rude service
I'd like to share an incident at your Arcadia location last night. My friend had a major surgery on his leg a couple of weeks ago and is still wearing a cast. For his birthday, we went to dinner and planned to see a movie at your theaters in Arcadia. Since his leg is in a cast and has difficulty walking, we had selected the Arcadia mall because they offer valet service. We had a nice dinner and had left overs. Your horrible staff wouldn't allow us to enter the theater because we had a bag from the restaurant. We tried to explain the situation that the car was at the valet and my friend had difficulty walking. Instead of being given any understanding, your ticket taker made rude remarks. I've never been treated so rudely and will never frequent your theaters. I will be sharing this incident with my friends, family, and the members of my movie club and will encourage them to never frequent any of your venues. This incident occured last night, 8/28/10 at 7:10 in your Arcadia, California. The ticket taker was a young woman with brown hair and wore glasses. As a manager, I would be horrified if my employees ever treated customers so rudely and would fire the individual. Your company and your rude employee ruined a special evening and we will never forgive you!
stubs card/loyalty program
I am no longer an avid movie goer with the increasing costs associated with it. However my wife and I recently went to a local AMC theater to watch a new movie. When we purchased our tickets they asked if we had our "Stubs Card". We informed them that we did not have one. Then we made it to the concession counter. While I do know that the price of the product is extremely high, I also know that this is the only way a movie theater makes money since the ticket prices pretty much go to the production companies. The counter person again asked us if we had out "Stubs Card" and we replied again that we did not have one. The then asked if we wanted one and told us that we could save as much as $5 right then and there based on what we ordered, so I said sure and provided the information needed. The charge came close to $30 and just thinking that the prices are normally high I did not think anything of it until later. It was not until I got home and looked up the program that I realized there was a $12 annual charge for it. So rather than "saving" $5 it actually cost me an additional $7. Has the counter person stated there was a charge for the program I would have declined. Had it been advertised other than in the fine print, I would have declined. My belief is that AMC counts on people not looking at this and assuming that for the privilige of tracking your spending and preferences they would offer a true rewards program rather than actually charging you to allow them to track your movie going experiences. I do not go to the movies but once or twice a year so this "loyalty" or "Rewards" program is completely worthless to me.

priceing drinks
i went to see hangover two yesterday may 30th 2011 i wanted something to drink so i picked up two vita waters i was shocked when they told me $9.00 i brought one at walmart for $1.00 i think this is the biggest rip off ever i wont go there again $9.00 for to small drinks whos the ### at corporate that made this choice
This is fairly typical. I read somewhere that concessions create the majority of profits for movie theatres, but I'm not sure how valid that is.
employment
Let me just say, I have been working for AMC Theaters for the past 2 and a half years, and can honestly say that this is one of the worst employers out there. Let's start off with the salary.. A quarter over minimum wage (if that) after taxes. My entire tenure @ AMC Theaters, I have only made $7.50 an hour, no raise, bonuses, or holiday pay. The work...
Read full review of AMC Theatres and 22 commentscomplaint about a technical problem in theater 9, on feb 19th, 2011 at amc theaters 34th street
I went to see "I am Number Four" on Saturday, February 19th at AMC Theaters in 34th Street, shown in Theater 9 at 6pm. After the movie had started for approximately 30 minutes, the screen became blank at 6:45pm. We waited in the dark, with no information whatsoever on what was happening until the screen lit up again for 30 seconds at 6:50pm. Then the screen became blank again and we had to wait until 6:58pm for an employee to come. She gave us 3 choices: she told us we could either wait, or leave and get a refund at the guest services, or go exchange our tickets at the guest services to watch another movie. She also informed us that it had already happened before and that they had the situation under control.
While waiting for the movie to start again, and while the lights kept turning on and off annoyingly, a woman who came with her young children told me that she had tried to watch this movie 3 times at this theater and that every time there had been a technical problem. At 7:07pm the same people from the staff announced that the show would not go on. Given the 3 options, I therefore decided to exchange my ticket and watch the same movie in IMAX, which was scheduled at 7:30pm. I went to the guest services and got a "guest first pass" at 7:20pm and they told me to simply show it at the entrance of the IMAX theater. Unfortunately, the man standing there did not want to let me go in and said I had to exchange it for a valid ticket.
Therefore, I went down one more time to the guest services, waited in line, and finally stumbled upon another employee who told me that the "guest first pass" was expired (please find enclosed the photocopy) and that she could not exchange it for a valid ticket. I then had to go up again, and convince the man to let me in while I was not, I believe, at fault. He again refused, but luckily for me, two other people were also in the same situation; together, we had more weight and the man finally decided to let us in. Moreover, considering that almost half of the theater had decided to choose the same option as me, the IMAX theater was overcrowded and some people who actually paid for the ticket were unable to watch the movie.
I understand that these kind of technical problems occur from time to time and that you cannot be fully held responsible for it, but could there be at least more transparency in the information that is conveyed to us spectators? I think it is unacceptable that no measures were taken to correct this issue while it was confirmed that it had already happened many times. There were approximately 150 people in the theater, and we have all paid to spend an agreeable moment and watch a movie we have chosen, yet we end up being tossed around from one place to another.
poor service
Today, I wanted to go see a movie by myself and enjoy some personal. I go to star bucks and get a mocha. I walk upstairs to the theater entrance, and pay for my ticket with a coupon. The clerk/employee saw my cup of coffee, and said nothing. I the went to the ticket taker person, who took my ticket, rip it - THEN told me that I couldn't take my brand new fenti mocha inside. I asked why they didn’t they tell me this before a ticket was issued? Or why not at least before tearing the tick up?
This must be a new policy. I have been coming to this theater for years. I send upwards of $40 on crap every time I go there. I have taken food, McDonalds coffee, you name it I have taken it and eaten it in there - and I was still buying there food too!
WHELL NOT ANYMORE! I will not spend another dime on their concessions. - And I will devote time to spreading the news that they just absolutely reek of absolute idiocy. Their ###ic behavior borderlines on negligence and a public nuisance.
The free popcorn is meant to be eaten while you watch a movie. It is the same popcorn you get when you pat the $5 for it. It is not "old". You can always ask them to pop a fresh batch and they will be more then happy to. Other theater give you nothing at all, so you should be happy to get $5 worth of free snacks for your birthday.
I have never been to a single movie theatre that allowed you to bring in outside food or beverages. Maybe they didn't care in the past because you purchased other food? While I do agree that they should have told you beforehand, you cannot honestly be surprised that this is a policy a movie theatre would have.
"This must be a new policy." Unless you have not gone to a movie theater since the 1970s (when I started going), this is not a new thing. Almost no movie theaters will permit outside food or drink inside. Before you go on your hate campaign, let me explain something to you.
Movie theaters make almost nothing on ticket sales. Ticket sales cover the cost of the theater to show the movie, and that is about it. 99% of a movie theater's money comes from concession sales. Without concession sales, theaters would disappear. We had three awesome, independently owned theaters in our town that all went out of business. All three of them said it was because concession sales were too low and they couldn't afford to stay open.
I have a friend that is the manager of a Wehrenberg movie theater. He said that it costs anywhere between $15, 000 and $50, 000 to get the rights to show a movie on a single screen, depending on the movie. Tron Legacy in 3D cost $65, 000 per theater. So all the ticket sales are going towards breaking even on paying for the rights to show the movie. Concessions are the life blood of movie theaters, which is why they have such policies about not bringing in outside food and drink.
cost increase
I went to the movie today and found out ther was a price in crease for seniors a full dollar. I know you have to be aware of the fact ther is no cost of living increase for senior this coming year and last year it has been on the news several times. However you have to make this increase at the worse time considering the economy the way it is. This is a slap in the face for seniors. My salution as a senior to other seniors is instead of going every week to see the movie go every other week for a savings of $8.00 plus snack. Ther is always a salution to greed like AMC is trying to do at our expense. I feel that your being unfair to senios especially the fack that the attendance is down on Tusdays the day of the senior discount and we are not taking up that much space and to raise your cost od admission is totally greed on your part.

gift card refund
My grandson, Age 10, received a $25 gift card for his birthday in July. He lives 95 miles from the closest AMC. He has called the number on the back of the gift card at least 5 times requesting a refund. He was told he would receive a refund within 3-5 weeks. Well that was over 3 months ago. Each time he has called to check on the status he is told that...

I was stopped for a bottled water at an AMC theater. It was a simple half liter bottle, and I happen to live in a city where water conservation is very important. (San Diego, California.) I got really angry, and honestly figure it's (or should be) illegal not to allow a person to bring in one bottle of water. I don't need popcorn, I don't need candy, and I...
Read full review of AMC Theatres and 4 commentscandy wrappers
I see there are several references on the internet regarding noisy candy wrappers in the movies. I had a recent experience where the person concerned kept rustle rustle rustle through two thirds of the movie. (Probably doing it on purpose) This after I politely asked if the person (a lady of color) was nearly through. I lost fifty percent of my hearing in the military and the hearing aids are very sensitive to that kind of noise. Even after moving to another seat the noise continued. Nobody else said anything, since I was bombarded with verbal abuse from the party concerned.
lack of customer service
I was very upset when I was asked to leave after me and my family finally found seats in the movie theater and a man was saving the seats for people that weren't there the manager was called over and he asked me and my family to leave after I paid for my tickets and was physically there to have a seat. I got my money back but I was still unsatisfied.
zero tolerance - noise makers
ZERO Tolerance! With the price of movies there should be a ZERO Tolerance for everyone! PERIOD! I'm so tired of seeing babies, toddlers and kids (under the age of 12) in Rated- R movies...after 8-9pm! What’s going on with society? The movie companies state that their “Family” oriented but I don't understand why they would allow such a disgrace to their establishment, name and affiliates...If I choose to go to the movies, I must pay and encounter these kids CRYING, RUNNING, TALKING, the TEXTING LIGHT, PHONE RINGING, etc. during the movie- I ask, why go? A few weeks ago, as I watched the movie 'Legion' (Rated- R), the children (there were 6 kids there under the age of 5) started to repeat the language...one child yelled the 'F' word out loud! One lady had a baby that kept crying (age: under 1). Another lady with her baby kept walking in and out of the theatre due to the cries from her baby, at one point she stood in the walk-way (WITH HER CRYING BABY) and watched the movie! Totally disturbing EVERYONE….Are you kidding me!?! Others and myself had complained about the children- management sent an orderlie. He came in, walked across the main isle walkway and left. No one was escorted out, nothing was done…Managements response is comical. The children and kids are running this ADULT themed business. I guess your company is in it for the money- only! Wonder how many CHILDREN have seen nudity scenes at your establishment? There’s nothing wrong with saying NO! If someone was about to drive drunk, sounds like your establishment would give them the keys and tell them have a good day and drive safe! Now understand that I mean no harm or intent by that statement but what message are you sending to these kids? Their friends are working at the Theatres so it’s easy access for them. I can walk into a Theatre and see several employees standing, walking and talking to other employees- these hourly-paid individuals should be standing in front of the Rated- R doors asking for the ticket. If someone does slip in, management and a policeman should escort him or her out. This ‘show and tell’ will allow everyone to see that this type of behavior and disturbance will NOT be tolerated. The policemen are already at the establishment, use them- that’s why their there. Now, we all know that 'some' parents allow their children to see whatever- this is the only way they'll be able to catch the movie. The care of their children disturbing others is excluded. This is when an establishment says 'NO' to those parents attempting to see a Rated - R movies after hours- with kids. How can 'WE' plan a get-a-way when there's no environment to GET AWAY! Please change and FORCE the rule that NO CHILDREN are ALLOWED IN NC RATED and RATED- R MOVIES! What's the point of having a RATED- R code when ANYONE can bring whom he or she want regardless of age!?! I guess I should ask- why would your establishment allow a 4yr-old, 10 yr-old and the 13-teen/ 15-teen year-olds to purchase (or allowed) a Rated- R or NC rated movie? I’ve seen the 17/18 and 19 yr-olds who’ve brought kids to watch these R rated movies- You can definitely tell that a 19 yr-old is NOT the parent of a 13 yr-old…but no one says anything. I’ve complained several times! Management provides a ‘Free’ ticket and a sorry. Are you kidding me? This is not resolving the issue! I’d rather someone tell me that the company is in the business of MONEY by ANY MEANS NECESSARY! Primarily informing me that I should NOT close my Blockbuster account. In closing, maybe the executives should join the 'Undercover Boss' series and checkout your establishments! It's comical and embarrassing! Wonder if the local news would enjoy this? Don’t complain about society’s children when your participating in the demise of every child you allow in your establishing unlawfully. Again, what’s the point of having any ‘Rates’ on movies when ANYONE can buy a ticket and watch!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
OP,
I understand your frustration, however, the theater has little to say over who can and cannot watch movies. The MPAA makes the guidelines and the theaters have to follow them. These guidelines dictate the children (any age) can view R-rated films if accompanied by an adult. If AMC were to deny a family tickets to a movie based on the fact that they had a child with them, then the company would surely have many lawsuits on their hands, as well as the ACLU protesting outside.
work ethics poor management
I had previously worked for this company 3 years ago with no issues what so ever. I had to leave back then due to personal family issues. I decided I wanted to go back a few weeks ago and was rehired. I noticed major changes immediately during the hiring process. First of all they did not drug test me. I dont use drugs anyways but thought it was mandatory for employment. Secondly the interview or lack there of was only 3 min long and pointless. They ran no background check or checked employment history or references. Once hired I was told to come in for orientation. Usually at orientation youre given handbooks that you keep along with your uniform and schedule. I was in a group of 6 and out of those 6 I was shocked that I was the only one able to read efficiently aloud in the group. I learned one guy had 4 felonies for armed robbery, another girl smokes pot on the regular and one guy has a 9th grade education and no ged. The general manager the big boss couldnt read himself and barely spoke english! The managers played real nice during orientation but once hired and actually on the job I still had no uniform and was told the pants I ordered they were out of and didnt know when they would recieve them. I ordered a size bigger than my reg pants size because the pants run super small all they could offer me was something 8 sizes too big and no thats not an exageration! Telling me I have to wear them whether I roll em tuck em whatever and I looked at them like they were crazy, not even a belt could hold those pants up! So the gm amir told me take the day off and dont come to work till I buy a pair of uniform pants.. Im sorry but uniform pants are free with the job! I ended up spending almost 30 bucks to find the right pair of acceptable pants just to go to work. Once on the job I was thrown in concession the first day with no on job training. Coworkers didnt wanna help me learn the ropes as the systems have changed since I worked there last. Asking for managorial help was a problem! So everything they said in orientation was [censored] right away I noticed the managers allowing older employees to sit around and do nothing while I slaved and was used and even called a # in front of a manager and the boy was not written up. I wasnt allowed to use the bathroom or take my break at reasonable times, I felt as though something was wrong with this picture. I got screamed at for drinking a cup of water! But other african american employees were allowed to snack and take random cigarette breaks and drink anything and everything they wanted and it was overlooked by my african american managers!. After 3 days of hell and being mistreated I decided to put my foot down and tell the gm about himself in an approperiate way. Letting him know there are labor laws etc! I have every right to use the restroom as needed, the right to 2 15 min breaks during my work hours to eat or do whatever I need to do. And I can not be forced to work 12 hour shifts and go home 1 am and be back at work at 8 am for another 8 hrs when im scheduled for less hours. I can not be forced to pick up someones shift because im new and no one else wants to take his shift! I can not be written up for not wanting other people using my register while im logged in! At the end of the day whos responsible for the money in that register... Ohh that would be me! I felt like the place was clicked off and there was definately favoritism going on. How can a manager allow another red shirt whos on the same level as me dictate to me what I need to or need not to do when hes only been there 2 months? How can a coworker decide for me that were switching locations or shifts? Why when I approached the manager to talk about an issue I was dismissed? How can you tell someone to be at work a certain time and the manager is an hour late to let you in the building so u lose an hours pay, then throw 50 keys at you and tell u to open when the keys arent labled and you werent trained how to open or operate the food machines? Why do they schedule you for hours that are not in your availability sheet and then tell you your mandated to work that shift or your getting written up. This place is a disgrace! Theres racial discrimination all over, lack of good judgement and rules. The management is a joke! The employees are a disgrace! And from what ive been told a few people got written up for money missing from their registers and in reality the managers were pocketing it. Arent they supposed to count your drawer before you leave? I decided I wasnt going back today until I spoke to corporate and the funny part is I cant find a number for them anywhere. All I want is to be transfered and these ppl investigated. Its not fair its unjust and its illegal. If anyone has any info please pass it along

I know this post is very old but do you have a update on the situation thank you!
Damn... Sounds like a real [censored] hole. Don't give up on this though - the only way something is going to change is if somebody brings it up. What's the worst that can happen? You get fired? Oh well, you can find a better job really quick...

Saturday 12/19 2:15 show theater #1 No heat. Asked manager to put on
heat. it was on only five minutes. I left very cold and sick with my
girlfriend.
the movie was : " did you hear about the morgans?" . maybe 40 tix sold.
However upstairs the theater that "Avatar" was playing in was toastie warm.
If it is not good $$$$ to heat a theater when only a few tickets are sold then
give people heat or money back.
It was such an insult to sit two hours with coat and sweater to try to keep warm.
I am notifying the Cambridge Health and Mass Dept of Health about
this since this is terrible to do to people on a cold winter day.
Also, I may seek damages.
What terrible business decisions such as this.

customer service
Today, 11/27/2009, we purchased tickets online for "The Blind Side" viewing of the movie of 8:20 PM at AMC Theater Firewheel in Garland Texas. We purchased our tickets at 11:14 AM. So, we show up at the theater and get our tickets with our confirmation number about an hour and a half early. We walk into the theater and are told to go to theater number 13. Low and behold, the entire theater is full. There was a seat here and there, but no more than 3 total. We had 7. We did not have a problem splitting up, but we all needed to be in the movie and there was not enough seats. Not only that, there was at least 30 other people there that did not get seats either. So, the employees totally did not care at all when we told them that they sold way too many tickets for that movie. They told us that we could go get in the line for the other showing of the movie in theater number 10. Only thing is, there was already at least 300 people in that line. They did not want to accomodate us in the least. The 30 plus of us were just SOL. Totally dumbfounded by their customer service. They just informed all of us that we could just get our money back and leave. They are the ones who screwed up, not us. Who on earth overbooks a theater? I have the answer, just a bunch of idiots trying to act like they have a clue what is going on, but actually don't. Very sad that AMC doesn't care about their customers at all!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Find that hard to believe. I used to work in a movie theater and trust me...I have no interest in their continued existance, but, I am going to guess, it would be impossible for them to overbook a theater. The only thing that coiuld have happened would be that some people bought tickets for another film, but went into that movie instead. They could have had staff watching that particular theater to stop that from happening, but then AMC would go out of business on staffing costs in a hurry if they start that policy. Again I realy don't care about that industry at all and if it goes down...Great!
bad service
AMC Theater in Edina, MN would not sell me a small coke unless I bought a small popcorn. I had already requested a medium popcorn and they said I could only get a small coke if I ordered a small popcorn. So I purchased the medium coke and it was the worst I've ever had. I couldn't even tell if it was diet or regular. I will never buy a medium popcorn or coke there again. Just sayin...

Good Afternoon,
I need to let you know about the inhuman service given by Eddy, a young Asian male, the manager at the AMC Kabuki on Post St. in San Francisco on 02/03/18 at 11:156am. I never got an e-mail confirmation nor a text after I purchased my ticket on Wednesday, so I drove to the theater today to make sure I have my tickets and seats before any remaining seats sell out. I walked up to the theater, at 11:15am, and an employee was waiting at the front of the theater to enter, too. As the manager let his co-worker in, the co-worker asked the manager to help me: I told him my challenge. The manager was incredibly RUDE, IMPATIENT, DISRESPECTFUL, and gave a COULDN'T GIVE A DAMN ATTITUDE. I asked him if he could check on the computer for my tickets against my credit card. He said, "NO." Not even an "I'm sorry." Just, "NO." and then began to close the glass door on me.
As he did, I asked, "What time can I come back." And he looked at me but continued to close the door. Really? What could be more important that helping a guest? This young man is not going to have much success in life. AMC should fire him.
How the mighty and once noble Sundance Kabuki Theater has fallen to terrible customer service under AMC's new ownership. What a head-hanging shame. He represents YOUR COMPANY and, as Director of Rooms, of the hotel right next door, we will no longer send our guest to your now ghetto theater.
movie theater
Movie goers in St. Mary’s County are treated
like second class citizens
First of all, the marquee is so ancient looking, inside broken and uncomfortable seats, inconsistent volume control, small screens, slippery floors, few movie choices and old, stained carpets... That is what movie goers in Lexington Park are subjected to. It is not even a matter of choice. The only movie theater here, in this County, is so out of date that the new high definition movies are not shown. I have to drive an hour so up the road to Charles County, Anne Arundel County or Prince George’s County just to see the latest films in a theater which provides its audience with comfort and the latest in seating and technology.
What gives? Why do the movie patrons here put up with such deplorable conditions? And to top it off……the popcorn is often stale or too salty!
How long do we, here in The County, have to wait to be treated like first class movie patrons?

AMC 16, maybe the others I do not know, has taken a very hard-line on not allowing food. Hila and I went into the theater and they began to request that we not bring in our three Starbucks teas. The company suspended for complaining that someone at management insulted my religion. They had to let me go and because the main manager wanted to protect there ### he made me say that everything is untrue. I am Muslim and they fired me because I prayed to Allah. I told them I have a disability they don't care at all.
Oh, and this happened at the AMC in the Santa Anita Mall- I left it out sorry.
One time, I asked one of the Santa Anita Mall Employees in Arcadia if he knows when a specific movie will be playing next because it was not listed on the board. He was awful and just so rude, he yelled at me and said, "I don't Know!." I understand your concern and am not surprised you had that experience with the disgusting employee. I have plans to go see a movie there tonight and I am going to voice my concerns then!
