customer service skills
I just ran to jewel to get some gift cards for prizes I'm giving out today for my staff. They totaled $110. I had my CASH out and ready to pay when the lady (Diane) says, "hold on". She calls some other lady (I'm assuming the manager at the customer service counter) and says "I have someone purchasing $110 in mixed gift cards, can I do this with her?" She then says "YES, SHE LOOKS NORMAL" - what? I'm advised her that I was paying cash. Diane then said "oh, well you look normal so it's fine. There's a lot of scams going on".
Seriously? It's $110, not $500 or $1000 and I was paying CASH. Scammers pay with credit card. And normal?! What does that mean? Compared to what? Was I considered normal because I look white? Because I'm a 30-something female? If I had a disability, or a different colored skin tone? Or maybe if I was too skinny or too fat or too tired looking, would I still be considered "normal"? Also, I was able to over look the fact that Diane ignored two customers in front of me because she was chatting with a coworker that was going to to lunch (who was also in line buying something), but then to be completely made to feel like I was doing something wrong by purchasing from your store. I am so offended that I will never step into this store again. I, as the consumer, should have NEVER heard that conversation between your employees.
pepsi/coke special
We live in Chicago, IL (COOK COUNTY). Since the "soda tax" went into effect, I would have my husband pick up our soda when he would have meetings outside of the county. We've been doing this all summer and soon it's coming to an end December 1st. We have always said "we're doing two transactions" or three and nobody has ever said a word. Yes, I know there's a limit but it's NEVER been enforced before. Why wouldn't you just take the sale and not worry about it? We tell the cashiers that we've come from the city, how ridiculous the tax is, etc. Today the cashier said, "oh, I don't know if we can do that" and calls the manager (Kevin Mull) over the phone/speaker and he said "no". "Come back tomorrow". My husband offered to go out to the car and come back in. He offered to return after his meeting. Kevin could have been a little bit flexible. He could have said "I'll make an exception in this case but just so you know..." or something along those lines instead of angering everyone involved and losing the sale! Money is money. The customer wants to buy more soda. Just let him! Yes, I know it's the rule but when NOBODY follows it (except Kevin) you can see where the customers are going to get miffed. My husband said he got loud because it was so stupid. He felt bad for the cashiers. There are "rules", there's common sense (more money for the company if I turn a blind eye to a stupid rule like everyone else does), and there's going along to get along...why rile everyone up by saying "no" when, if you just let it go, everyone is happy?
constantly running out of stock
The Jewel in Oswego is constantly running out of cases of Desani water 16.9 fl oz bottles. Also, I buy Purina One Smart Blend pairings chicken and Turkey recipe. I can only buy 4-5 cans at a time because that’s all there is on the shelf, yet Jewel generates coupons for money off buying 8 or more. I can never use the coupons since there aren’t enough on the shelf. In the liquor isle, they run out of Svedka and Sobieski vodka. In the dairy section, they run out of Lenders Plain bagels. The list goes on. Someone needs to address their ordering/stocking inadequacies.
manager attitude
My name is Kathy Srednicki and my Brother Timothy Byrd has been shopping at Jewel in wauconda for years. This year he has been fighting lukemia and recently has been able to go short distances to jewel without help to shop. He is very susceptible to getting very ill if exposed to sickness from others due to his immune system. He must wear a mask over his mouth and medical gloves to prevent exposure. Upon entering jewel Osco in wauconda last week a male manager approached my brother in a rude manner and asked him to take his mask off. My brother was very insulted that this was the behavior after he even explained why he was wearing it. This attitude is appalling to me since I almost lost my brother to this illiness and I too have shopped here for him when he was ill because he likes this store . Please ask your managers to be more sensitive to others in the future . If I find out the name of this manager I will personally confront him about this because I am very upset about this situation!
Very pissed off !

cashier lack of customer service skills
I had the most unpleasant experience at my Jewel today in Franklin Park on Mannheim Road I had three of your Halloween paper towels what's the price of three of them for $ $2 and I had one chocolate Entenmann's cake the sale price of the cake was 2 for $6 however I only wanted one which makes it a total of $3 I had $8.50 is my pocket the cashiers name was Steve 3:03 p.m. in the express lane I'm not sure what he was doing or where he was charging me for her suddenly my bill was $9.41 free Christian Kim he tried to justify some b******* and I wasn't buying when I felt that I was not being treated fairly and respectfully I told her forget the entire order I just wanted my money back Steve desperately needs more customer service skills he told me to go to customer service and file my complaint there and get my money back there lady who did help me there was great very kind and nice and respectful I am a 53 year old woman and I have been shopping with Jewel for great many years I've never had a disappointing experience ever once thank you very much for listening I appreciate it and I will continue to shop in your store but the next time I go into a check out lane there I will be looking to make sure that I'm not by him
butcher lady
I cometo the jewel Osco and do my grocery shopping all the time- I came in for a last minute run and I noticed the lady butcher putting paper covers on the meat/seafood. I needed some shrimp but I didn't want to be rude and ask her as I saw she was closing up. A man walks up to her at 916 and tells her if she can assist him and she says yes- so I went up there a minute later and asked her for some assistance as it seemed she was being helpful but it was only towards him because her response to me was she closed at 9pm. I watched the whole thing from when he went up to her so and when she told me no it was 917pm
It was funny because he even said to her "now a bunch of people are going to come up to you sorry"
I guess you pick and choose who you help - in this case I don't know what her reasoning was honestly. I'm a multi unit supervisor to several locations in my field and we constantly have lines and we never reject our customers even after The operational hours state we are closed IF we are still serving. I understand the area closes at 9pm but She should not serve anyone at 915pm if she is not willing to accommodate everyone that will come up to her- what makes his money more special than mine?
I have a complaint about a jewel I visit today
I have a complaint about a Jewel-Osco I was checking out and the manager come up to the Bagger and said what the [censor] are you doing we try to call you 3 times and I felt bad for the bagger what the manager was swearing to bagger in front of everybody I look at the name of the manager and it says deb a on name tag the Jewel-Osco was in Naperville on 95th and 59th street a manager should not be swearing at employee on the sales floor of store
oak forest deli
I have been to the Oak Forest deli many times, and every time I go there, there is one girl on the counter and about 5 or 6 people in the back doing nothing. I have waited there for about 45 minutes because of this, I have gone up to customer service and complained and nothing is happening. They need more workers there, I feel bad for the poor girl who is busting her [censor], while the others just stand their like frickin statues, I have heard her say, "I need some help up here and no one acknowledged that. Fix this problem or they are gonna lose lots of business for their department.

manager
Today, i was at Jewel-Osco foster and pulaski ave branch. I bought few kind of groceries and baby sipping cup that was regular price $8.99 and now they are under half percent off tag price. There were three or more same brand cups behind that tag line. When i checked out, the cup was full price, so i told the cashier howbit was 50% off. Cashier called person to ask the price. It took me almost 20 minutes. After that person came back and said price is $8.49, so i cancelled the item someone else was waiting behind me. Then, i go back to the baby section again and showed the girl the other cups. She was surprised and checked the barcodes and told me price tag barcode isn’t matching the cups barcode. Then she took all the cups and went to tell her manager can she give the cup by half price sonce they put in wrong place. When she came back and told me her manager said they can’t give the cup by half price. At that time, i was so pissed since it is not my position to check the barcodes, so went to see the manager myself. The manager seems doesn’t even care. She said she doesn’t know who put it there and she even accused i might put it there to get half price. She didn’t even say sorry. I am so mad. If it was only one cup i would understand that someone might put it there by accident. However, there were whole bunch of them at same place. I am so pissed about this manager acting, so i am asking for personal apology and responsibility. I spent my whole freaking hour at this stupid store.
marcia and black customer service lady working on 10/1/17 at 7:20 pm
I have never in my life been treated so rude by both these ladies on different days and times.Ive tried complaining before right after I leave ( on 3 occasions) but ''tis Kevin Derricco on top of receipt that says call him directly, doesn't have a voicemail to leave my complaints. So it's basically call the customer service desk and talk to the rude lady that u we're calling to complain on in the first. I've been a shopper at this jewel for over 20 years and everyone there is so nice but these 2 newer ladies r really turning people off to go somewhere else. IGNORANT [censor] EMPLOYEES. Transfer em out now. They are losing u guys business not welcoming them back!
bread. produce.
I have a jewel store around the Conner we're I live .and when I buy produce and sale items they are no good after two days some stuff has mold on the bttm like strawberry's .etc .bread etc I like the store but there stuff is not fresh most of the time and I spend money there .so I started going to and neighbor store and there produce is always good
no sugar added ice cream and yopliet greek 100 yogurt
Re ice cream. Being diabetic, I would like to see a few flavors. Our Jewel has only vanilla and butter pecan. It would be nice to see Edy's no sugar added with a few options.
With all the yogurts, they are missing Yopleit greek 100.
I have asked numerous times and continue to be told no, it is not in our warehouse.
All your competition has both products. I have not been shopping ($800) a month in groceries going to your competition.
My Jewel is the one on Maple in Mundelein, Illinois..
deceptive posting of sale prices/
I have been a lifelong customer of Jewel...that ended today. I have brought my receipt back to customer service so many times to get refunds... it is a typical practice for me. At the jewel on Deerfield Rd. in Highland Park, Il., they deliberately post sale prices in front of non sale items, to get us to pick up the full price item and counting on us not finding the mistake of our receipt. I guess you people would rather pull this [censor] on us and risk losing our business using these deceptive marketing ploys. NEVER AGAIN... Margianos down the street just got my business. You've pulled this [censor] on me in the liquor dept., in produce, dairy., ice cream, everywhere. It's clear these are not mistakes. And then you people keep rearranging the product aisles so that we get more and more confused. Inform your marketing team that this didnt work, we have left for your competitor.
salad bar and bad customer service
I'm very unsatisfied with the service received today. I tried getting antipasto from the salad bar however I asked an employee (I didn't get her name) however she stated that she'll call somebody the salad bar to put some more of it in stock. I've waited about 10 minutes mind you the person who's in charge with salad bar she had everything stocked at one spot and no where to be found to do her job. So I didn't had enough time to wait so I grab something else the cashier who rang the items was very rude. Your store is full of unprofessional and lazy people.
pharmacy rudeness
I've been shopping at the Palatine Dundee Road Jewel/Osco for over 20 years. I went in today around noon to check about switching my prescription over to Jewel from Walgreens. There was nobody near the Pharmacy so I felt comfortable asking the question of how much Jewel/Osco would charge me for my prescrition over Walgreens. The first person i encountered went through 5 minutes of trying to convince me they couldn't help me because of various insurance reasons even after I kept telling her I DON"T HAVE PRECRIPTION INSURANCE. Finally I convinced her all I'm looking for is the difference in pricing, if any, for my prescription and I would be paying cash.
Clearly she didn't have time for me so she passed me off to the only other employee that was there and asked him to help me. He went to the computer punched in my prescription name and said "That would be 1 3 2 4 3 8. Just like that not $1, 324.38. 1 3 2 4 3 8. Just the numbers. It was, to say the least confusing. Was he saing $13.24 and I'm not hearing him correctly? Finally I said HOW MUCH? He finally responded with the normal $1, 324.38. I said WOW Walgreens only charges me $143.00. He said, and I'm not kidding, that's because your insurance pays the rest. Now he had been standing there when I went through this with the other pharmacy person. I said I DON"T HAVE PRESCRIPTION INSURANCE, I pay cash. He said "yeah I heard you the first 4 times you said that but they are using "something" to defer the rest of the cost. I said like GoodRX. He said "don't know" I said "You don't have something like that?" He said yes but it would take 10 minutes and I'm not doing it. I said well I wouldn't want to bother you Goodbye.
On the bright side I've been looking for an excuse to do all my shopping at Marianos but felt some loyalty to Jewel as I'd been shopping there for so long. Apparently the feeling isn't mutual. So THANKS and sorry for all the bother.
jewel osco,1500 s lee st, des plaines, il,60018
I had very bad experiences from the cashier named "Diane G" on Wednesday September 6, 2017.She even acknowledges me if I exist there. As a customer service she has to acknowledge every person. It is one of the basic skills needed for a cashier. She has to learn to say how to say thank you for every customer. She even left my receipt at the belt!.I never had an argument with her or disagreement with her.I do not know why she is treating people like that.
minooka, il jewel osco
I live right in town of small Minooka, IL, I went up to the deli and there's a girl named by Raven Pointer that works there she refused to help me. Gave me dirty looks, and call me some really inappropriate names. Later, I find out when I was walking out of the store she was smoking marijuana outside of the store. I'm really ashamed jewel would hire someone that would do this type of stuff to customers.
employee
I was at Jewel in Darien on Cass and overheard someone at the customer desk talking about a male employees private business. Don't know the males name but was saying he hadn't been paid in two weeks and they he'll still have to wait yet another week to get paid. If I ran a business this way it would get shut down with people walking off he job. That poor young man has worked for weeks and not gotten paid. Unexceptable. It makes me angry and I don't even know him. I'm sure he works for a reason. tO PAY HIS BILLS. Get it together Jewel.
the warm temperature in the munster store. a compliment to munster store employee mary.
8/3017. Jewel Munster, Indiana store. The temperature in the store has been very uncomfortable. One has to stick their head in the frozen food compartments to cool off. The employees also contend that it is TOO HOT! This includes the OSCO employees also...
Once AGAIN the employee interaction with customer is gone, The friendly hello and smile is gone... Even the store manager seems to always have a frown.
You have MANY GOOD employees that seem to have lost their friendliness .
One employee that remains very friendly and helpful is Mary who does the bagging and helps customers with bags.
Please PUT this Munster Jewel store BACK on TRACK! There is a Strack and Van Til store right down the street!

I have been a long-time customer of yours for 35 to 40 years. And have been in the grocery business most of my life and have own stores as big as yours. But for the life of me I cannot understand why you waste your money on Advertising items in the paper but when you get to the store you never have them. I don't understand why you cannot order enough it's not as though you won't sell the extra later that you ordered. Remember I been in the grocery business so I know exactly how it works. Do you realize how many customers you lose by not having the items that you advertised. When they read your ad the next time they say why bother you wouldn't have it any how. You end up losing more customers by running your business like this. Then if you would just advertised things that you are definitely going to have. I do really like shopping at your stores and always have. But someone needs to take care of this problem.
