free 1040ez's??
I went in to my local h&r block to do my taxes on 1/28/11 because a flier told me they do 140ez for free this year, well let me tell you if you get e. I. C. , they charge you $42.00, and they call this free, this is a scam ! No where on the flier does it tell you this ! People beware and shame on h&r block!
The state of Florida law states"That when a said business has something that states "free ", said business cannot put taxes or payments on said "free"item . I called the IRS and agent told me that the EIC form is part of the 1040 EZ, so no Taxprep4U, sorry your wrong!

Charizmah. Turbo Tax is a great program, but be sure that you understand every line on your tax return and where the corresponding number came from.
If you can't understand and explain every line, then you are only asking for trouble. Good Luck!
LOL, I read your post twice JMastrianoCPA. I hope your firm does a better job representing taxpayers, than you did in offering advice to the
original poster. Since you apparently have so much business you can
do no more than spam this board, I will try to help the original
poster.
corchado, it sounds like you may have filed Schedule A Itemized Deductions. Unfortunately, Congress passed several tax laws late in 2010. IRS stated they would need until Feb 14th 2011 to get their systems up to speed for electronic filers of certain forms.
This electronic filing delay is not the fault of H&R Block or any other company filing electronic returns. To put it simply, it is the fault of
the United States Congress. Keep that in mind when it is time to vote!
Your preparer should have advised you of the IRS delay and the impact it would have on your refund. I doubt going to one of Block's
competitors would have produced a different outcome. Good Luck next year!
Do not go to HR Block anymore. Why pay hundreds of dollars when you can efile on Turbotax for free? It makes no sense. I have a friend who used Turbotax and received his tax return days before I'm supposed to from HR Block. That was $200 down the drain and I still haven't received it. Go anywhere but HR Block. Even Jackson Hewitt is better.
can't do taxes
So I went to H+R Block this year because I thought maybe I was losing money doing it online. Not true! The "Tax Professional" was a first year tax student at the local college. I will admit, I was nervious when she kept talking about her tax 100 class. She wanted me to pay over 300 dollars and that was after she messed up my taxes, telling me that I was actually getting a thousands dollars more that I actually was. They didnt even find the error, my wife did. My wife went in, no tax experience, and asked a few smart questions. They realized thier computers had messed up our estimate. I went home and did the return in an hour, got the exact same estimate for 1/10th the price.
website redirect, browser hijack
When trying to click on specific irs links through google, I am redirected to the h&r block website. I did not request this website nor did I wish to go there. When I attempt to back up, it repeatedly goes back to the h&r site. Finally I get back to the google search page, check the link I clicked and sure enough it says irs.Gov. I do not doubt that this is partly due to the cookies I have failed to delete. However, I would like to complain that h&r block has obviously paid for the services that allowed them to hijack my browser. It is deceptive and I don't think that a business with their reputation should have to stoop to such tactics in order to have my business. They have surely lost my business because of this.
My wife has run into the same prob of Hijack and Ripoff Block. She is directed to their website when she tries to check her emails. Can anyone help?
H & R Block are spammers and scammers...'nuff said!
I am also getting the same thing. I logged into my hotmail and before i could click on a message I am redirected to http://www.hrblock.com/tax-software/deluxe.html?otpPartnerID=7840&campaignId=af_mcm_7840_0001&AID=10449126&PID=2203897... This is becoming rediculous and yes I am accusing them of breaking federal laws.
This is no mistake and no advertising campaign. I cant even check my email because of this.
Another possible explanation, is H&R Block has paid advertising dollars to Google. I know, I know you thought Google was your friend. In reality
they have bills to pay, just like everyone else.
There are two things that are brought into question from your complaint.
The first is that you are accusing H&R block of breaking several federal laws. If you truly feel this way then you should file a complaint with http://www.ic3.gov
It is also very unlikely that the sites your visiting are the actual H&R block or even irs.gov websites. During this time of year many phishing websites are created like this to trick people into giving them their personal information.
I recommend that you have someone look over your system. Perform the appropriate scans and remediation steps to remove the 'nasties' on your system.
screwed up tax return
Wife and I receive railroad retirement benfits and there are certain different rules to filing a return. I called the local H & R Block office and asked if they were knew how to do a return involving railroad retirement and they lied and said yes, they had no clue, in addition I recently transfered my IRA and they did not know how to show that on my return. about 18 months later a get a letter from the IRS wanting another $26, 000 in taxes, I finally got that straight when I sent prove that I did not spend my IRA but transfered it, then the IRS wanted another 2, 600 because of the way H & R reported my HSA (health savings account) finally got that straight, H & R are a bunch of incompitent clowns, every time I receive something from them or see theirs adds, my BP goes up.

Tax Prep 4 U, you sound just like a crook! Oh boy we made a mistake, well sorry we're still learning! Bull crap! People come to these companies and trust that things will get done correctly! That is what should be done reguardless!
Ed Henry, you have a return that is beyond what most 1st or 2nd year
preparers are capable of preparing. It makes no difference which
company you go to, all of them have to hire new people and new people
have to learn before they can soar like eagles with the rest of us.
When you call any tax office, you will more than likely be talking
to a receptionist with zero tax knowledge. She or he, has been instructed
to say: " Sure we can do whatever return you have, can I set you up with an appointment?" Sorry Ed, that is just how the tax business works. If you decide to go back to H&R Block, ask for an appointment with an Enrolled Agent. He or she will be competent enough to handle your somewhat harder than average return. Cheers!
incorrect tax return
I have had my taxes done for years at H & R Block. This year I went to a tax professional. After he reviewed my last years taxes, he found that H & R Block did not give me earned income credit for my daughter. Their mistake cost me over $3, 000! After looking at my previous taxes, he discovered they have never given me the earned income credit for her. I am now owed the wopping total of close to $10, 000 from the IRS. I called the local H & R Block and the "manager" told me sorry, their system is down from all the tax returns they are preparing and to call him tomarrow morning. This is total inexcusable! I can only refile back to 2007. How do I go about getting all the money that is owed me?
terrible, unprofessional service
I called H&R Block 01/24/2011 at 120 .west 87th. St. to make an appointment to see Mr. Fredrick Monu. I was told that he doesn't come into the office until 5pm, but if I needed an earlier appointment all I had to do was give a time and he would come in early. I told the lady I needed to come in Thursday on my off day at 12:00 she said make it 12:30. I said...

I filed my taxes. The company is advertising free filing. They told me what I would get back. I received my check but the stub was not there. When I went to cash it, I couldnt without the stub. I had to fight to get the stub. Once I recieved it I saw that over 374.oo had been taken as fees. Never was I told about these fees, they let me think I was filing free as the TV advertisement suggested.
I was not given the fees before hand to allow me to make a choice as to whether I wanted to pay these charges. I would have gone to my regular filer If I had known as they were over $150.00 cheaper.

fraud
Have been a customer for a long time but never again. First I was lied to about getting an instant refund then lied to again and told no one was doing instants this year so did the 8 to 15 day any way because it was too late at that that point now they received my state funds yesterday and still have not posted them to my account. They tell me they will be posted by five their time today after giving me the run around and telling me to call the state. That is when I found out the state issued my money to them yesterday. I call them back now they inform me they have the money they just haven't posted it yet and they are taking their fees from that instead of from my federal because the state is coming in first so its costing four hundred dollars to receive my taxes on the same day as my fiance and I did his for free on e-file this is FRAUD! Plain and simple and it needs to stop!

misleading liers
I went to H&R Block this year expecting to get the same great service i received last year. After calling the appointment line to try to get in for a Emerald Advance i was given the wrong appointment day and wrong office and when i showed up to where i thought my appointment was i was told i had no appointment scheduled there. I had asked the appointment line guy if i could just walk in and be seen and he said no i had to make a appointment and found out later that was a lie. Anyways i apply for the advance with someone who was at least 80 (not lying) and said he had not done a Emerald Advance before but there was no one else that could help at the time ( poor old guy i felt sorry for him so i allowed him to do my application anyways) well i ended up pretty much doing the application myself because he kept entering the wrong info into the computer but i got approved anyways so i was happy. I went back after i got my W-2's to file my return and told the preparer i wanted my refund back the same way i got last year which was a RAL and he kept mentioning something about a RAC and i kept asking what that was and was told we would go over all of that once we were done ( RAC sounded like the same as a RAL to me) i was asked about childcare expenses when it came to that part and i told them i had almost $3000 in expenses but he made it seem like i didnt have enough to claim and that it wouldnt be worth getting the receipt for ( last year my husband was a stay at home dad so we didnt have childcare last year so i didnt know anything about that credit) so he made it seem like it would make no difference on my tax return well at the end of it all i find out that i have to wait 8-15 days for my tax return which i should have been told that they do not do the RAL's anymore and i was also lied to when i asked about it and was told no one was doing the RAL's anymore because the IRS has banned them. Jackson and Hewitt still does RAL's but will not ever be going there again either and that is a whole nother story! Was told when we came back to complain that they would see if we could file a ammended tax return to claim the childcare expenses at no expense but a couple days later got a nasty and rude 5 minute message saying it was our fault for that and that we would have to pay if we wanted it done. Well maybe it was somewhat our fault for trusting them to know how to file a tax return and telling us we could have gotten another $500 for the childcare but next year i will go elsewhere and will use a accountant which only charges around $100-150 instead of the approximate $260 i was charged and would get it back sooner too! Oh and did i mention the guy that did my 2nd return was around 70! I will be filing my ammended return myself!

i am a father of three, who was laid off one week before i recieved my w2's. I went ti h&r block for a rapid refund. after my taxes were filed, they then explained to me about an 8-15 day waiting period. that was when i found out there was no more rapid refund. they told me it was to late to change my mind & go somewhere else, because the filing was done. i was charged $349.50 for there service, $32.00 for bank fees, and $13.00 for state. my 15th day was yesterday & there's no money. i called the i.r.s. & they told me if H&R BLOCK's waiting on them they'll get to it when they get to it. i then talked to a supivisor for h&r block, and he told me i am waiting for the i.r.s. . my e-file was accepted on the 17th w/the i.r.s. & it is now the 29th. i am now told by H&R BLOCK to just keep calling until the refund is put onto my emerald green card. the supervisor told me it's out of there hands. what did i pay almost $400.00 for then. it only cost you $1.00 to do your taxes through the i.r.s.. i bet next year we all who have dealt w/theses losers will take our business elsewhere. they are screwing people out of what they did stand for. lesson learned. my name is james p. courtney & i 100% percent stand behind everything that i've said isscrewy about H&R BLOCK. they have conned this year, & i truely hope they go bankrupt next year. i know someone who works for them & they don, t have a diploma of any kind. they paid $99.00, took a course, got the job. there's your professional H&R BLOCK. sorry to everyone screwed this year by these con artists.
i am really mad right now, went to h and r block to do my taxes...i stay at home taking care of my 7 month old while my bf works, my child was born in june of 2010 so i only worked half the year. while i was fileing my taxes i told him direct and clear that i stay at home, im not married, have a child and live with my boyfriend who is the childs father, i didnt make alot last year because i worked till june and i was part time only making under 10, 000. but my boyfriend makes 36, 000, and i told the guy who would be better off claiming our child and he said i would because my bf makes over the 35, 000 so im like ok whatever i guess it doesnt matter we are getting back something.
i got home and told my bf i did my taxes and then i told him that i was told that he could not claim our daughter becuase he makes over the limit. he was really confused and said that sounds messed up, im like well i cant help it im sorry you make to much, ill just half the money with you. i really was getting mad at my bf because he wouldnt let it go, and i told him im sorry theres nothing we can do i told you that already, the man showed me a paper.
well he still wouldnt drop it so i looked online and saw that thats not true and i was sorta confused so i called a different tax preparation and i told them my story and they were suprised that h and r block did that to me telling me that they never heard of if you make a certain amount you cant claim your child and at 36, 000 i dont see why they said that. well i was fired up and about to go into h and r block and give my opion and what there doing is wronge, but i thought i will call, i got on the phone and told them what i found out and the man was suprised and i told him who did my taxes and the man said that he was sorry and that he might have misunderstood me, im like ok how do you misunderstand someone when your doing your taxes and your talking face to face and your very detailed about your income, and he is doing my taxes so he knows what i made. the man on the phone said something about an income credit and claiming children, im like ok i understand what you are telling me but that was not what i asked i was told he could not claim her becuase he makes to much, he never said anything about that. i just wanted to know would get more tax return if claiming a child, the man asked if i wanted to come in to have a look at them again and something about doing them over but i hear about high charges for that so whats the use and i dont want to wait forever for my taxes, im waiting 8-15 so im just going to wait. i will never go to h and r block agian, and i found out they only charge high charges if your claiming dependents, i paid almost 300 to get my taxes done becuase im claiming a child, my friend told me that thats outragious. im not sure if the reason i had bad luck was because this was my first year claiming a child and i might have said something that he didnt hear, but still i was clear on everything so im not sure what to thinkg.
next year im just going to go to a different tax preparation place, there is one down the block from me, not everyone has bad experiences but this was mine, i just dont want to have to go through the same game i went through the first time, its just like if you were to get a f-ed up haircut, your not going to go back to the place becuase they might do the same mistake.
"Don't trust your financial well-being to these part-time "accountants" who only brush up on the tax code a few months out of the year."
Sorry but had to say this ROFL :):)
In high school I took 2 years of computers and accounting.
Do you think they would hire me right out of high school
NO
What they wanted was people with sales experience not math, computers, accounting, skills.
Yes it was high school but it was better than nothing.
And just so you know even after they have figured out what your refund will be you are still under no obligation to have them file it for you. Until you sign it you can walk away at any time. I was almost sure that these type of places would not be open this year. But I was wrong. They are open and they are depending on people that are for one reason or another depending them to do their taxes when 90% of them can do it on their own. And I am sure that the number is higher as they will not do business taxes. They will tell you to go to an accountant for that. I will extend my prediction that this year they will have a lot of unhappy customers. Most of these companies will be gone within 3-5 years. As the government is making it easier each year to do your taxes on line thru them. It really does eliminate errors which makes the process easier each year.
This is why I do my taxes myself. Yes the government has changed the laws regarding RAL's. However that guy that told you that they banned it is full of it. they changed a law on the info that these companies use to use to give you your check. you see they were in essence running a credit report on you. Which is no big deal right. You see most states prohibit any information that is concerning children and the courts to be available online. Adults records and court proceedings are fine but nothing concerning children. And what they were doing was getting information on whether or not you owed back child support. If you did not they would write you a check. Well the government passed a law that removed their ability to get that information. And in turn they are making you wait to get your check. Really makes them useless now in my book. As you can file your tax return for free if you make under I believe 50K last year. And the computer will find all of the credits you are entitled to for you. It will ask you questions and you answer and fill in the blanks. And you can have them direct deposit your refund into your account which will take just as long as you waiting for these places to write you a check. Or the government will mail you a check.
It is really easy to file your taxes on your own especially if it is a simple return. I do not suggest it if you have your own business though. There are many laws that most do not know about. Unless you are like me and will spend weeks reading everything before you file you run a great risk of doing something wrong. Which can cost you.
As far as you filing an amendment. It is really very easy to do this. Go to your local IRS building and get the proper form. you can even have them help you with it. And they will not charge you to do this.
The same thing happened to me. I have filed my taxes with H&R Block for 15 years always getting my refund back in 3-5 days. This year I was not told until after my taxes were figured that they did not offer this service anymore and it would be 8-15 days before I received my refund with an RAC. I could have save myself the $297 and filed on my own and got it back in 8-15 days, which I will do next year. They told me over the phone that it was their policy not to discuss refund policies until after they figure the taxes because they don't know if the person will receive a refund or not. I then explained to the lady that I was not stupid, they are not telling people about the change because then most people will leave and maybe go to Jackson Hewitt who is offering the RAL still. I feel like I was totally mislead by H&R and will never use them again. With all the low cost tax programs out there I will be filing on my own from now on.
h&r block are liars!
We have been trying to get our $400 back from these jerks for over a week now. We have been lied to and just want our money back! We tried to place an order online for $400 for our son for a pocketbike. The order did not go thru because the vendor did not have the item in stock. Well H&R Block kept telling us to wait 24 hours for the money to be put back on the card. Then they tell us that we have to contact the vendor and have them send a fax saying it's ok to release the money to them. The vendor will not do that because the order never went thru because they didn't have the item in, therefore they can't release money they never had Every time we call customer service we talk to someone that can't speak English. I am so sick of calling them and getting the run-around. All we want is our son's $400 back that he worked hard to save up! Do not ever get one of these cards!

I have been using an emerald card for five years and all of a sudden this yr I go to an atm machine and try to withdrawl 400 but I only got 100 I sent in all of my paper work to the dispute company and a week later they gave me the 300 that was owed to me. A week later my account is negative and when I call they give me the run around for 2 hrs! And they tell me I was only shirted 40 dollars, which is incorrect, mist if not all of us count our money after it is withdrawled from an atm now they are taking money from my paychecks and I am unsure of what to do now since I have never dealt with this sort of problem. I just want my money from them
I ran into this one time with my Emerald Card, I paid for a baseball registration $150 online and something went wrong and they payment did not go through, but $150 "hold" was put on my card. I called Emerald Card people and they faxed a paper over to the baseball league to verify that the transaction had been cancelled and the funds were no longer needed and it was OK to release the funds, I received the money back in 3 business days.

I ordered 2010 tax software online. At confirmation of purchase, my computer froze up but dr was posted immediately to my bank

Later same day, actual dr also posted, as dri*hrblock software which is the legitimate charge.
I am contacting hr block and my bank.
tax mistake
I had H & R Block do my taxes for a few years. In 08 a different lady did my taxes. I had a reclassification of a ROTH IRA, I said that numerious times. I got a notice from the IRS that I owed $4500.00 due within 60 days. I called H & R Block and they said that was too far back and Just pay it. I had to talk to the lady at IRS and she took care of it without the help of H & R Block. It cost me 264.00 to have my taxes done incorectly and when confronted with the mistake they would not help!
Thanks H & R Block
You can bet I'll be giving you more money

I am a Canadian military veteran with 25 years of service. I was injured in military service and released. I took my severance pay package and put it into a registered retirement savings plan. I went to H&R Block to have my 2012 tax return completed because I read that they had the experience when dealing with the special circumstance of military taxes. I put my trust in them BIG TIME!
Guess what? I got a an $11, 000 tax return/rebate and spend it on vehicle repairs and a household move. But guess what, my taxes were reassessed and I owe the government $12, 000. H&R Block went and put down my RRSP twice so it looked like I had this large tax shelter. They screwed up big time! Now the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) wants their money by 18 Sept. So either I have to withdraw from my RRSP at a least a 30% tax rate plus the amount will become part of income in 2013 or get a bank loan. Monthly installments are not an option.
H&R Block has a one size fits all mistake policy where they pay the interest owing to the CRA. I have taken 2 days off work now to try and straighen this up. They have taken away my ability to purchase a home under the home buyers plan for the disabled and have put me in debt that I had no intend to be in.
had my refund for 2+ years, won't give me my money!
Discovered from the IRS that they refunded $2298.00 and $419.50 on 10-17-2008 into an account with H&R Block for my 2007 taxes. When I went to H&R Block to do my taxes 4-12, H&R Block sold me on the Rapid Refund. Well, after calling for 2-3 weeks to see where the money was, I was informed through the IRS that they were holding my refund because I had an outstanding tax return from 2004. On [protected], the IRS informed me of the deposits made and when they were made. On [protected], I called H&R Block, they acknowledged receipt of the $2298.00 only. They said they sent out the pre-pd credit card but it was never activated. They then told me that they would request the re-issue of a new card, it would be overnighted to me via Fed-Ex, and that it would be in my hands NO LATER than Wednesday, 11-10, and I could call Monday for a tracking number. I called again Wednesday, 11-10 for the tracking number. This time I was told they never get the tracking numbers, they don't send things out overnight, the card was made 11-8 and would be in my hands, NO LATER than Friday, 11-12. Today, 11-12 I called, was told the card was never issued or on the way. Sorry, ma'am, nothing we can do. I asked for a supervisor and was placed on hold for a very long time. The supervisor came on the line, said the card was never issued and was not on the way. She was very sorry I was misinformed and told me they do not send things overnight, that is not their contract with Fed Ex, the other 3 people I talked to did not give me the right information, sorry ma'am. She said they arrive in 3-5 business days. I told her that I wanted my money transferred into my bank account immediately. She said she could do that but it would take 5-7 business days. I was never offered this option, had we done that, I would have had my money today. She said there was no way it could be done faster, and the best thing to do was to get another card requested and that it will be sent out overnight through Fed Ex...(wait a minute, "WE DON'T SEND THINGS OUT OVERNIGHT..." I told her I wanted to speak with her supervisor, to which she said she was the top supervisor, there was no one else above her. I told her I wanted the interest refunded to me also for the past 2+ years, she said she could request it, but they were not going to do it. DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH H&R BLOCK! I don't see how they can be allowed to continue to steal from honest, hardworking people.
i'm having issues with them too :( they did my taxes in May, gave me 90$ back, and yesterday i got a letter from the Gov saying i owe then 600$ by the end of the month because H&R did my taxes wrong... I dont have 600$ floating around
they stole money from me
These people stole over $900 from my Emerald Card. Then they locked me out of my account. I tried calling various numbers and all I got was a call center in the Philipines or some dumb ### that kept hanging up on me. Then I went to my Twitter page and began saying some pretty nasty things about them and they contacted me! I basically told them I want my...

H & r block had an error in their software for 2009 tax year, and as a result, I owe the government almost $2000 (That's right two thousand dollars!). They refuse to help me with this payment caused by the error in their software. They have left me twisting in the wind. The following is their response.
"h&r block heidi ~ as the taxpayer you are responsible for tax liabilities owed to the irs. Had this discrepancy not existed in the product originally, you would have owed these taxes at the time you completed your taxes. We apologize, but h&r block cannot pay your taxes for you. Therefore, pursuant to limitations set forth in the end user license agreement that you agreed to be bound by when you used the product, we are not at liberty to provide payment of the tax liability. We regret that we are unable to take on this liability for you. However, our standard accurate calculations guarantee will cover payment of any interest you may be assessed from the irs due to the miscalculation. You will need to follow the instructions in the letter that you received in order to be reimbursed for any interest payments. Contact the tax professional who completed your amendment for options on making payments to the irs. " ~jeremy
Well, thanks for the advice on "options" to repay the IRS, unfortunately unless I repay the IRS within 30 days HR BLOCK will not be held responsible for paying ANYTHINGGGGGG. Isn't that what your letter says, Jeremy? Lots of double talk and hidden nuances in your letter, right Jeremy? You also fail to mention that the "END USER AGREEMENT" states that you will not be held responsible for "arithmetic" errors in your software. This was an error in your software that allowed an education credit to go through that I was not entitled to. That, Jeremy, is NOT an arithmetic error. You can keep repeating that this is MY liability and you will not pay MY liability as many times as you think it takes to have the public buy what you're selling. The truth of the matter is, I am now faced with a balloon payment (unless I want to pay all the fees and fines caused by HR BLOCK by using a repayment plan) of TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS. Having to pay TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS and not getting TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS back in a tax return are two VERY different things, Jeremy. I have NEVER not paid my taxes and for you to insinuate that this is somehow me trying to get out of paying them is both insulting and disgusting to me. SHAME ON HR BLOCK. I will continue to make my story known to every person I can reach via FB, MEDIA and legally. Have no doubt. You can carry on with your legalese...you're not fooling anyone with an education, Jeremy...and those are the ones paying your bill at HR BLOCK.
Just to let EVERYONE know...H & R BLOCK had an error in their software this year, and as a result, I owe the government almost $2000 (that's right TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS!). Yep, they got me a nice big tax return and then, 4 months later tol...d me they made a mistake and I have to give $2000 back. They encouraged me to look at it as an "interest free loan". I said, "really? an interest free loan I didn't want, didn't agree to, and now owe back in a big fat balloon payment? THAT kind of interest free loan?" Yeah. DON'T USE H & R BLOCK!
HR BLOCK's way out of their liability is to quote their "END USER AGREEMENT" which states they are not responsible for "arithmetic" errors. That's kind of funny, in and of itself, considering they are a TAX RETURN SERVICE. Let's hope your tax return service wouldn't make arithmetic errors, huh? However, this was NOT an "arithmetic" error, but an error in their software that allowed an education credit to go through that I was apparently not entitled to. This resulted in a notice FOUR MONTHS LATER that I owe TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS to the government. Now, let's explore...with a family of six, how much of that TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS would I have left in my wallet to pay the IRS with? Correct. None. It is not a matter of paying the tax, I ALREADY PAID MY TAXESSSSSSS! It's a matter of HR BLOCK making an error leading to me having to REPAY my taxes after letting me believe that money was mine to spend. SHAME ON HR BLOCK. DO NOT USE THEM. THEY DO NOT STAND BY THEIR PRODUCTS AND YOU WILL BE LEFT HOLDING THE TAX BAG BY YOURSELF.

Td577 - Dont you think that by paying these "professionals" hundreds of dollars to do your taxes that it would be correct.. and them being a larger corporation they would own up to their mistake.. Yes this money was always owed to the government...&... Im all for paying taxes owed... but why have a company do your taxes, if you have to re-calculate anyways..
Anyways td577 - hope that this happens to you.. (weather or not you calculate it yourself..or get a proffessional do it... ) or the city raises your property taxes substancially with no warning.. LOL.. Yes i wish you financial hardship due to taxes that were unbeknownced to you... then when you are whining on the internet, ... some [censored] tells you to man-up and pay your taxes.. LOL
i know how you feel, they gave me 90$ back in April, and i got a nice lovely letter from the government that says i have to the end of the month to pay them 600$... i live alone and dont have much money.. i cant come up with 600$ out of the air. Good luck to you
stay far away from h&r block premier
Why is it that when you ask for an itemized receipt from H&R Block Premier services you are told that they cannot do that because is is proprietary information and why is it that they cannot tell you what it will cost to do your taxes prior to doing them even when you show them the forms that were filled out the year before? Do all chains of tax preparation services do this -- tell you it might be one price and then when it comes time to pay for them it is a few hundred more.
The competition between H&R Block, Liberty, and JH is intense, particularly in areas related to pricing. In my experience, H&R Block does not provide printed itemized pricing information. They will show you the itemized breakdown on screen when they go over the tax prep cost, if you request it.
In 2010 H&R Block started providing price ranges for individual tax preparation. I found the ranges were too wide to be very informative.
not covering their mistakes
we had our taxes done at the corporate office in mesa their preparer didnt put my wifes w2s on the returns then we recive a letter from the irs saying we now owe them 1566. and when contacted hr block talking to district manager john walsh he said they would cover all charges owed to fed and state and also any fines and penelties we recived a check of 69.00 from them and letter saying they will not cover what is now owed to fed and state but will only cover fines and penelties we have started looking for an attorny as it has been confirmed this is our only chance to get this taken care of for anyone who reads this before choosing hr block DONT their ectra protection is nothing but a scam to get extra money from you.
when you pay for their extra coverage yes it is read their contract
I had a similar issue with that in Mesa didn't understand. I friend of mine gave me the District Managers name and I met with him. He spent almost an hour with me and went over everything to help me understand. When they brought the records out of storage and we looked at what was attached, my additional W-2 wasn't there. Then I remembered it came later that year for some reason, so I couldn't have had it. In the end it was my fault we owed, but he picked up part of cost even thought he technically didn't have to. had us meet with a wonderful tax person named Tina. I can't find his card, think his name was Wade Johnson at the Gilbert and Southern H&R Block. I think block is like most companies, they have there share of idiots, but for the most part they try. I go to that office from now on because I'm very comfortable with the staff, you should try going there!
never in a million years would I go back to h&r block to get my taxes done
I have been going to h&r block for a few years now, and have had an "ok" experience... Until I get home yesterday and have a letter in the mail from the irs. I open it and it tells me I owe them over $6, 000 in federal alone. I took the letter down to the h&r block office I did my taxes at and they told me I did not supply all of my w2's, so I pull out my copy of the return and show them I indeed did bring everything into them. They review everything and tell me "i'm sorry, I didn't see this one". Then continued to tell me since my husband and I worked at the same place that they thought it was a duplicate w2 and just set it aside. This was a $20, 000 "miskey". They told me that they will only pay $5, 000 of the mistake and we would have to pay the rest. Then they tell me this is not including the fees I will now owe the state, which comes to a total to around, $1, 700. I told them that it was their mistake and they should have to pay all of it. The lady at the desk tells me that the "piece of mind" only covers up to $5, 00 plus any interest and penalty's. I proceeded to ask her if they have an e&o policy (Errors and omissions) she of course does not know what I am talking about. Before I leave the office, the lady tells me that she will contact me and let me know if the claim is approved. I ask her what do you mean if it is approved. So I am stuck knowing if I have to fight this or if they will be honest and pay it. I leave the office and come into work to call the headquarters to speak with a supervisor. I asked him if h&r block has an errors and omissions endorsement on their insurance policy. He tell me no. I asked him if he was out of his mind and I would be contacting my attorney. Never in a million years would I go back to h&r block to get my taxes done.
Did you and your husband sit down with a tax preparer or was this a "drop-off" return?
screwed me up
H&R Block screwed up my taxes. Instead of a refund check I received a letter from the IRS that my taxes were not properly files - missing documents! Now it's going to take 8 to 10 weeks to get my check!
They are also overpriced! I paid $411 for shabby tax service! I will no longer use H&R Black and will tell my store to others!
It's time to start doing things myself as it seems that many services need to be babysat... from the McD drive threw to H&R Block... If yo u want it done right you got to do it yourself!

Sorry MIKED007, Schedule EIC is not part of 1040EZ.
It is an entirely different form and it can be filed with 1040EZ, 1040A, or 1040.
Call the IRS back and talk to a more experienced agent.
The Florida law you are attempting to cite is irrelevant to this situation.
Actually MIKED007, the flier does inform you that there will be an
additional charge if EIC is claimed. If you didn't want to pay for EIC, you should have told them to remove it from the return, but I am guessing
that your EIC was more than $42. Am I right? Cheers!
i got mine for free, you probably had to use other forms
