dammages and treated like i'm stupid
I submitted a BBB complaint about this company on 8.3.09 due to the manner in which Mike Shaw treated me. On 7.24.09, I had encountered an issue with my breaks that I did not understand after having them done by Firestone in February. My breaks made a VERY loud noise and I was extremely close to not stopping when coming to a busy intersection. Had I not...

A few weeks ago I had all of my tires replaced by Firestone in Lake Zurich, IL. Well, the other day I had to drive to Bloomington, IN to help someone move into their new apartment. The trip was fine--until about 11 miles outside of Bloomington, when my car began swerving (and this was a 60mph road, mind you). I managed to make it over to the right side of the road. Upon inspecting the tire, I noticed a lug nut on the ground. It was one of the lug nuts that holds the tire in place. There was only one in there...all the rest had gone missing. With the help of a police officer, I managed to get my car towed to the Bloomington Firestone. There, they inspected the car and told me that the Lake Zurich Firestone had put on the back left tire very poorly, with lug nuts that weren't tightened all the way. Some expensive Audi part in the wheel had been damaged, and the soonest they could get the part in was Thursday. This was Saturday, and I had to return home (5 hours away) on Sunday. They told me that Firestone would cover the expenses. Well, I have dealt with them for three days now and they had made no progress in talking to claims about covering the expenses or getting my car back to me in Chicago. Finally, this morning, I got called by a man at Bloomington Firestone who suggested that it was impossible that the Firestone in Lake Zurich had made a mistake, and that someone must have unsuccessfully attempted to steal the tire in those few weeks I had it. He said claims would call me later today to handle this issue. They didn't call. Based on the guy's response that Firestone couldn't have made a mistake, I think I have an uphill battle ahead of me to get all of the repairs, towing, and transportation refunded.

Good day All, on Wednesday May 27, 2009 about 06:15am heading south on Beltline Road to my job my car shut down on me as I stepped on the gas to go through the intersection. I tried to restart my vehicle it would not restart causing a fellow co-worker to help me get my vehicle off the road and on my way to work. I called John Smith my mobile automobile mechanic to take a look at my vehicle, after two days he found the problem. Okay we are going to refer back to July 22, 2008 when I took my vehicle to your store located at Store# 010156 Customer Old Denton Rd Carrollton, TX 75006 Invoice: 080369 I wrote you about 11 months ago how your technician(s) representatives butchered my wire harness to my car. After John put in the ECU and fixed the improper wire jumper by your technician(s) on the top side of the engine, here it is 11 months later he finds that your technician(s) butchered the lower half of my harness and not securing the harness at all causing it to wrap around my transaxle which then snapped harness for the crank shaft positioning sensor, and the sensor itself, in the same process it snapped the oil sending unit harness also after he done the initial troubleshooting of replacing the cam shaft positioning sensor first.
My personal concern for Store# 010146 is that on Sunday September 28, 2008 my fiancée car would not start while at the store, she called me and told me what was happening at the time. I then went over to see my assessment was that the battery was gone. Since I was caught between a rock and a hard place because my mechanic was not available at the time I told her that we would have to take it to your Firestone store which was the closet and open. I did not want to take her car there because previous experience, but she needed her car for work Monday, and the store representative that contacted me about the first incident told me he did not want to lose my business, and got away cheap with only a $150.00 refund credit to my credit card. So we took her vehicle there and I told your representatives the nature of the problem and it need an oil change, and left the vehicle with them. They called about two hours later telling me that yes the battery is bad and recommend that you replace the alternator and the belts that they were bad also. I asked for an estimate, after I was told the estimate, I then told them to replace the belts, battery, and change the oil please. When we picked up her car along with the invoice they gave some kind of graph print of the alternator charge, I got the car home, I started the car and removed the positive side of the battery and the car remained running which told me I had no alternator problem, and still do not have one. Customer Invoice: [protected] Toyota Camry SE (Blue) 4-2164 2.2L DOHC
Next adventure with Store# 010146 on Sunday April 26, 2009 my fiancée vehicle needed her inspection sticker for here vehicle, after calling around your store was the closet and open to do state inspection. We both looked at each other as to say oh no not again, but she told me that she did not want to get a ticket for her sticker being out. She took it over there, after a while she called sounding upset that they told her about the cost for the work to be done on her vehicle to pass inspection. What she was more upset about was the cost per lamp bulb being $19.99 each in which they replaced two of them, what even more upsetting to here now, one of the two has blown out already. She felt/feel that if she did not need that inspection at the time she would/could have brought the lamps herself and replaced them and I agree. Customer Invoice: 086113
Now my question to you and anyone else who may be reading this, is this the best you can do for your customers that spend their hard earned money at your store(s). I’m just hoping that it's just store# 010146, and if it is maybe you have some technician(s), manager(s) with bad altitudes that should be looked into, along with The Better Business Beau, Consumer Affairs, or one of the local News Station(s) that reports this kind of fraud. With the way the economy is now, we as Americans can not afford to sell out on each other for a quick buck, we already sold this country, took a good look around, we make nothing any more, and pretty much have nothing but ourselves.
I have attached pictures to your website along with physical documenation and pictures of the damage that was caused by your technician(s) and manager(s) negligents to my vehicle, in for a full refund of parts and labor done recently on my vehicle please.
Camshaft Sensor: $61.69
Crank Position Sensor: $70.19
Crank Position Sensor Harness/Connector: $16.23
Labor: $405.00
TOTAL: $553.11

Eric Daniels

discrimination
i had a bad experience to happen to me at this store that was degrading and humiliating.I talked to people in management and was told to go to store in next closest town.I went to store to have inspection done and signal light repaired.I am handicap and black and my husband is white. My husband went in ans asked if they could do inspection withn me inside the car and we were told they could not.We told them we would have to come back because i didnt bring my wheelchair.Employee seem annoyed by this.I came back a week later with wheelchair and told they couldnot do my car because i ordered some tires and didnt pay for them.I asked to see an order with my name on it and asst. mngr got angry told us to get out of his store or he would call the police! He was very very loud and upset. Was this disabilty discrimination or racial?

bad service
I went to the following Firestone location: Firestone Complete Auto Care 17912 Ventura Blvd Encino, CA [protected] I spent $170 on changing my front brakes, and was supposed to get "organic" brake pads, which are the best kind. I went back 3 times because the brakes kept making a noise when I braked. After the 3rd time I went there, they fixed it and the noise went away. 8 months later, the brake pads started to make a grinding noise . I went to Brake Masters (to get a second opinion), and they told me the anti-shem part of the pads fell off (I have this in writing from Brake Masters) and were grinding on the brake pad. They instructed me to go back to the original person who put on the pads (Firestone), and have them replace it, as it should be under warranty. I went back to Firestone, and the first customer service rep (Amir) told me they would replace my pads at no cost, and would put on the "organic" pads instead, since I had a more inferior type of brake pad. At the time, I did not realize that 8 months ago I had paid for "organic" pads (this is written on my receipt from Firestone which I have), but that they had put on a cheaper form of the brake pads on my car, even though they charged me for a more expensive brake pad. So the gentleman asked me to leave my car there, that they would change the pad at no cost to me. I came back 5 hours later, only to be told by the service manager “Kevin” that there was nothing wrong with my brakes, and that only the anti-shem had fallen off and that this was not a big deal. He told me he would replace my brakes if I had any problems in the future, but he refused to give this to me in writing. So I basically left my car there for 5 hours, and they did nothing to my car. On the paperwork they gave me, they stated that they “put back the anti-shem”, but the service manger Kevin told me they took it off – so the paperwork they gave me conflicted with the information that they verbally told me. A week later as I reviewed my original receipt from October 2005, I realized that I paid for organic pads, and they did not put those pads on, but instead they put on a cheaper form of the pads. I feel cheated because they lied to me and that I feel like they are dishonest mechanics at this location. That day he was even trying to convince me that I needed 2 new back tires, when I had actually bought brand new ones a couple months ago. They are dishonest and try to make commission by recommending consumers to buy parts that they do not need.

that's very rude thing to say to someone who's life was put in danger because of negligence. This particular incident was an external thing which you could see but what if it was an internal work? How exactly would someone go about checking that. What you obviously are not understanding is that someone put their trust in a mechanic they paid to do a job correctly.
You're kind of a jerk if you DON'T check work when it's done on your car.
Shut up and buy a decent truck instead of that 25 year old POS you're driving your family around in.
I went to a Firestone store at 36th Street & Thomas in Phoenix, AZ. I paid for a safety maintenance check and a tire rotation, I then drove about 45 miles and lost control of my vehicle on the highway, I was able to stop my vehicle, however I was facing traffic on I-17. Thank God we were not killed, myself and my 5 year old Son. My Driver's side rear tire and my Passenger's side front tire were coming off of my Explorer. Firestone sent a Tow Truck, which took 5.5 hours to get there. Then Firestone only replaced the Bolts and lug nuts that were missing and told me my vehicle was FIXED. It was not, it needed several hundred dollars of work to be done, then Firestone told me that everything that was broken, was like that and said that it was on their inspection sheet, What Liars, I have my copy of the safety inspection and the only thing it showed was that my rear shocks were showing some wear & as long as I did not overload my vehicle it could remain like that for years, Exact words from their ASE Certified Mechanic, Assistant Manager. Firestone has never taken any responsibility for this motor vehicle accident. they have gone out of their way to be rude and patronizing, and have actually stated that I should have checked my lug nuts after driving a few miles then my family would not have been put in danger and I would not have needed to have back surgery etc. The store that I went to Advertises that they are Car Care Specialists, They fired the Technician that worked on my vehicle and I heard that I was not the first car accident because of not tightening the lug nuts properly. I filed a complaint with the BBB and they fought it and said it was going to be litigated so the BBB had no jurisdiction. So Buyer Beware, double check everything that they do. They are dishonest and they truly DO NOT CARE. They have signs everywhere stating that their mechanics are certified and then they have technicians and Assistant Managers that have Not finished or even started their training, but they are still working on vehicles. You are putting the safety of your entire family in their hands.
bad service
I changed my four tires for my 2001 Honda Accord EX 4 cyllinder car from Firestone Tire Center at
3161 EL CAMINO REAL, Santa Clara, CA. [protected]. Tire specification for 2001 honda accord
ex is 195 65 R 15. I purchased four potenza G009 tires with that specification. On 2nd february when I
was inspecing tires I found out one of rear tire a wrong tire has been put with 195 60 R 15. If this is the kind
of service and reliabilty is expected from a firestone tire center, it's really a problem. There could have been accidents
with wrong tire specification. How can they put a wrong tire when having a wrong tire increases probablity of
having accidents?
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Well, while proper sizing is important, it's not very likely that one series down on a 195 is going to cause an accident. That's somewhat exagerrated. After all, it appears that the complainant went 10 months with no problem whatsoever. While it is sloppy, sometimes mistakes happen. Don't overreact. Just call the store and get it remedied.
fraudulent practices
I explicitly asked Firestone to check the oil leakage from the engine. They gave me $21 written estimate for oil leakage check on Saturday and called later asking me to wait until Sunday. OK. They called me Sunday morning telling me that a dye oil leakage check would cost $70! I said WHAT? So, they gain your business giving you a misleading estimate and later want to charge you much more for the same job! What a scheme! DO NOT ACCEPT! I told them to stop all and went to pick the car up. The car was on the lifter with all 4 wheels off! Why remove the rear wheels if the leak is from the engine on the front? They said that is their procedure. I told them I would not pay for a service/procedure I did not order. So, they did not search/find the leakage and performed an inspection on my expense to find other ways to make money. The guy on the front desk gave me a hard time and I had to go through a distress before he agreed not to charge the $21! My Sunday felt apart. So, my advice is not to pay these guys if they did not perform the job you wanted. Make sure to be as specific as possible about the job you want done and the problem you want fixed. Make sure they write your demand in the written estimate. If you do not take these preventive measures, they will do whatever they like to make money, will charge you and you will end up paying for their false estimate. I will never go back to Firestone or buy Firestone products. Good lucky.

ruined brakes, refuse to fix
I brought my car in to get the brakes fixed 6 months ago. Brakes continue to squeal despite 3 attempts to fix it over 5 months. After 3 attempts it keeps getting worse. My car now makes a constant high pitch squeal out of the front right only when not using the brakes, just so when I brake a different louder squeal comes out. I got my money back, but now im stuck with a car in worse condition than what i brought it in for. NEVER LET ANYONE AT THE FIRESTONE ON HIGHWAY 50 (EAST COLONIAL) BY THE FASHION SQAURE MALL TOUCH YOUR CAR. THE MANAGER OF THAT STORE SAID HE HEARS NOTHING IN MY CAR, BUT ANYONE THAT RIDES IN IT SEEMS TO NOTICE AND REMIND ME OF IT.

unauthorized credit account activated
I recently went in to firestone to have my car checked, struts were damaged, I authorized replacement, I inquired about the credit card from CFNA, the mechanic asked me some general information then printed the Credit Card agreement, I read the fine print then told him that based off of the interest rate that I would not like to apply, he said "its too late I already activated the account through the system" I said, " I didnt authorize you to do that and I didnt sign an agreement" he said "but you gave me your information, andthat all I need"

The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
OMG this same thing is happening to me. They said $200 something and charged over $1000. Now they keep giving me the run around
This is a scam running between Firestone and CFNA credit card. They will first make you open this card saying there is a discount which there is none as they just jack up the price and show the discount . Once your credit card is put on your firestone account, the folks at firestone charge the card without authorization. After this the CFNA credit card company will just ignore any complaints and send you an invoice from Firestone that you have never seen before.
Here is what happened with me. I took my car for engine stalling while the car was running. Firestone told me they first need to do a $80 diagnostic check to find out the exact reason. After that they called me and said need to replace battery and terminal wires. I said fine go ahead and then got a call to pick up my car. At this time the car wont even start. They had already charged the card once till now.
Now they told me they will fix the problem and finally next day, i picked up my car. While picking up the car i was told there is no extra charge. After a week, i went to the cfna website and see an extra charge of 400 $ made. This charge was unauthorized and unknown to me. I finally cancelled my card. This is a huge scam.
Rip off
I had been a customer of this Firestone for years, but good managers are all gone but the greedy ones. Went in for an oil change and check on some noise issue. Told the bill will be $1600+ but 10% discount. That is 50% of how much my car is worth. I declined and went picked up the car. Guess what, instead of free inspection they got me for 22 bucks. Guess what, they are not getting me for the $1500. Went somewhere else and received a free inspection and with labor... $660 for the same fix. Matter of fact that there are some phantom parts Firestone was gonna charge me. I confirmed on internet that they inflate their parts to more than double of the actual cost, and I doubt I will be getting high performance parts. ( also, I paid for an inspection but they failed to ID the leak on the strut with lifetime warranty they put on, but the free inspection form other place revealed it. )
They actually had the guts to ask me if I like to have them change the air filter! Once again, MORE THAN DOUBLE! Once they handed me a manufacturer recommendation list to do but when I check the owner's guide, instead of all these high $$$ jobs, it is just an oil change for that amount of miles.
They had become very dishonest! They lost me as a customer!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
man you guys have no idea.. took my car in to have a dianostics test done cause my car kept dieing and they f me in the a by throwing me a bill of $1060.00. they replaced a few seals, water pump and timing belt.. wtf man. they even broke 2 of my bolts and made me pay for them!
Just had a bad experience with them as well, I was at the Firestone on South High in Columbus OH. I had a brake emergency, it was either a bad Master Cylinder or a leak, I did not have time to bleed and it was getting late so I took it to Firestone since they where still open. figured the parts where cheap, I would pay a little more but it would be worth it to have the truck ready fro the weekend trip.
Got a call the next morning, the truck was fixed, it was a busted Brake Line, they charged me 340 to fix it, a little steep but it was done and it is 30 days same as cash. Anyway I get off work and get a ride to go pick it up, as I pull up to the shop I see the truck is still in a repair stall? I go in and the counter person asked me if I have issues starting the truck when it rains out, I said no. He takes me out to the garage and demo's that it is cranking but it will not start, one mechanic blurts out he thought he smelled gas so it must be electrical. I did not hear the the gas pump kicking on so we tried to spray starter fluid in and it tried to kick on. Appears to be a gas issue, the tech starts going on about a bad fuel pump, I mention it was just replaced about 1.5 years ago. He then tries and tell me the cheap pumps go out all the time and I reported back that it was a Delphi, nothing cheap about it. They then said they would look at it the next day.
Next day they call me, and the Tech tells me he looked it over and it is one of two things, it is either out of gas or the fuel pump needs replaced. That was 2 odd options if you ask me, I explain I just filled the tank up a few days before bringing it in so I doubt the gas issue, he then goes on and quotes me a tick below $900 to replace the fuel pump. I thought that was high but he then explains they only use quality Delphi parts and so on, and he checked my Firestone account and I had more then enough credit to cover it. So I told him I will look into it and call him back. I research the part, retail is about $370, I could get it with a local discount for $300, I can get it online for $203, they where charging me $580 for the part. I have seen Advanced Auto Parts trucks there so I know where they are buying from and what that company would charge me for it, I am sure they are getting it cheaper.
I call the garage who put the last pump in, they apologized and explained the warranty anymore on those pumps is only a year. They did offer to put in anew one at a discounted labor cost, I told them I can get one for $203 and they said that was fine they would put that in for me. Now I just need to get it there, I call Firestone back and explained I need to get it to another garage to get fixed, they sounded not too happy, I then explained that if I could bring them the pump maybe I will let them do it for the labor, they said they could not do that. I explained it would be the exact same part and they still refused. I then explained that I thought their markup on the part was too much and then they hung up on me.
So I got to their garage and tried to hit the gas tank to get it going so I can take it to the other garage. The counter person made a commend that they tried that and it does not work, that the pump was bad. So then I strapped it and towed it to the other garage. I told them to check it out first to make sure it was the fuel pump. I get a call the next morning from the other garage, they said the truck was working I can pick it up anytime. I asked what was wrong and they said the one wiring harness up front had a couple wires that where broken on it, he said it was near the brake line. He mentioned it was a little corroded anyways but most likely when the Firestone guy was working on it he had to move it to the side which broke the wires and thus no power to the fuel pump, $15 part $80 in labor.
The tech was trying to be nice with Firestone but I keep wondering what would of happened if Firestone would of replaced the fuel pump and it still did not work. Would they charge me for the harness as well, did they already know about the harness and just had plans to replace it and still charge me for the fuel pump? I don't know this is not the first issue I have had with this garage and a couple friends had bad experiences there as well, I always figured they would be alright for tires and really light work but now I can't even trust them for that. I know it could of been totally honest on their part but I just got that feeling it was not as honest as it appears, I am on the fence right now about a BBB report on them or not.
The Firestone in San Antonio on Babcock is turning out to be the same thing about over inflating their prices.I guess they feel that customers are at their mercy and they can charge whatever they want.
Why has dishonesty run rampant in this country? Why can't their be honest people in the world anymore? Why does greed have to be a part of business in these so called giant companies that spend so much money on advertising only to stick it right back over to the consumer?
I hope someday they get theirs. You know what they say, what goes around comes around!
What's the point of complaining to the Better Business people? They don't penalize them for anything.Just a slap on the wrist and off they go to screw another consumer in the wallet!
The reason the economy is in the toilet is because of dishonest practices like Firestone and others like them. This country will probably never recover from this recesion since the rich keep getting richer. They kick us when were down and don't show any compassion for people that don't earn enough money.
Firestone is one of several corporate auto service businesses that are not what they seem. They look stylish and clean bu they will find a way to squeeze you and make you think they are even giving you something free or at a discount.
If it is at a 10 or 15% discount, they are jacking up the price of the parts or adding a "service" to overcompensate for anything you might have saved.
Know that they keep very few parts in stock. They get them from retail auto parts places just like you and I would and then they double the price. That is where they got my brake pads even though they do have a small stash of Wagners. Firestone is a bulbs and belts place at best IF you could trust them.
I got a replacement battery for my jeep. They state that they give you a free electrical inspection. But the electrical service charge (cleaning the battery terminals) was a charge. I could have bought a better battery at Sears for a third of the price.
I have had Michelin Tires on my car for the last 40k miles and they probably have 20k left. I bought them a Sears who rotates and balances them for the life of the tire but Firestone was closer. MY tires had developed a weird vibration so I took the car in to have them balance the tires.
They called me into the service area and tried to convince me the rim was bent and they tried but couldn't balance them. I couldn't figure out what that deal was until I took them to Sears, who did a perfect balance and told me both fronts were missing weight but had tap on weights on the inside of the chrome rims which was a no-no. The put the flat weights on the inside of the rim and it rides smooth.
Like all the other corporate credit hucksters, the almost handcuff you until you get a Firestone credit card. The only thing good about that card is that it offers 90 days interest free charges with a low minimum so you can pay what you want. I just don't like the hustle because clearly, the intention is to make it more convenient for you to keep bringing you are back to them for their inferior service and jacked up prices.
My son worked there and was in total amazement. He said, "dad, many of these guys have never even worked on their own car and I wouldn't let em touch mine!"
Sam thing happend to my 83 year old mom in San Antonio. We filed a complaint with the attornery general's office. The investigators called us, so we hope they are investigating.
I just had a similar experience of "price inflation" with the Firestone here in Bloomington Indiana. The counter staff even tried to tell me that the nature of my problem (the driver's side window was off track but the motor was still good) was such that the motor would have to be replaced even if it was good (allegedly due to some gibberish about Subarus, the make of my car), and that it was a complex repair t hat woudl take at least a full hour ($85).
several months ago, they had inflated my brake repair estimate by over $250 and said that I needed reare brakes. Fortunately, I took it elsewhere for the repair and saved a lot of money. I had thought a window would be simple and less open to price inflation, but I was wrong. I add my name to the growing roup of people who will avoid Firestone for even the smallest repair.
Just an update. Found out the actual part cost $211. Firestone marks it up to $560, try to sell it to me for $440 as a "deal". $1600 repair I had it done at a different chain for $660. Can't not be happier.
intentional damage
Bought 4 new tires and lifetime alignment from Firestone complete auto care. Quoted me on numerous other unnecessary expenses that I refused to authorize. Well, after having 4 alignment check and spending a lot of money on cam bolts and new parts...my tires got worn so bad, they wouldn't even rotate them, or check the alignment without my purchasing 2 new tires...not only should the new tires be covered under warranty, they have less than 9, 000 miles on them, but since they have been the only ones doing the alignment, it should be covered somehow under that as well. Based on my experience with them, I will never return, they have lost my trust and tried to rip off a deployed soldier's wife...that really pisses me off!

they are ripping off the customers
Firestone service centers in the Phila, PA area are franchises owned & operated by several owners, some of whom are in business to gouge and overcharge the customer for repairs not needed or are providing inferior off market products and poor service that does damage so you have to bring it in again. Their lifetime allignment service is just an excuse to bring you in so they can tell you that you need false repairs. These dealers work under a famous name brand disguise, but the owners & operators of these Firestone franchises are charlatans who prey upon unsuspecting people. The managers are probably given bonuses at the end of the month for the most money they bring in. But really all they have to do is treat the customer fair & honestly and they would have a customer for life. Instead they choose the opposite way and chase the customer away. Go figure.

Overcharging and hiding
Went in to have my A/C serviced the day before IKE hit. The manager had that thing in and out in 4 hours, which sort of surprised me, but the A/c was cold so we hit the road for New Orleans. Then the thing started making all kinds of noises from the compressor, the HIGH switch wouldn't work and the drag on the engine was unbelievable. Went back to give details of the interior switch and they took it back in and told me it would be an additional $800 for the switch. I had just paid nearly $2, 000 already (and I found out that the job would normally cost $1200.00. Asked to speak to the manager who was "out", "on the phone", "on the toilet", "with another customer", "sick", "out" and "home sick". Called Firestone's Customer Advocacy toll-free line and the lady was nice, but did nothing. She told me she would have a "senior supervisor call" regarding the over-charging and lousy service. Never heard from anyone. Don't use Firestone Complete Rip-off Auto Care. You're going to pay 30% more than you should and you will get absolutely no customer care, much less customer CARE. Avoid these guys like the plague and go to Jerry's on 1960 in Humble.

They will not rotate your tires. They will only try to sell you new ones. But they WILL put "Tire Rotation" on the bill and charge you $20 anyway. Did it to me. No more Firestone for oil change and tire rotation for me!
Lost brakes on our Acura, brought the car across the street to a Firestone location in Charlotte NC..they told us it ws the ABS and that they needed to be replaced..and also had to replace the brake pads..total cost about $2, 000..and they would not use the brake pads we already purchased saying warranty would not cover it..Took the car down the road for a second opinion at a family owned shop...turns out the Cylinder needs to be replaced. they will do that and the brake pads for $400...Clearly by all the complaints, Firestone is deliberatly finding ways to rip people off..be warned!
Firestone is a complete ripoff. My 83 year old mom went there for a tuneup and came out with a 2400.00 bill on a credit card she didn't know sh was getting. She thought it was a loan, they told her she could make small monthly payments. They didn't tell her it was at 23% interest. Her car only has 71, 000 miles on it, they replaced the struts, shocks, brakes and a lot more. Attonery General investigators have contacted us regarding our complaint. We hope they stop them from ripping people off.
I’ve been a Firestone customer since last several years but based on my personal observation and experience I can say that all Firestone doing is just making customers fool.
Here is what happened with me. I bought 4 tires from Firestone with 65, 000 miles warranty and every 5000 miles I visit local Firestone shop and asked for rotation. Since I also have life alignment service from Firestone so every time I also asked them to check if my car needs alignment. Sometimes they did alignment and sometimes they said there is no need of alignment. Today when I went there for rotation they informed me that the tires are not in good condition and I need new tires. When I asked them about the warranty they informed me that since I wasn’t doing alignment regularly so warranty is no longer effective. I explained them that I was there every 5000 miles and asked them to check for alignment but they didn’t listen to me.
Now imagine, Firestone tires with 65, 000 miles warranty are worn out in just 33, 000 miles so what is the standard of their products and then these guys are using different hidden tactics to make customers fool. I am sorry but I am not going to buy anything from Firestone anymore.
Agreed, I worked for them, the focus was on sales, and customer service was only at the forefront when a problem occurred...I'm with a different company after 10 years and 7 as a store manager. I would love to write a book!...but death awaits the brave soul who attempts it, Firestone is owned by the Japanese! they are ruthless. I am relieved to be out of it all. I do miss the customers and I wish i could open my own shop, but big corp. like Firestone keep the local shops at bay in the big city.

• On 8/14/ 2006 (customer invoice 068635) a Trans Flush with Versatran Trans Fluid was recommended by the Service Advisor to improve performance. Vehicle had 69, 223 miles.
• On 6/3/2006, (customer invoice 105393), Half Shaft (Front-Right) was recommended by the Service Advisor. Vehicle had 63, 791 miles.
• On 6/14/2006 (customer invoice #105563), Half Shaft (Front-Left) was performed. Please take note that this service was recommended by the same Service Advisor and the vehicle was taken to the same location for repair. Please keep in mind that I had to call the Service Advisor prior to the work being done so the part could be obtained. Vehicle had 64, 243 miles.
• On 10/7/2006 (customer invoice 069941) Trans Flush with Versatran Trans Fluid was performed on the vehicle. Vehicle had 71, 499 miles. Also, a Standard Tune Up 4 Cylinder service was performed on 2/4/2007, (customer invoice 072700) returned the car and found that one of the spark plug wires were bad and also an ignition wire was also installed at no charge. Vehicle had 77, 542.
• On 7/23/2007 (customer invoice 047143), Half Shaft (Front-Right) was recommended by the service advisor.
• On 12/31/2008, (Invoice # 062460) an alignment check, transmission Fluid Flush and a Complete Vehicle inspection service was performed and an air filter was installed. The vehicle had 107, 339. The Vehicle Inspection was performed because I heard a clicking noise when turning.
• On 4/5/2009, A Synthetic Blend Oil Change was performed, An Alignment Check was performed. The vehicle had 110, 534 miles. Also, the Service Advisor recommended Struts as well as Half Shaft (Front-Left). Please note per Firestone (customer invoice #105563) this service was performed on 6/14/2006.
According to the web page maintained by Firestone Complete Auto Care, under Transmission Service, it states that Firestone Complete Auto Care follows the vehicle’s manufacturer’s recommended service interval to perform a complete transmission flush however, also per the maintain your auto section of the webpage maintained by Firestone Complete Car Care, transmission service is not a scheduled maintenance for the Mazda 626 at 69, 233 miles. (Please see attached copies of Firestone Complete Auto Care – Maintenance Schedule.)
On 12/ 31/ 2008 I was not advised by the Service technician that Mazda does not specifically recommend Transmission servicing for the 2002 Mazda 626. If the representative was knowledgeable and not being deceptive to make a sale, he should have advised me to take the vehicle to a qualified Transmission specialist for service due to the extensive damage to the transmission pan seal (gasket) that would have to be replaced as well as the filter needing to be changed.
As a consumer and customer of Firestone Complete Auto care, I have the right to be protected against deceptive, fraudulent and unfair practices and from the above events, it is clear that Firestone and the Service Advisors practiced and committed deceptive acts.
Please keep in mind that I had no idea of the “Half Shaft Scam” until I scrounged through all of my invoices from Firestone Car Care Center on or about May 1, 2009.
Firestone did reimburse me for the Half Shaft - In May, 2009
Also, the noise that I took my car in for on December 31, 2008 happened to be wheel bearings.
These are the emails correspondances between the Assitant District Manager - Dan Yurko an myslf.
Firestone deflects blame from the begnning and they also impliment policies as thy go along.

Subject: RE: 2002 Mazda 626 - Claim # 1164709
Ms. Lucas, thank you for your documents and the opportunity to allow me to help you. I would like to address your concerns and request some additional information:
In your initial contact to our consumer affairs department, you stated that you took your car to the “dealer” for inspection concerning your transmission issue – My car was never taken to any dealer regarding any transmission problems. When I had the problem with my car to arise on Saturday, April 25, 2009, after I spoke to the Service Advisor for Firestone, I contacted the Mazda dealer by telephone on Monday, April 27, 2009.
The dealer cannot nor will they diagnose your transmission over the telephone. You are “assuming” that our services or they way in which we have serviced your transmission has somehow damaged your transmission. Unless you have documented statements from a certified transmission repair center or Mazda dealer in writing supporting your claim, we are denying this claim. If you can provide this requested and detailed failure documentation, I will open a claim for this issue and put it under advisement with a 3rd party Inspection Company.
You also said they told you that the gasket and filter were not changed Did the “dealer” state what failed and why? If so, I need this written diagnosis from them as part of this claim. I need to know what they are say has failed and why it has failed. Additionally, which Mazda dealer was it please.
Please keep in mind that Firestone Care Center has been the only place I have taken my car for service with the exception Mazda in 2003. At that time there was a Firestone on Stonewall Street in Charlotte NC. I had the radiator flushed at that particular location and the technician did not replace the cap so Mark the Manager at that branch had my car diagnosed by Montgomery Mazda. Again, if you can provide this requested and detailed failure documentation, I will open a claim for this issue and put it under advisement with a 3rd party Inspection Company.
Visual inspection of the seal is indicative that on 12/331/2008 Firestone did not change the seal on nor did they advise me that I needed to have the seal replaced or the filter changed. Who did the visual inspection?
In your letter, you state that you were not aware of a “half-shaft scam”. There was no direct accusation as to what you mean by scam. I could only assume that you were speaking of our service center recommending replacing a half shaft again. Would you please clarify that for me before I can comment on it? The Service Advisor recommended the Half Shaft Front Right be repaired however, the front left was repaired when I took the car in for repair 11 days later. Did you address this issue at the time of repair? If so, what was the location staff explanation?
Would you kindly outline your accusation of deceptive acts? Why would the service advisor recommend a repair on the Front Right Half Shaft, order the part and repair the Front Left…..which put my life and the life of my family in danger.
Also when I took my car on 12/31/2008 for diagnosis of a noise, they did not tell me that the wheel bearings needed to be replaced. Who advised you of the overlooked wheel bearings? Please provide written documentation or repair estimate so I can follow-up with the location manager and service manager at our location.
I have a lot of documentation, invoices and information. I would like to address each of your concerns, but need you to directly list your accusations. I will address each and every one of them.
Thank you again for giving me the opportunity. Thank you for responding promptly and I hope the above clarifications. Also, since the Service Advisor was unable to specifically tell me what type of transmission fluid was used in my vehicle or what type of Transmission Flush machine was used on 12/31/2008, would you kindly find out and let me know. Thanks!

On January 22nd I went to Firestone Complete Auto Care in Baytown, Texas to replace my tires. I asked them to check my brakes because they were making noises and it didnt feel right when I braked. They told me my brakes were fine and that I had 50% of my break pads left. The brakes pads did not need to be replaced. However, for 50$ they could maintance and clean the breaks. So I gave them the go ahead and to do the break maintance to preserve the life of my brakes. On Febuary 13th I got into my car and I noticed that I had to push down harder on my brakes and I heard a horrible grinding sound. The next day I took my car back to the same Firestone to have them check my brakes and change my oil. They told me that I didn't have any brake pads left and it was metal on metal. They also told me that I needed to replace the brake pads, turn the roaters, and replace the calipers. I told the manager that I just came up their less than a month ago and they told me they were fine and that I paid to have the brakes maintanced and if they had actually did the job they would have noticed that the brake pads were almost gone. I also told Bill (AKA- Firestone Manager) that I had been driving around for almost a month with no breaks and what if I were in an accident. Bill told me that if I were in a accident that they obviously would be liable. Bill told me for my inconvience that he would give me the oil change for free. However, they didn't change my oil at all! If they would have did the job I paid them for, they would have noticed the brake pads, and their would not be as much damage as their was. So it would have been cheaper to fix the breaks, because all I would have had to do is replace the pads.
scam and cheating
I am pretty disappointed at the way Firestone Irving (5410 N Macarthur Blvd, Irving) tried to rip me. My old car was giving some noises when one turned the steering wheel especially in the mornings when the car has not run for a while. Firestone recommended that an immediate replacement of rack and pinion is needed - price quote $920 for parts and labor. When I checked the price of the part in Advance Auto Parts it was about $150 less than what Firestone quoted for the part.
I took the car to PepBoys Irving (opposite Irving Mall) the next day, they quoted almost $300 less than Firestone (parts+labor). When I asked if the fix is essential, they told it was "nice to have" since there is no hazard involved. They gave me a cheaper alternative of having $12 hydraulic liquid filled in. PepBoys is honest, trustworthy and a true friend. My total bill at PepBoys was $39 - no noise now.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
While your exp. at firestone was a bad one, the fact of the matter is that your "older car" will and does need to be repaired from time to time, see your owners manual. You are still driving around with your rack and pinion that even in your's and Pep boy's word's are "nice to have", it can fail without warning! whining when turning is an indication of a problem. While I agree with you about the price, firestone is in the business of repairing vechile's. Pep boy's is a part's store FIRST! and in the automotive repair second. That being said you should also ask yourself and others why they are closing over 50 of their stores. I'm sure that firestone marks up the price of parts from whereever they get them, but that's business...

Manager refused to honor manufacturers warranty on a tire less than a year old. Warranty was explicit that it should be taken to the nearest Firestone Care Center for the tire to be returned/repaired but the Manager refused to honor it and insisted that I needed to call Firestone corporate and have the tire shipped to be addressed. Again, warranty language explicitly stated that warranty would be supported by local dealerships. The warranty also provided keying instructions for store personnel on how to handle tire replacement!
I strongly recommend staying away from this place. No integrity at all and very dishonest in their service.

Firestone in Lawton ok on 38th street, Were to start vehicle I had my vehicle towed in. After vehicle was there for over four hours with no answers
I went in to check on progress . I was greeted by a rude female manager who told me the vehicle had just arrived (Arrival timed confirmed by tow bill to be 1:15 pm ) Its now after five and my vehicle is trashed pulled apart like a hack job, . After wasting two days of my time I was contacted by Firestones alleged professional manager that had nothing to tell me other than it had to be towed to another shop. I guess I should have chosen another shop if I expected good service and qualified technicians . local dealership was able to trouble shoot in one hour but required additional time to put vehicle interior back together . I will also have to spend my time to find and relocate personal items that were stored in cab back in the cab as these items were thrown in the back of the vehicle . An example of this would be a cooler, checks, envelopes, items still not accounted for include cell charger, pocket knife, gas card. not implying anything other than they treated my vehicle poorly. will never return or suggest this business to anyone .
price gouging
Went for brake service and noted a substancial increase in price over previous year. Found out that the cost of my pads increased %100 from previous year. District manager claimed previous proces were wrong. However when I rearched the same product at retail - it was %50 less. The pads were even %22 less straight from the dealer. The Firestone District manager claimed that the price is either made up in parts and labor. Funny how this occurred while a coupon was running..huh
I went to a Firestone store in Des Moines, Iowa . I know when my truck went into the stall to be worked on, and when it came out, I seen what the labor was and how many hours they worked on my truck, the labor was 167.00 per hour. I asked them about this they said they go by a book, if the book says it takes 4 hours to work on a part and it only takes 2 hours they still charge 4 hours of labor, THAT IS BS...
Firestone complete auto care is a rip-off. Never, never use them. They charged me 250.00 for a remanufactured starter and installed a 110.00 battery without asking me if that is what I wanted.
they are crooks
The manager tried to intimidate me that I needed $800.00 worth of brake work and that I could pull out of the driveway and crash if I didn't get the work done. I am not a stupid female and took my car elsewhere. I only needed front brakes and got them fixed for $150.00 from somebody else. Nothing was leaking like firestone said. The other person fixed the problem quickly. Firestone took 3 hours to give me the estimate. They made me wait an extra 40 minutes just to give my keys. I will never go there again. I suggest you don't either. This was 10141 balboa in Northridge.

I AGREE. THE STORE AT VOSS & HILLCROFT IN HOUSTON TX. TRIED TO SELL ME A NEW BATTERY & NEW ALTERNATOR FOR $630.08. I DECLINED THE SERVICE, TOOK THE NEXT DAY TO MY VOLVO DEALER, THEY CHARGED ME $ 62.76 AFTER TIGHTING A CABLE & SERVICING MY AC SYSTEM. THIS NOT THE FIRST TIME I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS AT THIS STORE. I PURCHASED TWO TIRES, THEY PUT TWO DIFFERENT SIZES ON MY CAR. WHEN I RETURN BECAUSE THE CAR WAS SHAKING AT 70 MILES, I WAS TOLD I NEEDED A RELINGMENT. AFTER TAKING IT TO MY REPAIR PERSON I WENT BACK & TOLD THEM THAT THE PROBLEM WAS. THEY CHANGED THE TIRES. I WILL NOT GO BACK TO A FIRESTONE AGAIN. BETTY R.
Unethical
Used a $20 coupon to get an oil change/tire rotation - no complaint there. Service guy showed me that my air filter needed to be changed - for $30. I figure I can do this myself for $15. So I said "no". However, I think that they purposely re-screwed my cover back so tight that it made it extremely difficult for me to open it myself. They knew I was going to do the replacement myself. Not only that, but they quoted me $690 of recommended repair on my 2006 Accord that only had 30K miles. Are you kidding me? I know sales is important, but that's going beyond...

I just came back from another mechanic who had to fix a botched up job by Firestone. I had my front breaks replaced by them in Redlands, Ca. After I picked up the car it made clunking and grinding noises. So I went back right away. The guy tells me to give it a few days. I gave it a few weeks. Brought it back after calling consumer affairs. Supposedly they had fixed and readjusted things, saying there was something wrong with the hardware. They never told me what hardware it was. After two months of squeaking and grinding and chafing I went to a different mechanic. This is what they found. The back brakes were horribly missadjusted. The front brakes after two months had 40% wear and the pads had circle groves in them almost the whole depht, something that should never have happened. I wished I could get my money back. However, I can report them and say Mrs. McKelvey
Completely agree. They have come up with a costly repair issue each time I take the car there. I was recently charged with $1400 with lots of billing issues. I am still waiting for a credit to my credit card account.
Firestone Complete Care Care Centers are corporate owned, and they all go through training to not over-recommend parts or service that vehicles do not need. If this is happening, it needs to be reported to corporate level at [protected], M-F 8-5 CST. They will release any employee found to be doing this, as it's against company policy. No, I do not work for FS, but I know someone who does. There are also FS stores that are not corporate but use the FS name, who DO engage in some of these negative types of behaviors. They should be reported to your local Better Business Bureau, if they're a member, or the state Dept of Consumer Protection, for unlawful practices. Yeah, there are shady mechanics out there everywhere, but one bad apple doesn't need to spoil the bunch. To all, I'd say, research your auto care facility, ask questions, be a good consumer. A good shop will always show you the parts removed from your car, never over-recommend, give you a written estimate and stay within 10% of that amount, and finish the job on time. If it's not right, ask for it to be remedied, and go to a higher level if you feel it's required. Don't be ridiculous in your claims, however. Know what you're talking about, and don't try to get more than you're due either.
In your case, Fipster, your vehicle IS still aging, even with lower mileage. 30K on a 2006 still means you need your regular services done- check your manual to find them. They aren't free and they will add up, you know. I have a 2006 Chrysler Town & Country that needs tie rod ends at 18K...it happens, you know, and you should also have a warranty, right? What services did they itemize out onyour bill? I just find this odd.
I also find it interesting that you seem so put-off that they tightened your air filter cover. If they hadn't, you'd probably complain that it was loose. They tightened it according to safety regulations and manufacturer standards. It's not meant to just pop right off...why do you think those guys are so dirty all the time? A little elbow grease is always required. ;)

Waste-Knot

Hopefully with our postings, people will be aware to not go to such places for service.

We took our 1997 Mercury Mountaineer to Firestone service center at 14089 New Halls Ferry Rd. for brakes, we were told that we needed a left front hub assembly. Now we need the whole story, were there aluminum wheels on this vehicle and did the customer retorque the lug nuts 25 to 30 miles after the tires were put on. The problem with aluminum rims is they oxidize on the back of the wheel and no matter how tight you get the lug nuts, when driving around the wheel will seat on the hub and you may notice
one or all the lug nuts a quarter of a turn loose, but if left unattended they will all loosen up and ruin lugs and or the wheel. Most people scoff at this but it does happen.
