Getaroom Booking and Cancelling

I unknowingly booked a hotel with GETAROOM.com (also affiliated with hotelvalues.com) and now I see why there are so many complaints and people calling them a SCAM. Here's my story.

A few weeks ago I was online to book a reservation with the Hyatt in Salt Lake City. While on the Hyatt site I went to book the room and somehow, unbeknownst to me, I was apparently redirected (seem like "hijacked") to "Getaroom".

We live in Alabama and were going attend my son's debut tour out west. A week later he informed us that Nashville (which is only 4 hours from our home) had been added to the tour. So we decided we wanted to cancel the hotel in SLC and re-book the reservation for Nashville.

When I called the number on my reservation confirmation, I got an automated system that asked me why I was calling and I said "I want to cancel my reservation". Immediatley the automated system responded and confirmed that my reservation had been cancelled and then it asked if I needed anything else so I said "customer service" and then the automated system directed me to a person. I told them that I wanted to cancel my SLC reservation and then re-book for Nashville. The person told me that yes they see where I had cancelled and that it was "non-refundable" and would I like to book a new reservation for Nashville. I told them take the $550 from the SLC reservation and change it to Nashville. They said they could not do that because I told them to "cancel" the reservation. I explained I guess I used the wrong word and should have said "change" . Not being in the industry and knowing the exact terms to use. I explained that it was less than a minute ago when I told the automated system to "cancel" ... it was literally the same phone call. They said there was nothing they could do that I was out this money.

Desired outcome: full refund or re-book full amount to Nashville reservation

Getaroom Reservation of a room

We reseved a room on the 23 of August and wanted to cancel on 24 of August. The reason is that Getaroom charge $200 more for the stay then any other site. When we tried to cancel they asked $467 for cancellation fees when all the other site as well as Holiday Inn doesn't charge anything. I find that this is inappropriate and abusing.

In the lightv of the above we decided to keep the reservation but this is certain that we will not recommend getaroom to anyone and certainly not use them in the future. We consider this site as a scam.

I was charged $133 for canceling a reservation in October! This site is a rip off. No one should be charged for a room that they haven't even stayed in yet! Anything can happen between August 23 and October! Why charge a person on Social Security $133 just to cancel a reservation PRETENDING ITS TAXES AND RECOVERY FEES! GET A ROOM.Com is using DECEPTIVE PRACTICES!

Desired outcome: I want a FULL and COMPLETE REFUND OF MY MONEY FOR A ROOM THAT I never stayed in!

Getaroom New NOTHING about this high charge. It was more than the room!

Stayed at Micro Inn in Geneva NY charges 2 nights NEVER agreed to a charge bigger than the cost of the room! We stayed Aug 13 & 14th 2021. We never would have spent that much money. So upset help us out PLEASE. Judi Salinkas. #[protected] we need to make this phantom charge go away. The charge is $214.57 . I called Micro Inn and got no where! We would have cancelled trip if we knew of this charge

Getaroom Booking site deception

I reserved a room online for the holiday Inn, Dumfries. I believed I was booking it on their central reservations site, but it turns out I was duped by the website appearance, and I had actually used the third party getaroom site.
This only came to light when at the end of my stay I was presented with an invoice for an amount £79.05 less than what I paid for the room online, also the payment card on the invoice was a MasterCard number I did not recognise. It turns out when I contacted the hotel directly that getaroom took a payment of £251.27 from me on the 6th may online, then paid the hotels bill of £172.22 on the 8th August which was the day I left.
I feel upset that I have been hoodwinked as nowhere was it clear when I booked the room that I was going through getaroom site, I had intended to book the room directly with the hotels online booking system. The only suggestion was on the confirmation email which on reflection said the payment would show up as 'gar' which I now presume means getaroom.

Desired outcome: I expect a refund of the difference in the room price and the bill I paid.

Getaroom Unable to cancel reservation after being charged excessive recovery fees.

On July 29th, 2021 I was scammed from beginning to end by your enterprise. First, I was led to believe that you were Hampton Inn's official registration site by you using the terms, "official site" and "reservations.com". Nothing identified your site as "getaroom" or a third party. I have done business with Hampton Inn directly many times and they allow cancellations and do not charge a recovery fee. I realized you were a third party 5 minutes after making the reservation for 10/5-10/8 in Albuquerque, and upon viewing the receipt and seeing that I was charged a $449 recovery fee.

I am a senior and so are the other three people I am traveling with. We live on limited retirement incomes and can no longer afford this reservation. I called immediately 5 minutes after making the reservation to cancel and to complain about the excessive recovery fee charge. The woman who answered told me that there are no cancellations. I asked to speak to a manager and I was told he was busy and would call me back within the hour. No-one ever called me. The following day, I called 11 times. Each time either no-one answered or I was disconnected. I sent a complaint on your website and did not hear back.

I have examined your business practices on the internet and see that there are many complaints against you with the BBB and that you are currently being sued by a California couple for the same unethical practices. I have cancelled my reservation and you have not refunded me for the $1, 401.92 you charged me. I want a full refund and will be taking you to small claims court and processing a complain with my bank if not.

Getaroom False advertising of prices

When you initially want to book a room on their website they show you a price that is a couple of euros lower than booking.com and other websites.

It is only when you give them your credit card number and complete the reservation that they reveal an extraordinary fee ( for instance €27, 56 for a hotel room that was €57) and claim that they have the best price guarantee since breakfast and taxes are included.

However when I arrived at the hotel I learned that I still had to pay the city tax and that the breakfast is always included in last minute reservations and that I didn't have to pay extra.

The booking is non-refundable.

Getaroom deceitful organization

When booking my room, I believed I was at the hotel's website. Today, 8/6/2021, I learned I could get a discount because of the training I am going to. I called the hotel and that was when I learned I booked the room through a 3rd party. There was no mention of the company name [getaroom]- I clicked on the hotel and thought I was on the hotel's website. After researching, I learned this is something Getaroom does. I tried to cancel to get the better price but I was told there would be a $149 charge. They kept reading the cancelation feels and ignored me. I am angry that they do what they do and I want everyone to know to never use Getaroom as they are deceitful. I have no choice but to keep my reservation because of the training I am going to. They guarantee the lowest price- I don't think so.

Getaroom Scammed out of my money and hotel room

As an avid traveler and user of many travel websites such as Expedia and Kayak, I am fully aware of how online travel sites work. While I was searching for a hotel on the Pennsylvania/New York border, I came across a company called "Getaroom" or "CCI* Hotel RES". They were advertised next to larger companies that are well-known such as the ones I mentioned above. Offering great room rates, I thought I would take a chance with a new company that was advertised next to much more well-known companies. I found the hotel that I wanted which was:

Holiday Inn Express & Suites Jamestown, and IGH Hotel
2811 North Main Street, Jamestown, NY, 14701

Getaroom offered this hotel for $322.65 for a two-night stay. I frequently stay at Holiday Inn's and was pleased with this price. So I booked, or thought I had booked, this hotel. After entering all my credit card information and began the process of booking. When I got to the final confirmation page, I noticed that the hotel I was booked for was:

Comfort Inn & Suites
3025 Route 426, Findley Lake, NY, 14736

But the price was still the same. The $322.85 that I agreed to pay. But the Comfort Inn was a much cheaper hotel coming in at $240.69. Getaroom booked me at the wrong hotel for the more expensive hotel's price. So, to make sure I wasn't looking at things wrong, I went back through the whole process again. Sure enough, through the whole process, Getaroom was advertising Holiday Inn & Suites (the correct hotel), and then once you got to the confirmation page, it said Comfort Inn & Suites. This would be something easily missed by anyone as all the previous pages of the process said Holiday Inn and Suites. I then took a look at my confirmation email that Getaroom sent, and I was, in fact, booked at the Comfort Inn at the Holiday Inn price. I immediately canceled within minutes and dialed the customer service number for Getaroom. The cancellation policy for the Holiday Inn & Suites Jamestown, was fully refundable until 6/23/2021 by 4:00 PM Eastern Standard Time. Then, I was directed to the incorrect booking with a No Refund policy, which is not what I agreed to. Getaroom is showing paperwork of the incorrect booking which I did not make. Which is why I thought there was a glitch in the system. I did not agree to a non-refundable hotel room at the Comfort Inn. I agreed to a fully refundable hotel room at the Holiday Inn & Suites Jamestown for $322.65.

After the customer service number spontaneously hung up a few times, I finally was able to get through to a "representative". I explained to her that I was booked for the wrong hotel and was wondering if she could help me book the correct hotel. The representative, without hesitation, said that she was not able to help me, and that the cancellation policy was final. I wasn't trying to "cancel" my reservation, I just wanted help getting the correct hotel room as at the time, I thought it was just a glitch with the website. However, I was completely shocked when I received the answer of a flat-out "No". She claimed she could not help me. Even after explaining the "glitch" in the company's website. She would not explain why the company's website was working incorrectly, and would not give me an explanation as to why I was booked for the wrong hotel with the correct price of the other hotel that I wanted. There was no "customer service" about this company. This is when I decided to contact Capital One for advice because I was being scammed.

Once I reached Capital One Visa and was speaking with a representative, we made three different three-way calls together to try and reach Getaroom's agents. There again, was no answer, and spontaneous ending of calls. This is when I asked to issue a chargeback.

Upon further research, I ran into thousands of complaints about this company on multiple travel sites and the Better Business Bureau. I have included the complaints from the BBB and other websites detailing identical situations. It seems as if this is what the company does. People try to book a hotel, and get booked for the wrong hotel, or charged hundreds of dollars more than they agreed to pay while booking. This is exactly what happened to me. After trying to resolve the dispute multiple times with Getaroom's Customer Service, I am writing a review to warn everyone of this SCAM. PLEASE DON'T BOOK WITH THIS COMPANY. THEY NEED TO BE INVESTIGATED FOR FRAUDULENT ACTIVITY.

Getaroom,

My financial institution has already closed the case due to the FALSE INFORMATION you sent them. You sent them paperwork that I booked the Comfort Inn and Suites with a zero cancelation policy. I ACTUALLY booked the Holiday Inn and Suites with was able to be canceled with a full refund. So because your company lied and is a scamming company, you took my money and my credit card company closed the case.

So Getaroom.com is SHOULD BE ABLE TO PROCEED with my request at this time for a FULL REFUND due to the incorrect booking. I will continue to post that your company is a scam on EVERY WEBSITE POSSIBLE until my money is refunded to my account due to the mistake that YOUR COMPANY MADE. I've filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau and I am going to inquire about getting an attorney against your company if this is not resolved.

Getaroom hotel reservation ripoff and scam

I was booking a hotel in Italy and somehow this horrible site "getaroom.com" got in between, which I did not realised, unfortunately. I was charged an incredible amount of what they called "recovery" tax without any indication of it. It has only appeared during the credit card transaction when nothing could have been done to stop it.
the incident happend on the the 18 of July, it was Hotel Vittoria, Pesaro, Italy.
I would definitely appreciate the return of the "recovery tax" amount. But even more important, to shut down the site.

Getaroom Reservations

If there was a negative 10 this scam company would get it. They should be put out of business. They buy through priceline and add on a huge handling fee. (mine was $90 for a $167 room, making the total $257) This is added on without your knowledge along with the fact that it's a non refundable purchase. I will be contacting the BBB along with Priceline and all others to help put these ppl out of business. To give you an idea of the customer service i called to try to refund the purchase, during the entire call I heard a rooster crowing in the background... 👎👎👎👎👎

Getaroom Hotel Reservations

On 08Jun2021 I made a reservation on what I believed was the Hampton Inn website. Somehow GETAROOM.com hijacked my session (res #R2578256078). The rate for 11-13June was $442.48. I hit the reservation button and received a text from AMEX stating GETAROOM.com charged me $626.31 including a $183.93 "Processing Fee" that I wasn't aware of. I immediately called and asked to cancel since I did not agree to the exorbitant fees (it had been less that 2 minutes). They refused to cancel stating it was non-refundable. I pushed Jason to please help me, he finally agreed to a 10% ($62.63) discount. Unsatisfied and feeling totally scammed I called back and escalated to a Supervisor (Jaylen N). He refused to cancel and agreed to a 15% discount ($93.95). These fees are exorbitant. The massive list of BBB complaints shows most consumers agree (1, 106 complaints closed in last 3 years). They are rated as a "D+" and BBB determined the allegations, and overall concerning pattern of complaints, persist.

Desired outcome: I would like GETAROOM.com to provide the balance of the $183.93 “Processing Fee” ($89.98) as a refund to my AMEX immediately

This is EXACTLY what happened to me. I didn't agree to the hotel or the cancelation policy that they booked me for. I was shocked to see I was going to the wrong hotel with the actual hotel I wanted pricing. They are NOT resolving any issues. They just get on these sites where they have complaints and PRETEND they are doing something to resolve your case. After calling multiple times and finally getting a representative on the phone, they were completely nasty and would only offer me 15% back. They even lied to my credit card company and sent false documents of the incorrect hotel that I didn't book. It's absolutely sickening. The people who run this company will have to answer to God for their actions.

We were charged $443.48 for our stay at Hampton Inn. Our receipt from the Hampton Inn only charged us $333.88. So we paid $109.60 more through your "savings" than we would have paid if we had gone directly through the hotel. Bjarne could not give me a reason why only that there was an agreement between you and the hotel. I am a very dissatisfied customer and will not be using you again. I originally complained on July 9th and it is still not resolved.

The FBI needs to shut this site down and the Attorney General needs to indict the company's leadership for fraud. Run as fast as you can. They will steal your money with no remorse. Fraud Alert!

What a scam! I booked a 4 night stay in hotel in florida. Due to an unforeseeable incident I needed to change my dates. Not ask for a refund. They told me that I had to cancel my reservation and make a new one.
However, I would not be refunded my $550. There fore they would just keep my $550 and bill me another $550. According to website there is a $25 dollar fee for canceling, not $550!
I called the hotel they cannot change the dates due to the fact that getaroom is a 3rd party!
What a friggin scam!

Just wondering if anyone is going to respond? Its a holiday weekend and my reservation is for next Thursday.
Again my reference number is R2623401920 and my complaint ticket number is 5080882. It would be nice to know if GetARoom is going to keep my money. If so, I will fly one of my children down to stay for 4 days. Which will cost me even more, but its better than leaving the room empty so GetARoom can scam another customer. Thanks.

Getaroom Hotel reservation / misrepresentation, fraud, misleading, impersonating the hotel

I called the direct phone number of the hotel I wanted to stay at (googled the direct number of the hotel to try and bypass ANY 3rd party to make a reservation for me). A female answered the phone and I told her I want to make a reservation for that night. She told me I was going to be transferred to the "Front Desk for Guest Reservations" I am confident at this point that I am in-dead speaking to the Hotel and not a 3rd party. After I spoke to the supposed Front Desk - he says he has to transfer me again for the reservation to be finalized. ? Ok, so I get transferred again and the person says my reservation is successful and I would be receiving an email with my reservation number. The Email comes in and it is not from the Magnolia Hotel but rather it is from CCI*HOTEL RES and my charges are now the $153.77 (which was supposed to be lower because of my Military Discount) PLUS Tax Recover Charges $ Service fees (then says see details below) Below that it states "Private Membership Total $242.48" I spoke with the night manager on duty who stated I should not be being charged for a "Private Membership" and she's never seen charges like this. I wait another agonizing 2 hours for her to try to resolve this issue and she tells me that she can book me into my room so I can get some rest and then have the day shift manager resolve the issue for me in the morning or I can cancel the reservation. At that point cancelling the reservation after I had been awake for 2 days straight wasn't an option for me. I couldn't even stand up anymore at this point being a disabled Veteran. The following day I spoke to the dayshift manager for 2 1/2 hours while he tried to find out what happened. He said since the room was booked through a 3rd party they could not offer me any type of refund on my room but he would offer me 1/2 price for my room since there where other factors involved. At 2:00AM after I had been asleep for 1/2 an hour the toilet continued to fill up with water because it had a leak somewhere. They offered me a free night's stay at the hotel (in Dallas at their location) Which, I do not have any plans of going to Texas again in the next 10-20 years so that wouldn't do anything for me. He could offer to take off the expense for my Valet parking expense. (which was removed the evening before because the lead Valet supervisor told me he could not valet my truck because it was too big and because I had a motorcycle in the back - they eventually parked my truck in their private parking area and told me I would not be charged for parking since I had to spend such a long time trying to resolve the issue with them) He then stated he would only charge me 1/2 price for my room BUT I had to call the 3rd party who charged me for the room in the first place to get that 1/2 price. I called getaroom and was on the phone with them for over an hour speaking to Mark Allen Juod there. He offered me a 10% discount which is "The absolute most he could offer me" on my hotel charges. I told him I was not satisfied with that and wanted to speak to a supervisor. He told me 20 minutes later that he had spoke to his supervisor who authorized a 20% discount refund on my hotel charges. I said that's fine but I still wanted to speak to his supervisor. He continued to tell me over and over that there was nothing else that could be done and I did not need to speak to his supervisor. I told him again and again I wanted to speak to his supervisor/manager. He told me she (Marry Wong) was on a call. I said I would wait on hold until she was available. I was on hold for 20 more minutes until he returned and said his supervisor would be on a call for another hour at least but she would call me back. I told him I would rather wait to speak to her. He put me on hold again for another 10 minutes and returned and said she wanted to call me back and I needed to just wait for her return call. I know I will never receive a call back from this supervisor.
What this company does is make a customer believe they are indeed speaking directly to the hotel when they are not. Specifically, they do not answer the phone and say "welcome to Getaroom, how may I help you" they answer the phone and identify themselves as Guest Reservations and again, transfer you to "the front desk" again making a customer believe they are speaking to the hotel directly. This is highly deceitful, a scam, and fraudulent representation. I will be taking my complaint to the Better Business Bureau. I also filed a complaint through my credit card company for the fraudulent charges. If you EVER make a call to a hotel and think you are speaking to the hotel, I would ask and ask again if you are really speaking to the hotel because you are probably not. EVEN if you dial the direct number of the hotel! This is a HORRIBLE way for hotels to operate because when a guest has a problem they cannot do anything about it but direct you to the 3rd party who charged you for the room. It is completely unacceptable and as I stated, a scam, impersonation, deceitful and should be brought up on Civil charges for the way they operate. I intend to do all of the above until I get my money back from this dirty company. My reservation #R2619003672 for this horrific experience. 3rd Parties that purchase hotel rooms and then sell them for an outrageous amount above what the hotel would charge you is all well and find IF they would tell the customer that they are indeed a 3rd party and not act as though they are the Hotel you are calling. They do not do this because they are in the business of ripping people off who need a place to stay for the night. Sometimes under extreme circumstances such as mine, where I was supposed to be back in Nebraska by this time but due to numerous reasons I was forced to stay in a hotel to get sleep before continuing my journey back home. When a customer has not slept in over 48 hours and can barely function because of lack of sleep - places like getaroom see this as an easy way to rip people off and act and sound like you are speaking directly to the hotel. It should be illegal and may be, I will be looking into the legalities of how getaroom operates, by not only NOT disclosing who they are on the phone but also taking it a step further and acting as though they are in-dead the actual hotel you are calling. They do this by anserwing the phone and stating you're speaking to Guest Reservations (Which is another scam because this is actually the name of another company) who then mislead you into believing you're speaking to the hotel's front desk.

Desired outcome: Full Refund with an appology for the way the business operates and they're complete SCAM of impersinating the hotel you're trying to reach. I would also accept a job on the company's board so that I can fix their issues.

Getaroom Horrible customer service

This is the worst company ever
This is the worst company ever. A total scam. They make you agree to the non refundable room before they start changing the price and adding fees. I could not cancel it. Waited on hold over an hour to talk to a supervisor where the only thing he offered was a 17% discount after my stay. Five days later and no credit. I had to call again and wait on hold for over an hour. Got disconnected and had to wait on hold again. Turns out my credit was not approved so had to start over from scratch again. Such a rip off. My room cost $429 and it was a total run down motel. I asked the motel how much a room would cost and they quoted me $189. REALLY! Horrible customer service. Do NOT use this horrible company.

Getaroom Hampton Inn Reservation for Monday, June 21, 2021

Called number that overlay an on-line ad for Hampton Inn, Hixson, TN. Operator identified self as Hampton Reservation. Called on Sunday, June 20th to book a single night reservation at Hampton Inn, Hixson, TN for Monday evening, Checked on-line. Charge was far higher than promised: $229.75. Called Hampton Inn directly, learned that I had been duped into a booking site., that rooms were available for $137.00 and that there was no shortage of rooms as your booking person had indicated. Called your 1-800 number to cancel reservation. First two persons taking my call hung up when I was explaining situation. Next person explained charge including "cleaning fee for room." He stated that cancellation date for my reservation was JUNE 17th at 10 AM. I asked for explanation as to how cancellation date was three days before my reservation was made. I was treated disrespectfully. Called American Express and filed a complaint. Learned that number that I had called was associated with Gataroom.com. Called Hampton Inn and cancelled my reservation. Did not stay at that hotel. Monitored AMEX billing. Your charge did not show up until today, June 27th. I expect a cancellation of this charge on my AMEX account ending in 3006.

Getaroom Bait and switch

Called the number on the hotel website. It is get a room reservations. I was told $119.00 per night. I reserved and was told I would get an email. Because they spelled my name and email wrong and had my address in the wrong city and zip code, I never recd and email. When I checked into hotel the told me my rate was 119.00 I wasnt concerned because I trusted the person that booked my reservation.. I am not sure how my credit card was charged with wrong name and address but it was. I was charged $149.00 per night and $907.00 tax recovery. I tried to get a refund based on information I was told. They kept saying I was informed... Not if you dont get an email.

Never ever use getaroom. They are robbing people every day. I am just dismissed because they have their money. I am outraged by this company's lack of moral. I am too trusting and this company takes full advantage of this...

Getaroom My reservation

We made a reservation and I thought I was on hotels website. Clarion inn Strasbourg PA. Did not know it was getaroom.com until I got confirmation. They added $148 in fees on top of hotel cost! Reservation R2590942912. We want a refund for those fees charged to our credit card, I told the hotel of this as well. This will be reported to bbb. Also, it appeared the rooms were less than showed on the bill. I feel like this is stealing.
