I went to the Plato's Closet in Jacksonville with a garbage bag full of clothes and purses. They told me it was going to be 30 minutes and I could not leave the store. The 30 minutes turned into an hour and a hlaf...not fun when you have a toddler with you. When I was finally able to collect the money, the cahsier showed me what she was able to take (4...

Plato's Closet never sell your clothes to them!

I went into the store to sell my brand name clothes, But before i washed the clothes and looked to make sure that they didn't have any holes and anything wrong with them. When i came to the counter they told me a 15 minute wait. So no problem, i thought i just look around at the clothes they had. I looked over at the counter a couple times and they never looked at my clothes. after about an hour i asked them if they looked at my clothes yet, and they said they did (when obviously they didn't because they boxes of my clothes were in the same position as when they were set down by the lady who took them) They said they couldn't take any of my clothes because they weren't in style and other rude comments? I was very offended, and that upset me that they would make me wait that long for them to tell me that they couldn't take any of my clothes that were in very good condition.

Plato's Closet ridiculous demands!

I will never ever go here again. I warn you all not to as well. A few years ago they only offered me three dollars, yes I know it's hard to believe but three dollars for a bunch of quality clothing. I told them i'd rather just donate it and took it back. Today I went there as I am desperate for some cash. I had a bunch of jeans folded in a paper grocery bag. The girl told me she would "love to look over" my items but "they need to be in a laundry basket or box." are you serious? I live on the other side of town, no way in hell I was going to drive back home and bring my own laundry basket to this filth of a store. I can't believe they can't look over clothes because they're in a bag. There is nothing on the website stating this rule. What's the big deal? I know for a fact a couple of years ago I brought my clothes in a paper bag. Don't waste your time folks. Rude people, bad deals. Two dollars for a really nice pair of jeans my #. Stay away. I hope they go out of business.

I have sold clothes multiple times here. Every time I've had a great experience! They ask that items come in laundry baskets or containers because bags rip and can easily spill. I've been there on a Saturday when there's tons of people selling. I understand how if a bag (s) ripped, items could easily be misplaced. Also, one of the girls explained to me how they determine if they are giving away cash or store credit. Each day they start off with a certain amount of cash. If they get a lot of people selling clothes, they run out of money and have to offer store credit. Which only makes sense. If there are no customers putting money into their cash registers...how can they continue to give it out?! The girls that work there are younger, but they are very friendly! I work at an office, so sometimes when I sell clothes they tell me they are too dressy. In which case, I just take my clothes over to clothes mentor. Clothes mentor takes in dressier clothes. I really love Plato's closet and clothes mentor. I think they get a lot of grief but are good at what they do!

OMG, NEVER AGAIN.I CALLED THEM TO SEE IF THE WERE STILL EXCEPTING CLOTHING STILL, AND SHE SAID YES THEY WERE.SO I MADE SURE THAT THEY WERE ALL WASHED AND PUT IN BOXES.I HAD 100 ACTICLES OF CLOTHES WITH THE BRANDS THEY HAVE ON THEIR WEB SITE, WHICH INCLUDED PANTS, DRESS AND JEANS, T-SHIRTS, LONG SLEEVE DRESS SHIRTS, HOODIES AND JACKETS ALSO VICTORIA SECRET.I PUT $30 IN FOR GAS AND DROVE 40 MILES ONE WAY.IT WAS 4 DAYS BEFORE CHRISTMAS, NEEDED MONEY FOR THE HOLIDAYS, I THOUGHT EVEN IF THEY GAVE ME A $1.00 FOR EACH I WOULD BE HAPPY.I BROUGHT THE 4 BOXES IN AND SIGNED THIER PAPERWORK AND SAID IT WOULD BE HALF AND HOUR AND THEN GIVE ME MY CASH.WHEN I RETURNED SHE GRABBED HER BASKET AND ALL THAT WAS IN THAT WAS 5 CLOTHES AND OFFERED ME $8.00.I WAS IN HORRIED SHOCK, I SAID WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE OTHER 95 PIECES OF CLOTHES, HER RESPONSE WAS NOTHING I HAD ALL THE BRANDS THEY WERE LOOKING FOR BUT THAT THEY WERE OUT DATED.COULD NOT BELIEVE THAT.SHE SAID I COULD DONATE THE REST, WHAT SO THEY COULD PUT THEM FOR SALE ONCE I LEAVE.I TOOK THE BOXES HOME AND TOOK THE $8.00 DOLLARS TOO.THEY WERE YOUNG GIRLS APPERANTLY WITH NO SENSE OF STYLE.I WILL PASS THE WORD ON TO EVERYONE I KNOW AND THEN SOME.NEVER EVER AGAIN.WHAT HAPPENED TO CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT.I EVEN CRIED ALITTLE ON MY 40 MILES BACK HOME.THANKS FOR MAKING MY HOLDAY SUCK MORE THEN IT ALREADY DOES.

OMG! I use to work for one and never once was I told that clothes had to be in a basket or box. we got clothes in bags, even trash bags, WTF? maybe the girl was new or stupid. Yeah it sucked telling people that let say...they bring in a dior purse we can only offer $10 for it, when most people paid $100 or more for it . The only reason I can think of is why they offer low money for things is that they have so much of that stuff and they don't have room, I was told once that we had too many tank tops, don't take anymore. So I'm sorry that they offer such crappy money for things. Glad I don't work there anymore the people I worked with were snobby as hell.

Plato's Closet horrible service

I went in early in the day to sell back a single bag of purses, was told they were backed up and also if I had high end purses (Like louis vuitton - which I did) they would not purchase those unless I had proof I bought it. Whatever... I took it out. So at 3:30 in the afternoon was told to come back at 7:30 that night. I showed up at 8! Still had not looked at my stuff, then gave me all my bags but 2 (1 was a prada - hello high end) and then offered me 9.00 how ridiculous! Also I have no clue if the manager didn't like asians, but he just always found an excuse to ignore me! He and his staff continously took other people ahead of me.

I will never shop in that store, and I plan on telling everyone I know to avoid that crappy store!

You honestly get way more for your money shopping at a rugged warehouse, marshalls, tj maxx, even kohls or macys on their sale days! And at least that stuff is new not someone used old crap!

Do yourself a favor, buy new! Or if your gonna buy used, go to a nice consignment shop or support the ones that are a good cause. Like va - goodwill stores!

If you live in the Cleveland, Ohio area...try Mentor Clothes. They have high end items and great purses and are very nice! They are right around the corner from Plato's Closet, which is cramped and loaded down with slutty clothes.

I went in TWICE to sell. The 1st girl flat out refuse to even look at what I had, answered the telephone a& held a conversation w/ a co-worker. The 2nd trip consisted of taking in 21 pcs that were glanced thru in less than 10mins. The best I can figure is since I'm over the age of 29 these lil teenagers thought all I would have would be old fuddy duddy stuff not worthy of their "trendy" store or worth their all important time. Sorry, my 16yr old & 20yr's closets don't consist of the cheap crap they sell @ Walmart, Target & Kmart like CH's Plato's Closet is loaded down w/. If they can't afford to buy our Macy's, Dillard's, etc clothing they need to let people know that so they don't waste their time on that cheap ### place.
Another thing, if you have some meat on your bones don't bother trying to buy anything there. They don't sell anything over a 1 XL.
So, to sum it up:
Colonial Heights Plato's Closet age discriminates (who the Hell do they think buys our kids clothes to start w/)
They size discriminate (no chubbies allowed)
And are very rude to their customers
I'll never step foot in that dump again & make damned sure none of my children, their friends, my friends & their children do either.

Plato's Closet plato's closet - customer service

Wow..that is really sad. I myself have had some interesting experiences with Plato's Closet. Because of those experiences I won't ever shop there. As a matter of fact, I have never wanted to shop there..They sell used clothes for the same price that something brand new at the mall would cost. Along with that, I also take very good care of my clothes but being that I'm a young black woman the girls that work in the store aren't so kind to me. I used to wear a size 13 in jeans but after losing a lot of weight I now wear a 5 or a 7 so I basically have all of these clothes that are way too big for me. When I first heard of Plato's Closet, I thought I should go there and try to sell the clothes that I can no longer fit. One thing people know well about me is that no matter what size I am, I love clothes, I love to shop. I also love a variety of different name brands. So Yes, I felt some kind of way when I took some of my Baby Phat and Apple Bottom jean and capri pants to this store, and it's like Plato's Closet was not interested in them. I know girls that would kill to have a piece from my wardrobe but I have done my share as far as charity goes and after paying a pretty penny for a lot of my clothes I feel like I should get a little change back after selling..Today I went there with a bag full of the kind of clothes I just mentioned, and she tells me that they wanted 3 items for $10.50. I thought she was joking..She wanted to buy 3 apple bottom capri pants from me for $10.50. I politely told her I wasn't interested and that I would be taken those clothes back. That was just ridiculous to me. I have reason to believe that it had something to do with the color of my skin and the sizes on the clothing. Especially since I seen other girls who were white who were there to sell older styles of clothing with stains and yet they still received somewhere between $70-$100. Sounds suspect to me. Even if that is how business is done it still doesn't change how the staff treats customers. The staff is very rude and they treat you like dirt. One staff member even had an attitude with me when I said I was taking clothes back. If she wasn't trying to rip me off I could've settled for the deal. It's like how snobby can you be working at a used clothing store?

Today, I actually had a horrible experience at Plato's Closet. I am not sure if would be completely accurate to claim that the employees are racist, but they do have the worst attitudes that I have seen. The employees do appear to have a better attitude towards their white customers. They are not polite at all. The girls who work there are probably within high school to college age, and it shows. They are very rude. I dropped off two medium sized bags of clothes early in the day around 2pm, and they told me my pickup or sell would be ready by 7:30pm which was fine. I understand that a lot of people have brought in clothes for the employees to search through and select items that they want to buy. When I returned at that time, I could tell that they were whispering and laughing about me as I got out of my car. Once again, they are very rude. I have no idea what the whispering and laughing could be about. I drive a decent car, and I'm always dressed well. But without getting beside the point, the girls that work there are very rude and immature. I will not sell to them again. It's pretty much a rip off. They've only given me around $2-3 for brand new items purchased within the year. My advice to anyone with clothes that they do not want is to donate them to their local church or Good Will. You will not receive a lousy $11.80 as I did but the reward will be much greater than putting up with such petty and rude attitudes from some bored high school chicks.

"Stop being another one of those damn blacks who anytime something doesn't go the way you want it has to be because you are black. Pathetic." Stealth Pilot, that definitely qualifies you as one of Plato's Closet's own! Go fill out an application cause with that attitude, you're getting the job!

See guys, you don't even have to be black to be discriminated against. Speaking Italian also bothers these ditzy tanned blonde girls in there. Not looking like them gives them the right to point fingers and mock. Taking Coach purses to sell is also wrong. An Italian who wears Abercrombie? nope. Buying a lot of clothes is wrong too, apparently.

I'm not black but white. Fully European to be more specific; not even born here. I work just as hard as everyone else, I get paid with the same dollar bills as everyone else, but me having a phone conversation in Italian was a problem. When I wanted to check out, I was greeted with an "ugh". Then when I was waiting for her to tell me the total, which was over $200, she told me mockingly, like I didn't have the money. I actually had well over $600 in my purse, which costed more than what I was supposed to pay there that day.

They hire girls who are what, 16? They have terrible attitudes, no experience, no social skills... They are those annoying girls you see in groups at the mall shopping with their daddy's credit card. Those are the types of people who they hire. Don't expect good customer service; you won't get it until the owners of these places start hiring girls with brains and at least some type of social skill.

And OP, I'm so sorry that happened to you. There should be a list of things you must be before going there to sell. They tried to give me 3 dollars for a pair of brand new Abercrombie jeans. They weren't outdated, they weren't too big... they were size 0, just like they like them and they still offered me 3 dollars. I took my stuff back and sold it on ebay, for $23.

WOW! My hubby and I went there, to plato's closet, a few days ago to sell clothes. We had really nice roca ware and other nice name brands that belong to our 15 year old daughter. They would not except any of them and they really didn't have a good reason why. They never even looked up at us as they spoke to us. It's sad to say that I think it had everything to do with the color of my skin. I decided to leave it in the hands of the lord and if this store is really conducting business like this they will not prosper. In Jesus name! Amen.

Nah, sorry, I believe the first lady. I've been twice, certainly not to buy anything; you can get scabies, etc. from used clothes. I do agree regarding the rudeness of employees. They wouldn't give me a quote on multiple BCBG, Bebe and Lucky items without a long form and driver's license. When I wouldn't fil out the form, the young woman at the Boynton Beach location (who clearly doesn't bathe regularly), picked up the items and said they weren't long enough to fit this year's style. What a joke as she was wearing a cheap knock off tube top.

Forget, it, back to Ebay for me... at least I get $10 minimum for my nice threads there. Clearly the last post was from an employee. Oh, and high end, THAT IS THE REAL JOKE. MOST OF THE STUFF IN THERE IS IN NO WAY WHAT I WOULD CALL NAME BRAND!

My daughter shops at this store and totally loves it. She takes a bunch of her friends and they have never had problems like the story you tell. They shop there often. It sounds like you've been there once, so I don't think you know much about this store. They sell there too. Lots of their stuff doesn't get bought, but it has nothing to do with 'color'. Shame on you. They accept that everything they own isn't going to be fawned over.

"They sell used clothes for the same price that something brand new at the mall would cost." That's generally quite false. Oh, now and again, one piece out of thousands might be priced like a mall store end of season final clearance, but one simply cannot buy the exact same item in the mall for the same price day in day out. Why make this up to support your story?

"I have reason to believe that it had something to do with the color of my skin and the sizes on the clothing. Especially since I seen other girls who were white who were there to sell older styles of clothing with stains and yet they still received somewhere between $70-$100. Sounds suspect to me." Another total fabrication. You clearly do not know of what you speak. The only thing that sounds 'suspect' is this story. Maybe it took a while to lose the weight (which you are to be congratulated on!) and the clothes you used to wear just got outdated?

If you weren't happy with their pricing for your things, just say so. You don't need to create a fictional novel just because what a business values your used (and obviously unwanted) stuff for and what you think it is worth differs. You've been there once, and you think all the staff is bad? Maybe you were just disappointed and therefore you viewed everything negative?

I'm sorry, but with so much fluff and fiction, your story just loses credibility as a legitimate complaint. I hope people who read your story will find out for themselves and form their own opinion.

Plato's Closet waste of time and gas money

This is what it comes down to:

A) there are more unhappy customers than happy customers who have been to plato's closet

B) buying - it's a decent place to get some good deals, but you can find better deals on the clearance racks of department stores such as macy's, jcpenney... If you are going to spend $15 on a pair of old, used jeans, wouldn't you rather spend it on a pair of new jeans from the clearance rack?

C) selling - it seriously is a waste of time to even "give it a shot". You go in with items that are only 5 months old, and get nothing for it.

D) in the end you are not gaining anything from going to plato's closet. You are wasting time and gas money.

1. Really? You did a legitimate study?

2. $15 for some used $80 jeans is a great deal and you will not get that on any clearance rack.

3. You really think they should give you retail for 5 month old clothes? That season is over! Would YOU pay that much for 5 month old clothes? NO.

4. No. I have found some great bargains at Plato's. I just do not go in thinking I can get designer clothes for dollar store prices.

I went to Plato's closet yesterday in Oklahoma City to look around. I found a pair of BKE jeans just like a pair that I already have that I love. When I got home I noticed that they were straight legged instead of flare. The next morning I was going to take them back and decided to go through my closet and see what I could get for the things that I don't wear. I took the items in and placed them on the counter. The jeans that I bought the day before still had the tags on them and the girl said that was fine and they would take them back. When they called my name it was a different girl than the one I dealt with in first place. She said that she couldn't take any of my items with little explanation. I had two pair of Diva Old Navy jeans that had a white crease line in them from the knee down. I bought them that way and she said they couldn't take them. I walked over a pulled a pair off the rack just like them and she just looked at me! I had a pair of almost new black leather Guess heals with silver studs on the side and she said they were too suffisticated. Right in front of me on a shelf was a pair of brown leather knee high boots that were a no name brand. I had a pair just like them but were Tommy Hillfiger that she wouldn't take. She said that she could give me $14.00 for the BKE jeans that I had brought in from yesterday that I paid $30.00 for. She said that the tags were gone so she couldn't refund me or let me make an exchange. I told her the other girl had seen the tags an that they were on them. She rolled her eyes and I told her to go get the girl that checke me in. The girl came over and said that the tags were on them but because they weren't there now she could only give me $14.00 for them. I uses I overeacted at that point because I told them I would just keep the jeans and they could throw all my stuff in the trash and I walked out. I was so embarrassed already and I didn't want to lugg two pair of boots, a pair of heals and arms full of clothes out the door. Needless to say I will never go back and I know that all of my stuff will be on the shelves tomorrow. I have never had such rude costumer service in my life.

Plato's Closet they give you nothing for your clothes

ok I called before going in to make sure i had what they would accept. Upon arriving I brought in several bags when I was told I would get $2.50 for Brand name designer jeans that were in like new condition, on top of that she was very PICKY over the top. I decided I would be better off to give and or sale my own stuff as opposed to take a 99% loss on them and make her a money. When I looked at the things she was selling that were comparable she was selling the same stuff sow 15 times the amount of what she was willing to pay. Thats quite the profit margine if you ask me. Highly not recomended!

Plato's Closet bad customer service

I recently decided to go through my closet and sell back a few items to Platos Closet. My clothes were gently worn and name-brand. Included in the items I took were a few pairs of awesome heels (all name brand), which had only been worn twice because of the size being too small. Estimated wait time was well over an hour, but since I had some time to kill I figured I'd just browse through some of the items. Nearly two hours later my items were ready and here comes the shocker! They had the nerve to tell me my clothes were out of date and the shoes were too worn. OK really..the clothes they had in the store were old, out of date and non-named brand. The shoes had the heel taps gone, toes worn out and totally out of date. I work in a shoes store so I'm fully aware of the current styles. What really gets me..who decided to purchase the crap they have in the store? That person clearly didnt understand the meaning of "gently worn". I will NEVER SELL OR SHOP at that place again! I'd rather set up my own yard sell get a few $ for my clothes/shoes. I just dont understand how the make an money with their current buying policy?

Plato's employees have very bad customer service. This was my first time going to Plato's Closet-Grove City, OH, and I dropped off one basket full of cloths. I knew of every piece of clothing that I put in my basket beforehand. When I came to pick it up, they passed on what was supposedly ALL my items. However, a few hours later I discovered that two of my pieces of clothing were missing. I immediately contacted the store to report this matter, but my complaint was quickly dismissed. The employees were very rude and unprofessional, keeping on hold for 15 minutes at a time; trying to make me feel as if I did not know what I was talking about. This is definitely not about the money; it's the principality that somebody (an employee) would have the audacity to steel my cloths. It was not handled in a professional matter by management. I will definitely never come back as a customer again!

Plato's Closet horrible service and pricing

As all of you have said, i believe plato's closet is a scam. A few weeks ago, my mom and I went to one in Maumee before a graduation party. I had a box full of "gently used" clothes that we took there in exchange for money. When we first arrived, the store looked very nice on the inside, neat and clean. The service people, however, had annoyed looks and tones of voice, which was a big turn off. She told me though that she should be done in about 15 minutes. Meanwhile, my mom, my aunt, and I walked throughtout the store, looking at everything. I have been at plato's closet to shop, but never donated. The last store I went to was in Toledo, and I bought a nice winter coat there for around $15 with nothing wrong with it. At this store, a lot of the clothing had snags and rips and looked faded and outdated (especially the shoes !) They had some nice things, but a lot of it should have been taken of the racks. When my mom told me that everything had been checked through, the whole box was practically full ! The ONLY things they took were two pairs of jeans from Wetseal that had the price tags still attached. I had a lot of items in there that were only worn once or twice, and were "in-season".( I also think the whole "in-season" line is ###.) Better yet, the cashier only gave me $8 and some change ! For NEW JEANS ! I was not too happy when I walked out of there. I do not plan "selling" o(r whatever they want to call it.) my clothes there again. More than likely I won't shop there either.

Plato's Closet selling clothes back

I went into Plato's Closet to sell back a bunch of clothes, they told me it'd be a half hour wait and i told them to take their time that I had errands to run. I returned 5 hours later, to be told that nothing could be taken back becuase of 'stains, old labels, and the clothing being too worn.' Once i got home I went through eerything to find that barely anything had been looked over. It seems as though they just went through the first couple things on the top of the bags, because everything on the bottom was exactly folded and put the way i had it.

Hardly any of it was worn, and nothing was very old. This place is a waste of time, and a load of crap.

I really don't understand the point of these complaint letters about "Consignment shops and used clothing/items? Why are people getting pissed off because a Consignment shop won't take or won't give them the cash amount they think they clothes/items are worth? Just because you like it and think it was the most stylish thing ever, doesn't mean that everyone else will. Why be insulted ?

I do agree with this. They barely look, and when they do, they throw clothes all over the place and make it a huge mess.

Two words: overbearing and stalkers, oh my gosh you feel like you are being stalked the whole entire time. I have been there once with my husband, and he hated how they followed me around, knew my name, my husbands name, and what items I had in my hands. Second time, my friend and me felt the same way, third time, same, and the 4th time, trying to bring my...

Plato's Closet waste of time!! no style!!

This place is horrible! I had gone here 2 years ago to sell my designer jeans that I had purchased then lost weight and could not fit in. I sold them 10 pairs for a lousy $40. I needed the cash so I took it and left. I was just there again to try to sell a bunch of designer blouses, tanks, sweaters, handbags and jewelry. Most of my clothes were from Guess, Macy's, Marshall's and Nordstrom. All of my items are totally in style. I am selling because I had not worn these items much (some at all) and thought someone else could get more wear out of them. I went through all the crap the store currently has to see if my stuff would have a place there. I was laughing my butt off as I looked through the trash they had. I knew my stuff would shine and sell before any of that other crap. After waiting 45 minutes in an empty store, the rude manager says they do not want any of my stuff because it's not in style. WHAT?! I told her she clearly doesnt even know what is in style and needs to read a fashion magazine once in a while. I guess pajama tops with stains on them are in and shoes that smell and are worn out and warped are in. Also, dollar store looking handbags are in. I mean, the trash they have is a joke! Not to mention, the people that work there are completely rude and obnoxious. I would not recommend this place to anyone! If you want to save/make a buck, go to a vintage/consignment shop. I did! I got an incredible offer for all of my items. I was told my items are the kind that sell in no time. There is a high demand for clothes like mine. I just want to add that I am a fashion designer and I know what the current trends are. This store is full of out dated, frumpy dumpy, snot rags! If you need a rag to clean your car with, shop here! Buyer/Seller Beware!

Platos Closet in Kansas city, MO, Lees Summit, MO and Overland Park, KS. are all owned by the same older hateful blond woman. This woman has no Customer service skills at all. I went in one week and sold a lot of True Religion, Ed Hardy tops and jeans (new with tags). It was done by a couple of teens. I got $240. The next week I went in with some of the same stuff most of it New with tags, the hateful owner was there. She gave me $6. for an identical shirt I brought in the week before and got $12. for. I asked what the difference was, She yelled at me "You don't have to take it! Besides your stuff isn't selling!" (she knew who I was) How freaking rude, I just asked a question. I think she was pissed the teens gave me so much money. Well, I should have learned my lesson then. But, I went again, I watched as the girl going through my things pulled out a pile of stuff and put it on the counter to be figured up. A different 30 something woman with no make up, dull clothing, plain jane appearance going through my things on the counter and I watch her put about 15 things back into my bag. She offers me $7.00!? I ask why she put it all back in the bags "REspose: Older styles" ###! I belive My name is marked in the computer to never give me more than $10. I HATE PLATOS CLOSET!

I have to say I agree with you guys, but you also have to look where you are. It's essentially a consignment shop for 13 year olds. Sorry if any of you are 13 :) but mostly this is kids wanting to buy things that they THINK are designer. As far as actual designer clothes go, most people couldn't tell you the names of more than one or two designers. Yes, the place sucks, but there are much better places for adults to go buy/sell actual designer clothing. Check google for your local designer consignment. Some are still going to be pretty bad because of the customers they cater to (older or younger crowds) but you can usually find at least one good place. I just shop on gilt.com cause it's the best, by far. Still a bit pricey, but trustworthy and brand new items. You can't sell there, of course, but it's good for purchases! :)

I totally agree I went to two diffrent Platos in the atlanta area everything I took I know was trendy and of the latest fashion...this trempy ### girl with these horrific eyelashes told me my stuff was old. Plenty of these thing had tags on them. I looked through the crap that they was selling and everything was faded and disgusting the shoes looked like they were on there last leg and UGLY! I know for a fact that I don't buy no crap all of my clothes are designer and I paid full retail for them! The entire store smelled like a stank ### basement! I went to the consignment store across the street and was well compensated. That Platos closet is a scam.

i had the same expierence as you in the pembroke pines store in florida. they have a bunch of young kids that work in there and they dont know everything thats in fashion! the girl that was trying to pick out of all my DKNY, AMERICAN EAGLE, GUESS, ECT... said none of this was in style, mean while looked like a bag lady. there was a bunch of torn, out of date clothing in there, and they are supposedly trained to be purchasers, RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT! your better off getting a tax write off than to help fatten up someones pocket that hires rude, gossipy, no style employees

Remember that each store is individually owned and operated. The Springfield store is a problem. Each store is a reflection of its owner. I would advise to visit the Deptford Store as that is the first one in the area and the largest, and the owner and manager make sure customer service is their 1st priority. They will be honest about what they cannot buy and they will not have old stuff on display. Deptford is not as strict with regard to the label because almost everything sells in Deptford. Not every store has an issue. Springfield is struggling due to its size and location.

100% agree with this one! I had a similar experience just a few weeks ago. The manager there needs to be fired. She was very rude and unhelpful. I too noticed that all of the items they currently have to sell are not only out of style, but gross. Everything looks like it has been worn over 100 times. The handbags were a joke. Most of what they had were free gifts you get when you buy purfume. I couldn't believe my eyes in there! I found a pair of shoes that had dirty feet marks in them and looked like whoever owned them walked through dirty puddles everyday. It does not matter that the shoes were Steve Madden. If they look like that, they need to be thrown out. I tried to sell them a few pairs of Steve Madden shoes. Mine were never worn. I even still had the original price tags on them. I was able to sell the shoes on Ebay for much more than I would have received at this place. This place is a joke! Seriously, don't waste your time.

I was once an employee of Plato's Closet in Sandy Springs, GA. On July 31st I went into one of the Plato's Closet stores owned by my former employer to sell some clothing. Plato's Closet stolen goods and lies

I dropped off a bag full of clothes and shoes at plato's and they told me they would call me when they were ready to be picked up. I sent my husband to get them and they gave him a check for 3.50, I know there was over 300.0 worth of stuff in that bag. They told me that they donated my other items to charity cause it took me too long to come and get em, I mean is the charity place on standby cause my stuff was gone in a day. Liars and theives, that is what this place is. Give me a break plato robbers, you will never see another dime of my money or a stitch of my second hand items, cause I don't work well with liars and ribbers! Beware of platos closet and once upon a cild, they are all related.

When you drop off your clothes you sign a sheet that specifically states if you are not back the same day to pick up your items plato's has the right to donate them, and put a store credit slip in your name-if they were able to take anything.

I think it really depends on what Platos Closet you go to. Every one is operated differently and owned by different people. You also have to take into consideration that not EVERY area has the same demographic. You could have a Platos Closet in a certain area where RocaWear doesn't sell as well as say Charlotte Russe or Hollister items, if they're not going to make a profit off of it there is no point for them to buy it. I get and understand why some people get upset over it but you have to understand they are a business and need to do what's best for the business as well. As for the donating the clothing, Platos Closet has limited space, and because of the fact that they have so much inventory coming in all day everyday and limited space for backstock they really don't have the space to keep a large quantity of items behind their cash wrap all day. They should tell you that if you're not back in a certain time they get rid of your clothes. As for pricing they tell you in the beginning, that you're not going to get back what you paid for. The business wouldn't survive if you paid that much cash back for that many items. They're only given so much money in their cash drawers a day so take that into consideration when you sell, don't sell items of personal value. I've never had a bad experience but I always sell to the same Platos Closet. It's a shame you had a bad experience at one Platos Closet, but like I said they're all different.

Amen.

I think that it reflects ignorance and a childish intellect to say that ALL Plato's Closet stores are "theives" just because you believe that one of them has done you wrong. Our family has a great experience with the Plato's Closet location in Oklahoma City. I've overheard people inside this location comment that they did not think that they got enough money for their clothes...but, when my kids have sold their things I have been impressed at what they received for "used clothes". When considering the overhead expense of running a business (I own a business) I am amazed at the fact that they can even exist while selling clothes so cheap. My hat is off to the people at Plato's Closet in Oklahoma City for providing an inexpensive alternative to mall stores.

I just thought that somebody should do something other than complain.

Plato's Closet extremely peeved with plato's closet

Plato's closet - www.platoscloset.com
2020 e. Old lincoln highway
Langhorne, pa 19047
[protected]

I dropped off 2 huge loads of clothing to the new langhorne, pa store 5 sept 2007 and was told i'd receive a call that night to come back in for my money and/or clothing they cannot sell. I never heard from them, so I called back 7 sept. I was told I was in the computer at that time, but they still needed to go through my clothing and I ought to hear back from them that night. I waited a week, never receiving any phone calls. I called back 16 sept. I was told i'm no longer in the computer, nor are my clothes in the back. They usually delete you out of the computer within a week and donate your clothing within 4 days.

I was pissed - could have taken the clothing to a real consignment place for some money, freecycled them, asked around if friends could have used any of it, or at least donated them for my own tax purposes. But now your crappy company gets my tax donation. How do I even know you didn't keep some of my clothing to sell?

I asked to speak to a manager. There was none available at that time, but one would call me that afternoon. Never received such a phone call.

17 september I added the langhorne store to the better business bureau's list. I also wrote a complaint letter to plato's closet and received an email in return from mary klapperich who told me they are individually owned and that my email would be forwarded onto the owner of the for an investigation. I also received an email from email user saying my email would be forwarded onto the field operations manager of the langhorne, pa store. These emails were received well over 2 weeks ago. Never heard back.

I also contacted the bucks co consumer protection agency about this. Rick from that office made a few phone calls. He phoned me back today to say he spoke both with the langhorne store and the corporate place. Both agree they are in the wrong and that my clothing is no longer in the store. They say they've also recently changed their policy because "things had been very hectic". However, plato's closet won't do a thing to better my situation. What surprises me is plato's closet won't even call or write to me to apologize, much less even offer me store credit.

The only thing I can do is post my story where ever and I also know anyone else who calls the consumer protection agency asking about plato's closet will be forewarned of my experience. Hopefully i'll help someone else before they waste time and money. Let it be known that I am posting my story on every website I can find. You ignored me and that's completely inappropriate. This is absolutely awful customer service!

The first time I went into the store I went to check out and pay for my items, the girl behind the register said, "Gee...it must be nice to shop in a store that's only supposed to be for teenagers." Strike one. The second time I went in, I brought a few things in a Hollister bag for a possible sale, I was advised that they weren't interested in any of my things. They bags and clothing I brought in were clean, trendy and definitely all name brand items. Strike two. The last time I went in there, I brought 3 bags, a large Victoria's Secret tote, a Forever 21 bag (with the tags still on it) and an Ed Hardy bag, all full of nice, name brand merchandise...we're talking about at least 2 pair of Rue 21 jeans, several pair of Hollister jeans, shirts from Aero, etc. They again, told me they weren't interested, but, hey! Thanks forbringing them in! I really didn't expect to get $100, but, I truly thoughttheywould purchase brand new sandalsin thebox with the tags...unbelieveable. Again. The teenage girls were incredibly rude. One ofmy teen daughters wants to go back for a pair of shoes she liked...not me. Platos has lost a customer. Never again. I would rather go to Nordstrom's and pay retail...at least they're nice to me there.

I usually don't do this but I had such a bad experience today with Plato's closet I must leave a review, if you drop off clothes be warned that they will "donate" if they decide they don't want the items. Dropped off 3 very large garbage bags on Saturday, was told 3 hours and if I wasn't back day of I only get store credit. I told them I would pick up Monday, no problem, arrived this morning to find out they had passed on all items and they donated everything over the weekend. Pretty shady operation! As a business owner, I know this is not proper operations.

Let me start by saying I've been working at platos for half of a year now, and I've been shopping there for years. The location I work at is in Schaumburg, IL.

Obviously I can't speak for other locations, but I know that it can be tough to make people offers on their clothing. Even if it still has the tags attached, it may be too sophisticated for the store. We're trained to be wary of styles--it might be really cute, but if it's too dressy, we aren't supposed to take it. This applies to the brand also. Brands like J Crew, Banana Republic, Express, etc. are a bit mote complicated to decide on, just because we have to keep in mind the audience we're catering to. Plato's Closet appeals to "teens and twenty-somethings", and we, as buyers, have to make sure that the style of each garment will sell well for us.

As for items being damaged, sometimes we do miss minor holes or signs of wear. While we do our best to thoroughly examine each and every item, we also have to make sure that we aren't taking too long. Some people bring in several large garbage bags at a time, all completely stuffed with clothing. If we were to check every single garment in depth for any sign of wear, no matter how minor, it would take us hours to get through a single person's things. We have to find a balance between spending enough time to find great pieces and spending more time than our customers should have to wait. Unfortunately, this does sometimes cause us to overlook some flaws in garments.

I personally feel that in a store like Plato's, customer service is of incredible importance. The clothing gets people to come into the store, but customer service gets people to come back to the store. I offer my most sincere apologies to everyone who has had a negative experience--I do feel, though, that Plato's Closet in its entirety is not to blame. Some stores with different owners might be really stuck up, or they might not care about their customers, but here at Schaumburg, we try to make every single customer feel welcome and comfortable. Our owner does secret shopper reviews and so far we've always gotten very high reviews from our customers.

Hopefully, visiting a different location will get you better results. Plato's Closet can get you great deals on clothing and make fair offers for your garments, and it's a shame that some locations have such awful service. I hope I helped!
