manager
Good evening,
May 8th around 5:48pm I walked into the Mavis located at
110 East Sunrise Hwy, Lindenhurst, NY 11757.
The manager on that shift greeted me and I asked if there was time for an inspection. He told me they were closing in 10 minutes and it was an hour long process. So I told him it's no problem and that I understood they are closing. I walked out and the manager followed. I did not get his name but he is a white male with long hair and tattoos. He asked me why I thought it shouldn't take an hour so I responded that you are closing and I am not trying to be a [censored] I was just leaving. He proceeded to tell me I was being a [censored] and I came there thinking I'm cool and acting tough. I laughed and said excuse me are you a manager? He replied yes and I told him he was really professional. I am not sure if this person has medical issues but I was angry at this point and noticed him being very figgity and irate so I asked him if he was on drugs. I work in the heavy materials service industry. I take care of customers who are multi billion dollar corporations. If i ever even acted with a 16th of this employees professionalism I would be fired immediately and probably would not be able to find another job in my field. I know one thing for sure is that I will never purchase anything from any Mavis again and if these are the employee's you have representing your company that is extremely disheartening.
Regards
flanders, new jersey mavis misleading customers
Wrong break pads (photo)put on and they told my that they cannot get new front strut and spring because my car was Japanese. I think he meant Korean. I went to Hayundi and they told me I had a North American car. Vin numbers on Korean Cars start with a K. They also did not install my wheel center hub right. I lost it soon after. Just spoke to Adam again at Flanders today May 4th, 2018 at 8:50AM and told him my car is a American made vehicle and he told me he can only get them from Texas 3 days out. I told him he's losing credibility with me and his attitude changed, listen to my call for quality Control purposes right? There are 100, s of thousands of Elantras on the road and this Mavis cannot get me front struts and springs. Do I trust them now to do the job properly? He'll no. Glenn Mathus [protected]

DO NOT GO HERE ! I work at Nutrisysytem literally around the corner form this place. On 5/1/2018 I was getting off of work at about 2:30pm and discovered that my car would not start. I had no choice than to call a tow truck and seeing as though this place was close and I've been here before for an oil change and a tire I figured why not. BIG MISTAKE. When I got there they asked what happened and I told them it wouldn't start. I told them I attempted to jump it and - NOTHING. Anyway, I was told they were swamped & couldn't take my car that day but if I left it with them they would get to it first thing in the morning. I said fine, called an Uber and I left. Next day 5/2 around 11:00am I get a call with their findings. They said the starter was bad and that it shorted out my battery and those two things combined with labor would run me $680. Caught between a rock and a hard place I obliged and told them to go ahead with the repairs. At 2:30pm I get a call saying my car is all done. I work across the road so I got there at 2:40pm, paid and got my keys. I get in the car and start it up and it starts, something told me to turn it off and try it again and what do you know - IT DIDN'T START. At this point I'm PISSED. I go back into the store and tell them. The guy Mike comes out gets behind the wheel as if he's about to do something other than what I just did and proceeds to keep turning the key as if the was going to magically start. All he kept saying was "hmm that's weird" then he says "ohhh the part must've been defective" like that's what I want to hear after 2 days and $680 later. He then tells me he needs another starter and it won't be in today and I should come back tomorrow so at this point I am pissed because not only did I have to uber home on 5/1, Uber to work 5/2 then have to Uber home - AGAIN ! and I live in East Oak Lane ! That's not a cheap trip. On today, 5/3 I awaited the call from Mike to let me know if the starter came, or if / when they were starting and NOTHING. I had to call them around 1:40pm before I got off of work and ask about my car. I didn't get a straight answer instead I got a "their gonna get to it" I got mad and told him about the Uber situation and that I needed to know when it's going to be done because I can't leave Horsham, go to East Oak Lane and come back and I won't. He cuts me off and says it'll be done by end of day and hung up ! I said screw that went up there after work around 2:30pm. I get there and my car is sitting in the parking lot, and there is 4-5 other cars being worked on in the hub. I go in and ask what's up and ask why is it that my car wasn't first priority today and Mike had nothing to say except "the new starter just came" rightttt. Anyway he says they didn't put it in yet because they're trying to figure out what's shorting the starter. You'd think that would've been done before they stuck a starter in there and took my $680 right ? I asked Mike would I be reimbursed or get some kind of discount for the inconvenience and he told me NO that he could do nothing for me. After getting the run around and going back and forth with Mike I demanded my money back ASAP. I couldn't stand the nonchalant attitudes and lack of respect for my time and money. I got my money back and called another tow company to get my car as far away from that place as possible. Even still throughout the whole ordeal I NEVER received one damn apology. So now not only am I out of money from both tows but I'm also out of Uber fares that they could've had the decency to reimburse me for. Oh, wait here's the kicker ! Oh I didn't tell you guys they called me before it was ready yesterday 5/2 and told me that my oil filter was crushed up and needed to be replaced and I need an oil change. Then said the oil filter was the brand FRAM and that they don't use those I said that's funny because the last person to do my oil change was you guys back in February and it's not due for another one yet. I then said if it's a FRAM oil filter that means that's the same one my dad put in there back in October ! Which means y'all didn't change it at all when I came in for my oil change ! He got quiet and said "hmmm that's what it looks like but "I don't know". Then when I get there tells me he went ahead and changed it out like he did me a favor ! Can you believe that ?! Like I said - STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE ! THEY ARE CROOKS.
terrible customer service by basking ridge nj mavis, specifically from rick
I had some fuel pump work done at the Basking Ridge Mavis on 545 Martinsville Road in February of this year. A few days later my gas gauge only would go up to 3/4 tank, then a few weeks later my gas tank capacity changed. At half tank my car would take $25-30 dollars to fill, now at 1/2 tank it would spit out gas after $15 only. I haven't been able to fill my gas tank since then.
I travel a lot so I couldn't go back to Mavis in Basking Ridge right away, but took my car in for a regular oil change to another mechanic and explained the gas gauge and gas tank issue. He said that I may need a new fuel pump. However, I explained to him that I had just gotten a new one in February. He recommended I go back to Mavis where I got the fuel pump, to see if there is an issue with it (faulty, etc.).
I called Mavis last week since I finally was able to get back to the Basking Ridge area, and was told to bring it in to check fuel pump. However, since it may take a couple days to check the fuel pump and other related issues, he recommended I come in on Sunday and leave the car until Monday evening, if necessary. Also, he said Sundays are a little slower and it may give mechanic more time to check it. He said he would note that on the computer.
I showed up Sunday morning first thing. Rick was registering everyone. I explained to him what was happening and that the person I spoke to last week said he made some notes on computer, expecting me to come. Rick informed me that he did not have a mechanic to help me, so he asked if I can come tomorrow (Monday-today) and asked for my name. I said okay, but that I had come because the job may take 2 days, and I would need the car back by Tuesday morning.
Rick said he couldn't tell me for sure since he had not checked the car. I returned first thing Monday morning early. Rick comes out and asks me what I needed. I explained to him again who I was and that he had asked me to come this morning. He then said to me, that we-Mavis don't fix gauges, plus we have a car in now and we will not be able to help you until later today or another day.
I informed him that I have been here twice, and both times he has told me he can't help me at this time. Since the job is one based on a previously serviced fuel pump, could it be that he did not want to service my car for something already paid for? Twice I have been told to come and twice Rick told me he couldn't help me.
I called the customer service number and left a message for regional manager explaining what had occurred. Then I get a call back about 1 hour or so later from Rick, telling me that since I made a call they were going to fit me in and they had gotten a special mechanic from another location to look at my car. For a moment, I thought, hmm maybe this is for real.
When I arrived the mechanic he said was there to check my car had been there before when he told me he couldn't help me, so he wasn't a special mechanic from another shop sent to check my car. So why the dishonesty? Rick also said that if it's not due to fuel pump the expensive rental car would be charged to me, if I needed it, since I needed a car for Tuesday morning. Rick said it would cost about $250 a day to rent a car. What?!
I informed him that if they fix my car by the end of the day, they don't have to pay for the rental, and neither do I. He seemed pleased with that compromise. I then said I would stay close and check with them in a few hours. I came back 4 hours later, they said they checked everything and couldn't figure out what was wrong.
Why don't I trust that? Rick had been dismissive and even told me they couldn't help me. Now, they checked everything in 4 hours and they could't figure what was wrong?
I will go to another mechanic and pay again, if necessary. However, if they determine the fuel pump or any of the work previously done by Mavis was the issue, I will return to Basking Ridge Mavis and will contact corporate. I have already contacted the BBB.
The dismissiveness and unwillingness by Rick to check my car, and the attitude Rick displayed, with no commitment for a correction if needed, is the reason people don't trust Mavis. Mavis has provided terrible customer service and follow up and check up to a previously done job.
nys inspection
Took to Mavis in Geece NY for inspection due to prior relationship for tire purchase; was told that brakes rotors and controller arm need to be fixed before inspection would pass. Oddly enough the car passed inspection last year with same controller arm defect. The controller arm was and issue and agreed to repair, however the brakes were not in need of replacement. My inspection was held hostage until I agreed to the more than 600 repairs. I have always gone to the same mechanic for brake work on my vehicles and he refused to replace brakes or rotors that were not at issue. Corporate offices will be contacted concerning the practices at this facility and I will also notify the BBB and NYS Attorney Generals office.
price of new tires
I just bought two tires at Mavis and was priced at about 64.00 per tire so I was thinking ya I got a good deal compared to getting the coopers tires at 100.00 each. At Mavis they failed to tell me I was being charged a mounting and balancing plus valve steams. Bringing me over 186.00 dollars for two tires this is unreal. Very unhappy not a satisfied customer. I wont ever be back and I been there a lot lately unless they can do something about this. I did not review yet till I hear back.
alternator change
On April 28 I took my us v to Mavis for a alternator change but what should have been a few hours of work took one month my car ended up at some other auto shop that wanted me to pay them 2800 hundred dollars for a new engine so I asked magi s to bring my car back and I'll take it to a Ford dealer to have the alternator out in they told me to call the auto shop and get it myself that's it's not they problem and try to have me arrest for trespassing I call the main office and they said but a mother car now I am taken the company to court
problems after service
On March 3, 2018 I brought my 2006 Honda Civic to Mavis at 384 Commack Road in Deer Park, New York. I had previously purchased four new tires at Mavis and felt confident getting brake service at Mavis. When service was completed within 2 days I noticed some fluid had accumulated on the ground near front right tire. When I started to drive the car I immediately knew something was wrong. I felt like I had no brakes at all. Living on Long Island New York we have dealt with four nor-easters in a 3 week period. I immediately went back to Mavis to inform them of problem. After the car was looked at I was informed that a bad part had to be replaced. I waited for the repair as this is the only car I own and have a full time job at a Babylon, New York law firm. Part was replaced and now brakes are functioning properly. Upon looking at the car the next day I noted that the rotors on both the front and rear tires appear to be rusted and the rims on the tires are now discolored. The service at Mavis was $688.73 which was applied to a Mavis Credit Card. I am not happy with the appearance of the rotors and rims of the car and would like your assistance to remedy my concerns. Thank you. Carol Allaire
unethical behavior
Calling Mavis Tire, I've found them to be rude when talking on the phone. If they think they've heard enough or don't wish to speak with you, they abruptly hang up!
This on any level is disrespectful, esp. if i'm giving them my money for services and doing business with them!
Rudeness from anyone at Mavis Tire is a reflection on the entire company! I've found when talking with almost people at Mavis Tire to be rude, curt, short, couldn't be bothered talking to you.
Doubt I'd do business with them again! Wouldn't recommend to others either! Owners Dave & Steve Sobrano way to bothered to speak with their customers!
oil change damaged my housing!
Brought my car with 35k miles for oil change, alignment, tires$700.00. Got home car was leaking oil heavily from top of engine around oil filter housing. Returned to have it checked out . mechanic said that it was leaking from oil filter housing and they took care of it . i drove 1/4 mile to gas station checked and it was leaking same as before. I returned a third time and was told to take it to dealer on warranty that mavis could not fix the issue. Dealership would not warranty work due to oil filter housing being tightened beyond the required tourqe spec. And cracked housing .Claims it was human error done by mavis tire and its common issue when tourqe wrench is not used . I took it to another mechanic and paid $630.00 to replace oil filter housing. I made a claim with better buisness bearuea which was never responded to by this mavis tire location upon multiple attempts and now will be public information for 3 years through the b.b.b. as ive been turned away from mavis tire Binghamton ny many times. I will persue every option on recovering the money and time spent on this matter. My next move is to seek legal counsel. I have been treated terrible by this buisness. No customer deserves this treatment when its obvious that mistakes were made . i was treated very un perfessional and ill spread the word to ensure anyone i know is not taken advantage of. As a buisness owner myself when a mistake is made you take responsibility for the issue caused by human error. Please help us resolve this matter . All i want is to have those responsible for the damage take responsibility and be reimbursed for the damage thanks for your time have a great day !
unprofessional, basic liars and thieves
Parents took car there to get speedometer repaired (my parents do not speak English and are elderly), a Michael got on the phone with me and explained the work for $460+ for the repair. The repair was not made and my parents were told to take it the dealer and he charged their credit card. This place is a scam and takes advantage of elderly immigrants who barely speak any English.
work completed that was not okay
On December 21st I went to Mavis and Johnstown New York. I was advised that I should get front brakes and rotors on my 2011 Chevy Silverado truck. I advise the manager that my husband does his own work because he also works in the garage and was only there for an oil change. Little did I know they completed the work anyway when he returned to the counter to cash me out I was still unaware that they had completed this work. I was Furious and told him that it should not have been completed. I should not have signed the bill for them to get paid I did not authorized them to do this work. My husband is furious and him and I will never go back to Mavis again. He gave me like $30 off but a $30 oil change turned into $205 job. I am definitely not happy and I'm thinking about calling the Better Business Bureau.
gas shocks
My daughter had $800.00 worth of work and the car is back in the shop. I have been waiting 2 hours and I had an appt. I should not have to wait that long since it was brought back in relating to work done from them!
Car is making lots of noise from the rear end, is uneasy at higher speeds and unsafe changing lanes... Not holding the road and was not like this before bringing the car in for 4 tires, alignment, and 2 shocks. Worried driving here.
They have 1 mechanic working here on a sunday, unprofessional... Not a way to treat customers. Unacceptable and will not have my business again or will be sure to spread the news. Thanks.. But no thanks for your service!
It was a loose shock absorber with a bolt not threaded in the bracket. Try checking your completed repair!
price and attitude
I was quoted a price over phone which i agreed on and made an appt. For the next day. After waiting for an hour. They took my car in and started pulling the front wheels i was there for 2 rear tires, not front. Then they didn't have the tires i was quoted just the night before. He said for 10.00 more per tire he could put a better tire on we agreed on 5 per tire. They quoted me 154.00 out the door so i took 155.00 along. Bill was 175.00? i had to borrow 20 from my friend and told me it was higher cuz of tax. [censor]. I will never go there again an im telling everyone i know and see to not go there thats called bait and switch. Unless they enjoy doing bad business. Ive lived in this town 48 years, that alot of bad publicity. Hope your happy.
business deceives customers and produces work that is unfinished and dangerous
On 02/08/2017 I brought my vehicle, a 2013 Honda CRV EX to the Mavis Discount Tire location in Byram NJ, 07874. I was originally in to replace one tire; however was told I was in need of four new tires. So, believing the attendant, I agreed to purchase four tires. Because I purchased four tires, I also needed an alignment and balance completed. I was not giving an option as to which tire I would like to purchase, level performance/price low, medium, high etc. After all was said and done I spend over 600 dollars. I left the Mavis location and my car was shaking terribly. This was not the case before replacing the tires or bringing it to Mavis for service. On 02/12/2018; I called the Mavis Discount Tire location in Wayne NJ to see if I could bring the car in to be checked because the shaking was getting worse and I did not feel safe to drive the vehicle as I commute on highway to work everyday. I was turned away, they were too busy to see me.
On 02/13/2018; I called again, the Mavis Discount Tire location in Wayne NJ to have the alignment and balanced rechecked. After providing my receipt to the manager behind the service desk (Chris) Wayne NJ location, [protected], he basically told me the tires the Byram, NJ location sold me are cheap/garbage tires and the shaking of the car is expected with this tire. No matter how many times the alignment or balanced is check the car will continue to shake due to the poor performance of these tires. I explained to him I was never given an option as to which tires I would like to purchase; as he was insinuating that it was my choice to buy a cheap tire. I explained once again, I was never given the option of which type of tire I would like to purchase.
The Wayne location finally agreed to perform another alignment and balance check on the car, however, now after having the car at a Mavis location for a third time, the car is still shaking. If the shake is truly being caused by such a poor performing tire, why would a company be selling these tires?
I was informed by a Manager of Mavis themselves that these tires are horrible. After spending over six hundred dollars, why would I not be giving the option of what tire I would like to purchase; to ensure my own safety.
I would like for resolution on this issue as my car is still shaking but I do not want to take it back to another Mavis for a fourth time as I assume they will make it worse once again. I would prefer the tires to be replaced, and with better quality tires to ensure alignment and to eliminate the shaking as to avoid future damage to the car.

deceit
I called Mavis and asked if they would honor Costco prices, the said yes. After my tires had been installed and I got the bill, the answer was NO. I had spoke to Andrew originally who assured me that they match prices, however, at the moment of truth Kevin who was on staff said Andrew was incorrect.
Making matters worse they printed my receipt incorrectly and they had the wrong model and year and printed it wrong twice causing me to have to pick up the paper work. Then of course the 2nd time was incorrect car - now have to go pick it up a third time.
They are a horrible organization and lied to me, staff is rude and dismissive as well as not being truthful
honesty and integrity
On New Bridge RD in Bergenfield, I counted and left 9 single dollar bills in console at drop off. Immediately checked & $5 were missing and when confronted the clerk, a $5 bill was quickly returned. As I was complaining, I was advised that he would take his money back. Remember, it's my money... Called Customer Service and was informed that the Regional Manager was to call. The store manager called to gather info and was supposed to call back before the end of day. I called back at end of day and Regional talked to me. Didn't take issue seriously since I got my money back. Shady people. Wish I seen these reviews.
Fish stinks at the head
brakes and struts
Davis just put on new calibers in the back and struts in my back. I was driving and suddenly my brakes went and lights was coming on and my front dashboard stating brakes Etc. I took it back it has been sitting for a day and a half and they didn't fix my struts as of yet. They told me the caliber was no good from their store. Meanwhile I'm driving around the mountains on 9W with no brakes. They still haven't done my struts as of yet. The store manager claims he has been waiting Ford and a half for apart. I've spent $3, 500 so far in that store in a year time. Please can you call them to find out what's going on in that department. My name is Wayne Hicks I can be reached at [protected]. Thank you so much
unprofessional, not properly trained and basic liars and thieves
Wife had a blow out on 1 of the 4 tires she purchased at the Patchogue NY store the tires were not balance correctly which she had to pay another shop to correct. Car was near the Centereach NY Mavis shop which she went to they took 2 hrs to tell her they couldn't fix and it would take 2 days to get the tire because no other store had it. I called and found the tire in 2 local shops (1st lie) they priced the repair to be $30 ish because of the insurance she bought and the tires being practically new. So she picked up the car and went to the other shop in Islandia NY which had 2 tires, they repaired the tire within the hour but the price was $74 compared to $30 ish. They said she had to take the insurance again and that the other store didn't measure the tire correctly
service
You guys are terrible. I bought both winter tires and all season tires with mavis last year and change them when the season changes. I have went went to three mavis tire locations (Irondequoit, west Webster, and Webster) and you guys are all terrible. Every time I go it takes too long to do the work. Doesn't matter which mavis I go to it's terrible. I didn't know it takes 3 hours to change tires and a battery. Thanks for wasting half my day. I will not be back to mavis and will be doing my car repairs elsewhere. And don't use the excuse of being busy there's no one here at the Webster location and only two other vehicle here. There is also 4, yes 4 employees just joking and standing there. The salesman Eli tries to sell me a brake job costing 500$ which is fine I do need new brakes. However if you guys expect me to come back to waste another afternoon watching you guys stand there and joke while I have to take a half day from work waiting for you guys do your job you guys are wrong.
