I am writing finally to complain about the Ipswich Shaws. Every time I go in to that store I end up leaving frustrated. Here are some of the reasons:
The vegetables and fruit are always rotten. This I find is only in the Ipswich store, I often go in the Beverly store and they always have great produce.
The staff is rude. On a recent visit, I entered the store first thing in the morning. As the door was open I did not realize it was 5 to 7. I started to get in line and was accosted by a worker, "you should not be in here!" I explained that the door was open to which she explained, "I know who did that!" As a weekly Market basket shopper, this Ipswich Shaw's employees should be sent there to learn customer service!
I could go on as to the lack of products and more examples of rude staff but for now I will not be going in that store again. I have realized after my last experience, it is worth the time spent to go to Market Basket (a little further away) or even to Crosbie's, where I will spend more!
rotisserie chicken.
On Wednesday, August 28 at 6:55 I purchased the deli chicken from Shaws on Congress Street in Portland. The signature café whole roasted chicken which I purchased two were hot out of the oven at 2:45 I got the two dollar savings from the regular purchase price of 1398 and proceeded to go home to eat. I became violently L4 hours later and spent the next...

Store location : Store # 495, 180 A Cambridge Street, Burlington MA
Date of purchase : 8/16/2019 at 13:49 (1:49 PM).
Purchased Red Bliss Potato Salad because I was in a hurry. Paid $5.22 for a small container.
What I got: Chopped boiled potatoes in a watery mayo. No taste, no spices, nothing to please the taste buds.
I was ripped off ! It was tasteless and I question whether they were indeed red bliss potatoes.
Suggestion: Consult Fanny Farmer for the minimal version of an American Red Bliss Potato Salad. Do not con us, the consumer into buying your potato and mayo concoctions and charging us an arm and a leg.
Give me my money back $5.22
customer service / pricing
We have recently shopping at Shaws in Hudson, MA because it is convenient, rather than at also nearby Stop and Shop. Today, we bought three Thomas English Muffins, which we thought were buy one, get two free. When we checked the bill, were were charged full price for all three. I went back to the store, and it was pointed out to the that it was only for the original (in the flyer). However, the one sign near the product said mix and match - pricing for all the varieties was the same. I was curtly told by the customer service rep. that they were not bound by the signage, which I believe is illegal. Stop and Shop sale items of a product usually apply to those with the same regular pricing. 8-10-2019
deli
To whom it may concern,
I have been a Shaw's customer for over 20 years and it's the 1st time that I write a complaint.
Today Sunday July 28th at around 6:30 pm I went shopping and the young man at deli counter was just not communicative at all, no hello no response not even a than you! Very stoic.
The cashier also wasn't happy to do her job!
I just have to saw that the bagger was the nicest person.
This is I acceptable.
I hope to see a work force that actually respect their customers, we are their paychecks.
Sincerely,
Gilles Motte

management
A couple weeks ago I was at Shaw's standing in the very long line that went out into the isles with only one register open. The cashier asked who I believe is the manager (George?)if he could open up, as he was standing nearby watching her with a very long line of customers (who were starting to get frustrated) and he said he didn't know how to run the register, and then turned away to get back to whatever it was he was doing. What kind of manager doesn't know how to do the job he is supposed to be supervising? I have been shopping here for years and have seen this store go through a few managers, all of who were willing and ABLE to help out their employees when necessary. To be clear, my complaint isn't about the store being understaffed, it is specifically about the managers incompetence and the unprofessional attitude that he is somehow too good to do the job that he is supposed to be supervising.
Dear Mr. Biggus Dickus,
I appreciate your opinion. For starters, how do you expect a good manager to manage their employees and make sure they are doing their job correctly when they do not know how to do the job themselves? This is a small store. There have been previous managers who were capable of jumping on register when necessary, while still being able to attend to their managerial duties. Why should this manager be an exception? Secondly, you stated ever so dramatically, “So rather than pontificate on why you had to *gasp* wait in line for a few minutes, why not take some time to understand how a business typically runs” (Dickus, lines 5-7). Once again I would like to reiterate that my problem with the store was not the fact that it was understaffed and I had to wait in line, it was the managers lack of ability to step in when needed. Being a cashier got me through college and I have been in similar situations before. Thirdly, in the rare event that something “catastrophic” were to occur, I’m sure he would be able to leave the register just as easily as he got on. Finally (I probably should have mentioned this earlier), when it was my turn in line I asked the cashier if he really didn’t know how to run register (as in my personal opinion I do believe a manager should know how to at the very least help his employees, which this one did no such thing, he just watched her) and she told me that he refuses to learn. This is where I drew my assumption that he felt it was too low of a job for him.
Hope this helps!
Your friend,
Matthew Avery
customer service
First of all, not too many grocery stores open their service desk at 9am. Pretty late if u ask me. 90 percent stores are 7 am to 8 am.
Second of all I went into Shaws Franklin Mass this morning for refund of an overcharge item. I normally let it slide, but it was 2.50 and I thought it was worth going back for that. I waited ten minutes for service desk to open at 9am. I was waited on by the a most rude young man. It was horrible. I showed him my receipt and I got a sorry it rang up correctly, then walking away and ignoring me. I said excuse me could you look at receipt again, I got a you are not owed refund. I then said could I speak with manager, he called someone out from back office. I explained my situation to her, she reviewed receipt and told young man I was owed 2.50. He was not happy and said she is not owed it, she said yes she is. He proceeded to get the 2.50 from register slammed it on the counter and walked away. No thank you, no sorry, no communication what so ever. I raised my voice a bit and said thank you to you also. He is young and learning but with an attitude like that he should not be on customer service

deli, overall store
Every single week the sale prices at the deli are wrong and I have to drag a flier back to literally show them that the item is on sale. Either the item is not marked on sale or It doesn't calculate the price right. I spend a lot of money in this store and every time I'm in there there are things I have to address because the price is wrong or the cashier...

I recently shopped at Star Market in Norwood out of convenience while my kids were at Launch trampoline park nearby.
Biggest Mistake Ever!
More than half of my weekly grocery bill consists of fresh produce.
To say that it was slim pickings at your establishment would be an understatement!
Due to time restraints, I did my best..
After wasting most of my time digging through the very poor selection of fruits and vegetables I finished my shopping and proceeded to check out.
This is where I encountered one teenager on the register complaining to her teenage friend bagging groceries that she still hasn't gone on break. As the friend bagging groceries chimed in with her own complaints, she just threw all the food I painstakingly selected randomly into bags.
$195 later...
I get home & unpack grocery bags with squash on top of tomatoes..
Watermelon on top of avocados..
Etc..
I considered sending an email immediately, but restrained because I didn't want to complain.. I too work in the food industry & understand how difficult it can be!
Although.. after having to throw out "fresh" produce less than 48 hours after purchasing it, I feel obligated to share my experience with you.
As a single mother of two hungry, growing boys I thought you should truly understand that it's actually a sacrifice to spend nearly $200 a week to feed them & myself, a healthy diet.
You should be made aware of how poorly
Star Market in Norwood is operating..
Best of luck
Sincerely,
April Papadakis

unethical behaviour
I went to your store (Deli/Meat department) around 9.10 am on 7/17/19. The employee had his headphone so he couldn't hear me. I had to raise my voice, not really louder, saying "Hello" a few times and he finally heard me but seemed to be mad. First, he stated his station wasn't open yet then he asked what I needed? I said that I'd like to purchase 2 pcs of...

The packet never opened after I ran it 5 times on the hottest setting, all it did was melt the coating on it so I bought a different brand to use but first I had to scrap out the melted outer packaging of your brand before I could have my dishes cleaned. This is really upsetting I'm a single mother of 2 and I take care of my 93 year old so I cant waist money but in this case I did.

meat, produce
I have been a loyal Shaws/Star Market customer for over 30 years as was my mother before me. Even when Big Y opened almost directly across the street in Franklin, MA I chose to stay with Shaws. I understand this particular store is undergoing renovations at this time but I don't understand why the meats and produce have declined during this changeover. I needed Hamburg and lettuce for a gathering on Friday so I went to Shaws on Thursday early afternoon. The 4 packages of Hamburg on the counter that were 80% lean had meat that was actually gray in color, yet the sell by date was the next day. Since I would not buy it I went to get a package of Romaine lettuce for salad. There were 3 packages on the counter and all had wilted, brown lettuce. I even asked the young produce clerk if he had anymore as this was disgusting and he said no, but he did apologize and take all 3 off the counter. I won't pay $6.99 a pound for Hamburg and I don't want to pay double for "organic" lettuce so I left with nothing and was totally turned off. I will not go back for a long time as I have many other options in my local area...including Market Basket. You have consistently pulled favorite brands off your shelves and your quality has declined..not just since the renovations began either...long before. Maybe since you became an Albertson's store..not sure and don't really care. Very disappointed. I have been through cutting coupons out of flyers, to a Shaws card on my keychain, and now to the app on my phonetic get foolish sale prices that everyone should get. Whatever...see ya later Shaws☹️☹️
smoke in kitchen area
As a East Boston resident, I am very happy using Shaw's super market, also with the last improvement the market received. However in the area of Pizza and Grill chicken in several hours of the service the smell of burnt oil is absolutely repulsive, very bad, . I continue shopping at the market, just because is a convenient location but just being there when...

Seriously I cannot explain how filthy this entire store is from the moment you walk in. Can no manager smell? Seriously the lobby area stinks! Does anyone supervise store managers? The staff is miserable and completely inconsiderate of people's time. Tonight it took me over 30 minutes to get a pound of meat and a pound of cheese from the deli. One clerk no stock had to wait to open both then go to pay 1 register open 4 people watching. Person in front of me couldn't pay by check wait wait wait did anyone apologize? Did anyone want to open another register? Nope NOT until I asked a supervisor seriously you can't take us on another register? She reluctantly opened one but not to take the customers waiting but new ones who walked up. Then while waiting mind you 10 Register line one open a staff person literally shoved her way in the aisle that's full of people to restock candy. Again I say to her are the other 9 aisles of candy already stocked? She had zero clue. This store is always out of product rude attitude and dirty. Please go look at the store or I would be happy to send you pictures of the filth
I didn't realize I could attach pictures or I would have taken them today. [protected]@gmail.com
parking area
To whom it may concern,
on a recent trip (6/ 17/ 2019 ) to the Worcester Ma., Stafford st location at Webster Sq Plaza, I was approached by two individuals pan handling for money in the parking lot and actually ran into another sitting against a post near the exit, with his dog and a sign asking for help. Now, I am not against helping those in true need, ( I actually may have given the man with the dog something if I had cash on me ) but, a lot of these people have no true need, they seem to congregate on the market side of the parking lot, and it concerns me that older people may be intimidated by these folks and give them money to feel safe, money they need for themselves for food and medicine and money Shaws should be making. Can't Shaws and the other stores in the Plaza get the owners to get some security to keep these people from accosting customers ? Thanks, John Almeida
rotisserie chicken
When I was shopping at the sale for rotisserie chicken I noticed the had piled them two high under the heater. This makes the top handle quite high. The unit the chicken is kept warm in on this store has a top heater unit that is not very tall from tray chicken are put on. Therefore by stacking them two high it make it almost impossible to reach in and grab...

I used self check out and the machine wouldn't recognize my reusable bag. I tapped using my own bag and it still would not go through and the screen said "wait for sales associate assistance" No one was at the kiosk for the self check out helping people so I asked someone working another register if he could have someone come help me. 10 minutes later a girl walks over who had been walking around the check out area. Someone should be at the self check out as a rule but there's never anyone there and I have to hunt them down. It's not good business and takes out the convince of self check out. Don't have it if you aren't gonna have someone monitoring it.
