unfriendly workers
I used to love going to fitness 19, in fact i used to prefer it and promote it over larger gyms like Lifetime and LA fitness. But recently it seems more and more like the gym has gone downhill. The workers there are unfriendly, mostly sits around and talks to their friends. Its mostly the girl workers. A common 'hello' and 'bye' would be substantial but even though i say bye to the workers in the front they ignore me and then eventually responds with an attitude. I won't be unfair and talk about the other workers there. The male workers seems cool, they work out with the members there and are fairly friendly, but i can't stand a few of the female workers. I'm not expecting much, I just would like to go to the place where i unwind after a tough day but coming to a place with rude workers isn't where its at. Plus, the gym is being filled with people who just stands around and talk, keeping people who is there to actually work out from doing so. Sorry Fitness 19 on Sugarloaf, but you've disappointed me and other fellow members there who i have also spoken to.

poor facility, poor staff
My family and I have been members for about 3 years, since it opened. I understand "you get what you pay for", however, this place is overcrowded, smells bad all the time, has windows that always have condensation on the inside and the equipment is not kept in proper working condition. For example, I spoke with the Manager, Ryan, on several occasions about equipment with split open covers. I explained issues with the spread of bacteria, the cracks hurting your elbows when working out and the fact that we pay a yearly fee to pay for upkeep of equipment. The same pieces of equipment have had this issue for months. He always has an excuse, ie. "I have the stuff on order", "I need a hex wrench", etc. I told him he was good with excuses. In any case, the equipment is in disrepair, the gym is over capacity and there is lack of concern for how the gym operates. Should another gym open up close to my home that is reasonably priced, I'll ditch Fitness 19 for sure.
continual charges after cancellation
We cancelled our fitness membership here and they conveniently misplaced the cancellation forms and have been charging us for the past couple of months. We have called them to get an explanation and they never got back to us, so we went to the facility to get an explanation of why we were still being charged and they said we had never cancelled our account! Ridiculous! How many times do you need to contact a business before they stop charging you. The management was rude and still haven't got back to us with a response. Terrible service and scam your money! Don't trust them with any paperwork.
I joined May 2011 and signed myself and my husband up with the new facility. After talking with my husband, and after only a couple of days, I asked the assistant manager to cancel my husbands membership. He only wanted me to join. The man was very kind and said he will take care of it, no problem. When they opened in the middle of June and after we noticed the monthly payment did not change, we asked the assistant manager again to cancel my husbands membership. He said couldn't find my file and would get back to me later. He never did. I returned the several days later. The assistant referred me to the manager. After talking, I decided for her to apply 4 more personal training on my account with the credit they owed me at the time and I will pay to difference when it was balanced out. I stopped going in September after vacation and never went back because they still charging us for both me and my husband as of this month, December. After fighting for our credit, I feel now that I will end up cancelling too. Get with it!
Fitness USA does the same thing. Never give one of these fitness outfits your credit card number or pay with a personal check. If they insist (which they often will), then walk. I got out of a never used Fitness USA account because that credit card expired and the bank notified me that they were pestering them for my new expiration date! This occurred after I notified them several times that I wished to cancel the account. These outfits are notorious for this practice.
happy with fitness 19
I've been a member of Fitness 19 for 7 years and have had a very good experience. Honestly people, what do you expect for $12-$19 a month...Ritz Carlton?
If you want pools, spas, nutrition shakes, showers that give you plantar warts and a pedicure at a gym pay $70-$100 a month and don't door dink the BMW's in the parking lot.
I switched from Lifetime Fitness to Fitness 19 because it was more affordable and close to my home. I work out alot more consistently and at 40 am in the best shape of my life. When i need to mix up my workout, I hire a personal trainer to develop a new program. Watch for specials on training packages that can get them down to around $25-30 each...half the price of my former Trump-like gym.
They also submit my $19/month to my insurance and if i go 12 times i get reimbursed so it is actually free! Sometimes I think that people writing negative reviews online are former employees who stole or slacked off, got fired then go online and rant. Just my2 cents as
a HAPPY fitness 19 customer.

dishonest
The owner of this gym will tell you that youre irresponsible and you have no integrity if you cancel your membership. He'll also tell you they didn't take a payment out on one month during a membership hold when they did. Then he'll try to tell you you're a liar about who you spoke with when you know it was him and the paperwork proves it. It's a joke. I was told I was a liar about 3 different things. 2 out of those 3 things had paperwork to prove that I was
being honest, but he wom't apologize to you when he sees that he wrongly just told you youre full of it. Im thrilled my membership is over. Consumer beware. This gym is owned by a man with zero integrity and no professionalism.

i was injured at the fitness 19 in bellflower by the trainer who adjusted the seat wrong, when i came back to receive my refund ($200 I paid cash) they promised in full but only gave me half. When I told them how i was treated (after being injured the trainer left me didn't fill out a report or tell the manager or help me to my car) the manager shrugged told me i still use the gym. I told them I was also signed up under false information such as the trainer was certified for working with people in my condition (amputee) he began to yell at me in front of other customers and claim it was untrue and he could fax me a copy of the document (I have yet to get said paperwork) they gave me all but $20 back just to be petty told me i would hear from the district manager that also has yet to happen. There's a reason why they don't charge much it's because this company has no business sense or morals
cancaellation days
I called to ask to cancel my membership, I was told I had to come in and fill out a form. I went in on Sunday to cancel and when I got there was told that you cannot cancel on the weekends. WHAT! I asked if I could sign up on a weekend d was told yes, when asking what the different once all I was told was that they got in trouble for canalling memberships on he weekends. I asked to speak with a manager and was told no one was there, I asked when they would be there and was told they come in whenever they want and we do not know. She told my name and said she would have them cancel Monday morning; all of a sudden I do not have to be there. Horrible customer service on behalf of the owner. The young lady that I talked with at the gym was pleasant.
Overcharged for personal training sessions and it has been a month and the charge still has not been corrected. Received flyer from Fitness 19 for discounted training sessions but they will not honor. The coupon does not say anything about restrictions. Looks like time to make a change since it is impossible to talk to anyone in charge about this. Everyone passes the buck to people who "aren't working" at the time I'm there.
bad communication
to whom concern i joined fitness 19 about month or so ago i go work out once a week for one hour or less in free left weights area just mind my on business don't talk to any one cuz i only have short time to get my exercise never had been told about dress code i go work out in between work hours so i get no time to change and like i say no one has told me...
Read full review of Fitness 19 and 1 commentbilling process
The Fitness 19 of Canton Michigan has a very unethical billing policy in place. Customers whose billing is set up via credit card are not notified if the card expires or is denied. No phone call or letter was ever made to get account corrected. I was never notified that the billing was in default due to a change in credit card number and mistakenly assumed the membership had been cancelled. However I received a letter 7 months later for the amount that had accrued. They admitted they had made no attempt to call or contact me until right before the account was scheduled for collections. I would not recommend this gym to anyone that doesn't want to be scammed.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
If you got a change in credit card, then as a consumer it is YOUR responsibility to go through any recurring payments you have off of that card and update the companies so they have your accurate number. Gyms have numerous upon numerous members, and to keep track of every part of the billing information for each member is impossible. As the consumer, that is your responsibility if any of your credit card information changes, not theirs. Also, you assumed it was cancelled? How did you reach that conclusion? If you assumed it was cancelled, shouldn't you have called them and asked about your membership? I'm sure if you took the responsibility to be a good consumer none of this would have happened. Don't blame the gym for your account going into collections, blame yourself.
there is no complaint
You people on this complaint list are all ###ed. First of all, they don't decieve anyone. They lay it all right out there, they are a no frills workout center. I mean for chits sake, what do you expect to get for less than 20 bucks a month? I think they provide awesome services for the money. Some ### on here even complained about not having a paper towel dispenser, so go to the rest room and use some toilet paper ###, or bring you own tissue to wipe your pansey ### nose. You want all the stupid bells and whistles, and hang out with a bunch of vain, pretentious people, then go to another club and pay a hundred bucks a month, or more. And they don't cheat you out of any money either. When you sign up, they tell you straight off, you can either pay first and last months dues right away, or hold it off and just pay the first months dues, and by doing that, once you quit, you will be billed for one more month. Just all you people ### about that don't pay the frik attention, and are all surprised when you get one more bill after you quit. Go get your A.D.D checked out ###s! The equipment is above par for the price you pay, the clubs are always clean, and there's no, "I think I'm a super model" duschebags pretending to work out as they flutter about in front of the mirrors. Anyone that complains about Fitness 19 is a ###. And NO I don't work for them, I just work out there, and obviously I'm very happy with them.
I guarantee the author of this review is a Fitness 19 corporate tool.
quoted price on phone when arrived would not honor price
Marcus at the Wildomar California Fitness 19 location on the phone when I inquired regarding a 2 month price for my son to use the gym, Marcus quoted me $50.00 for two months, I asked him total 50.00 for the 2 months which is all my son needs since he is leaving for college and wants to work-out with his friend for the summer. When I got there the same day and at the time I told Marcus we would be arriving he flat out to my face lied and said he was only giving me an example of some options, which he never did he quoted the fifty dollars and I asked him twice through out the conversation if that was the total price for 2 months he again said yes if you pay up front the total $50.00. The tried to bait and switch me and upset my son because I would not go for their gimmicks. This was very upsetting and would never do business with an establishment that was basically saying I was lying as they were lying to me. If Marcus would of said come in and we will work out a deal that is one thing, but to quote a price and not honor it is WRONG!

cancellation-personal training
I cancelled personal training because the male trainer began calling me from his personal cell phone before our training began. It made me feel uncomfortable that he was calling me to see "how I was doing". This is a simple question that could've been asked at our initial training session. Why he felt the need to ask me several times in one week is wierd. I hand wrote a letter to cancel within the 5 day cancellation period. The manager, Micah, advised me it would take a week to get a refund. It has been 2 weeks and everytime I have called to speak to him, he is not there. I tried to find a corporate number online & they don't have one! You are on your own. After being persistent, I was able to speak to Danielle. She was great and handled the situation better than Michah! She found my file in the wong pile and Micah had not even signed off on releasing the check yet! Danielle was awesome and she informed the head accounts manager about my situation so It can be handled right away. I have yet to see when I will get my check. She promised me it would take 2 days after Michah signs off on it. My advice to everyone is..find another gym!

Im currently a member of fitness 19 and am working with a trainer. Who was the trainer so I can make sure I don't get them
customer service
Don't go to the Buffalo Grove location. They don't care about their members, only about making money. I was paying 19 a month for 2 years, decided I wanted to leave, and they offered to lower it to $11 a month to keep me. I decided to still leave. About a week later I got a job near BG and called them back to see if I could still get that great deal. Nope, nothing, no reasoning, they just wanted me to repay the useless joke joining fee and start paying the regular amount again. Keep in mind, while they are sending coupons to have a friend join and pay only $15 a month. That makes sense, I want to pay $19 while my friend gets to pay $15. If you absolutely must join this ### run gym, I suggest the one on Dundee. What a joke. Oh and by the way, after I told the guy on the phone that I wasn't going to rejoin and pay the fee again after that $11 a month offer, he let me know that I wouldn't be finding a better deal anywhere else. Even if I have to negotiate and pay a little more somewhere else, I'm not going back to that dump. Jerkoff. Learn some customer service skills!

The customer service at Fitness 19 in Westminster, CO is terrible. My account was on hold, because I wasn't using the membership. I tried repeatedly to cancel it, and got repeatedly dicked around. Every person I talked to on the phone told me something different, my calls were NEVER returned, and now they've reactivated my accound without my consent. I was unable to come in to sign the cancellation paperwork b/c I was out of state, so I was told to fax some info to them. Then they claimed my fax never got there, and the girl in charge of billing would NEVER return my call.
Aside from that, the place sucks to work out at. The machines are frequently broken, it's either way too hot or way too cold, and on top of that there's a trainer there who was a total creeper... he was the reason I stopped going to this place.
All I can say is STAY AWAY!
Special deals are special deals. Should have taken it when you had the chance instead of getting angry later. Do you go back to Jewel to get the better deal on the bread you bought the week before now that the sale price is lower?
cancelling membership
My daughter signed up for a membership while attending Shasta College. She canceled her membership because of knee surgery and moving away from the facility. She was told to write a letter to cancel which she did. That was in December of 2010. Since then we have been calling every month to see why this has not been canceled. They state they didnt receive the letter and that they dont remember talking to us. Her membership was set to automatic billing. DONT DO THIS! It is almost impossible to cancel the membership without disputing the charges. I asked if they had a fax to resend the letter and they stated it was only for gym to gym that they could not use a fax. Also asked about emailiing me a cancellation notice and they said they couldnt do that either. They were supposed to send me a cancellation in the mail which I am still waiting for. This is ridiculous. A business that has many locations not operating with everyday office equipment. Do not use this facility!

Great gym, until you try canceling. Even after you cancel they will still charge you for an additional month that you are not there, even if they do not have any gyms in your area. If you move, you have to travel back there to cancel in person, because they will absolutely do no over the phone cancellations and will actually belittle you, argue with you and insult you. I rate this gym 0 Stars for customer service. Very terrible gym. Absolutely no customer service or appreciation. Choose a different gym...
They verbally explain the contract in order to get you to sign it and they do not cover the entirety of the contract which is illegal. They leave out the cancellation policies.
I have been trying to cancel for almost a year. Do NOT use this company.
unprofessional
I went to go check out Fitness 19 on a Thursday night around 8pm because I'm moving to this area and I wanted to see what this type of gym offers. So when I went inside to get some info on this gym I saw some employees playing football in the gym instead of helping me or other people at the gym out. Also I have a son so I might bring him with me so I can...

Do not sign up they are thieves. When you cancel your membership they still charge you one more month for the services you have canceled over 2 weeks ago. When I Questioned them about the charges they told me their was a 30 day notice needed therefore they can steal your money for one month that you can't use their facility.

The current manager of fitness 19 is condisending, rude, ignorant, and treats his employees like trash. Since he has become mananger, the hygiene of the gym has dropped. Machines are falling apart. Employees of this gym are constantly being hired and quitting. When will the owners learn what the problem is.
After canceling my membership 7/14 (I do have the cancellation paper) they charged me within the following 30 which I guess is ok. They charged me another month after that and I called in. They said it was a mistake on their part and that they are refunding that charge back to my account. I left it at that and last week april 2012 I received a letter that there was a problem charging my credit card and I should come in and pay the fee. Looks like they kept charging my account almost one year after my cancellation! Unacceptable. I went in a couple days ago he told me he is going to take care of this mistake from their end but he never called yesterday as he promised. Nice job Fitness 19.
It says it on the "contract" you signed!
that's because you're the idiot, not the club. When you sign up, they give you the option of paying for two months in advance...in other words, first and last months rent basically. I guarantee you that when you signed up, you only paid for one month, and the TOLD you that when you quit, you would be billed for one more month. They're not thieves, you're just ###ed
A 30 day written notice sounds pretty standard. Better than an 18 month contract that you can't get out of at other facilities
when you sign up they tell you ahead of time that you will be billed one last time and can use their facilities for the remainder of the thirty days.
worst customer service
I signed up with the gym before it was built and asked if I moved out of the area would I get my deposit back and was assured I would. I moved before the gym opened and Rick Collins REFUSED to refund my money when he is the one who assured me I would get it back when he signed me up. They also tried to bill me twice-watch your bank statements if you dare to sign up for their sub-par gym. They truely care only about getting your money! Two thumbs DOWN!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I understood exactly what u are talking aout this same guy tried to screw me over talking me down like I was an idiot. I did the rule of canceling 30 days prior and then he said there was an issue in my account that they did not receive my last payment voiding my cancelation. So I would have to redo another cancelation & trying charge late fee.I paid that last payment. I gave them my bank statements saying there is money in my account & I just got paid direct deposit. They never had a problem before with getting money except my last payment. Trying to keep me locked in. He treated me like I was a stupid woman and didnt know what I was talking about. I got very angry did not even want to come back to finish my last two sessions with my trainer.. that was fully paid off already. My trainer well trainers because my original one I had was gone I wasnt even notified until I needed another appointment with him and that is when I found out my trainer left and took my contract with him.. but the trainers I did like. Now they tried to get another payment in September knowing I was fully canceled and I have proof because I made RICK write me some proof. I called there and told them they need to situate this and hopefully they do.. So if they ever try to go to my credit to start anything I have proof... The manager has no good customer relation and treated me like I have no brains. He really needs to step up or needs to be replaced.
'signed me up' is the key phrase here.
Where contracts are involved, it is vitally important that what the salesman 'promises' you actually exists in the document you are signing.
unpleasant facility
This complaint is directed at a specific Fitness19 facility; the one located in McIntyre Square, Mcknight Road in Ross Township PA. Joined this club due to its convenient location, low cost and mix of free weights for myself and machines & cardio equipment for my wife and daughter... unfortunately this turned out to be a very poorly considered combination...

I went in to cancel my membership, and after badgering and guilting me to continue the membership for several minutes, they told me they were going to charge me the monthly AND annual renewal fee anyway. They refused to refund me the annual fee, saying it was in the contract. The monthly fee I can understand, but the contract only stipulates that I would be charged the monthly fee if I canceled after a certain day. What a huge ripoff!

I also had problems cancelling my membership. I went in to cancel in April and was notified I had to put in 30-days notice (really? to cancel a GYM membership?). The guy I spoke with went over all my possible option and wasted a good 20 minutes of my time. I told him I hadn't used the gym in close to two years and want to cancel. Finally, after turning down the other options, he explained that one more payment would come out in May and then my membership would be cancelled. I asked if I needed to sign anything and he said it was not necessary since he documented everything in the computer. I was billed in May but also in June and twice in July. I went in to see about a refund and it turns out he had never documented my cancellation in the first place. He then attempted to pull all kinds of moves to pinpoint the problem on me and did everything short of verbally accuse me of trying to scam the system. He pulled up my contract and said I was called in June about my membership and found it odd that I didn't come in then. I let him know that no one from the gym had called. He said he had documentation of multiple phone calls. He tried asking me for the specific date I came in to cancel, which I didn't remember. He alluded to the fact that I had lied about coming in since I didn't know the date. I felt like I had done something wrong when in fact he was the one that intentionally did not cancel my policy so payments would continue to be withdrawn. When he refused to refund my money, I asked for a supervior's number and he claimed to be the manager. When I asked for the person above him he refused togive me a name and number for the longest time. When he eventually did, he ended up just giving me the number of another branch.
This is the most unethical customer service I have come across. After reading complaints online, it seems that they have a policy of scamming their customers. Stay clear of this gym!
I'm from Fresno, Ca and they did the same EXACT thing to me. It was a horrible experience there. I would never, never recommend anyone to that gym. The hours are horrible and their customer service is down the drain. I was only there for a few months and I wasted my time and money there. Never again will I join a gym. Dont give this gym a try it will scam you with every penny that you have. They give you tons of forms to look at to hide all the hidden charges to make sure you dont read it. Horrible work ethics!
fraud
Nice option that is close to home, great machines and free weights available. Unfortunately, this is not a compliment. Frequently the open shift is NOT there. Supposed to open at 5:00 am, it's not 6:42 and we're outside waiting to get it. Happens quite often, now I missed today's workout! I'm on a planned routine for a reason!
The website doesn't offer info on who to contact with complaints, and we've advised of people being late on a nubber of occassions, obviously to no avail!
How can I find/reach corporate offices?
I signed up over the phone. Was told one price, but a higher price was taken from my account. I canceled & noticed all kinds of money taken out of my account from them. I called & was told about annual fees, etc. that were NEVER mentioned to me when I signed up. DO NOT SIGN UP WITH THIS SCAM Fitness 19!
My husband was transferred from Fresno to Santa Maria, so I took my letter to Fitness 19 cancelling my membership, then hand delivered it Aug.29, 2011. They are still billing me eight months later. I sent them another letter with a copy of my original letter, sent it registered mail. Micheal, manager of Clovis Ca Fit 19, signed for letter. Fitness 19 is still harrassing, turned me over to collections. Mrs Moore from Universal Recovery called me, April 25, 2012. She didn't care if I had copies of my letters and the signed receipt for the registered letter. She said "I don't care what you have,
my job is to collect your money. We will be reporting this to your credit file." I can not believe these people, they are rude, no help with problems, and I don't know what to do about it except take them to court. Beth Mccady

They won't stop billing my credit card, even though I CANCELLED it and have quit the club months ago. They billed me again last month even after I got it in writing that they would STOP.
