business mal practice
Please stay away from these frauds.
They lure you into their contracts with false information saying. It will cost you $78 without contract but $39 with contract. What they don't tell you is you have to pay monthly membership charge of $20 which makes it $59 not $39. By the time you know this you must have signed the contract. When you ask them about it any additional massages in the month will cost you $39(nice).
Hassles to get out of the contract:
Get a doc certificate to get out the contract. What kind of sane person will sign the contract if he knows that he has to get a doc certificate to get out of the contract. But they withheld this information to get you sign the contract. The second is move away 25 miles from you current address ( wow so I have to move away to get out of your contract).
When I insisted that I do not like their service and to get me out of their contract they said to get it from other towns. This is real hypocrisy they say they take you out of their contracts when you move away 25 miles but they want you to go other towns to get service in case you don't like service in this town - Great.
Final touch - Their contracts are auto renewed. Incase you are not careful - you are stuck for another cycle.
Please raise your voice against them.
corrupt business
I had a membership at massage envy for my neck problems. I got a membership in hopes of relief. A few months of massages that did absolutely nothing to help I sought out a REAL medical doctor who said I have a pinched nerve and hyperextended neck. I brought the doctor note and was cancelled for free. I then notice strange amounts of money missing in my account followed by a call from them about a massage. THEY CHARGED ME FOR 3 MONTHS AFTER I CANCELLED. even thought their policy states that a doctors note you will not be charged again. They are "looking into it" and I had to call my lawyer and bank to dispute it.
Massage Envy is owned and run by some of the most corrupt people in the world. NEVER NEVER NEVER go there!
I am having the same issue, was told by my Doctor not to go, and had them fax a statement, and they still charged me on my debit card. I am told the Manager is on vacation, and the Asst. Manager isn't in until Two days? I don't think this company realizes that they are losing more business by pulling these stunts. I have forewarned at least 12 associates to stay away from them...
fraud, misrepresentation, bad service
WARNING! STAY AWAY FROM MASSAGE ENVY! I was concerned about a committment given my busy schedule. The company's representative told me that the one-year committment was not enforced at her location and that 30 days notice was all that was required to get out of the contract (I would not be surprised if these folks are on some sort of commision and do not know how serious it is to fraudally induce someone for monetary gain). After being charged monthly while not being able to schedule massages due to the location's high volume of business and lack of open appointments, I gave my 30 days notice. The manager informed me that I was locked in for a year and that there is no way one of her employees would tell me that I could terminate with proper notice. She was rude and offensive. I decided to not challenge them because the whole point, after all, was to achieve relaxation and relieve stress. Well my problems with them have continued--double booking appointments, etc. Recently, sometthing happpened that was the last straw--something I cannot condone. I had voiced my disagreement over another scheduling snafu with the Manager and she told me "tough luck, " I was so mad that I informed that I was an attorney, if I had to that I would sue her. At that point, she told me that she and her employees would knowingly fabricate false testimony to aid there defense. I do not want to get into specifics here in the event that I do file suit, but it was an outright jaw-dropper. When I complained furhter up the chain of command at ME Corporate, I was met with the same attitude--"ME is always correct... the customer is always wrong... we do not believe you...no we are not refunding your money under any circumstances... tough luck" Who is training these people on customer service? Unbelievable--stay away. I will be telling everyone I know what these people are about.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
IF you are an attorney you would know the importance of reviewing a contract. IF you had read your contract you would have known you were committing to a "term" membership. if you can't assume any responsibility there, it's likely your allegations are entirely fraudulent. you are not trustworthy. a contract is black and white and really cannot be disputed. you cannot claim the manager does not abide by terms of a contract, allowing you to get cancel at any time otherwise why would you be asked to sign it in the first place, and why would you even do so? assume some responsiblity here. passing the blame is so unattractive.
Again..please do not trash all Massage Envy franchises becuase of a problem with one idividually owned clinc..your issue is with them not all the others. Please be specific about wich Massage envy it is and stop trashing the other 680 location nationwide because of your issue with one..take it up with them and demand some resolution..if you don't get it contact Massage Envy LLC at www.massageEnvy.com
It's Ok to voice your compaints but please be reasonable and specific about who and where your compaining about.
incompetent
I became a member a few months ago and have had nothing but problems, and I am completely fed up. I receive Massage Envy gift cards about once a year, always for an hour long massage+tip. The last time I used one, I ended up joining and have regretted it ever since. I was given a gift card back and told there was still money on it, but when I tried to use it on my following visit, I was told there was nothing on it and I must have been given the wrong card back. I was not offered any compensation for that lost money. After thinking about this, I called and checked to see how much was charged to previous gift cards and found that quite a bit of money had been left on every one, yet I was never told this, nor was any of it ever credited to my account. I had to talk to several different people for them to even begin tracking the money down. They finally did, and it was nearly $80 that I had been swindled out of. They gave some excuse about the gift cards being bought at a different location so they didn't have the information in their computer system. Umm...wasn't that supposed to be a huge "perk" of joining Massage Envy? Being able to go to all these locations nationwide and them having my information stored? It isn't. I've been to a Houston location and it was the biggest ordeal to even find my information in the computer system. They don't seem to be linked at all, and there is nothing convenient about these different locations.
Right after I joined, I had to cancel my debit card due to fraudulent charges being made on it. That very same I day I went to my Massage Envy location in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to inform them of this because I knew I was due to be charged for my monthly bill in a few days. I explained the situation and arranged for them to delete the current card information and to change my charge date. I then made an appointment for the following week in order to bring them my new card information after I received it. Upon showing up for said appointment, I was asked in a hushed tone if I received a call because my card was declined when it was run. Well, duh, yes. I explained this all to these same people before. I went through the whole scenario again, and gave them the new card information. Problem solved, right? Apparently not. I just received a final notice saying that I was behind on payments because my card kept getting denied every month and that I was being reported to the Credit Bureau. I never received a first notice. If there was a problem with my card, why was I never called? Pretty sure they have my phone number on file. No attempt was made to contact me. They were still charging the canceled debit card. I am so incredibly furious. I have explained the situation and given them new card information twice. I called them immediately and went over everything again for a third time. This is ridiculous. This is the most shoddily run business I have ever dealt with in my life. Oh, and apparently the appropriate measure for them reporting me to the Credit Bureau and destroying my credit due to their incompetencies is to give me a free half hour massage. Yea, that will help me out. I never want to step foot in a Massage Envy again. I have reported them to the Better Business Bureau, and I highly recommend everyone else doing the same. I want nothing more to do with this company.
my ex girlfriend works at the altamonte springs location and said the same issues go on regularly with every client. Its a scam to get you frustrated in trying to cancel or get refund. No one will call you back ever. They say they cannot cancel when they can. They tell you they cancel then dont. Its the wait you out game so you will give up. They are franchised but sounds like a corporate game to me. She gave me so many stories especially one where the womans son died and they still did not refund the money. Its hard sell on contracts and they will tell you its easy to cancel but if you dont after 3 days you never will have any luck. they work on commision and they will be fired if they do no thit 15% attach rate. they get 850 and hour plus a tier bonus for 15% and so on according to their memberships. thats why its hard to get out once you sign it. thats why you dont get all the info up front. thats why you shouldnt give your credit card number as you will never be able to get out of the contract. if you move somewhere where there isnt a massage envy within a 25 mile radius you can opt out. and rates arent honored in other areas of the country of what you signed up in. plus if you miss your appointment and dont cancel youre charged. again your credit card will be charged.
got fired for no reason
I would first like to say how much of a sham this place is. I saw a job listing for this place on the internet and since I needed a second job to pay my bills I thought I would apply. The day I dropped the application off I spoke with the hiring person. She seemed nice in the completely drugged out sort of way. A couple of days later I got a phone call and...

Potential clients should know:
Advertised prices don't include the extra fees. You won't get a massage for $39.. They TELL you a monthly contract is $39 a month, but it you look at the various signs, 6 months is $296 + fees.
You don't need a membership. They will give you "Preferred Client" rates, that are lower than walk-in prices. In some cases, they will continue to give you membership rates if they think it will get you to renew, HOWEVER, don't forget, the added fees takes you right up to the higher price.
If you walk-in, you will be paying the same prices or higher than any other place in town.
You will be encouraged to "save money" on your membership by having 1.5 hours massages. That's simply to get you to burn up your membership faster, so you are buying another in 4 months instead of 6, and then of course buying 3 a year instead of 2. They pressure you after a massage when you are vunerable to sign and cancel later within 3 days, hoping you'll forget.
You will be asked if you would like to add a tip (before the service) that may or may not get to the therapist. Cash in the room envelopes is the only sure way you money goes where it's intended. The therapist may or may not be paid for your massage, or other things.
The emphasis is on making a sale. They know you aren't likely to renew. They want the cash up front as fast as they can generate it, no renewable business.
You are unlikely to establish a long time relationship with a therapist for best health practices, as the owner is afraid you will follow that therapist into another practice, so you will be refused a request for your therapist.
While not actually pimping the therapists, the owners does promote MTs to potential clients based on how they look, their age, their size.
Not one front person, the owner or the CA are trained in massage. Don't bother to tell them what's wrong and hope for proper MT placement. Their responsibility is to fil the schedule and sell memberships.
Terrible business practices. I am so disappointed with how they treated me...see Massage Lady's other inside scoop on this particular place. I feel there is nothing I can do...but never go back.

you really don't know what you're talking about. 1) i was a "ca" and am a licensed massage therapist. you don't need to be a massage therapist to manage a massage clinic any more than you need to be a doctor to manage a doctor's office. what "fees" are you talking about? the massage membership is $49, not $39. the "membership" includes "dues." think about a membership at a book club. you may pay certain dues to get books at a discounted rate. the "preferred" client rate is only valid for 60 days. i don't know where you live, but a $49 massage each month is a great deal. most massage places charge $50-100 or more for a massage. massage envy gives you a discount because your committing to a longer term. they pass along a discounted rate to you because you're committing to using their services frequently. also, IF you ever read your "contract" you'll find that after you've completed your "term" of 6 or 12 months you can cancel at any time. they're not going to give you money back for unused massages any more than not a gym will give you money back if you've not used the gym. quit complaining. read your contract. assume some responsibility.
inside information
I worked at ME for approximately 6 months. Aside from all the illegal work requirements for employees, the health and safety of clients is a joke. Potential client should know this. The office I worked in regularly has water running under the doors and the carpet is naturally mildewed and moldy. A health hazzard for everyone, employee or client. In June...

Massage Envy is the worst!
First of all, if you make an appointment BEFORE your monthly charge is taken, they conveniently "forget" to let you know that you have the option of taking your monthly charge early vs. incurring a charge at the time of service, as well as the std. monthly charge. Thus paying for two services in a given month. This has happened to us at least twice.
Second, after breaking my left leg and bones in my right foot which required surgery, I called to see what my options were as far as freezing or cancelling my account. I spoke to a really nice clerk who discussed with me that I simply needed to fill out an "account freeze" form and fax back ASAP in order not to incur a charge for July. I did all of that and indicated on my form that I had two broken legs and that I was freezing only my service, not my husbands.
Imagine my surprise when another clerk called back and seemed to be "confused" by why I needed to freeze my account. Duh! While I was trying to ask questions and see whether the information provided by the other clerk was correct, she kept interrupting me and saying that she didn't know who faxed me that form or who told me what. In addition, she indicated she was "confused" by the information I had put on the freeze form. As I was trying to figure out my options, she kept interrupting me. I asked her several times to let me finish speaking. But, she kept interruping me. Since I've had numerous issues with this particular clerk, I finally said I should just cancel my entire account. She then hung up on me. I then tried calling back and kept getting the voice mail. So, I kept calling and finally got the same clerk again. She then told me that in order to cancel, I would need a written note from my doctor. Can you imagine? As she said, "yes, we need a written notice from your doctor that you can't have massage due to your foot." Duh! I broke bones in both legs. I'm not weight bearing on both legs for 4 weeks so I'm not sure how I would even get to the facility. To prove my point, I sent the attached picture.
I also asked for a number for corporate and of course, none was available. But, by going to this website, I found a number for Richard Adams - [protected]. And, I knew corporate was out of Phoenix, AZ.
In addition, if you cancel, you only have 30 days to use the credits that occur because of the above situation. And, if you freeze your account and then cancel, you have to give 30 days notice so you occur a charge and then have to use all credits within a 30 day period (again, two charges).
Thank goodness I had been a member for more than 6 months or my options would have been worse.

Been trying to cancel for months - you have to come in & fill out paperwork, then the manager will call you back to review your request. Shocker, the manager never calls you back. I have emailed & faxed a letter requesting cancellation - still getting billed.

locked into contract without knowlege
My sister and I was locked into a contract w/o my knowlege..after speaking with several managers and even the manager that signed us up for the service the issue has still not been resolved. The manager that signed us up has since been terminated for signing up several members w/o telling them of the contract and how long they were locked in. So if the...

My husband and I had a bad experience at the Massage Envy in Naperville, Illinois on Rt.59 and 95th street. I've had many massages in the past at Asha spa, it's an Aveda based spa and they were great. This was our first time visiting Massage Envy. They didn't give us the full hour because of the paperwork, wish they told us to come early to fill that out. The therapist, Jaclyn was horrible. She used too much pressure. At one point I told her, "that hurts" and she said ok, but didn't alter the pressure at all. I woke up today with a very sore back, this has never happened before. I'm a little concerned about it, I have to take Motrin to alleve the pain. I really hope this goes away soon. She was really young and might not have much experience. It's a chop shop, we'll never go there again. When you have a good experience you tell a couple people, when you have a bad experience you tell 50.
Messageenvyfan99...Your a fan of this Crap shoot company because I am sure you work there..How sad for you...You tell me how a message envy continues to charge me after I sent a letter, doctors note, emails, phone calls and a discharge letter from the hospital Stating that I am too sick to recieve message! The heartless ### continue to charge me.. You must be so proud to work at such a ethical company..
maybe if you actually would have come in early it wouldnt have cut into your time. They do have other appt.s you know and can't always bend backwards for everyone. Where can you go and be late for an appt. and not get charged and even get seen at all? And if she was too deep you could have asked to end the session and been refunded. Everything bad in this situation could have been avoided.
good luck ever getting out of this without getting ripped off!
I made the mistake of signing up for a year membership with this scam. I thought it would be nice way to relieve some stress once a month and the price seemed like a great deal. However, it has turned into more of a cause of stress than anything else. Nothing against the massage therapists there, the problem is with their corporate policies.
First, they told me I could use my Flexible Spending account to pay for them, which I can, but not without sending in documentation, which I have to go to their location to get, still ok...but I got behind on submitting the paperwork and my Flexible Spending card was frozen so they couldn't put any more charges on it and neither could I until I got everything turned in. AND, even though I had several PREPAID massages to use, I couldn't use them until they could charge my card for MORE massages which I didn't find out until I went in for a massage and was told I would have to pay outright for it, even though I had already prepaid for several massages that I hadn't used yet. Once I got the paperwork submitted and could use my Flex card again, they charged another 3-4 massages on it all at once, so now even though I've gone a couple of times, I still have 7 prepaid massages to use. I have more than completed my original year contract and it seems ridiculous to continue to use my Flexible Spending money on yet more massages, so I asked if they could please stop charging more until I could get "caught up". It still costs another $15-$20 for tip everytime I go. I was told they could freeze my membership, but then I wouldn't be able to use the massages I had already paid for! For an additional $10 per prepaid, I could convert them to gift cards, but after reading other complaints on here, that would be another mistake.
THIS PLACE IS A SCAM! If I can ever find a way to get out of it, I will never go back! I may just have to cut my losses and chalk it up to stupid tax! Too bad they had to screw up what could have been a nice concept by ripping off their customers. You shouldn't have to continue to buy more in order to use what you've already paid for.
This company is nothing but a rip off! I went the day before my wedding to have a massage and was talked into getting a membership that was supposed to cost me $49 each month. Well it cost me $63 a month and was told when I wanted to cancel that I was locked in for a year. Ok so I did not read the very fine print! Now a year has past and I cancelled, now they tell me I still am going to be charged another month since it states in the contract once again in extrememly small fine print that I have to cancel thirty days before and if I use any of my massages that I already paid for they will charge me again for a monthly fee! They owe me 5 prepaid massages which they say if I do not pay that months charge I cannot have! So that would mean they owe me 6 prepaid massages. What a scam they have going! DO NOT SIGN UP WITH THIS COMPANY. Once you are locked in you will either lose money on the monthly fee or your prepaid massages!
They also got me good! They lied every inch of the way! Read my ripped off comment! They now tell me that this is like a gym membership if you do not pay for the month you no longer have any access to any prepaid massages you are still owed! Scammers if I have ever seen any!
deceptive trade practices
I visited Massage Envy on Saturday, June 5, 2010 to inquire about services and pricing. While there only a few seconds in walked an extremely angry woman. She kept complaining that Massage Envy promised to not bill her credit card but did. She firmly reminded the guy on staff there of what was confirmed. She then asked for the manager who I do not recall every appearing. In fact, the guy taking her verbal outrage merely wrote a number for her to call. The woman got no where and eventually stormed out.
Well, on Sunday, June 6, 2010 it was my 1:00 p.m. appointment at the same Massage Envy and I arrived 10 minutes before my 1:00 p.m. as requested by Ben who set this appointment once I said 12:30 p.m. would not work because of my church service. But upon my arrival Ben said my appointment was 12;30 p.m. I reminded him that I wrote 1:00 p.m. on my card. He had someone named Joe take me into one of the massage rooms but said it would only be an hour rather than 90 minutes. Cool as long as I am not billed for services I will not receive. Joe informed me that he could only give 60 minutes because he had been waiting for me since 12;30 p.m. I informed Joe he needed to include Ben in our conversation. Ben joined us up front saying that he would have to charge my credit card for 90 minutes whether or not I had service because I did not arrive for 12:30 p.m. I said I understood why the woman in Massage Envy yesterday was cursing and screaming. I do not have to go that route but told Ben that I was not going to pay for services not rendered. Ben concluded that no other openings that day for 90 minutes so the next available is Monday, June 7, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. I suggested to Ben that he uses those appointment cards on his counter to avoid his confusion about the customer's confirmed appointment. I announced, as I took yet another card and wrote the new appointment, to all staff and other customers present my new appointment; that no additional charges would be charged and that I would be present. Ben handed me a form to complete that he said I should return completed because it is more of a survey. I told Ben that I was there for massage therapy, not to write a dissertation. I took form with me and left.
Beware of Massage Envy, Massage Heights and any chain massage spa because they will get you with all types of games and deception. I plan to return to small, independently owned and operated massage therapy specialists. They do not deceive but provide quality service without the hassles and tricks to rip you off.

very poor massage
The worst qualified massage therapist ever. Untrained in muscular skeletal system with no understanding of disc bulge or degenerative disks. I am pursuing legal action as the pain inflicted has not gone away yet.
I have been a massage therapist for 15 years. I taught massage for four years. What do you expect when you get a super cheap treatment? Did you think that you would get the cream of the crop? You get what you pay for in every business and service. Most of these franchises employ new graduates who have little or no experience. To top it all off now tech schools offer massage courses and the graduates may not be the top of the line. Want a good treatment? Find someone who is experienced, trained and professional! By the way...that treatment will cost you more than $39 or $49 per hour. Also, what do you think the therapist gets paid...maybe $15 if they are lucky. Some therapists are doing 8 or 9 treatments a day! It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out the end results. A sole practitioner who is trained in such therapies as myofascial release or many other adjunct therapies know their stuff and would not injure you!
As a highly trained therapist who is now having to find work in an already crowded field, I have to take a job at an envy francaise(something I swore I'd never do). From an onslaught of rnerapists, to a money hungry owner who claims thesees places are to take
massage away from "Elite's", its no wonder. Theraists are forced to work on clients who perhaps should be seeking out privaye help and not expecting medical attention at discount pricez. I have prpblems with that as well as people not thinking about what therapists are making. We get a tiny % and sd ome folks tip $5 for a 90 minute massage.
That is very sad to hear about your situation. Some states don't have regulations over their therapists like others. Find a therapist who does Cranio Sacral Therapy. Maybe a PT or Osteopath would be a good bet there.
refusal to cancel membership
I had a hot stone therapy treatment, and signed up for a membership on the day of the massage. The sale rep did not make it in any way clear that it was a 12 month contract, and lead me to believe it was month to month. About an hour after the massage I started experiencing pain due to a rib being put out of alignment during the massage. My chiropractor was able to correct the problem, but only after I spent the weekend in excruciating pain.
I called 5 days after the massage and asked to cancel my membership which had not yet begun (nothing had ever been billed), and was told I needed to provide a letter from my chiropractor. I did just that, faxing a letter stating that any further treatment would aggravate the area. They still refused to cancel my membership. I am in the process of speaking with someone at the corporate offices [protected]. I have lodged a complaint with the better business bureau in my area as well.
I strongly recommend staying away from this company.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I'm just wondering why no one reads the membership contract that you must sign before you purchase a membership. I understand all the frustration, I would probably be frustrated myself, but I would not trust some 18 year old girl at a front desk to sell & have me sign a document without reading it.
I just won my small claims against massage envy----If anybody needs any help let me know
If you are interested in a class action against the Franchise let me know-----I am hearing more and more horror stories

If there is a class action against massage envy, I need to be included (as well as my bff)! They do not manage accounts correctly which lead to uncharged membership only to get a call from them months later with a huge outstanding bill amount threatening collections on services NOT RENDERED! This company is a RIP OFF!
GOOGLE MASSAGE ENVY CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING NOW. INITIATOR OF THE CLASS ACTION SUIT IS A MEMBER OF THIS SITE. CONTACT EACH OTHER AND LETS GET OUR MONEY BACK.
I am in full agreement. I have been abused by this pitiful company. I qould like to participate in filing against them. I also wish I had a way of getting in contact with any South Floridians who would like to protest in front of a Massage Envy.
i am interested in knowing what type of help, us the scammed customers can get, this company is pretty much getting your money with no way out. this is a no win game apparently. they told me today that they charge me twice because last month my card declined, which is not true because i work for the bank and no transaction went thru. and now, that i dont have enough funds, it went thru causing me an overdraft in my accoutn. i am really pissed off, by the customer service i received and the sarcasm on why i would not be able to get rid of them.. i want action, i want resolution, and if i can help with any info please contact me.
Barry,
I am interested in this. They continued to charge monthly dues after what I thought was a one year membership. The desk person on the phone explained that I initialed a statement which continues to allow them to charge my card on a month to month basis now. I was also told I could not cancel over the phone, that I had to come in an do it in writing and that I would have to give 30 days notice. My card expired two months ago so they've no longer been able to charge it, but they are threatening to send me to collections if I don't "come current." Also, I can't use the massages I already paid for because my account is suspended. I don't even want to use them now, I am so pissed. I am looking for my contract now.
I am filing a class action lawsuit against massage envy-----Right now we are collecting individuals that want to participate. If you are a massage therapist, front office worker, or client and you can substantiate that you were treated incorrectly get back to me and I will send the info to the law firm that has taken on this case
Best Wishes Barry

I was told that to cancel all I had to do was to come in and sign a letter. Well today I was informed that I needed a Rx note. I have a right to privacy when it comes to my medical records. They won't let me cancel! I am turning them in to the BBB and filing a complaint with the Attorney General's office in Texas. I think we need to consider a class action lawsuit.
discriminatory appointment cancellation
I am a member in good standing with the Massage Envy franchise allowing me to use any Massage Envy clinic throughout the country. Most of my massages have been provided locally at Manchester, NH and all has gone very well until recently.
I had a problem trying to book an appointment at my local Massage Envy in Manchester, NH. The receptionist had instructions from the owner, Michelle Willette, not to book any appointments for me and only "Michelle" could provide that answer. I asked her to contact Michelle Willette and get authorization for my continued use of the facility and to call me right back. By 9pm that evening I realized I never received a return phone call so I called them. They claimed to have not been able to reach her all day. I asked to schedule an appointment and I got one for 8 days away.
Well, I waited patiently for 8 days and on the day of the appointment I received a call from a receptionist canceling my appointment without any explanation. I wanted an explanation but I didn't get one. The conversation led me to believe that it would happen again so I chose not to re-book.
I have never been given the reason why she chooses to not honor my Massage Envy membership contract. If there is a legitimate reason, no one has ever told me what it is. I think I would have received correspondence from Michelle or Massage Envy Headquarters if their was a legitimate reason for refusing me service and that has not happened.
Michelle. Please read the "Hippa" laws. You may want to take down that post before your former client sues you and the franchise for breach of confidentiality. Outing the name of a client (whether past or present) especially on a public forum such as this, is beyond illegal, and it is just an 1 of the hundreds of examples of why "massage envy" has such a horrible reputation (especially for horrid professionalism) If you have "zero tolereance for anything inapproriate" then maybe you should practice what you preach. You and "massage envy" give us (the legit and qualified LMT's) a bad rap.
The client in good standing took it upon himself to proposition one of my Massage Therapist during his massge asking him to give him her cell phone number and come to his house for private sessions. Being that my therapist is not even 21 years old and he has more than passed the age of 40 I felt it needed immediate attention. After my therapist reported being extremly upset and requesting to never be booked with him again and put it all in writing I decided that he should not be booked with any of our therapists. His actions are very unprofessional for someone who owns a business such as Halle Oil. I hope that answers your questions Mr Mark Halle. We are a professional business with zero tolerance for anything inappropriate.
nail marking on my neck
I received a massage on March 26, 2010 at the Aventura, Florida location of massage envy. I repeatedly felt scratching on my neck and asked the masseuse to remove her rings. She stated that she did not have any rings on. I again told her that something was scratching and she replied that maybe I was not used to getting a deep massage. I regularly receive deep tissue massages at my Massage Envy location in California. Upon leaving the facility, I complained to the front desk staff and the reply I got was "We will note this in your file." Three days later while on a cruise to the Bahamas, I noticed scratch marks on the side of my neck. I called the facility to complain on Monday, March 29th and I was told "all complaints have to be directed to our corporate office." When I called the corporate office, I was directed several time to the voicemail of a woman, who never returned my calls, after I left several messages. It is now May 13th. I never received any follow-up to my complaint.
I used te service yesterday and I can barely move today. My entire back is sore. The therapist asked me which area he should work. BIG MISTAKE. I told him my back. I don't think the guy have an idea of what a massage is. The was the most torture moment and I complained to everybody and ZERO respond back. The only offer I got was 10 percent discount next time... Hell no! This place is sucks! No worth it.
You get what you pay for...most of these franchises use brand new graduates and pay them very little. Do you want a great massage all the time? Utilize a sole practitioner who has been an established business.
I escaped an assault by one of the therapist at this facility
I escaped an assault by one of the therapist at this facility. Massage Envy has taken no responsibility.
I was assaulted also at a Massage Envy in New Jersey. I filed a complaint with the company. The employeee is still working. They told me they would terminate him.
wont' let me out of my contract
I went into the store with a friend of mine for a first time massage with them. The massage was very good, I was so relaxed. When I went to leave, the sales person tried to sell me a massage package. When I asked her to explain it to me, she told that me I could get the next massages at a reduced rate, so I signed up for 6-month package. I was very, very clear with the sales person that I would not do it if they were going to gake money out of my account, or charge me in advance. She told me flat out, "NO, we won't take money out of your accout, or charge you ahead of time."
GUESS WHAT? THEY LIED! When I called them to find out what happened, they told me that I had signed a contract and I could not get a refund or get a cancellation from the contract. I called them three times, they never got back to me, so I went into the store, and they said the same thing to me. "No, you signed a contract".
NOW I'M FURIOUS...I will never walk into that store again, and I will tell all of my friends they are liars and cheaters.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I totally agree with you. Don't be discouraged by the comment sent to you by "You People" because they are posting negative comments on every site I visit. They are probably being paid by Massage Envy. The fact that thousands maybe millions of people are complaining about the same problem is a clear indication that something fraudulent is happening at Massage envy. PLEASE READ my posting on Jan.22, 2011 MASSAGE ENVY PROTEST MARCH. We can't win the battle if no one wants to fight! Good Luck!
Don't sign up for things you can't afford. It's your own fault and now you have to deal with it, life isn't always a bowl of cherries. It's sad that you are going to blame everyone else but yourself for getting into debt. Maybe you should keep track of your bills.
I totally agree! I received a letter that stated they were going to turn me over to a collection service because the funds were not available from my account. I wanted to cancel service because during this time, I am going through some financial stresses. So instead of notifying me they took a huge lump of money from my account and when confronted they said the usual, "you signed a contract giving us permisson to take funds from your account." I told Jessica from the Rancho San Diego location it is to be $50.00 a month not over $250.00 and I want my funds returned to my account.
Then when going for the message I always felt pressured to provide a tip, so I just stopped going, because sometimes I don't have funds for a tip.
This place is a scam and rip off artist; I DO NOT RECOMMEND MESSAGE ENVY TO ANYONE! AND DON'T SIGN THE CONTRACT, GET A LAWYER TO LOOK AT IT!
Not Sincerely,
A. O. Stuart
this place is a scam... beware of additional &fees& after the massage!!
I really never nor do I like to complain about individuals however, today I had a hot stone massage and was very upset when I left. When I phoned to schedule my appointment I told the woman that I had a gift certificate which included the massage, gratuity and tip. This was a gift I received from my husband for my birthday. I have had a few massages in the...

I totally agree with you. This is fraud and I plan on fighting this all the way. We are organizing a protest march in front of as many of their franchises next Saturday. They are going to work for the money they stole. PLEASE READ my posting on Jan. 22, 2011 MASSAGE ENVY PROTEST MARCH. Good Luck to you!
I did read my contract. I gave them 30 days written notice almost 2 years AFTER the initial lock in period. Both in the written notice and over the phone I told them I had not used any services not paid for and my membership dues were up to date so there was no membership fees owed. They still charged me for another month because I did not use their form to provide written notice - a form not required by the contract.
read your contract. you are NOT "stuck for another cycle." when your initial term completes you can cancel at any time. you probably didn't read that, either.
