Scamming Mail Order
I ordered $426.07 of plants and seeds and $118.72 worth of plants they sent were dead in the bags. They told me the plants were just dormant and that I should plant them to revive them. So I spent over 27 hours planting them and 3 months later they were still just as dead. Their policy is that they will give you a refund only if you send back the plants in 14 days of receiving them? This refund policy is a joke! Believe me, nobody who orders from this company gets their money back. They just send you more dead plants if you request them to. This company belongs to a conglomerate of 10 other mail order garden companies, and they all treat their customers the same. They have a combined negative consumer review percentage of a negative 65%, which means 2 out of every 3 customers get scammed by these 11 companies. I found these figures on Dave's Garden Watchdog, a gardening consumer forum. The following is a list of these 11 companies in question:

The mail order average negative consumer review for the entire garden industry is a negative 18%. So how do these 11 companies, including Burgess Seed and Plant Co., stay in business with a total of a negative 65% consumer review? They have 1418 negative reviews out of a total of 2177 reviews as 8-1-11. These 11 companies have been scamming consumers for years and nobody seems to do anything about it. I'm sure a lot of their customers are little old ladies on a fixed income that don't want to get involved when they get taken advantage of.
Poor products
I also purchase over $150.00 worth of plant products from eburgess which when they were FINALLY SHIPPED(2 weeks late) most arrived dead in a plastic bag. One of the biggest jokes was that
some of the plants were nothing more then dried out roots. You couldn't use these to start a good fire much less grow. This company is a poor excuse for mail order and I would anyone not to get
ripped off like I did.
PS. I am a small business owner and tried for a month to work things out with them and they refused to be honest about what happened as. It wasn't even the money I lost but the time I lost in fighting with
the idiots they working in their customer service department that was so upsetting. BUYER BEWARE OF THESE CON-ARTIST!
Ripped off
Burgess Seed & Plant Co. do not seem to want to keep up their end of the deal. They get your money promise a life time guarantee and the only thing you'll get is dead plants/flowers/trees missing items and a whole lot of aggravation trying to contact customer service. It seems that as soon as they recieve your money they must put you on a do not acknowledege list, because after that you will never speak to anyone from that company again. even e-mail are kicked back. I should have read all the terrible reviews, but life is about lessons learned.

5/2018 Never order from this company! Never! I did not receive the plants I ordered in March. They will not issue refund to credit card. Said they mailed a voucher for items less shipping(I never received). Customer service incompetent liars. They actually told me to shut up and hung up on me when I asked them to issue a refund to my credit card because I never received the voucher that they never mailed.
Do not under any circumstances order from this company. I had some plants that arrived dead in 2017, I followed their return policy and they sent my claim back and said they wanted to see if the plants would come out of it. I waited and this year the plants were obviously dead. I called them for replacements for the plants that I received dead and a couple more that had since died I was told that my warranty expired in April. No plants around my area were budding this year in April so I could not have known they were dead yet. I explained that to their customer service person and their response was "Sorry".
i only got part of my order, tried to call several times, sent email, with no responce
I placed an order in early spring of 2010 and finally received my order well after normal planting times. To make matters worse they took the liberty of filling my order with plants I didn't want as they were out of stock of the items I ordered.
The plants were mostly dead or close to it and I ended with about half of what I planted never coming up. These were the scrawniest plants and tubulars I ever saw. You can buy better plants anywhere supermarkets, costco, lowes home depot you name it there better. Never Again!
Bad company
I ordered almost $200 worth of trees at ea. $7
and two different blueberry plants.
The screen showed the $7 blueberry in the ad
and invoice said it'd be 12-18 inches.
I received a 6 inch broken dead twig.
I planted it anyway, after three days nothing - got browner.
I wrote the eBurgess and complained - sent them
a photo and invoice copy for a replacment and they
wrote back saying I need the orignal shipping bag
(the one that was dirty and torn) of course
I didn't keep that - had I known!
no refund - no replacement.
rip off - false advertising! DON"T BUY FROM THEM!
Fraud
My husband Ordered one pack of serpent cucumber seeds Jumbo pack/$1.70 and Lemon Hybrid Tomato plants 12/$14.99.
ALl the plants were dead, bone dry and they weren't even packed right. I called them and they said we would have to send back the dead plants at our exspence. They are ripping us off and I can't even get a refund. Everytime we called them they gave us differant instructions and they can't even get that right. They exspect you to pay for all returns, which is also a rip off. This is the U.S. What ever happened to running an honest busines. THEY WILL NOT EVER GET ANOTHER DIME FROM ME.

Product and customer service
I ordered several plants through this company and, not only does it take forever to arrive, 50% of the plants were dead ! When you call the company rep for help on the problem you find out quickly that the 100% guarantee is worthless. Customer service is rude and products are lousy. Save your money and don"t use this company.

This company is awful. I placed order on March 11th and my credit card was charged on March 16th. They did not ship the order until April 17th. I called weekly until then and was always told that they did not know when it would ship. After it shipped on April 17th they told me it would take 2 weeks. It never came. I was told every time I called that they would not be able to do any kind of trace until it had been 30 days from the shipping date. Now that 31 days have passed they told me that I will need to wait 2 to 3 weeks in order to confirm that I did not get the package and then they will give me my money back. I have my doubts that I ever will.
Don't order from them
In early March I ordered several plants from this place expecting to receive them with 2-3 weeks...boy was I wrong. I did not receive the plants and trees until mid May which is past our planting season for a lot of what I had ordered here in the deep South. I use to be employed with burgess seed and Plant Company. I worked in the call centre, let me tell you this, they are horrible with customer service and once they have your money your in for a ride. Not a very good one at that.
They don't pay the shipping department what they should. So therefore when your packages are being sent out, they handle them extremely ruff. I will give you some of the most important information you will ever read... DON'T waste your time, money or effort, trying to order from them. I have seen their company from the inside, and it is just as bad as what people say and think.

I ordered some plants last fall everything is fine except my sedum (3) sets for a total $13.47 plus my shipping they did not live thru the winter so I want to know what my options are at this point. I saved my order form etc.

Every plant I ordered from them (two seperate multiple orders) poorly packaged and never showed any life whereas all plants from other companies all lived and grew. No easy way to provide them input on this and tell them don't send me any more catalogs.
I always buy Planters Deluxe mixed nuts because I don't like hazelnut or peanuts. Now I buy a can of said mixed nuts and to my dismay I find you have switched Brazil nuts for hazelnuts. Very unhappy in Illinois.
I just ordered stuff from them 2 weeks ago and they charge your credit card on the spot and you wait, wait and wait. After e-mails to them all you get is the order is in there shipping department or that it will take 1 to 2 weeks to process the order depending on weather and product availability. When questioned about the early charge to your credit card they just ignore that with no comment at all. Also any contact you get from them they do not give a last name of who you are talking to on the phone and on the e-mail contacts all you get is "Customer Care" for whoever replied to you. I called my credit card company and enacted a dispute on Burgess for No product and or service provided and my credit card company said they were going to remove the charges instantly. Then e-mailed them a order cancellation notice with informing them that I will not accept any packages from them as informed to do by my credit card company.
Somthing tells me from reading complaints from others that they will still pull some stunts and this matter is not over yet.
The Ill. BBB has a huge amount of such complaints about Burgess all about this type of practice as well as DEAD/faulty products with warranty recovery scam. Also they have 10 companies under a umbrella Name.
