for emergencies. Oh what fun that was to get a phone call from a vacation renter at 10pm on a Friday night that there was NO HEAT, NO HOT WATER AND NO PROPANE TO COOK WITH. Lucky me, I had a vacancy of one night at another rental 25 miles away and the people were gracious enough (with the incentive of a refund) to stay there until the propane was filled...and then I was so happy to pay a cleaning fee to the housekeeper for the one night unpaid rental (plus the refund of the other house)...
I guess I really am stupid...I didn’t cancel my service then...and now, I have allowed your Gualala Office do it to me again! This past Monday, July 11, I received an email at midnight, “the oven doesn’t seem to light’ thought I needed to call Sears for a repairman…BUT… On Tuesday approx 10am after talking to the renters and having them check the propane tank level….EMPTY….I called the Gualala office...The manager in Gualala, Joe, blamed me for the lack of propane? Funny how they made it monthly from Nov to April without my calling them...but have missed me for the past 3 months. He said "it is all computer generated" Oh? Then why the skip? He had no explanation….
I have 4 other rentals and have all set up with Kemgas on auto-fill with auto pay, I’ve NEVER had even ONE problem with Kemgas. Joe could not offer an explanation for the missed Amerigas deliveries nor did he offer to compensate the renters or me….all he could think to do was tell me he has never heard of his branch having ANY problems, let alone MY past problems. I suggested that as MANAGER, he should have weekly STAFF MEETINGS and ASK his employees if there have been any problems or concerns with customers in the past week….OBVIOULSY his STAFF does not keep him informed.
So…..Guess these renters just received a night's refund on my dime...AGAIN! As I cannot afford to keep refunding money to paying guests because AMERIGAS can’t seem to get the COMPUTER to generate a TICKET for DELIVERY to my home on a RELIABLE basis...I contacted Kemgas (who service my other tanks) and have given them this account also. Joe didn't seem to care one iota that he was losing a customer. Great way to do business Amerigas. I will be doing my best to spread the word locally that your Gualala office doesn't give a damn about its paying customers.
In this economy, no one can afford an unhappy consumer...I sure can't...as they can leave negative feedback for my rental(s) and that could impact my future earnings. So, you bet, I bend over backwards to make sure people feel treated well by my business.
Guess Amerigas is SOOOOOO BIG, you just don't care about individual accounts? That is the point of view I was given by your Gualala office….
Really Amerigas? You care not for your customers and what YOUR mistakes cost us?
Fed up and moving on...but NOT letting it drop. I will do my best to spread my tale of woe and poor customer service with AMERIGAS to any and all who will listen.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Petersen

Non payment of refund
Sounds like I'm not the first! I received a delivery of 168 gallons of gas on March 24 at $1.79 a gallon. I paid the bill $338.34 on 4/24/10. In August I called and informed Amerigas that I would be moving in Oct. and not to deliver any more gas. There was a delivery made in Sept. of 44.9 gallons for a charge of $131.90. I called back and was told that I...

I have been over charged by amerigas too. I just moved into town, when I did, i called and talk to Tabitha to Cancel my old service, she said that i wasn't going to owe much b/c I had paid a deposit of $170, last night, we get a call from amerigas claiming we owe them over $600! How does that happen in a matter of 3 buisness days? there is absolutly no way possible we could have used $400 worth of propane in a home we were no longer even staying in!

Unwanted delivery
Sadly, I too have a big complaint with Amerigas. After buying propane for 25 years, I decided to change my furnace to electric. This saved me a lot of money and already paid for the furnace. I notified Amergas in November that I needed to be off the automatic delivery list. My only propane appliance now is the kitchen stove and that is only used a few times per week. Two days ago (this is March) I found they had filled my tank again although it was already half-full and would not need propane for at least 8-12 months. I called the company only to get someone who knew nothing but would have someone call me back. There was no call back. I'll have to call them again. $419 dollar charge for 125 gallons gas that I did not need. I'm pissed.
I just recently paid my bill with AmeriGas. I was very upset to see that my bill statement that I received did not match the actual amount. I was told on my statement that I had a $500 credit, however when I went to pay my bill, I found out that I only had $15. WOW! UNREAL! How misleading? How can this be? The receptionist to me that 'there billing statements were not correct" but I feel this is very misleading to me as a customer. A customer that has been with you for a long time. Why did you not tell your customers what was going on? This makes no sense to me and I feel that you do not value your customers. That you mislead them with false information. Why after this incident should I stay using your company and why would I not go with someone different who values their customers?
I too have a complaint for Ameriga! They are a rip off and their customer service is the worst in the industry! We have a propane fireplace and rent a propane tank with Amerigas. Last summer they sent technicians to our home and told us a law had changed and they had to change something on the propane lines to tank. WE told them very clearly at that visit that we did NOT want the tank refilled because it was just for a fireplace which we would not need filled till fall like October. WELL you guessed it...they came and filled the tank and we got a nice $300 bill in the mail! I called and complained to local office and they told me we had to pay it and offered 4 payment plan. I paid one payment over the phone and they told me I would get paperwork or statements in mail to continue payments. Well then Amerigas changed billing systems and I couldn't pay online anymore and I never received the payment paperwork. Now they are calling me again after such a long time and I paid them over phone again! Now they send me paper bill twice the amount due person over phone told me was due. I am going to complain to the better business bureau and head to bank to get print out of all payments made to Amerigas. We will contact them to remove their tank from our property and tell everyone we know to steer clear of this company. They have done nothing but argue with me over the phone, harass us with collection calls and the whole problem was they delivered propane when we the customer asked them not to in the first place!

Price gouging, let us freeze
We have been an Amerigas custumer for eight years. Three weeks ago I sent my son up to their office with a 350.00 check. The rep informed us that propane was 5.03 a gallon and we needed another one hundred fifty bucks. How dare you charge so much for propane. We are exactly 7 miles from you. I subsequently walked out of my front door and asked the Suburban propane gas delivery person what the going price for propane was, and he told me 2.79 a gal. Called Ferrell gas: 2.69 per gallon. These were not new customer rates. We have been without heat for the second time this year and it was not due to the lack of money. Amerigas provides no customer srevice and no customer loyalty.
I HAD THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPEN TO ME. LAST YEAR I HAD THEM FILL MY TANK AND IT WAS 4.18 PER GALLON AND WHEN I CALLED TO QUESTION IT THEY TOLD ME TO CALL AROUND TO OTHER COMPANIES AND IF I FOUND IT LESS EXPENSE TO CALL BACK. I CALLED 5 LOCAL COMPANIES AND ALL WERE AT 2.99 NOT NEW CUSTOMER PRICES. I CALLED BACK AND BASICALL WAS TOLD TOUGH. THIS YEAR THEY TRIED THE SAME THING SO I SWITCH TO MASSEY WOOD AND WEST.

The worst company to deal with!
Yesterday I ran out of propane and called to get a refill. No one answered. I called again this morning and will have to pay $100 pressure test and if I want to place an expedited delivery it will be an additional $200! I called the Wayland, MI branch and they informed me I was now part of the Kalamazoo, MI branch. When I asked for the number to the Kalamazoo office they told me they weren't allowed to give it to me and to call the 1-800 number. I did, and they won't give me the number either. How can you run a business if you can't even contact the office!?
