entire meat department
I don't usually shop at this particular Jewel in Niles on Milwaukee Ave. Today I was on my way home and stopped there to get some meat for dinner.
The entire meat counter, beef, steak, hamburger, chicken and pork ccounters
was filled with discolored, brownish, greenish spoiled meat.
I have never seen a meat counter in any store like that. Jewel always has fresh meat.
I walked right out of the store. It made me sick. How could a butcher display such
disgusting looking meat. I wouldn't buy anything in that store.
service at round lake beach location. store #3432
Hi my name is Paul Patel & I own a retail business. I have submitted my state Tax I.D # with a copy from the state of illinois tax ID to Jewel osco at round lake location. So when I buy soda pop I can get tax exam. Jewel osco has given me Tax Exemption Card to me so every time I purchase I can show to cashier to get tax exam. Tonight 09/04/18 at 10.45 pm I was purchasing 12 pk cans of pop one of manager name megal came to cashier told not to sell unless he pays tax for it. He said you are a dealer & you buy from us & resale it. but it is legal by state law as long as I have given legal document for tax exam to jewel osco. I showed him tax exam card still he refuse to sell. I am doing business with you for more than 12 years. I buy from walmart, aldi & I have filled my tax exempt with them also. I am not doing anything illegal. Let me know what is your decision. my # is [protected].
As above.

Went this afternoon to purchase Pepsi on sale 4/ 10.00
Went to check out kept coming up 32.00 dollars!
Not $10.00
Kept telling me new system, that was over a month ago, 3 employees could not get it right!
When I got tired of this mess after over 10 minutes, I said this mess is not my problem! I was sarcastically told thank for my patience!
At that I left, I have been a jewel customer for over 40 years, can't wait for Woodmans to open up!
Maybe they will appreciate my business!

red pepper purchased
I purchased a red pepper (that looked great on the outside), and there was something horrible that had grown inside of it. It looked like mold and/or something that had died inside of the red pepper. I'm concerned about the quality of vegetables being offered. I have been a customer of Jewel-Osco for over 40 years, and find this very disconcerting. I took a picture of this red pepper.
manager
The manager at the 6107 S. Archer location is the worst I've ever seen. Disrespectful to customers AND employees. Reprimands them in the presents of Customers. Moral at this location is at an all time low. He will not call in ample employees to service customers to save money and departments and check outs are sparse of service. He himself stocks produce and borrows employees from one department to stock another. The only reason this Jewel continues to thrive is because it's the only "Jewel" in the area and it is a convenient neighborhood location. NEW MANAGEMENT NEEDS TO BE IN PLACE.
pharmacist? foreign guy. couldn't read his name tag. his name began with the letter g
Good Afternoon,
Yesterday after visiting my Surgeon (Palos Hills) for a post surgical check up, I needed a prescription filled as well as some groceries for home. I proceeding down Ogden Ave towards my home in Lombard. I passed a Jewel and stopped. I first dropped my prescription off at the Pharmacy, 3:00 PM on a Wednesday afternoon.. The pharmacist, dark hair, glasses and not overly friendly as Pharmacists usually are. He verified my prescription and told me it would be a 35-40 minute wait. I said WOW that long? I have never been told at any Jewel of such a long wait. He just shook his head.I thought oh well I'll take my time and see what else I need for home. Upon me getting to the entire other side of the store, I heard my name paged over the loud speaker and asked to come back to the Pharmacy. so, back I went. The pharmacist informed me that he could not fill my prescription. I asked if there was a problem? He said looking at my history, I use several different locations and he did not feel comfortable filling it! I confirmed that yes I go to many different Jewel, Walgreens and Target stores. Depending on what route I am taking home from my Dr. Along with any other errands or stops along my way. I became agitated, as I have never heard this before. I asked to please speak to a manager. He called a manager in a took him back to the computer and had a few minute conversation. I was embarrassed, ashamed and felt I had done something wrong. The manager came up and immediately apologized and said it is the policy of the store. I said policy for what? It's none of the Pharmacist's business to view where I go and then to question me about all the different stores I use. This is an insult and a lack of respect and downgrade of my character. I have absolutely nothing to hide. The pharmacist said he would have to verify with the Dr. before he could fill my prescription. I called my Dr.'s office and explained my embarrassment to a nurse. She asked me to put the pharmacist on the phone.
He filled my prescription, never once apologizing for the embarrassment and carrying on. I am still taken back with the very poor and unprofessional treatment I received at Jewel in Westmont. I will not be going back to that store!
I would appreciate a gift card for my time, embarrassment and uncomfortable manner I was left standing in. Alone while two men across the counter discussed me.,

delivery service
After several years of shopping at Jewel Osco, I needed a delivery service due to having severe asthma.
After The first 3 times I ordered on my delivery through this store on my IPhone the software was upgraded and became more difficult to order and on my android it was impossible. After entering promo codes on my IPhone tho, the request for checkout kept trying to load for over an hour. I was able to go back and delete the promo codes for a free item and was then able to checkout, but no free items. I thought okay they want to save money, but I need delivery. I continued to order for another month or so without entering promo codes and things were fair, not good. Exact names of items needed to be entered or it was a no go and if a substitution was chosen for my product, a much more expensive item was chosen for me, and much much larger than the product I wanted in the first place. Then the software was upgraded again and now after being allowed to pick products, checkout is a no go. I have been waiting for the checkout prompt to load for 3 hours.
We have asked for help several times and have complained but the same problems continue.
mustard greens
I went into jewel osco located at 443 E 34th St to purchase some mustard greens. As soon as I walked up to greens, there was a big bug crawling on them. Pictured below. This is very disgusting and bad for business! What if I would've brung this bug home with me? What if this bug was hidden so well, that it would have gotten cooked and possibly eaten? Please get fresh produce for your customers!
customer service
On Sunday August 19 I went to the jewel on 75 and Stoney in Chicago Il. I stood in line 30 min before I decided to sit my stuff down and walk out. The cashier had problems with every customer to where she had to keep calling a manager and redo the transactions. At this point a manger needed to take over. I was making a dish for my brothers birthday party. At this point I was disgusted with how long I was in line. I was in the second line. I need a response ASAP because this is unacceptable. I live two minutes away from this store I should not have to travel outside of my community to grocery shop
manager cathy williams
I was at the store at Geneva and Main St Wheaton and had a VERY negative encounter with the manager Cathy Williams.
I was unable to find an item (MoneyPak) and asked at the customer service register where they were.
Instead of answering my question, Cathy accused me of participating in a scam, wanted to interrogate me about why I wanted to buy a product that was associated with so many scams (for the record, I wanted to send money to my brother!) and she even demanded to see ID.
She was extremely rude and unprofessional. I USED TO do a lot of business at Jewel Osco but that will likely be reduced dramatically. Someone this rude negative should NOT be in management! It's a bad reflection on the entire company.

out of stocks!!!
I've been shopping at the Jewel Osco on N Clybourn Ave in Chicago for the last 5 years, or at least trying to, and today I've finally had enough and will not be returning to any of your stores again. I can't tell you the last time I shopped here and did not come across an item missing from the shelf that I WOULD HAVE purchased if available. The store consistently runs out of the same items every week and predictably runs out of sale items on a regular basis. I've included a few pictures of all the items I came to the store to buy that were not available. I am on my way to a local competitor to buy them. My wife and I have also returned or disposed of multiple items that we've purchased with rediculously old out of date labels. We make sure we triple check every item we buy now, which is terrible that that's how we have to shop. Last but certainly not least, this store is notorious for having the most understaffed checkout lanes in Chicago... There's probably 15 lanes in the store and I've never seen more than 3 open at one time. I've waited 30 minutes in some cases to give you my business! Management never seems to care or act with any urgency to relieve the problem, just business as usual. The only reason I've put up with all of this is because the store is within walking distance of my house, but needless to say, shopping here is anything but convenient. You may not be receiving complaints from all of your customers, but I guarantee that I am not the only one you have lost, or will lose because of these issues.
cashiers in streamwood
lately the cashiers (male ones) look angry, don't tell you the price when totaled and just stare at you as if you are supposed to find it on the display. No thank you, no nothing. They need to learn customer service, or put them in back stocking. There are too many shopping choices in this area for me to deal with being sneered at at the register like I was interrupting them.
check-out registers & baggers
New registers have stressed me out 10 times in past 2 months. I received flyers about sales for week, yet I have been overcharged at least 20 times. The screen does not show sales price, but original price then less discount! Customers are supposed to figure out what they are charged in an instant by subtracting as the clerk just whizzes everything with a bar code and ignores pleas to tell me why I cannot see the sales price. I have been overcharged over and over again because I cannot see what I've paid for items until bagged, paid, and get register receipt. THIS IS A DECEIVING REGISTER SYSTEM THAT HAS BEEN PUT INTO JEWEL FOOD STORES TO MASK OVER CHARGING! I am so sick of not getting the sales price, when caught at register, then wait for manager to correct it...OR after waiting in line, checking out, etc., I MUST GO TO CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAIT IN LINE AGAIN TO GET THE REFUND FOR OVERCHARGES. If I do not check my receipt while still in store to go thru above, then I find mistakes after hauling everything into car, then from car into a cart to go up to apt. to unload again and put away. Mostly, I end up with melted frozen foods, such as ice, ice cream, etc. DO I FEEL LIKE GOING BACK TO THE JEWEL STORE TO GET REFUND FOR OVER CHARGES? That new system is the WORST Jewel has had since my shopping there more than 22 years.
IN ADDITION, huge stress is put on customers at check out, because the baggers are 90% horrible workers. I organize items before cashier checks them out, but baggers ignore that. I instruct them to put not more than 2 ice creams in a bag, or anything heavier than that...I have bad arm and must handle these bags several times before home and CANNOT CARRY HEAVY BAGS. Meanwhile, I constantly have bagger who throws 20 lbs. of items in one bag. Also, heavy items are put ON TOP of produce and bread and other perishables. I get home to smashed tomatoes, bananas, and other soft items.
I am SO SICK OF YOUR HIRING BAGGERS WHO DO NOT CARE. I learned at about 8 yrs. old how to pack groceries properly with heavy items on bottom! Your employees are either NOT trained on simple methods...OR they do not care to do a job correctly. EITHER WAY it is unacceptable and you are ultimately responsible for my HIGH STRESS UPON AND AFTER CHECK OUT AT YOUR JEWEL STORES. I am elderly and should not be that frustrated or in more pain because of the uncaring management and employees.
MEANWHILE, I AM EMBARRASSED WITH PEOPLE IN LINE BEHIND ME, GIVING ME horrid looks as is it is somehow MY FAULT that cashier must constantly call about prices that are wrong in register. Or at same time watch the bagger pack my bags that are opposite of what I asked to be done with light-weight filled for my carrying. YOU PAY for baggers and computer input of pricing, yet evidently don't train properly to have so many issues at check out. IN addition, produce doesn't have prices posted on many items or doesn't have SALE prices posted. When asked the produce person has NO IDEA of the price!
One day soon I will likely have another stroke if these customer complaints are not remedied! START CARING ABOUT YOUR PRICING, REGISTERS, EMPLOYEES WHO ARE IGNORANT, AND ALL THE ABOVE.
food
My husband & I are regular customers of our local Jewel-Osco, but the quality of their products have dramatically declined.
Their meat fridges are barely stocked, and the meat thats left is brown & expired. They also don't have a great variety. All brands of chocolate milk have been expired for up to a week at several occasions.
As paying customers we expect better.
propane gas exchange
I exchange my empty propane tank at jewel osco location (4355 N Sheridan road, Chicago illinois 60613). Next day I returned to jewel osco with full capped propane tank as my grill couldn't start with the propane tank. There was so isssue with my grill, likely it broke. Jewel osco took the propane tank as it was unused n returned me the exchange money of $22. However they flatly refused to give me back my empty tank or reimburse the cost of the tank. I spoke to the manager who actually started doubting that I might have used the filled tank. I told her that your employee check the tank before taking it back. Still she didn't give me the empty or reimburse the cost for empty tank.
degenerative visual evaluation by cashier and grocery bagger
I have shopped at Jewel Osco (store 3345) for 5 years. This store has a pleasant atmosphere accompanied with its great customer service. If I have family from out of town, coming in at Midway Airport, ask me where they can go to pick minor grocery items, I would suggest this store. I would tell them to take the Orange line train from Midway, and get off on Roosevelt. Go down the elevator and across the street, outside the terminal will be Jewel Osco.
On July 28, 2018, between 12:30 pm and 12:45 pm, while waiting for a card purchase for groceries to process, the grocery bagger told the cashier to look at me closely. He told the cashier I was an old man with a wig on my head. After the transaction processed, laughing uncontrollably, the cashier handed me the receipt. Meanwhile the grocery bagger shared his observation with the cashier to the west of the waiting lane I was in. This resulted in more laughter at a higher volume. While departing the store with my groceries, I tried, but could not help but to become upset. I am familiar with a few of the cashiers, baggers, and service desk employees. However, I have never seen the grocery bagger (young African American male with dreadlocks) whom was visually evaluating me, or the cashier who responded by laughter (Asia W.). I did not inform the supervisor that sits in the office behind the customer service desk of the incident because I do not know if the grocery bagger was always evaluating the customers and sharing his evaluations with the cashiers for the sake of recognition. I do not believe that one occurrence is a reason to shop at another store. Although the laughter from the grocery bagger's observation covered two grocery lanes, it was not enough to disturb the store. Nor was store security called.
food store with rats
Jewel Food Store at 4355 N Sheridan Road Chicago Illinois 60613. On Sunday July 22 at 10am I was in the store. A rat the size of a small cat jumped off the bread rack by the deli. I tried to call your urgent service number ( held 20 minutes) hung up, This Jewel is dirty inside and out. The parking lot has huge pot holes. I have complained for years to corporate and to the manager ( when they have one). I have now filed a sanitation and rat complaint on your store with the City of Chicago. I have posted on Jewel Complaint line the live rat in the store. I have contacted the 46th alderman to have sanitation citations completed against this Jewel. I am sure if the Board of Health is called you will " have many many many" sanitation complaints. Your management of this store is the " Trump style of management" Store should be closed and cleaned and rat baited. I will no longer set foot in the store and will make sure my neighbors know of the issues.
rodent problem (video attached)
I went to visit your store in Skokie Illinois on tuohy ave and central today. As I was about to enter, I was startled by 2 employees throwing a large mouse out of your store!
They used a shovel to toss it around but it just kept trying to enter the store. I was disgusted. I took a video of the scene and will attach it.
The fact that your store has a mice problem has really turned me off to this location. I ended up only purchasing a few frozen goods.
I admit that your employees handled the situation rather good naturedly but I'm still very put off by what I saw. I expected more from a large chain like jewel Osco, especially a location in a wealthy suburb such as Skokie.
Please keep me in the loop as to how you will rectify this matter.

deli department
We ordered a broasted chicken, one pound of wings and steakhouse potato salad to have dinner with our grandsons, (13, 9 and 18 months old). The wings were so dried out we could not eat them! The potatoe salad had a 3" stem looking think that my 9 year old grandson had to spit out!
I called the store directly and spoke with the night manager and he did apologize and offered replacements, (NO THANKS), or a refund.
This is not the first time we have had issues with the deli Dept at store #3080 in South Plainfield! When we have gone back for a refund we are met with attitude and no apology.
I'm never allowing my grandchildren to eat Jewel chicken or salads again. My husband and I will look for somewhere else to purchase chicken.
